You can text us here!At what point do you begin to question someone's authority? You would be amazed how easily some people are controlled to an unbelievable level, following instructions to do things that go against all reason. In the 90's, a hoax caller was making managers of fast food restaurants and grocery stores, do unspeakable things to employees and customers, by posing as a police officer, and issuing orders over the phone. An incredible story. But it happened.Support the showwww.strangestuffpodcast.comwww.patreon/strangestuffpodcast#strangestuffpodcast - InstagramStrange Stuff Podcast - YouTubeWe source our material from various web resources, and claim no credit for any original research, as we are too damn lazy/busy to actually carry it out. This week, Paul Palango gives an update and preview of his upcoming book, and the guys discuss how podcasts are emerging as a trusted news source. In stories, Paul and Adam Rodgers discuss the London World Junior hockey trial, which is not going well for the prosecution. This week, the first defendant to testify, Carter Hart, explained his perspective. The judge also heard from the initial police investigator, who had decided against laying charges. A key text message exchange was excluded from evidence, against the prosecutions wishes. Also, the guys review the New Brunswick case where the defense is looking for more information on a confidential source being handled by an officer who is himself accused of stealing drugs from the RCMP exhibit locker. In Nova Scotia, the Court of Appeal overturned a decision to exclude evidence after an improper strip search of the accused. Dante Cromwell had pointed a handgun at another motorist in a road rage incident, and was later found to be in possession of 25g of cocaine after a strip search by Halifax police. Finally, the guys discuss the land acknowledgement from King Charles, and Paul reminisces about covering a royal visit in his early days as a reporter.

Yes, we already did Striking Distance, the most Pittsburgh movie of all time, but this is right up there. Legend of the Lone Ranger is a pop culture property that probably shouldn't have been a blockbuster, but if itw as going to be, going after the actor best known for playing the role legally was a bad way to get audiences excited about his replacement. What's a sleepwalker? How about shapeshifting energy vampires that survive off the energy of virgins, who can cast illusions, move things with their minds and transform into werecats? Oh yeah and their biggest weakness is cats, who can see them and kill them with their claws. And before we forget, the only way the males can feed their female mothers is by having sex with them. Legend has it that David Cronenberg for the idea for the torture TV channel that lends its name to his opus Videodrome from this Joe D'Amato film, which is also known as Trap Them and Kill Them. Think of this — a film that upset Cronenberg for its mash-up of snuff, cannibalism and sex. Take it from me. This one totally lives up to its promise. Or lives down. If you haven't picked it up from the movies I talk about on this site, I'm a big fan of Severin Films. I was so excited for this opportunity to speak with David Gregory, who is the man behind the label. In this interview, you'll learn about their new Russ Meyer releases, what it took to make that happen and how movies are selected for Severin, as well as an exploration of the films of Bruno Mattei and Joe D'Amato, the video nasties era from a true expert and even a possible sneak preview of a few upcoming releases. Thanks to Danielle Garnier, Michael Krause and David Gregory for making this interview happen. You can buy all of Severin's movies on their website, including the new Russ Meyer releases, Vixen, Supervixens and Beneath the Valley of the Ultravixens. There's constantly something new and wonderful from this company and I'm so honored that I had some time to speak with Mr. Gregory. Important links: Theme song: Strip Search by Neal Gardner. The strip search phone call scam was a series of incidents, mainly in small US towns, that lasted for 10 years, beginning in 1994. An unknown male caller would phone a restaurant, claiming to be a police officer would convince managers to conduct strip searches of employees, and to perform other bizarre and humiliating acts on behalf of "the police". More than 70 such phone calls were reported in 30 US states before finally coming to an end in 2004 with an arrest.SOURCESLouise Ogborn v. A series of disturbing & frightening phone calls targeted dozens of businesses and people over an extended period of time. These calls were placed all over the country, and the person on the other end posed as a law enforcement official. What this caller instructed people to do to others was not only wrong and humiliating, it was, in many instances, criminal on the part of both the caller and the person who answered the phone. Join Mike and Morf as they discuss the person known as The Strip Search Caller. He often targeted fast-food restaurants and told managers that one of their employees, and sometimes even customers, had stolen. The caller then convinced the managers to strip search the so-called thief and many other degrading acts. The police narrowed in on a prime suspect, but could they put together enough evidence to convince a jury of his guilt?
