We start a new interview and dive into the benefits of taking risks. The host of the label-free podcast sits down to share her story. Deanna is recently married (hence the name change) and is living her best life, as her tagline suggests. However, it has not been an easy road. Our discussion reviews numerous challenges she faced and how she overcame them. Spoiler alert, she took risks and avoided playing it safe. Benefits Of Taking Risks The idea of risks is one of those half-full or half-empty ways to examine a subject. One can focus on the upsides of a risk paying off or avoiding the loss of a risk that does not. We are naturally biased to prevent pain and loss, so taking the safe route is more common than embracing risk. While you may see some of Deanna's story as a back-against-the-wall situation, it is still hard to consider her anything but a risk-taker. That embrace of risk has led her to an exciting and enjoyable life. The hope is that her story will motivate you to do the same. Deanna Kuempel is a serial entrepreneur who has owned several successful businesses both by herself and with her late husband. Deanna Kuempel's story is one of struggle, determination, fortitude, faith – and fashion. Born & raised in the Chicagoland area and she studied Business & Accounting at Harper College. She went on to become an entrepreneur, simultaneously running 4 different businesses and closing multi-million dollar contracts. In 2013, Deanna's best friend and husband Richard became critically ill, and they set out on a very difficult battle with his health… one that was all too soon lost. Following open heart surgery and in need of a kidney transplant, Deanna dedicated herself to caring for her husband. Serving as a caregiver in those final days of Richard's life was a true awakening for Deanna. In an instant, she realized the preciousness of this one life we are given, and that we all must live out our legend. After Richard died, Deanna was forced to start over. She always had a passion for fashion and in 2017, embraced the mantra be yourself – be fierce – be fashion by launching the Deanna Marie Label. She designed, produced and launched 3 collections over the course of a few years and was named a finalist for Style Chicago's Design Challenge Presented by Cadillac. In 2019 Deanna read an article on how to start a podcast and just decided to go for it. Having overcome much abuse & trauma she decided on the name Label Free. Deanna Kuempel was born & raised in the Chicagoland area, and studied Business & Accounting at Harper College. Prior to meeting her husband, she had a small event planning business & offered personal training services. She went on to become VP of Key Accounts & Business Operations for a $20million dollar transmission remanufacturing facility with 150 employees simultaneously running 4 other entities (3 commercial real estate holding businesses & 1 installation arm for their manufactured transmissions) for 10yrs. Prior to a life-changing event she closed one of the largest contracts in her career with the State of South Carolina for 5yrs, valued at $20million. Deanna founded Deanna Marie Label in 2017- she designed, produced and launched 3 collections over the course of a few years. She was on the runway in Rhode Island at StyleWeek, and was a finalist for StyleChicago for the Cadillac Design Challenge. She ended her fashion adventure with her last collection at a large runway charity event against Human Trafficking at Stan Mansion in Chicago. Hi All! I am so very excited to take you on this journey with me. I'm looking forward to you getting to know me, getting to know you and to connect on a very human level. I had to drink several glasses of wine to get comfortable talking freely and not having a dialogue. However, I already have recorded 3 other episodes with family & friends and cannot wait for them to get edited and post them. I think these conversations will be very relatable. My intention is to talk about overcoming labels that society puts on us and the labels we put on ourselves. Personal growth is not easy.
