Welcome, my ghoulish loves! In this final episode of Dark Thirst, I'm diving into pop culture's undying obsession with vampires. From the sensual chaos of True Blood to the glittering restraint of Twilight, and from Coppola's lavish Dracula to Eggers' haunting Nosferatu, I explore how every vampire revival mirrors what's happening in society. From our fears, desires, and shifting ideals of beauty. What do these immortal beings say about us and the times we live in?After centuries of fascination, it's clear, we don't just crave the vampire. We crave what they promise. *Listener Discretion is Strongly Advised*************Sources & References:Auerbach, Nina. Our Vampires, Ourselves. University of Chicago Press, 1995.Gelder, Ken. What if the body already knows what the mind can't quite say? In this episode of Mind Your Own Karma: Beyond the Bandage, Dr. Marybeth Weinstock, PhD, BC-DMT, unpacks the healing language of movement. A lifelong dancer, somatic therapist, and creative arts practitioner, Marybeth explains how Dance/Movement Therapy helps unlock trauma, reconnect people with their bodies, and offer new pathways to transformation. We explore how she integrates Internal Family Systems (IFS), why movement accesses truth in ways talk therapy can't, and what to do if the idea of “dancing” your way to healing makes you uncomfortable. This episode is for anyone ready to step out of their head and into their body-and discover what's waiting there. What you'll learn in this episode: · What Dance/Movement Therapy actually is-and isn't.· Why movement is a doorway to healing that words can't always open.· The difference between Creative Arts and Expressive Arts Therapies.· How Dr. Marybeth integrates IFS with somatic practices.· Common resistances clients face with movement-based therapy.· How body image and disconnection show up-and how DMT can help.· Why she calls her approach a methodology, not just a modality.. A powerful story of transformation through movement.A gentle first step for those curious but hesitant to try it. Talking to Tish Weinstock offers the kind of unfiltered honesty — or, as she calls it, radical honesty — that every interviewer hopes to find in a guest. She has a unique ability to move between the frivolous and the deeply meaningful with equal parts wit and whimsy, leaving you to wonder whether she's someone who refuses to take herself too seriously or simply someone who won't struggle against whatever feels truthful in the moment. Whether you know her from her work as a writer, her time in front of the camera or on the runway, or simply as a familiar face at all the right parties, she's one to watch for anyone curious about culture and the people shaping it. In a conversation that spans her early experiences with loss and grief, the chaos of her intern years, and a recent visit to a trauma retreat in America, this episode has a little something for everyone. “When I wrote that piece called I'm an intern, not an idiot and someone from upstairs came running in to tell me to take it down, that's when I realized your words actually matter, that they can shake something even if the system doesn't want them to.” - Tish Weinstock Episode Highlights: On early influences Tish grew up in London in a traditional home marked by early loss, gravitating to darker, sardonic heroines and art that felt surreal, spooky, and sincere. On first contact with fashion She obsessed over ad campaigns on her bedroom wall and later realized that what drew her in was storytelling through images as much as clothes. On finding the door in A chance encounter at a friend's house led to internships at Tank and Garage where she learned the grind and took her first steps into writing. On writing as power At i-D she published I'm an intern, not an idiot and learned that words move systems even when the system pushes back. On becoming a beauty writer by accident She did not care about products at first and then noticed beauty as identity and language in a new wave of body positivity, drag, and Instagram natives. On Isamaya French and Dazed Beauty Collaborating there showed her how beauty can merge subculture, technology, and art long before the wider culture caught up. On creativity and authenticity The work sings when the obsession is real and it falls flat when the topic is traffic bait that she does not care about. On writing today Substack rekindled her love of writing as a living diary where immediacy and imperfection feel more honest than highly polished feeds. On wellness and the mind A week without a phone at a trauma program helped her reframe negative thoughts and confirmed that presence is a practice not an arrival. On what is contemporary now Radical honesty feels most alive today since culture is saturated with performance and curation and audiences are hungry for what is real. Blickst du auf dein Leben und findest, du hast bislang nicht allzu viel vorzuzeigen? Jesus will das ändern.

In this episode Jack Tuckner, Esq. and Catherine Crider, Esq. of Tuckner, Sipser, Weinstock & Sipser, LLP, a NY-based law firm dedicated to workplace gender rights, join us to discuss the significant challenges faced by women at midlife, particularly around menopause, and how the workplace can better support them. The conversation is a deep dive into the legal landscape of workplace accommodations, how to navigate discussions about menopause with employers, and why it's critical to push for legislative changes, such as a Menopause Workplace Fairness Act.With over 20 years of experience, Jack advocates for working women at all stages of their reproductive life cycle, from pregnancy through menopause. His practice focuses on combating sexual harassment, pregnancy discrimination, illegal gender pay disparity, sex discrimination, maternity leave matters, unlawful retaliation, and wrongful termination. He has long fought for women's rights and against the unequal and wrongful treatment of women in the workplace. In doing so, Jack has gained a reputation for feminist activism and the pursuit of gender justice in pay for all women. Catherine works with the team advocating for women's rights in the workplace. As part of her advocacy, she represents clients facing challenges including combating sexual harassment, pregnancy discrimination, illegal pay disparity, and other forms of workplace discrimination. In addition to being a lawyer, Catherine is an active labor and postpartum doula helping families. When she's not working with families one-on-one, she teaches childbirth education and postpartum classes for new parents across the United States.Topics covered in this episode:Understanding the Legal Landscape Around Menopause: While there are no specific laws in place directly addressing menopause currently, the symptoms women experience during perimenopause and menopause could fall under existing protections like the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), and the Civil Rights Act (Title VII). These laws provide a foundation for women to request reasonable accommodations, such as flexibility in scheduling or adjustments to the work environment. Why Workplace Accommodations are Crucial: Menopause, much like pregnancy, requires acknowledgment in the workplace. Women at midlife may face challenges due to symptoms like hot flashes, insomnia, or brain fog, which can negatively impact their work performance. Providing accommodations such as flexible hours or temperature control can help women continue to excel in their careers. The Fight for the Menopause Workplace Fairness Act: Modeled after the recently passed Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA), this new proposed menopause protective legislation seeks to ensure that menopause-related symptoms receive the same protections as pregnancy, helping to protect women's rights in the workplace.Take Action and Start the Conversation: Women need to advocate for themselves. This starts with awareness of their rights and having conversations with their employers about the accommodations they need to continue to optimally perform their jobs. Promoting Awareness and Change: As more women work longer and remain in their careers well into midlife, the need for understanding and accommodations becomes even more pressing. By advocating for change at both an individual and legislative level, women can ensure that their workplaces evolve to support them throughout all stages of life. For more insights on navigating workplace challenges during menopause and advocating for your rights, tune in to this impactful episode of The Positive Pause*.

Today we're going to try and unravel these often divisary issues in a balanced way; we're going to be discussing the importance of threat and safety to a child's state of mind as they develop; the power of the parent or carer's own unresolved issues to transmit to young people, creating symptoms in the child; the importance of going to the root of the problem rather than just treating symptoms; the role of escapism as an emotional avoidance strategy, and how digital platforms and device providers have taken advantage of that tendency, and the parenting strategies to guide this; and we're going to discuss the role of shame in us avoiding facing these issues. Fortunately, considering the nuanced and potentially triggering topic of the mental well being of the children we parent and teach, today's guest has just released the paper back version of his new book on exactly this topic, “How the world is making our children mad and what to do about it”. As a hugely experienced child psychotherapist and founder of the charity “Apart of Me” that supports children to transform their loss into compassion, he is perfectly placed to give us un update on this, and is filled with excellent stories and advice to help us face it. He is of course Louis Weinstock, a transpersonal psychotherapist and mindfulness specialist, who has worked with a wide range of sufferers from the criminal justice system, to drug addicts, to homeless people, to troubled teens and their parents.
