As Nina said in the episode, “I was clinging to this idea of ‘I need to overwork myself to deserve making all of this money.' And I knew in my gut that there was a different way to do this. I was like ‘there's no way, this is sustainable.' I just didn't know how to get there.” Thanks for listening. Thanks for being here. Happy Thanksgiving 2022 to my listeners in the US! I am grateful for you. On today's episode you'll hear my interview with my brother, singer songwriter James Hearne, who recently sold his house and left his job and moved across the country to go all in on his music career as an adult. This interview is full of gems for the working musician. how do you START trying to get work in a new place? how do you not get discouraged when your emails are ignored? how do you balance what the venue needs, what the audience wants, and what YOU care about artistically? can you really make it as a performing musician in this day and age? I want to admit here that James is not in a classical music niche, nor is he doing innovative entrepreneurial work that pushes the boundaries of what creatives can be in the world. BUT I share this conversation with you because I feel like there's value in hearing about the hustle, and about the business side of creating the artistic life you want to lead. You know from my book that I'm not interested in pushing musicians to make their living exclusively through their art. But I AM strongly on the side of creative people choosing the way they want to live and finding ways to make that happen for themselves, and that's why I find James's story so inspiring and I hope you will too. Check out James and listen to his music at his website, his instagram, his twitter, his Patreon. Building a creative business? You need to check out the Ultimate Music Business Summit this January! There are very few things that you do that occupies a third of your life. I used to be under the assumption that sleep was kind of a waste of time. I used to think if there was a magic pill I could take to keep me awake, I would have so much time to do other things!“I'll sleep when I'm dead,” “Sleep is for the weak and unmotivated..” I was so so wrong.Sleep is not lost time! It's not just a way to rest when you're tired or when you have nothing better to do. There are many benefits that come from sleeping. In today's episode we will moving on to our final pillar of total wellness, Pillar #4 Sleep and Recovery. Last week we covered pillar #3 Stress Management and the weeks before that we covered Pillar #1 movement and Pillar #2 Nutrition. so if you haven't listened to those episodes yet, I recommend going back and listening to them first, as this was a presentation that I gave to a company and it had a certain order and flow to it.Total Wellness is a large subject.. and four really important pillars to total wellness are… Movement, Nutrition, Stress Management and Sleep. In this episode, we will touch on some of the struggles that we currently see with the way our society is sleeping… or for some NOT sleeping. Then we will discuss strategies and tips on how to boost our sleep pillar to optimal status.References:Livin' the Dream Podcast Sleep Episodes:“Why SLEEP is so important to your fat loss goals.”https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/livin-the-dream/id1546290282?i=1000510072762“The Four Pillars of Fat Loss.”https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/livin-the-dream/id1546290282?i=1000507196550Book: “Sleep Smarter” by Shawn StevensonProfessor Andrew Huberman: The Huberman Lab Podcasthttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/huberman-lab/id1545953110Sleep Episodes: Episodes 2-5Eatdirtfood.comDiscount code (10% off entire order): DirtyDamien Brain.fm App(First month Free, then 20% off subscription)Discount Code: coachdamien_sdNed:Mello magnesium producthelloned. comDiscount code: "Jameemarie"Links:IG:@coachdamien_sd@damienrayevans@livinthedream_podcast YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCS6VuPgtVsdBpDj5oN3YQTgFB:https://www.facebook.com/coachdamienSD/

Courtney is a dirty thirty something entrepreneur from Minnesota with a double major in criminal justice and massage therapy. We know...it didn't make much sense to us either. Until we dove deeper into her back story and got to know the woman beneath the tough girl image. Her father, a Cuban immigrant, was imprisoned when she was born, and spent over 20 of her first 25 years incarcerated. These arrests led to her first encounter with law enforcement--as well as having a duty weapon pointed at her head at 6 years old. Several people in her family were diagnosed with MS quite young, and found that massage therapy was significantly more effective (both physically and financially) than pharmaceutical treatment. This lead her to pursue her associates degree in massage therapy. Growing up in a very small Minnesota town on the Iowa/Wisconsin border, she was subjected to plenty of things growing up, from sexual assault, domestic violence, drug abuse and overdose, fertility struggles/pregnancy loss, racism, police brutality, her own run ins with law enforcement/incarceration, homelessness, and of course the family business of organized crime, etc. Through all of the adversity she has overcome, however, she earned the nickname "Phoenix", as she's somehow managed to continuously rise from the ashes of her own destruction. In September of 2020, during the Nationwide lockdown, she set out to create a safe space for local women to connect, vent and just be authentically and unapologetically themselves. This was the birth of the Facebook group "The Unladylike Lounge". What was intended to be a short lived, tristate women's empowerment group, quickly snowballed, and within it's first three weeks, had a membership of over 1,000 women from all over the country. Two years later, that same group has grown to an astonishing 8.3k women spanning OVER 21 nations across the globe! The "Unladies" as they affectionately call themselves, are the women who don't quite fit the cookie cutter standards for other women's empowerment or mom groups. They're the ones with quick wit, twisted senses of humor, filthy mouths, scars on their knuckles...self described as Crude: with a heart of gold. They don't always agree, they don't always get along...hell...they don't always like one another. But they ALWAYS have one another's back whether a sister is in need of a funny meme, a cute pet pic, tough love or simply someone to remind them that they're not alone in whatever life is throwing their way at the moment.https://theunladylikelounge.com

Say It Skillfully® is a show that helps you to benefit from Molly Tschang's expert guidance on the best possible ways to speak your mind at work in a positive and productive manner. Episode 156 is the 30th monthly feature of “Our Voices,” intended to accelerate social change that levels the playing field—helping everyone live to their full potential. The aim is for you to see a bit of yourself in these journeys, and embrace—we're more similar than not. Molly is joined by Mariana Sanz shares how values of liberty, freedom and hard work passed through the generations from descendants who fled the Spanish civil war. Mariana is thankful for how her parents influenced her as a child—entrenching good values, making her adverse to laziness, helping her to be self-confident, and always opening new roads for her. Hear all about her early years, including the meeting of her mentor, Rossana, who helped her every step of the way and ignited her love for communications. Then, Mariana talks about her early career years, aspiring to be communications director at the White House, eventually moving to work in PR. Hear about the tough times she faced while working as a public servant in Mexico... having to separate herself from corruption, feeling like she never fit in, eventually realizing she would never be happy as a public servant. Also, don't miss the story of how—after falling behind on family expectations for having children—Mariana met her husband in a way that you might not expect. Mariana shares top takeaways that she's learned over the years as an expert in communications, including the importance of being yourself and following your values, and what the most important part of being a good communicator is. Mariana not only leads the way in solving complex communications challenges, but also in nurturing a positive family life with her husband and two amazing sons. She inspires us to know no boundaries and to commit to taking action so that all can be safe, seen and heard, and our true and best selves. Molly's thought for the week (thanks Mariana!): Be present. Be where you are.
Bill Carter says Isaiah offers a holy invitation to live the dream God has for us all. To live as generously as Jesus. To respect, serve, and love one another. It's not enough to have the dream; the dream must also take flesh in our lives.

In today's episode we will moving on to the next pillar of total wellness, nutrition. Last week we covered pillar #1 Movement so if you haven't listened to that episode yet, I recommend going back and listening to that first, as this was a presentation that I gave to a company and it had a certain order and flow to it.We are breaking the topic of TOTAL WELLNESS down into four important pillars. So the goal is to learn how important these big rocks are and how we can leverage them to improve our Total Wellness.. I'll bring up what we covered in that presentation but we are also going to go much deeper on each topic.Total Wellness is a large subject.. and four really important pillars to total wellness are… Movement, Nutrition, Stress Management and Sleep. Today, we will touch on some of the struggles that we currently see with the way our society is consuming food. Then we will discuss strategies and tips on how to boost our nutrition pillar to optimal status. The process of eating is one of the most magical things we experience as human beings. We take stuff from the outside world, put it into our bodies, where our digestive system breaks the food down and that food then BECOMES US! When I look at you, when I look at your face, I see the protein you have eaten and I see how your body broke it down into small amino acid building blocks, and somehow, your body told those building blocks where to go, and what to become. “Dang, you all have some beautiful protein!”What we can agree on is that food is powerful. It can harm and it can heal.Hipocrattes was the father of medicine and lived over 2400 years ago, and he is quoted saying, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” References: Dr. Mark Hyman:IG: @drmarkhymanBooks:Food What the Heck Should I EatFood FixThe Pegan DietPodcast Links:“The history of our food system: What's wrong and how to fix it w/ Mark Bittman”https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-doctors-farmacy-with-mark-hyman-m-d/id1382804627?i=1000508455369“How to fix our food system and save humans and the planet”https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-doctors-farmacy-with-mark-hyman-m-d/id1382804627?i=1000466619412 Dr. Stephen CabralBook: The Rain Barrel EffectPodcast: The Cabral ConceptEpisode on Anti-inflammation Foods: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-cabral-concept/id1071469441?i=1000583777383 Shawn Stevenson Podcast: The Model Health Show Book: Eat Smarter (and Sleep Smarter) Eatdirtfood.comDiscount code (10% off entire order): DirtyDamien Brain.fm App(First month Free, then 20% off subscription)Discount Code: coachdamien_sd Links:IG:@coachdamien_sd@damienrayevans@livinthedream_podcast YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCS6VuPgtVsdBpDj5oN3YQTgFB:https://www.facebook.com/coachdamienSD/

We are joined by LSU baseball stud Brayden Jobert. We talk growing up in Louisiana with a Dad who played and coaches the game and how he was able to help Brayden develop success from an early age. We discuss high school and travel ball, and what ultimately landed him at Nicholls State. We talk about what he learned from Nicholls, Delgado, summer ball in Orlando and what it felt like to get that call to go to the school he dreamed of playing at his whole life. We dive into everything LSU from last year to what's on deck this year. Then as always we play a game of this or that, which I must say got a little interesting. Our team was recently asked to give a talk on TOTAL WELLNESS to a group of creative, artistic, highly motivated and skilled individuals, who work for a fashion company over in NY. Shout out to all the companies of Dana-Co. We broke TOTAL WELLNESS up into 4 important pillars and the next few episodes will be a breakdown of each of those pillars. *Our first pillar is MOVEMENT!*It's an understatement to say that the complexity of a human being is overwhelming. The human brain alone is the most sophisticated and complex structure in the known universe. Add that machine to the self healing, tolerant, extraordinary, anti fragile human body and it's hard to know where to begin. Oh, and let's not forget about our complex emotional and psychological factors that go along with all of that. Things we know:1. You have no idea of your physical capacities or resilience.2. The resting state of a human being is pain free.3. Your body is designed to function well over a lifetime, that could EASILY last over 100 years. *The question is when you make it to your later years… how capable do you want to be? How strong and independent do you want to be? How can we make our HEALTHspan line up perfectly with our LIFEspan. Let's break down the 4 pillars of total wellness together and figure it out together. Stephanie CotsirilosAs author of the novella My Xanthi and published finalist in Mississippi Review's Prize in Fiction, Stephanie writes about humor, injustice, and the resilience of the human heart. Tapping her multiracial family and careers on and off Broadway and as a lawyer, Stephanie is also author of songs and scripts produced in New York, short stories, and essays. Last year, as inaugural Krant Fellow at Storyknife's Writers Retreat in Alaska, Stephanie rediscovered the intangible thing that law and the arts share: through mercy or otherwise, they search for the mystery within people. That's what she's looking for.Author of the novella My Xanthi, Stephanie is a writer and lawyer who draws on a first career on and off Broadway. Stephanie has a multiracial family with strong memories of immigration – her first language was Greek, and not all her grandparents could read and write. Though she became a professional woman in ways they couldn't have imagined, she still care about people's capacity to transcend hard times with humor and resilience. Ask her Chinese-American sister-in-law, who saw the movie “My Big Fat Greek Wedding,” and said, “That could be my family.” Bingo: she saw the struggle for identity and the daily nuttiness and grace of striving families everywhere. Stephanie would love to talk about that with readers. As a woman lucky enough to have had several careers, Stephanie often write to pay tribute to her forebears or people like them, whether at the Mexican border or elsewhere. her family's aspirations were not always identical to her own, though. she was educated at Brown and Yale yet for a while, she chose to be a performing artist in a family of attorneys. That pushed some boundaries. After she became a lawyer, too, she discovered that the arts and law provide special windows into the human story. She now uses both perspectives to become an author. She cares about the differences between law and justice, about the elevation of elder women characters, and about the mystery that lifts people facing the almost unspeakable. Stephanie hopes humor leavens her approach. Goodness knows, her Greek grandmothers provided enough material. Stephanie suspects the same richness lurks in many listeners' families, and that they search for their unique internal mysteries as well.www.stephaniecotsirilos.com
