This is the soundtrack to a film strip from 1965. It is narrated by Bill Richardson.  Senator H. L. Richardson was a nationally recognized, twenty-two-year veteran of the California State Senate who focused his extensive political career on the preservation and protection of our Second Amendment rights. An active hunter and outdoorsman, Senator Richardson was vigorously involved on the state and national scene, racking up political victories that spanned more than four decades. In 1966, H. L. “Bill” Richardson, a successful advertising executive, was elected to the State Senate the same year Ronald Reagan was elected California's Governor.  Because of his vast hunting and outdoor experience, he was tapped to Chair the Senate Fish and Game Committee, and was elected by his Republican colleagues to a leadership position as Caucus Chairman, a post he held for many years. In the early 1970's, the Senator became very aware of the worldwide inroads the radical left were making in politics, most specifically their consistent attempts to disarm Americans. He became a life member of the NRA and, with their encouragement, authored the state preemption of firearms law which in 2009 resulted in overturning the recently enacted San Francisco handgun ban.  He was subsequently elected to the NRA Board of Directors, where he served for over a decade. In 1975, the radical left introduced legislation to ban all handguns in California. The bill generated strong support from elected officials and the main-stream media, which triggered Richardson to mobilize enraged citizens from throughout the state.  It was at this point that Gun Owners of California was born, a direct mail attack was unleashed and the bill was defeated.  Gun Owners of America soon followed and Richardson's keen skill for mobilizing single individuals toward a common goal launched a very effective political movement that continues to focus on the preservation of the Second Amendment.During his 22 years in the California Senate, Richardson showed that a determined application of confrontational politics could produce big victories.  While in office, in addition to GOC and GOA, Richardson organized multiple Political Action Committees [PACs] that raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to fight the political left. One such committee was “Law and Order Campaign Committee” which led the charge to defeat Chief Justice Rose Bird and two other liberal members of the state Supreme Court. The three anti-victim justices were defeated by over a million votes. LOCC then pushed for the return of capital punishment, a move strongly opposed by the liberal leadership of both houses and Governor Jerry Brown (during his first term in office). Using massive direct mail pressure, the bill passed both houses but in spite of heavy support from the public, the bill was vetoed.  LOCC refused to give up, and using targeted direct mail and the mobilization of concerned citizens, Governor Jerry Brown's veto was overridden.Richardson took this sharp political insight and wrote a virtual “game plan” for political wins with his controversial book, Confrontational Politics.   He clearly explained his core belief that politics should be a struggle of competing ideologies, not a game of compromise and accommodation.  A published author, other works include “Slightly to the Right,” an entertaining yet informative book written in the 60's that taught conservatives how to debate their liberal friends.  It became an immediate conservative classic which sold over 250,000 copies nationally.“What Makes You Think We Read the Bills?” was written while Richardson was in the Senate and provides rare, yet funny insight into the real-life workings of the Legislature.  It has been used as a textbook in political science classes throughout California.Richardson also combined his love of writing and extensive knowledge of the American West to write a series of Western mysteries, beginning with “The Devil's Eye”, and followed by the sequel “The Shadows of Crazy Mountain.” For a change of pace, he authored “Split Ticket,” a political comedy based in Sacramento, California. His unique perspectives and use of humor kept him in demand as a speaker and writer, and he provided colorful media commentary on a host of issues.  He was the recipient of numerous awards and accolades from fellow Second Amendment organizations, and received such notable recognition as Outstanding Statesman Award from the Conservative Caucus, Law and Order Award from American Educational League, the Guardian of Freedom Award from (YAF) Young Americans for Freedom and the Ronald Reagan Freedom Fighter Award.  He was also recognized for his exceptional work in law enforcement, having earned commendations from California homicide investigators, swat teams, police, parole and correctional organizations.Senator Richardson had three children and seven grandchildren.  He was married to his beloved wife Barbara for 57 years.  He resided in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, east of Sacramento, California, until his passing on January 13, 2020.Please visit our website www.campconstitution.net

(This interview is dedicated to my friend Randy Lee, a dedicated public health nurse, who passed away earlier this week.)   Justin Smith in his book published earlier this year, The Internet is Not What You Think It Is, argued the internet is addictive, its use of algorithms leaves our lives warped and impoverished and despite these problems there is little or no federal regulatory oversight.  Concerning the internet's effects on children, Dr. Linn argues in her recently published work, Who's Raising the Kids, that our digital landscape essentially invades children's privacy in order to use their personal information to drive endless consumerism.  Children's screen use, that amounts to upwards of 7.5 hours on average per day - substantially longer for poor and minority children - is having profound negative effects on children of every age.  Generally by threatening childhood development and more specifically Dr. Linn noted by, for example, driving childhood anxiety, conflictual relationships with parents and family stress, depression, diminished language development, eating disorders, erosion of creative play, materialistic values, obesity, precocious sexuality, sleep disturbances, underachievement in school and youth violence.During this 35 minute interview Dr. Linn begins by explaining how Mattel's Aristotle (never commercially launched) and Epic's Fortnite are designed to drive revenue.  She discusses how digital games erodes or undermines children's creative play, how the use of various marketing tools or approaches drive every digital experience leading to a purchase, for example, by creating "frictionless" online experiences.  She discusses the influence corporations have in formal education programming via Sponsored Education Materials (SEMS), discusses what parents can do to monitor children's screen use, what federal policies have been proposed to protect children's privacy and regulate how digital game design and what action the American Psychological Association has taken.               Dr. Susan Linn is currently a Research Associate at Boston Children's Hospital and Lecturer on Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.  She has lectured on the importance of creative play, the impact of media and marketing on children and the use of puppetry as a therapeutic tool in venues throughout North and South America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.   From 2000 to 2015 Dr. Linn was the Founding Director of Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood.  Dr. Linn and her puppets appeared in several episodes of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.  She has written and appeared in a number of video programs designed to help children cope with issues ranging from mental illness to death and loss. This Secret Should Be Told, a syndicated TV program for children about sexual abuse won her a coveted Action for Children's Television and earned Dr. Linn a New England Emmy Award.  With Fred Rogers' production company, Dr. Linn created the acclaimed educational video series Different and the Same: Helping Children Identify and Prevent Prejudice.  Different and the Same has been used in classrooms in all 50 states and won numerous awards including the two top prizes from the International Communication Film and Video Competition and the Media Award from the Association of Multicultural Educators.  Her book, Consuming Kids helped launch the movement to reclaim childhood from corporate marketers.  Her work has been featured on Good Morning America, Today, Sixty Minutes, Dateline, The Colbert Report, and the acclaimed documentary The Corporation.  Among other honors, Dr. Linn received an UNIMA-USA citation for excellence; a special award for puppet therapy from Puppeteers of America; A Champion of Freedom Award from the Electronic Privacy Information Center; The Creative Leadership Award from the Puppet Showplace Theater; and, a Presidential Citation from the American Psychological Association for her work on behalf of children.Information on Who's Raising the Kids is at: https://thenewpress.com/books/whos-raising-kids.  This is a public episode. The war Russia has waged on Ukraine has seemed largely kinetic, but the most effective weapons weilded thus far have been consumer technologies. Putin has pursued a hybrid warfare strategy, yet the Ukrainians have fought his mendacious claims with the realities of conflict captured by mobile devices and social media. Bogged down by guerilla fighting in Ukrainian cities, Putin will view offensive cyber action and aggressive information warfare as increasingly appealing options. Richard Clarke, former U.S. National Coordinator for Security, Infrastructure Protection and Counterterrorism, and the nation's first "Cyber Czar," will give us an inside look at what the world has learned about the spillover of warfare in an era of advanced cyber threats. In his latest book, The Fifth Domain: Defending Our Country, Our Companies, and Ourselves in the Age of Cyber Threats, Clarke delves deep into the political and economic calculations of cyber conflict. He also provides concrete steps that can be taken to achieve cyber resilience, during peacetime and amidst international conflict, including building more resistant systems and raising the costs for escalations in cyberspace. About the speaker: Richard A. Clarke served for thirty years in national security policy roles in the US Government, first in the Pentagon, then the State Department, and finally for an unprecedented decade of continuous service for three Presidents in the White House. In the White House National Security Council for President Bush (41), Clinton, and Bush (43) he served as Special Assistant to the President for Global Affairs, National Coordinator for Security and Counter-terrorism ("Terrorism Czar'), and Special Advisor for Cyberspace (the first "Cyber Czar").  Earlier, in the State Department he had been appointed as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Intelligence in the Reagan Administration and was confirmed by the Senate as Assistant Secretary of State for Politico-Military Affairs in the Bush (41) Administration. In the latter capacity, he coordinated elements in support of the First Gulf War. In the Pentagon and the State Department, he participated in a series of multilateral and bilateral nuclear arms control negotiations.Following his government career, Dick Clarke was an on-air analyst for ABC News for fifteen years, taught at the Harvard Kennedy School for five years, lead a security risk management consulting firm (Good Harbor), and served on corporate advisory boards and Boards of Directors, as well as chairing or serving on state and federal advisory boards on cybersecurity (including President Obama's Advisory Group on Technology and Intelligence, the "NSA Review Group").  He is the Chair of the Board of Governors of the Middle East Institute, an eight decade old educational institution based in Washington. He was a member of President Obama's 2008 Transition team.Clarke's books include both non-fiction (5) and fiction (4). His seminal work on terrorism and al qaeda, Against All Enemies, was a number one NY Times best seller. His 2010 volume Cyber War, co-authored with Rob Knake, was a Washington Post bestseller and acknowledged as an early and foundational book in the field. Its sequel, the Fifth Domain; Defending our Country, our Corporations and Ourselves in the Age of Cyber Threats, also written with Knake, was published in 2019.Clarke is the host of the FUTURE STATE podcast. He is the recipient of membership in the Cybersecurity Hall of Fame, the RSA Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Champion of Freedom Award from the Electronic Privacy Information Center. A graduate of Boston Latin School, the University of Pennsylvania, and MIT, Dick Clarke is a resident of Virginia.

Today I talked to Meredith Hall about her new novel Beneficence (Godine, 2020). A beautiful family is torn apart by a shocking loss, and three of its members blame themselves. It's the middle of the twentieth century, their farm in Maine needs tending, and the seasons move swiftly with specific chores and tasks. The cows need calving, the chickens need feeding, the laundry needs washing, the rugs need airing, the food needs preparing. But each member of the family is numb from their huge loss, and they go their separate ways, telling small bits of the story as their lives unfold. Their dreams and hopes change, and some decisions have harsh consequences, but slowly, through the changing seasons, they struggle to make their way back to the family they once loved. Meredith Hall taught in the MFA program at the University of New Hampshire for many years. In her late fifties, she wrote an essay that won the Pushcart Prize, and on the basis of that encouragement, she was awarded the Gift of Freedom Award, which provided two years of dedicated writing. Her memoir Without a Map was named a best book of the year by Kirkus and BookSense and was both a NYT bestseller and an Elle magazine Reader's Pick of the Year. She was a recipient of the 2004 Gift of Freedom Award from A Room of Her Own Foundation and her work has appeared in Five Points, The Gettysburg Review, The Kenyon Review, The Southern Review, The New York Times, and many other publications. Hall writes while listening to Gregorian chant, and when she is not writing or reading, she is outdoors, finding beautiful wild places. She spends her time in Northern California and Maine, so beauty is available all around her, vital sustenance. She loves and needs the arts and spends each winter in the Bay Area gorging on performances of contemporary dance, modern and classical music, and drama. She wanders museums and galleries a lot. Her family and friends are at the center, always. G.P. Gottlieb is the author of the Whipped and Sipped Mystery Series and a prolific baker of healthful breads and pastries. This program was held live on Wednesday, November 18 - 12:00pm - 1:00pm About the book: When they meet in the 1930s, Doris and Tup's love is immediate. They marry quickly and Doris commits to the only life Tup ever wanted: working the Senter family farm, where his parents and grandparents and great-grandparents are buried under the old pines. Their lives follow the calming rhythms of the land—chores in the cow barn, haying the fields, tending their gardens—and in this they find immeasurable joy. Soon their first child, Sonny, is born and Doris and Tup understand they are blessed. More children arrive—precocious, large-hearted Dodie and quiet, devoted Beston—but Doris and Tup take nothing for granted. They are grateful every day for the grace of their deep bonds to each other, to their family, and to their bountiful land. As they hold fast to this contentment, Doris is uneasy, and confesses, “We can't ever know what will come.” When an unimaginable tragedy turns the family of five into a family of four, everything the Senters held faith in is shattered. The family is consumed by a dark shadow of grief and guilt. Slowly, the surviving Senters must find their way to forgiveness—of themselves and of each other. New York Times bestselling author Meredith Hall's radiant debut novel is a study of love—both its gifts and its obligations—that will stay with readers long after the last page. With a rare tenderness and compassion, Beneficence illuminates the heart's enduring covenants and compromises. About the authors: Meredith Hall is the author of the novel Beneficence. The Sustainability Agenda

In this episode, Professor Frances Fox Piven talks about this unique moment in United States history in which there is an extensive social movement against fascism. While brought to life by a revulsion and anger at police brutality against African American people, it also carries a host of grievances related to the strength of neoliberalism in the United States. Frances talks about the many ways in which collective action and popular power manifest; not just through strikes or the withholding of labor but also the withholding of other forms of cooperation in obeying the rules of our society. Children can refuse to go to school; people can refuse to obey traffic laws. The complexity of our society and its interdependence increases our popular power. She also talks about the deep economic issues stemming from both consumer capitalism and a level deeper, with the love of “stuff” and dependency upon fossil fuels. There is substantial work to be done to create alternatives to the use of fossil fuels when right now entire sections of the country are heavily dependent. The U.S. needs to find its way to a Green New Deal through the disruptive effects of mass movements. Voting and forming non-profits aren't enough to stop some of the most powerful interests in American and world politics. Looking to the past, Occupy Wall Street was a success in that it drew attention where it was needed, and in the present, the current Black Lives Matter movement is taking the next step in demanding action to address spiraling increase in inequality in U.S.With November around the corner, Dr. Piven is counting on the current movement to help with electoral victory in 2020. She calls this an exciting and promising time, with hopes that the active protesting can continue to change the course of policy in the United States and create better well-being for the American people. Professor Piven is a renowned social scientist and life-long advocate for working people and the poor. The publication of Regulating the Poor, her ground-breaking book with Richard A. Cloward, ignited a debate that reshaped the field of social welfare policy. Her other books include Poor People's Movements, The Breaking of the American Social Compact, and Challenging Authority. Dr. Piven has been a recipient of Fulbright and Guggenheim awards and has been a visiting professor at the University of Amsterdam, Hebrew University, and the University of Bologna.Dr. Piven was a founder of the National Welfare Rights Organization (NWRO) and was a co-founder of the Human Service Employees Registration and Voter Education Campaign, which led to legislation popularly known as the “motor voter” bill. She serves on the boards of several advocacy organizations, including Project Vote and Wellstone Action. Her many honors include the Shirley Chisholm Lights of Freedom Award from Community Voices Heard and the Puffin Prize for Creative Citizenship.

Clip 18-1 (Global News) Trump announces the late Elvis Presley at Presidential Medal of Freedom Award presentation...1.05 https://youtu.be/avBl_Pf3k_8 They played a brief part of “How Great Thou Art” by Elvis (The King), and Trump criticized his staff for having no promotional ability. I'm glad he picked Orrin Hatch and Antonin Scalia for the awards, as well as Babe Ruth! Also: Over 1200 missing and 76 dead in the Nor Cal fire. Trump visited the areas along with Gavin Newsom & Jerry Brown. We may play clips from AP. https://youtu.be/cmSP2a29sW8 DETERMINING TRUTH: When I'm looking at someone for truth, I'm not looking for them to cite facts. If they cite too many facts then I don't trust them, in fact. They're trying to prove something, and trying to intimidate and convince. They call them con artists. Convince artists. (Correction: CONFIDENCE Artists!) Example: Qasim Rashid, whose video we put out this week, rattled off facts but isn't close to truth. He's a very emotional person too. Also John Fugelsang. Someone commented about my saying intellectualism is emotionalism. Intellectuals are emotional so they retreat into their intellect. It's a lack of confidence — they're insecure. Just look at them. James got calls from Steven from Delaware, who called this a beta male show because we don't talk about "a certain group," and he speculated about who signs James's checks. Big Cal of TN went more into that topic, but James said it feels so manipulative when callers sneak in all this info about the Israel lobby. Skip of Augusta, GA, is still confused about facts versus truth. He appreciates the people in the live chat supporting him. He walked in the pool doing physical therapy. More intellectuals: Michael Wood, Jr., on "racist outcomes." (Tommy Sotomayor and Jesus can explain this.) Michael Avenatti on women's rights and equality. (Eye roll.) CNN on the stuff they push and the people they put in front of the camera. (un-American.) National Geographic - they're ok with documenting beavers making a dam, but not with human beings' gender and globalist socialism. (Anti-morality propaganda.) Giuseppe went in on Skip for telling a joke that James didn't get. Lucan of Pomona, CA, talks about how people get caught up with talking about powerful people, but ignoring their own issues. James talked about losers and winners. Elliott of Santa Monica, CA, is confused about "love" versus "like," and James can't necessarily answer what love is, but it's not emotions!

In Episode 2 of Among The People, Father John Dear joins us to discuss how he has committed his life to promoting world peace, social justice, non-violence and awareness to the extreme dangers we face with climate change. His empowering message will motivate you to deeply consider your personal role in ending violence, racism and poverty as he shares his own accounts of non-violent activism, incarceration, protest and putting himself in harm’s way for the promotion of peace and justice. “To be a Christian, is to be a person of non-violence. Which means to be a christian you cannot have anything to do with war, racism, greed, nuclear weapons, environmental destruction … you have to be continuing Jesus’ life of revolutionary non-violence.” His profound stories range from hitch-hiking through war ravaged Lebanon, where from the Sea of Galilee he witnessed Israeli bombs drop upon the place where Jesus spoke. Father Dear goes on to share his reflections from his life-long work that has taken him around the world, from the most dangerous war-zones to the streets of the largest cities, spreading his message in protest to violence and social injustice. Father Dear is an author and sought after lecturer on the topics of peace, disarmament and nonviolence throughout the United States, and around the world, including national speaking tours of England, Australia and New Zealand. Father Dear has received several peace awards, including the 2010 Pacem in Terris Peace and Freedom Award and has been nominated several times for the Nobel Peace Prize. In January 2008 he was nominated by Archbishop Desmond Tutu and with Leo Rebello in 2015. Today, Father Dear lives completely off the grid on a remote mountain top in the desert, but continues his busy schedule of education people on the necessity of creating a new culture of peace throughout the world. “We all have to become activists, we all need to stand in opposition to the culture of war.”

Every year, coincident with the Army-Navy Game, the organization presents its “Defender of Freedom Award” to an individual whose character, courage and selfless deeds inspire virtuous service from the rest of us. This year’s recipient, U.S. Marine Lieutenant Andrew Kinard unequivocally meets these criteria."
