Poker Players Who've Murdered Their Parents + Jeff Madsen's 40th Birthday

PokerNews Podcast

In the 893rd episode of the PokerNews Podcast, Chad Holloway, Mike Holtz, and Kyna England celebrate Jeff Madsen's 40th birthday before talking about two poker players who murdered their parents. Recently in Texas, Benjamin Frakes, 39, was taken into custody at Doghouse Poker Club in Cypress, a town 25 miles northwest of Downtown Houston. He was charged with capital murder for allegedly shooting his parents. The tragic situation was reminiscent of poker player Ernie Scherer, who was convicted in 2011 of killing his parents in an elaborate plot to collect an inheritance. It's a true crime story that's been featured on 48 Hours but often overlooked by the poker world, that is, until the crew takes a look back in history and shares details of the horrific crime. Chad then offers a behind-the-scenes look at Daniel Negreanu's 25K Fantasy Draft, including an interview with the man himself, before recapping recent tournament winners from the Triton Montenegro, including Jesse Lonis, Jason Koon, and Aleksa Pavicevic. Other stories covered include the return of the PokerStars Big Game and a preview of the Bar Poker Open coming to the Golden Nugget Las Vegas from June 8-13. For the second week in a row, another milestone has been achieved.... It's now been a year since rebranding and continuing on as Falconry Chronicles! It's been a challenge, but I'm happy that so many people have continued on the journey with me! Your support continues to mean the world, and I don't take it for granted! That being said, we're down to the last couple of episodes that were recorded in Wyoming early last year, and this episode features another good friend, Kyna Sturges. Having gotten to know Kyna and Vahe over the last few years, it's always great to pay them a visit when I'm in Wyoming, and I'm glad I got the chance to discuss things with Kyna in regards to her unique introduction into falconry. She gives insight into what it has been like being relatively new in the sport, while simultaneously being immersed into aspects of hawking and propagation that many falconers don't get to experience in their lives. Thanks again for a memorable year, and enjoy!  Sign up to support and/or receive extra content at buymeacoffee.com/falconrychroniclesSpecial thanks to the organizations and businesses who've kindly helped support the podcast! The Archives of Falconryhttp://www.falconry.orgMarshall Radio Telemetryhttp://www.marshallradio.comMasters of the Skieshttp://www.mastersoftheskies.orgBaba Yaga Craftshttp://www.instagram.com/babayagagoshawkNorth Mountain Goshawkshttp://www.northmountaingoshawks.comNew Mexico Falconers AssociationArizona Falconers Assocationhttp://www.arizonafalconers.comTexas Hawking Associationhttp://www.texashawking.orgNorth American Falconers Associationhttp://www.n-a-f-a.comFalconry Fundhttp://www.falconryfund.orgPursuit Falconry and Conservation Magazinehttp://pursuitfalconry.co.ukThe Specialist Falconhttp://www.thespecialistfalcon.comCape Falconry Clubhttp://www.capefalconry.co.zaEast Coast Falconshttp://www.eastcoastfalcons.comBlackhawk Falconry Dachshundshttps://www.facebook.com/blackhawkdachshunds

In the 876th episode of the PokerNews Podcast, which is sponsored by Global Poker, Chad Holloway is back at Level 9 Studio in Las Vegas alongside regular co-host Mike Holtz. However, Kyna England is up in Reno for the RunGood Poker Series, so her Team Hotdog compatriot Lindsey Kludt fills in. The triumvirate discusses football/soccer superstar Neymar making headlines for playing online poker during a child's birthday party, for which he received a good amount of criticism. But was it warranted? Chad then pays homage to Poker Hall of Famer Crandell Addington, who recently passed away. The Texan was there for the very first World Series of Poker (WSOP), and in this episode you'll get to hear the seven-time Main Event final tablist talk about the old days via an interview he did with PokerNews back in 2020. Finally, you'll learn about the brand new emoji options in the PokerNews live reporting updates and a new documentary featuring Lukas "Robin Poker" Robinson from the WPT Voyage. In the 824th episode of the PokerNews Podcast, which is sponsored by PokerStars, Chad Holloway, Mike Holtz & Kyna England come to you from Level 9 Studios in Las Vegas to discuss the latest poker news, stories, and gossip.  That includes diving into old-school legends Mike Matusow and Phil Laak being back in the poker spotlight, the former having crushed on Hustler Casino Live (HCL) -- including being a part of a big set-over-set hand -- and the latter returning to High Stakes Poker. That opened up a discussion on the Poker Hall of Fame, and whether or not either of those players deserve to be in.  From there, the crew discusses chopping in poker, which was spurred by poker pro Nick Pupillo negotiating a kind chop in the WPT Rolling Thunder Mystery Bounty Event. Hear their thoughts on chopping in general, as well as some fun chop stories. Kyna then gives props to her Game of Gold costar Olga Iermolcheva, who was recently featured on a magazine cover, explains the meaning behind her Team Hotdog hoodie, and reveals she'll be attending the upcoming RGPS Reno. Finally, the crew wraps things up by looking ahead to the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) by sharing what events they're most excited about. In the 822nd episode of the PokerNews Podcast, Chad Holloway, Mike Holtz & Kyna England come to you from Level 9 Studios in Las Vegas to discuss the latest poker news, stories, and gossip.  That includes Nik Airball's 20-minute tank in a big hand on The Lodge Poker Live Stream, which prompted Doug Polk to take action. That led into a discussion on pet peeves at the table, and in Mike's case, the pet part is quite literal. The crew also plays the first edition of PokerNews Plinko, discusses Chad's poker thrift store "Tweet of the Week," and talks about the current state of poker given Bitcoin is at an all-time high. From there, they dive into the wild journey of poker vlogger Corey Eyring, who is risking his entire net worth in an attempt to win $500,000 by the end of the year. Whatever amount he ends up with, the plan is to place it all on a single roulette bet of either red or black. Chad chatted with Eyring about his crazy quest and highlights various clips throughout the episode. Finally, the crew once again touches on Kevin Martin's 24/7 stream while attempting to win $5,000 playing online, which came to an unceremonius end. In the 821st episode of the PokerNews Podcast, Chad Holloway, Mike Holtz & Kyna England come to you from Level 9 Studios in Las Vegas to discuss the latest poker news, stories, and gossip. That includes the recent drama surrounding Tom "durrrr" Dwan, who recently talked to PokerNews in a 45-minute in-depth conversation about debt allegations recently leveled against him by Peter Jetten and Haralabos Voulgaris.  Suffice it to say Dwan didn't give very clear answers. Some say he spouted a word salad to most of the questions, and our crew took a look at some clips and offered their thoughts. We also asked Dwan point blank if he's ever been kidnapped by the Triads, an urban legend of sorts in the poker world. Mike and Kyna then talked about their respective tournament successes since the last show, which led to a larger talk about women in poker and how the industry sometimes struggles to market to such a large segment of the population. From there, it was on to a discussion about the recent uptick of poker-related names venturing into the reality TV space including Boston Rob Mariano, Brantzen Poker, and Athena Jett. Finally, the crew touched on Kevin Martin's 24/7 stream while attempting to win $5,000 playing online and close it out by offering their thoughts on the often-critical Allen Kessler.  Did you know the PokerNews Podcast is no longer just audio?
