The Evidence Based Pole Podcast
Exercise Science 101: How to get stronger for pole dance

The Evidence Based Pole Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 20, 2026 16:57

The episode explains how pole dancers can get stronger using progressive overload, defined as gradually increasing training stress so the body adapts during rest and the same demands become easier over time. It outlines adaptation timelines: neurological and cardiovascular changes can occur quickly (sometimes within a session for neuro drills), noticeable strength gains typically appear after about 3–6 weeks, connective tissue (tendons/ligaments) adapts around the 3-month mark, and bone density changes occur closer to 6 months. Rosy emphasizes easing back into training—especially after a break or postpartum—avoiding self-punishment, and prioritizing rest because adaptation happens during recovery. It describes ways to increase load for pole and bodyweight training: increase training frequency while keeping at least 1–2 rest days per week, increase repetitions, use time-based conditioning like a “pole treadmill” (repeated climbs/descents for time), increase resistance via weights/bands or by selecting harder bodyweight progressions, and use isometrics by holding longer or increasing tension. It notes that muscle damage is not necessarily required for positive adaptation and references Felipe Damas' work (primarily in hypertrophy research), while clarifying the focus is strength training rather than bodybuilding. The episode also explains that the body responds to chronic life stress similarly to training stress, which can hinder strength gains, and encourages stress reduction and enjoyable movement.Citations:SELYE H. In July 2010, twenty-nine-year-old Heather Leann Pope left her mother's home in Royse City, Texas, telling her she was going to visit a friend. She never returned. Days passed without a call or message, something that immediately alarmed her family, who knew Heather always checked in.Nearly two weeks later, while searching the Quinlan area of southern Hunt County, Heather's father and a family friend made a devastating discovery behind a convenience store off Cedar Hill Road near Lake Tawakoni. Heather's body had been left under a tarp beside a vacant house. The extreme summer heat had taken a toll, and investigators later confirmed she had been killed by blunt force trauma to the head.More than a decade later, Heather's murder remains unsolved. Her family continues to seek justice, contributing thousands of dollars of their own money to increase the Crime Stoppers reward to $10,000. Interview with Colin Smith, Director & CEO of TooGood GoldRecording date: 27th November 2025TooGood Gold Corporation is developing an early-stage, district-scale high-grade gold project in northern Newfoundland, positioning itself within one of Canada's most active exploration regions. The company acquired the property through a favorable earn-in agreement with Prospector Metals, which made the initial discovery before redirecting focus to its Yukon assets. Under CEO Colin Smith, a geologist with 20 years of experience including roles at SSR Mining and Discovery Group, TooGood has expanded the land package from 110 km² to over 164 km², systematically consolidating ground along regional structural trends. The flagship Quinlan discovery demonstrates exceptional potential, with Prospector's initial 2022 drilling intersecting visible gold in 15 of the first 19 holes. The standout intersection delivered 24 meters at approximately 4 g/t gold, with Smith characterizing these as "70 to 80 plus gram-meter holes in the first swing of the bat, which in my experience is pretty rare." The geological model features a felsic intrusive dyke within black shale that extends to surface, providing clear targeting parameters. Smith notes the system "lines up like poker straight like a book" in 3D modeling, though the team seeks structural complexities where the dyke might expand to "20, 30, 40 meters of thickness."TooGood completed a 33-hole, 2,000-meter drill program in summer 2025, with results pending for 19 holes. The company has also consolidated the Golden Nugget property, featuring an 8.5-kilometer coastal trend averaging over 1 g/t gold in rock samples that remains largely untested. With over $4 million in treasury and five additional drill-ready targets identified, TooGood maintains full funding for its 2026 exploration program. The project sits on the same structural corridor as Equinox Gold's producing Valentine Lake mine and near New Found Gold's Queensway deposit, providing validated geological analogues within a mining-friendly jurisdiction offering year-round access and established infrastructure.Sign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

Joe Quinlan, head of market strategy for Merrill Lynch and Bank of America Private Bank, says that the U.S. consumer higher-income households "are in great shape heading into 2026," and so long as the Boomers continue spending, the economy and stock market can roll along. Quinlan says that the economy can avoid a recession if the Federal Reserve can avoid policy mistakes, if the U.S. stays out of a difficult trade war and if the extraneous factors mostly stay at bay. Given what the market has weathered in 2025, Quinlan says there is reason to believe the rally can continue, even if results are muted a bit compared to the equity returns of the last three years. Chris Vermeulen, chief market strategist at The Technical Traders, says that investors should not be fighting current trends, but they should be getting cautious in a market where there's not a lot of upside left this year. He expects January to be a telling month for whether the rally can carry deep into 2026, and says that investors looking for bigger gains can still get in on the gold rally, which Vermeulen says still has 25 to 30 percent upside from current levels.   Sandra Block, contributing editor at Kiplinger talks about what she learned about dental care for retirees as she made her own transition toward retirement earlier this year, and the choices consumers face as they weigh Medicare options. And Mark Hamrick discusses a recent BankRate.com survey which found that about half of working American adults expect to be reliant on Social Security benefits to handle necessary expenses when they retire, but more than three-quarters of that working population worries that their promised benefits won't be paid when they reach retirement age.

Meredith Quinlan and Jess Baker are two of Australia's best ultramarathon runners with a string of victories and records to their name.In recent years, they have begun exploring what lies beyond organised races. In 2018, their love of travel and running took them to Iceland where they ran the length of Iceland - from the northern tip to the southern tip - and set a Fastest Known Time (FKT) in the process. The ‘Iceland Traverse' was a self-supported journey of around 580km which took them 7 days and 13 hours to complete. In this (laughter-filled) conversation, we discuss:- how they each discovered running,- whether there was any sense of rivalry between them,- why Meredith doesn't fear failure,- Jess' experience with the Imposter Complex and why she says it can be helpful at times,- where the idea to traverse Iceland came from,- how Iceland's rich history of strong women inspired them, and- the logistics involved in a self-supported crossing of Iceland, which included being powered by chocolate biscuits and slabs of chocolate for a 100km stretch and a 300km section where there were no resupply options.

This week on Wrestling Omakase we're still on the road, so it's another live-to-tape/running audio blog edition as we keep you up to date with all of the tournament action across two promotions! This time around we go in chronological order through both promotions, alternating between NJPW G1 Climax & STARDOM 5 Star GP shows. John is once again joined by their good friend Quinlan to break down the G1 shows and goes solo on the 5 Star shows, coming live from a hotel room in DC for a bunch of it. So you get some random thoughts about Otakon too mixed in, because why not? Also, John made a bunch of AEW fans mad again. Shocking news there. With guest appearances by multiple other people, an unruly hotel room air conditioner, and the sound of Nicole's controller, it's a hell of a show! Also one of these G1 shows really sucked and we had to bury it a lot, but hey, at least all the 5 Star stuff was good!Follow Wrestling Omakase on Twitter: @WrestleOmakaseFollow John on Bluesky: @justoneenbyAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

If you could live, but only without your heart's desire, would you still choose life?Asajj does in “Tales of the Underworld,” and the shroud of her love affair with Quinlan Vos from Dark Disciple (2015) hangs heavy over her tale. But it's also full of surprising tenderness, self-determination, and a willingness to start new. More than any of the Tales, Asajj's story feels like a fully realized work of art.We track Asajj's journey through the Star Wars timeline, compare her with her foils—Anakin and Ahsoka—and sing our praises of her decision to honor her lost love by dedicating herself to his work. (We may or may not have a shed a tear about Asajj's new family, too.)New to Growing Up Skywalker? Come join us for non-toxic Star Wars recaps from a veteran and a new fan. This week on Wrestling Omakase we continue our ongoing coverage of two major tournaments! John introduces the unusual format we'll be using for the next two weeks (it was the only way they could bring you these episodes due to some travel they'll be doing), as they start out going solo to talk about the first five days of the STARDOM 5 Star GP. They break down each and every tournament match so far, from the enormous 16-match opening day in Ota Ward right through the doubleheader in Utsunomiya. Hear all about some of the best matches of the tournament so far, including Saori Anou vs. Ami Sohrei in a match that showed off what could be the main event future of the promotion, Sareee getting absolutely nuclear heat all week long, AZM and Starlight Kid tearing the house down and a whole lot more! John's good friend Quinlan returns to the show to talk about the final 5 Star GP show of the week (the evening show from Utsunomiya) and gives a bit of a casual viewer perspective on it.Then John & Quinlan both break down Nights 7-11 of the G1 Climax in full, talking about some interesting topics: attendance finally showing signs of life during the last week, whether Konosuke Takeshita is perhaps having a bit of a weaker tournament than he did last year (by his lofty standards), and even put over some House of Torture matches for a change on this network. They also discuss some more great Taichi matches as he continues to be the absolute MVP of the tournament, and some more good performances from Tanahashi on his retirement show. A fun show as tournament season rolls on!Following Wrestling Omakase on Twitter: @wrestleomakaseFollow John on BlueSky: @justoneenbyAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

You're not alone—and you're not broken. In this video, we answer the most common questions I receive from clients and followers about panic and recovery. We explore how panic disorder differs from general anxiety, how avoidance behaviors unintentionally keep you stuck, and how to begin breaking the cycle with CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and science-backed strategies. You'll learn how to gently face panic with self-compassion, reframe common fears (like panic in public or while driving), and take your first small step toward healing. We also discuss the mindset shifts that truly change everything in recovery. Whether you've struggled for years or are just beginning your journey, this is for you. This one's for the builders. Brendan Quinlan started knocking doors nearly two decades ago, before iPads, before online training, before it was “cool.” He spent 13 years actively knocking, built his first team from the ground up in Florida, and got laughed out of every pest control office in Canada when he tried to bring D2D to his home country. Fast forward to today, and Brendan leads over 500 reps, operates in multiple Canadian cities, and just launched a new international team in Melbourne, Australia. His company now owns both the marketing and fulfillment side, making them the largest residential pest control provider in Canada, all launched in just a few short years. Oh, and now they're training reps to knock year-round by flipping seasons between hemispheres.

Forrest is joined by therapist Kimberley Quinlan to explore one of the most misunderstood anxiety disorders: obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Drawing from her clinical and personal experience, Kimberley breaks down what OCD is, how it differs from general anxiety, and the ways it's often mischaracterized. They discuss the core features of obsessions and compulsions, and how these can manifest across a wide range of themes, including harm, contamination, morality, and relationships. Kimberley explains how Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) works, what makes an exposure “good,” and how to build tolerance for distress rather than trying to eliminate it. They also touch on self-compassion, the role of medication, and the stigmas that can keep people from getting help.
