Last year, a loose collection of brave bloggers & podcasters attempted the impossible and covered bits & pieces of the much-maligned 1993 DC Comics x-over event, Bloodlines! This year, that same group, plus a few new friends, will shine a light on another DC event, Eclipso: The Darkness Within!Hard to believe, but it's been 25 years since the heroes of the DC Universe faced the Darkness Within, and on this episode, I'll be having a look at one chapter of the event which ran through DC's summer line of 1992 Annuals - L.E.G.I.O.N. Hello Emerald allies, and thanks for downloading another episode of Just One of the Guys: A Green Lantern podcast where every Friday I talk about a Green Lantern comic or two. And this time out I'm covering Green Lantern #112, the resolution of the Jade as Green Lantern storyline. Fatality has somehow made it back to Earth to try and complete her mission of killing off all the Green Lanterns, but Kyle has made it back just in time to make sure she doesn't succeed. We also ge the removal of Green Lantern status from Jenny, once again making sure that Kyle is the one and only Green Lantern from this time period. And in the second book, I'm doing what I probably should have done when these were coming out...I'm taking a look at the Green Lantern Annuals. Starting with Annual Number One...the "Eclipso: The Darkness Within" crossover... ... ... ... You know how annuals can kind of be a mixed bag? Well, here's a prime example. Eclipso, the main "antagonist" (?) in these books isn't satisfied with his power base, so he decides to try and possess various heroes of the DCU for whatever reason, beginning with Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern. This goal is achieved in the most roundabout of ways possible, which involves possessing a homeless guy, a hooker, Eugene from the Walking Dead, an exotic dancer, Guy Gardner and then Carol Ferris/Star Sapphire before acutally "eclipsoing" Hal. But not before one of the most awkward panels I've EVER seen in comics, involving what looks to be the aftermath of a disturbing sexual act performed on Carol Ferris. Seriously, how did this get past the Comics Code?!? So, unless you want to see the five seconds earlier picture of that scene, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and get to listening. Hopefully the next Annual wil be better... Wait, the next annual is BLOODLINES?!?
