This week, the lads are locked in with poker player, marketeer and Party-Gammon, Kat Arnsby! After briefly discussing Kat's imminent departure from Kindred, the trio dig up a controversial story from the end of 2024, namely Bonomo getting threatened with WSOP Super Main Event disqualification for wearing a keffiyeh. Kat highlights the hypocrisy of the WSOP who days earlier had run a tournament for the widows and orphans of fallen IDF soldiers. Barny Boatman's heartfelt statement and generous auctioning of his first WSOP bracelet is also given some consideration. The conversation then turns to the Global Poker Awards with everyone weighing in on some of the most nominated people. The promise of a more full breakdown of each and every category is made for the next episode (which by the way will be from the Unibet Deepstack Open Barcelona). The discussion turns to the issue of poker-bots, specifically in-house poker bots as David plays a clip from the Sigma Panel at which both he and Kat spoke late last year. From that leaping off point, Dara weighs in with his strong take that liquidity bits of this nature would be terrible for the game. Kat defends her position that they can be a positive thing so long as sites are transparent. Nobody changes anyone else's mind but the debate is held in good spirits and certainly provides both perspectives of a complicated issue. Before closing the curtain on a lively episode, David plugs the upcoming Dublin Poker Festival, for which Unibet Poker is running qualifiers - €50 satellites into both the €570 European Deepstacks and the €350 ACOP.

This week (ok not really this week), we are locked in and sounding out Niall Farrell ahead of his much anticipated BBC documentary ‘The Four Rules Of The Poker Kings' directed by BAFTA-winning filmmaker Greg Clark! The film was pushed back from its original April release date, as was this episode, hence a few anachronistic references to the Irish Open! In what is nonetheless a belter of an episode, the lads preview the documentary with exclusive clips from Niall's poker adventures in 2021/2022. Before they all get to that though, there is some talk about the Irish Open Leaderboard (AKA the Firaldo Cup) which was coincidentally won by our host David Lappin and another Niall Farrell idea ~ a Hendon Mob flag inspired ‘Amazing Race'. It's hard to keep track of all the ways Lupe Soto has contributed to the poker industry. Not only did she found the Women in Poker Hall of Fame in 2008, she's been instrumental in launching the Ladies International Poker Series, Senior Poker Tour & Women's Poker Association to name a few. Soto's roots in poker run deep. She recalls how when she started playing at her local casino, 5 card stud was the only form of poker on offer. Throughout all the changes the industry has gone through, it's clear her passion for poker is just as strong today as when she first learned the game. Lupe shares how a complicated family life left her on her own at the age of 12. She recalls how life could've been very different for her, but her drive and the goodwill from others helped her overcome the adversities in her life and go on to achieve great things. Not one to mince words, Lappin is known for calling it as he sees it when it comes to his writing. However, as this podcast unfolds, we learn that he's far from motivated by clickbait titles or attention seeking behaviour. Interestingly, both Kara and David found poker through TV.
