Indian prime minister doubles down on Hinduism India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi is moving more nationalist and more committed to a Hindu state. That will mean more persecution for Christians and those of other minority religions. His enthusiastic support for the false god “Lord Ram” and a new Hindu temple in northern India's Ayodhya is an attempt to create what Modi has called “The New India.” Hindus for Human Rights is protesting, calling this an attempt to “weaponize Hinduism in the name of the BJP's repressive nationalist ideology, ahead of national elections in May.” Brazil floods kill 32 Torrential rains in Brazil led to severe flooding last week, resulting in the deaths of at least 32 persons and the displacement of 5,000 others, according to The Brazilian Report. Brazil critical of Israel Also, in relation to the Israeli-Hamas War, Brazil has joined South Africa and other Arab nations to bring charges of genocide against Israel in the International Court of Justice for Israel's defending itself after being attacked by the Muslim terrorist group on October 7th. The United States, Canada, and Germany have criticized the motion. Ron DeSantis withdraws from presidential race Ahead of today's first-in-the nation primary in New Hampshire, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has pulled out of the presidential race, and he's putting his support behind former president Donald Trump. Listen. DeSANTIS: “I can't ask our supporters to volunteer their time and donate their resources if we don't have a clear path to victory. Accordingly, I am today suspending my campaign. “It's clear to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another chance. They watch his presidency gets stymied by relentless resistance, and they see Democrats using lawfair to this day to attack him. While I've had disagreements with Donald Trump, such as on the coronavirus pandemic and his elevation of Anthony Fauci, Trump is superior to the current incumbent, Joe Biden. “He has my endorsement because we can't go back to the old Republican Guard of yesteryear.” Trump leads Haley, 50-39%, in New Hampshire A CNN poll finds that Trump's lead over second place Republican candidate Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina Governor, is now 50-39% in the New Hampshire primary today, where Haley has her best shot. Real estate market hitting recession The real estate market has hit recession levels. Existing-home sales waned by 1 % in December to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 3.78 million, reports the National Association of Realtors. That's the lowest level since the 2010 recession. Court: 18 to 20-year-olds can carry guns The U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld the rights of 18 to 20-year-olds to carry arms. The court ruled that a Pennsylvania law, which prohibits the right of these young adults from carrying firearms in public during a state of emergency, was unconstitutional. U.S. Circuit Judge Kent Jordan wrote, “It is undisputed that 18 to 20-year-olds are among ‘the people' for other constitutional rights such as the right to vote, freedom of speech, peaceable assembly, government petitions, and the right against unreasonable government searches and seizures.” March for Life in D.C. and across America Pro-lifers held their March for Life events around the country over the weekend, connected to the January 22, 1973 date of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision which effectively legalized abortion. As The Worldview reported yesterday, thousands braved snowy weather in Washington DC, to march and attend a rally with speakers including NFL player Benjamin Watson and House Speaker Mike Johnson – both of whom we quoted. Other speakers included Republican Congressman Chris Smith of New Jersey, Focus on the Family President Jim Daly, and Pastor Greg Laurie of Harvest Christian Fellowship. Abortion rate up despite overturn of Roe Despite the reversal of Roe v. Wade on June 24, 2022, the number of abortions appears to still be on the increase in America. The Guttmacher Institute reports that in the first 10 months of 2023 there were an estimated 878,000 abortions in the formal US health care system. That's a rate 12% higher than 2020's numbers. And that doesn't include the number of abortions produced by the Day After Pill, the IUD, and the unrecorded Abortion Kill Pill by Mail program. Hear the Word of the Lord, for America, from Isaiah 1:15-17. God said, “When you spread out your hands, I will hide My eyes from you; Even though you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood. Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil, Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow.” Wrestler Hulk Hogan rescues teen after witnessing car accident And finally, famed wrestler Hulk Hogan has recently been in the headlines for getting baptized and speaking about his newfound Christian faith, reports FaithWire.com. But the former World Wrestling Entertainment star is now making headlines for “playing real-life superheroes” alongside one of his friends. A week ago Sunday night, Hogan was in Tampa, Florida when he witnessed a horrific crash and jumped into action. The accident reportedly involved a 17-year-old girl, whom Hogan rescued. After news of the incident broke, the wrestling icon's wife, Sky Daily Hogan, shared details of the event on her Facebook page. She said, “Last night, after we left dinner in Tampa, we saw a car flip in front of us! I truly admire my husband, @hulkhogan, and our good buddy, @jakerask, for springing into action, puncturing the girl's airbag, and getting her quickly out of the car.” According to Hogan, the victim was “unscathed,” though rattled. In the end, she called the entire ordeal “an absolute miracle.” The wrestler also confirmed the story on his Twitter feed, explaining how he was able to pop the airbag without a knife. He wrote, “The crazy part about the teenager that flipped her car was that, without a knife to puncture the airbags to get her out, an Indian Rocks Christian ballpoint pen came in really handy. Thank you, God, all is well.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Tuesday, January 23rd in the year of our Lord 2024. It's Monday, January 22nd, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Muslims in Sudan, Africa set fire to church On Friday, January 12th, Muslim extremists from the Rapid Support Forces, a paramilitary group formerly operated by the Government of Sudan, set a church building on fire in Wad Medani, Sudan, reports Morning Star News. The blaze destroyed Bibles, hymnbooks, important documents and chairs in the building. A pastor said Christians in Sudan fear they are being increasingly targeted. The Rapid Support Forces has killed civilians, raped women and girls, and looted homes and shops since taking control of the state in December. In Matthew 10:22-23, Jesus said, “You will be hated by everyone because of Me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another.” In the Open Doors' 2024 World Watch List of the countries where it is most difficult to be a Christian, Sudan now ranks #8, up from #10 the previous year. Trump: Nikki Haley “has no chance” Appearing on Sean Hannity's Fox News talk show, former president Donald Trump said that Nikki Haley doesn't have a chance of winning the New Hampshire primary tomorrow. TRUMP: “She's not going to make it. She has no chance. She's got no way. MAGA – [Make America Great Again] -- is not going to be with her.” Hannity discussed why he thought the New Hampshire GOP primary was unfair. HANNITY: “I don't like their primary system for one reason. They have what's called an open primary. Already we know that nearly 4,000 Democratic voters have switched affiliation to Republican or undeclared, meaning independent, ahead of the primary, according to the Secretary of State's office. “Even [Republican] Governor [Chris] Sununu, not a friend of yours, told our own Neil Cavuto, that it's troubling that many of these people that will switch as Democrats and vote in the Republican primary, that, when push comes to shove, that they would choose Biden in the end over any Republican.” TRUMP: “So Democrats are allowed to vote. They're gonna vote for her because they don't want to run against me. They want to run against her. … We are leading Biden in every poll. Michigan just came out -- we're leading by 11. Georgia just came out -- we're leading by 13 points. We're leading everywhere now.” Nikki Haley: Trump lost the House, the Senate, & White House On January 18th, Nikki Haley spoke with reporters in New Hampshire about targeting Trump, reports RealClearPolitics.com. HALEY: “We were focused on DeSantis in Iowa. We're no longer focused on him. It's Trump in New Hampshire and Trump in South Carolina. “Trump says things. Americans aren't stupid to just believe what he says. The reality is, who lost the House for us? Who lost the Senate? Who lost the White House? Donald Trump, Donald Trump, Donald Trump. Nikki Haley will win every single one of those back for us. I've proven that. So. he can say whatever he wants.” Tens of thousands participate in annual March for Life Tens of thousands of pro-lifers braved the snow and the frigid cold on Friday, January 19th to participate in the nation's capital for the 51st annual March for Life, reports LifeSiteNews.com. Check out a link to a time-lapse video which shows the impressive size of the turnout at www.TheWorldview.com. Pro-lifers from across America gathered at the National Mall and marched a 2-mile route to a concluding spot between the U.S. Capitol and U.S. Supreme Court, celebrating the 2022 overturn of Roe v. Wade and building on that victory by urging Congress to take further action. Former NFL player Benjamin Watson explained that even though Roe v. Wade was overturned, there is a lot of pro-life work yet to be done. WATSON: “I've been calling the period of time we're in right now, the New Fight for Life. “Roe is done, but we still live in a culture that knows not how to care for life. Roe is done, but the factors that drive women to seek abortions are ever apparent and ever increasing. Roe is done, but abortion is still legal and thriving in too much of America. Roe is done, but, even so, in the cold and the snow, you have continued to travel from around the nation to this place to recognize that the Fight for Life is not over. “God's Word challenges us in the book of Micah ‘to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly before our God.' I believe that this is the essence of what it means to be with every woman and for every child.” Jeanne Mancini, the President of March for Life, explained what a woman facing a crisis pregnancy really needs. MANCINI: “Studies have shown that 60% of women who choose abortion would have chosen life if they felt that they had more support. And not only that, but one in four women who choose abortion are coerced to have that abortion. “What does a woman most need when she is facing an unexpected pregnancy? She doesn't need fear mongering. She doesn't need shame. What she needs to hear is ‘You've got this' and ‘I will help you.'” And House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana shared a personal story. JOHNSON: “I am, myself, a product of an unplanned pregnancy. In January of 1972, exactly one year before Roe v. Wade, my parents, who were just teenagers at the time, chose life. And I am very profoundly grateful that they did. (Cheers) “We have to build a culture that encourages and assists more and more people to make that same decision. This is a critical time to help all moms who are facing unplanned pregnancies, to work with foster children, and to help families who are adopting to volunteer and assist our vital pregnancy resource centers, in our maternity homes and to reach out a renewed hand of compassion and to speak the truth and love. That's what we do.” In Jeremiah 1:5, God says, “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.” Texas begins arresting, charging illegal immigrants And finally, Texas authorities began arresting illegal immigrants at Shelby Park in Eagle Pass on Wednesday after Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton defied a cease-and-desist letter sent by the Biden administration, reports The Epoch Times. The arrests were announced by Lieutenant Chris Olivarez at the Texas Department of Public Safety on X, formerly Twitter, complete with photos and videos. Lieutenant Olivarez said single adult migrant men and women were taken into state custody and charged with criminal trespassing under Governor Greg Abbott's new state law, which allows police to arrest and charge people suspected of entering the country illegally. God's Word, from the very beginning, affirms the dignity of all human life. Genesis 1 tells us that at the end of the creation process, “God said, 'Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.' … 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” This reveals to us that every person is made in the imago Dei, the image of God. And this means that every life, regardless of age, ability, or any other feature, has infinite value that cannot be taken away. The rest of the Bible unwaveringly affirms this truth. The pro-life movement is grounded in this reality and, most fundamentally, has sought to protect our tiniest citizens from the horrors of abortion. The culmination of this work was realized on June 24, 2022, a historic day of celebration as the Supreme Court ruled to overturn the constitutional right to abortion and return abortion legislation back to the states. This was a long-time unifying goal of the pro-life movement. According to The New York Times, since the court's ruling, abortion access has dropped overall, with 21 states banning or restricting it and others reinforcing abortion protections. However, the fight for life and the mission of the pro-life movement is far from over, and there's still much work to be done on the local, state, and federal levels. New frontiers have arisen, with abortion tourism, or travel for abortions across state lines, and chemical abortions, or abortion pills, gaining momentum across our country. As we begin our series, we'll talk to several guests who will give us a clear picture of the current state of the pro-life movement since last year's historic Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization decision. You'll hear from Benjamin Watson, a former NFL tight end, as well as a writer, speaker, and activist. He is the author of, “The New Fight for Life: Roe, Race, and a Pro-Life Commitment to Justice.” He serves as vice president of strategic relationships with the Human Coalition, one of the largest pro-life and pro-woman organizations in the country. Along with his wife, Kirsten, he is the founder of The Watson 7 Foundation, a nonprofit focused on strengthening families. The Watsons live in Georgia with their seven children. Also joining us is Herbie Newell, president & executive director of Lifeline Children's Services and its ministry arms. He holds a Master's of Business Administration in Accounting from Samford University. Under Herbie's leadership, Lifeline has increased international outreach to 25 countries through adoption and strategic orphan care, obtained licensure in 17 states, and established the foster care arm at Lifeline. Finally, you'll hear from Dr. Bart Barber, who is pastor of First Baptist Church of Farmersville, Texas, and president of the Southern Baptist Convention. Our goal on the ERLC Podcast is to help you think biblically about today's cultural issues. When Roe vs. Wade was overturned, Benjamin Watson was happy. But he also felt acutely aware of a complicated truth: millions of people felt devastated by the decision. And so the question became: what's next? On today's episode of The Russell Moore Show, Watson—writer, speaker, and former NFL tight end—shares insights into the state of abortion in America. He and Moore talk about the ways that racial injustice relates to abortion. And they discuss how Christians can engage in the pursuit of public justice for women and the unborn alike. Watson, who serves as the VP of Strategic Relationships for the Human Coalition and co-founded the One More Foundation with his wife, talks about his recent book The New Fight for Life: Roe, Race, and a Pro-Life Commitment to Justice. He and Moore consider the gaps in how the church has addressed abortion historically, and what it may look like to do better in the future. And they consider how God might ask Christians to engage in impacting just one person. It's not every day we get to hear from an NFL football player and his wife about raising 7 children - while trying to honor God, stay married AND do ministry together. Kirsten and Benjamin are the Directors of the NFL for Pro Athletes Outreach. In addition to this important work, they also spend time equipping and encouraging families through speaking and writing. You will enjoy hearing these UGA Bulldogs (both former college athletes) chat a little about football, and we get to hear Kirsten affirm Benjamin ahead of this Father's Day weekend. My favorite part of the episode is when they discuss the non-negotiables in their family. It gives a framework for intentional parenting and how to get ahead of it all with a plan. It also encourages us to be on the same page with our spouses as we encounter the tough moments of parenting. Enjoy! In a post Roe Vs. Wade society the question remains, “Now what?” How will christians in America continue fighting for every life made in the image of God? How can churches and christians have a womb to tomb pro-life ethic? Is it possible to break through political barriers and culture wars to love and serve those in need?I am thrilled to have this conversation with former NFL player Benjamin Watson. Along with being a former tight end, Benjamin is a writer, a speaker, and an activist. He is a college football studio analyst with the SEC Network, and he serves as VP of strategic relationships with the Human Coalition, one of the largest pro-life and pro-women organizations in the country. Along with his wife, Kirsten, he is the founder of The Watson 7 Foundation, a nonprofit focused on strengthening families. They currently reside in Georgia with their seven children. On today's episode Benjamin and I discuss his new book, The New Fight For Life. Abortions in America disproportionately affect African-American women with 76% of abortion-determined women saying they would prefer to parent if their circumstances were different. You'll hear practical ways churches and christians can serve women facing unplanned pregnancies, and the importance of churches providing post-abortion counseling and care. Friends, as we look through scriptures it's easy to see that God has called us to have a pro-life commitment to justice for His image bearers. I pray you lean in and listen and respond to how God moves your heart.
