Support our Patreon: www.patreon.com/thepinksmoke Who better to spend the holidays with than rebellious hair hopper Dawn Davenport, who goes from pinning her screaming mother under a Christmas tree for failing to provide the desired gift of Cha Cha heels to becoming the brightest star to light up the electric chair. Kate Wilkiinson returns to talk about the *most* John Waters movie ever made, his 1974 cult classic that puts his favorite obsessions of crime, fame and grotesque glamour center stage. Is there anything more lovable than a hideous Baltimore accent? Can anyone deny the sex appeal of Edith Massey sewn into a tight leather S & M outfit? And is there something about all this that's weirdly wholesome? 1974 was a landmark year for film, a convergence of exciting international cinema and the original voices of New Hollywood that still resonates 50 years later. In our new series we invite a different guest for each episode to choose a 1974 movie to talk about, ranging from giant blockbusters to minor cult curios and everything else in between. "Without all of you, my career could never have gotten this far. Ha ha ha ha ha! It was you that I burn for, and it is you that I will die for. Please remember, I love every fucking one of you!" After PINK FLAMINGOS' runaway success on the Midnight Movie circuit, it was time for John Waters to create his follow-up. He reconvened with his regular crew of Dreamlanders and created FEMALE TROUBLE, a trash epic that portrays the life and times of Dawn Davenport (played by Divine in a quintessential performance), tracking her progression from teenage brat to juvenile delinquency and, ultimately, mass murder. In this episode, we tell the full story of how FEMALE TROUBLE came to be, from its inception, all the way through its tumultuous filming, release, and all of the controversy that came along with it. Theme Song: "There's Still a Little Bit of Time, If We Hurry and I Mean Hurry" by Slasher Film Festival Strategy. There must be two Dawn Davenport's because she seems to be everywhere, especially college footballseason. Her broadcasting journey led her to Nashville's News-2, and she parlayed that into a sports talkradio career while also balancing college football sideline duties that takes her all across the country.Dawn talks about her challenges and successes as a woman in a male dominated profession with candorand humor. AMONG THE TOPICS: RUN DAWN RUN! (ALTHOUGH SHE NEVER TRAINED), THE TIME HERBOSS SAID NO AND SHE DID IT ANYWAY, GIVING HER OPINION WHILE EARNING A PAYCHECK, HER “AHA” ESPN MOMENT AND EARNING THE NICKNAME “ANGRY CHIHUAHUA.”
