The LSU Tigers host the Arkansas Razorbacks Saturday for a night game in Tiger Stadium. LSU is coming off of a massive 41-14 win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs while the Hogs suffered a heartbreaking loss against BYU at home. Each team is coming into this matchup with something to prove – Arkansas wants to get back on track and LSU continues it's quest for a second trip to Atlanta for the SEC Championship in as many years. But how can Brian Kelly's squad secure a victory? The Arkansas Razorbacks have quarterback KJ Jefferson on his side who is a proven commodity in the SEC and has only gotten better throughout his five years at Arkansas. He's a strong runner with a big arm and is at his best rolling out of the pocket. But what will KJ and the rest of the Razorbacks offense look like if running back Rocket Sanders is not available? He suffered a knee injury the first game of the season against Western Carolina and has not been healthy enough to play since the season opener. With no definitive ruling on his status for the LSU game, will the Tigers defense be prepared to take on Arkansas with or without him? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! The LSU Tigers host the Arkansas Razorbacks in their first home conference game after blowing out Mississippi State on the road 41-14 last week. How can LSU continue the momentum in conference play, extend the win streak, and keep their hopes of a trip to Atlanta for the SEC Championship alive? Locked On Razorbacks host John Nabers joins Caroline Fenton of Locked On LSU to break down the latest injury news with the Razorbacks, their strengths defensively, and their weaknesses on the offensive line. Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson is the most veteran QB in the SEC but his mobility and big arm weren't enough to overcome bad offensive line and special teams play last week against BYU as they fell 38-31 to the Cougars. With poor protection offensively, is this a day for Harold Perkins, Maason Smith, and the rest of the Tigers defensive line to continue their feast after last weekend? Plus, the history of the LSU and Arkansas rivalry is rich and competitive. In fact, the last three matchups between the Razorbacks and Tigers have come down to a field goal in each of those three games. Why will this matchup for the Tigers be different, especially considering this game is at home and it is played nearly two months earlier than in recent history? Overall, the Tigers proved last week that they are the better football team in this matchup. While both quarterbacks are talented and have a lot of quality experience at the college level, LSU has better playmakers and should be able to handle the Hogs to set themselves up to be 2-0 in the SEC going into next weeks matchup against Ole Miss. The LSU Tigers dropped their first game of the season against the Florida State Seminoles. It was a loss that will be a bitter taste in the mouths of the Tiger faithful for weeks, months, and even years to come. But it was a hurt that may have eased slightly following the Alabama Crimson Tide's loss to the Texas Longhorns and the Texas A&M Aggies loss to the Miami Hurricanes. Now, the SEC West is wide open and each team in the division has proven to be beatable. So how do the LSU Tigers take advantage of an SEC West with no clear front runner? It all starts with the Mississippi State Bulldogs this weekend. LSU opens conference play in Starkville this weekend and while the offense was firing and the defense found it's footing in the second half against Grambling this past weekend, they will be tested against a more quality opponent in a must-win game in order to keep SEC Championship hopes alive. On this episode of Locked On Aggies, host Andrew Stefaniak talks about why he thinks the Texas A&M Aggies will take down the Miami Hurricanes. Stefaniak believes a mix of Bobby Petrino's offense not showing his hand, the defense shutting down the run game, and getting pressure on Tyler Van Dyke will lead to a Texas A&M victory. Lastly, Stefaniak talked about why this game will be pivotal for Texas A&M's chances of making a push to the SEC Championship. If the Aggies want to keep beating Miami on the recruiting trail, they need to beat them on the field. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! The Texas A&M Aggies have underachieved as a football program over the last couple of seasons relative to lofty goals and expectations. Jimbo Fisher's squad is loaded with talent and experience heading into the 2023 season. There are reasons to believe that the Aggies take a huge leap forward this season. Connor Weigman at QB and a very underrated wide receiver and tight end corps under the tutelage and offensive mind of new Offensive Coordinator Bobby Petrino are all big reasons. Also, the defense returns a lot of talent in the front seven and will now be in year two of Defensive Coordinator, and now linebacker coach, DJ Durkin's scheme. Five credentialed media members think Vanderbilt will win the SEC Championship. Now that's a hot take. We can't match that boldness – or, is lunacy a better word? – but we do have a few against-the-grain SEC football predictions. Call them lukewarm preseason takes. On today's episode, hosts Blake Toppmeyer and John Adams offer their predictions that swim upstream against the votes cast at last week's SEC Media Days. From the last-place debate in the SEC West to the SEC East's sleeper team to a quarterback being overlooked, we've got thoughts that don't subscribe to group-think. Later in the episode, an unpacking of Nick Saban's unusual philosophy on expectations creating disappointment, and Lane Kiffin swaps Portal King for Irony King. On this episode of Locked On Aggies, host Andrew Stefaniak made the case for how the Aggies can win the SEC West. He feels like a down Alabama team at home could lead to a win. The Aggies have a good enough roster to make a run at the SEC Championship. Next, Stefaniak talked about who he voted for on his SEC Media Days poll. There were a few Aggie players on the list, and he had the Aggies finishing near the top of the SEC West. Lastly, Stefaniak talked about who could be the MVP of this Texas A&M football team. He feels like it could be a handful of names on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! LSU Tigers head football coach Brian Kelly sat down with Blake Toppmeyer of USA Today to discuss the state of the LSU football program, what they have accomplished under just one year of Brian Kelly and what the plans are moving forward, both long term and short term. Kelly's first year went as good as any Tiger fan would hope: a win against SEC West foe Alabama, a trip to Atlanta to compete in the SEC Championship game, and a ten win season to top it all off. While year one has been considered a success, the expectations only skyrocket from there. One year ago we were asking ourselves if Brian Kelly would be a good fit at LSU; now, we're asking ourselves when Brian Kelly will bring a national championship to LSU. Can LSU win a national title this year? Sure, why not? The Tigers return quarterback Jayden Daniels in addition to their leading receiver in Nabers and four of their leading rushers. Offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock and defensive coordinator Matt House also return for year two under Brian Kelly. LSU has some difficult tests on their schedule, like kicking off the season against Florida State and then on the road in Tuscaloosa with a showdown against Nick Saban and company, but overall the Tigers have a fairly favorable schedule all things considered. But what does Brian Kelly think? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! FanDuel Make Every Moment More. On this episode of Locked On Aggies, host Andrew Stefaniak breaks down Athlon Sport's depth chart for the Aggies and who he thinks will start on both sides of the ball. Stefaniak agreed with most of the depth chart but had a few differing opinions with positions like linebacker and tight end. He agreed with most of the positions on defense and offense besides these two. Stefaniak commented about how there is a ton of talent on this 2023 Texas A&M roster. Lastly, Stefaniak talked about a few future lines that FanDuel has put out, including the Aggies chances to win the SEC West, SEC Championship, and the National Championship, along with Conner Weigman's chances to win the Heisman Trophy. But his impact on the Razorback program—and its student-athletes—goes beyond the numbers. It's about the relationships he's built, how he's treated others, and how he's represented the University of Arkansas. As an incredible career ends, Lance Harter's name now adorns the track at the Randal Tyson Track Center, ensuring that his legacy will live on at Arkansas for years to come. It is done. The SEC approves sticking with an 8-game football schedule in 2024, pushing back the plan to go to 9-games. I'll tell you why I'm not really the biggest fan of this. The reason we got here: wanting more money in the tv contract, and some teams scared to go to nine. And RIP to the SEC East and the SEC West. SEC divisions are going away in 2024, the conference will send the two teams with the best conference records to Atlanta for the SEC Championship game. We'll also address some of the criticism the SEC is taking for the decision from the likes of Pat Forde. And we'll explain why the SEC schedule is still STRONG in 2024 because of some of the MONSTER non-conference games scheduled. And the SEC introduces new penalties for teams who storm the field - spoiler alert, I still don't think it's going to deter teams from doing it! LSU Football exceeded expectations in Brian Kelly's first season by winning nine regular season games, taking down rivals Alabama Crimson Tide, and winning the SEC West for a chance to compete in the SEC Championship. But that was last season, and now it is up to Kelly and the entire LSU Tigers team to not just live up to, but exceed the standard they set for themselves in the 2022 season. ESPN released its post-spring top 25 college football power rankings. The rankings are fairly kind to LSU, however their praise for the program is met with just as much skepticism. They beat Alabama, but what happened in the final regular season game against Texas A&M? Jayden Daniels and Harold Perkins should take a step forward in their second year in Baton Rouge, but will Brian Kelly be faced with growing pains? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels decided to exercise his fifth year and come back to LSU for a second year after spending the first three years of his career at Arizona State. After a hot-and-cold beginning of the 2022 season, Daniels helped lead LSU to victories over Ole Miss, Alabama, and Arkansas to secure the SEC West and compete for an SEC Championship in both his and head coach Brian Kelly's first season with the purple and gold. Coming in to year two, he is more confident, he is stronger, and he knows the expectations for a starting quarter back at LSU. So can he achieve his goal of becoming the best quarterback in the country? There could be one big thing in his way: lack of depth. Head coach Brian Kelly spoke with the media and outlined the high expectations he has for the team as a whole and for each individual player. But one weakness that he sees of the team is the lack of depth. LSU football has faced several injuries throughout spring practice: veteran safety Major Burns will miss the rest of spring practice, Maason Smith is returning from an ACL tear, safety Greg Brooks has struggled with an ankle injury for the last few weeks, and that doesn't even scrape the surface of Tigers dealing with bumps and bruises throughout the offseason. If LSU is faced with a similar injury bug throughout the season, do they have enough quality players to compete in the SEC, the most difficult conference in college football?
