Stablecoin-aanbieder Tether bezit zo’n 140 ton goud en blijft de komende tijd bezig met de aankoop van het edelmetaal. Dat schrijft Bloomberg. De voorraad heeft een waarde van zo’n twintig miljard euro en maakt van Tether een van de grootste particuliere bezitters van goud ter wereld. Het bedrijf is nog lang niet klaar met het inslaan, zo liet ceo Paolo Ardoino aan Bloomberg weten. Het bedrijf is volgens hem bijna 'one of the biggest (...) gold central banks in the world.' Tether gebruikt goud als onderpand voor de dollarstablecoin, maar ook ook voor een speciale goud-stablecoin, de XAUt-munt. Naast de welbekende dollarmunt USDT is het bedrijf vorige week begonnen met de uitgifte van USA₮, deze munt is speciaal bedoeld voor de Amerikaanse markt, waar de USDT niet voldeed aan de eisen van de toezichthouder. Het bedrijf wil een grotere rol gaan spelen in de Amerikaanse financiële wereld. Tim Stolte, portfolio manager van Amdax, analyseert deze week de prijs van de Bitcoin. Afgelopen week maakte de koers een flinke daling door. Analisten wezen naar Trumps nominatie van Kevin Warsh als voorzitter van de Fed. Stolte wijst er echter op dat deze nominatie niet uit de lucht kwam vallen en het dus niet zo kan zijn dat beleggers verrast zijn door Trumps zet. Volgens Tim is de koersval het gevolg van liquidaties die ten gevolge van de kelderende goud en zilverkoersen zijn uitgevoerd door grote partijen. Deze hadden volgens hem snel behoefte aan cash en gebruiken daarvoor hun Bitcoin. Of de bodem is bereikt, is lastig te zeggen, volgens Stolte is 75.000 dollar een belangrijk prijsniveau om in de gaten te houden, in 2021 en 2025 speelde deze prijs een belangrijke rol. Al verwacht hij niet dat de prijs lager uit gaat komen. De Amerikaanse beurswaakhond SEC heeft duidelijkheid gegeven over hoe bestaande effectenwetten van toepassing zijn op tokenized assets. Dat staat in een gepubliceerd statement. Aandelen en obligaties die op de blockchain beschikbaar zijn als tokenized asset vallen gewoon onder de bestaande regels voor aandelen, het feit dat ze beschikbaar zijn op de blockchain verandert daar vooralsnog niks aan.
