Hier lesen Sie, wie Rouven seine zurückliegende Funktion als NextGen im Beirat der Joseph Dresselhaus GmbH & Co. Did you know that the mass of steel produced yearly is four times the mass of humans on this planet? Did you know that the steel industry accounts for almost 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions? In this episode, we learn from Assistant Professor Leora Dresselhaus-Marais. She leads a lab at Stanford focused on decarbonizing this massive and ever-growing sector.
Mike Brown, the man who demoted Pluto, is now hot on the trail of a new planet 9, much bigger than Earth and way beyond Neptune. And the brilliant career of his fellow Kavli Prize winner, Millie Dresselhaus – the “Queen of Carbon” and pioneer of nanoscience – is remembered by her biographer, Maia Weinstock.
Carbon Queen: The Remarkable Life of Nanoscience Pioneer Mildred Dresselhaus (MIT Press, 2022) follows Mildred Dresselhaus (or Millie, as everyone calls her) from her childhood in New York City to her final years in Cambridge. It focuses on her scientific achievements, but also rightfully presents her as a multi-hyphenate: being a resilient student, an adaptive researcher, a professor, an administrator, an advocate, a fundraiser, a patent owner, a book author. The accolades are plentiful and her involvement in science seemingly boundless. Maia Weinstock masterfully blends anecdotes and scientific explanations into the life story of a truly phenomenal scientist. In this episode of the podcast, we discuss Millie's multifaceted career, as well as the process of putting the book together, and Maia's history course on women in science. Ana Georgescu studied astrophysics and physics at Harvard University and is now a science consultant and writer based in New York City. Learn more about your ad choices. For this episode we will be sharing a talk from Steve Dresselhaus. Steve serves as TEAM’s senior director for global ministry with a focus on Latin America. He also serves as TEAM’s strategist for care of creation. Steve was raised in Venezuela where his parents served as career missionaries with TEAM. Shortly after his marriage to his wife Lois, Steve enrolled in the Seminario Bíblico Rio Grande in preparation for missionary service, serving first in Caracas and then eventually for seventeen years in La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico, where Steve served as the ministry area leader. In addition to his leadership role, he was involved with the starting of churches, a safe house for abused women and children, and a discipleship oriented ministry using sea kayaks in Mexico’s Sea of Cortez. Steven Spicer and Mike Soderling host this edition of the Creation Care Missions Podcast. Find the full text of talk Steve Dresselhaus gave at CreationCareMissions.org
Dick and Elnora Dresselhaus see the need for stronger blending and bridging of the generations. They yearn for more older adults to join them in saying to younger generations, “Don’t leave us. And don’t let us leave you.” Similar to racial segregation, they recognize that generational segregation can also have tragic consequences.

We're back for Season 2, and this episode is inspired by what our listeners want to hear! Kayla and Sally are huge fans of listener-recommended science crush, the late MIT Prof. Millie Dresselhaus: Queen of Carbon Science, tireless advocate for women in STEM, and winner of the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the National Medal of Science in Engineering. A recent GE commercial asks, "What if we treated female scientists like they were stars? What if Millie Dresselhaus was as famous as any celebrity?" Kayla and Sally are 100% behind this mission, and plot meet-cutes with the sci-lebrities in their lives. Also, in the first-ever listener-submitted Better Talk Next Time stories, listeners tackle biased perceptions of women in engineering, how to deal when your significant other believes damaging STEM stereotypes, and other *fun* themes. Don't worry, listeners - you do belong in science! Please rate us on the Apple Podcast app/iTunes store! An Institute Professor at MIT, Dr. Mildred Dresselhaus received the Presidential Medal of Freedom Award in November 2014 for her outstanding scientific research, principally in carbon science and carbon nanostructures. But she is also widely known for promoting the advancement of women in science and engineering -- the subject of this interview. (Originally released 12/13/14)
Dr. Mildred Dresselhaus, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Department of Physics Nanoscience research investigates the behavior of materials at the atomic level. It has led to a dramatic increase in our understanding about why these materials behave differently from larger ones and how they could benefit society. Dr. Dresselhaus, winner of the 2012 Kavli Prize in nanoscience, will discuss this research.
