JSA #58 / Hawkman #25 (2004)Apologies for the delay but here it is — the final chapter in our #JSApril stint as we cover the final two installments of the “Black Reign” story arc!First in JSA, we suffer a few unintentional casualties on the heel side, Doctor Fate gets trapped in suburbia and Brainwave Jr. Jr. Jr. has actual brain WORMS in his head and they're…friendly, sort of?Then in HAWKMAN, Shazam gets sniffing, Hawkman gets emotional, Green Lantern gets creative and Atom Smasher has a series of massive sulks as “Black Reign” comes to a conclusion. All this plus Jen and Shawn chat about Night One of WrestleMania and the Atom's preferred method of international transportation.*** PROPER COMIC BOOK DISCUSSION STARTS AT 00:10:05 ***Promos: #JSAPRIL (https://fireandwaterpodcast.com/podcast/jsapril/) / THE MONITOR TAPES (http://themonitortapes.com)Continue the conversation with Shawn and Jen on Twitter / Instagram / Facebook / Threads / Bluesky or email the show at worstcollectionever@gmail.comAlso, get hip to all of our episodes on YouTube in its own playlist! https://bit.ly/WorstCollectionEverYTDownload the podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and wherever you get your favorite shows. JSA #57 / Hawkman #24 (2004)It's a double dose of #JSApril this week as we double up the conversation on the next two installments of the “Black Reign” story arc!In JSA, the team makes its way to Kahndaq, having to use air travel as opposed to magic travel because Nabu's being REAL cranky these days. Along the way, Power Girl calls Hawkman an ass, Black Adam bifurcates thru the JSA transport and all of Northwind's friends, with their bird talons and supple chests, look to make mincemeat of the heroes.Over in HAWKMAN, Doctor Fate seemingly turns heel as Nabu mucks up the JSA on the offensive. Hawkman clangs his own son on the head with his mace, Brainwave probes Shazam's teenage thoughts and Hourman is gutted….literally! All this plus Jen and Shawn offer a correction regarding Billy Batson's age and discuss Jason Todd's failed pro wrestling career.*** PROPER COMIC BOOK DISCUSSION STARTS AT 00:09:55 ***Promos: #JSAPRIL (https://fireandwaterpodcast.com/podcast/jsapril/) / THE MONITOR TAPES (http://themonitortapes.com)Continue the conversation with Shawn and Jen on Twitter / Instagram / Facebook / Threads / Bluesky or email the show at worstcollectionever@gmail.comAlso, get hip to all of our episodes on YouTube in its own playlist! https://bit.ly/WorstCollectionEverYTDownload the podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and wherever you get your favorite shows. JSA #56 (2004)Welcome to #JSApril! Worst Collection Ever is proud to participate in this celebration of JSA content by delivering our wicked takes on Geoff Johns's “Black Reign” saga! This issue plays out more like the first act of a promsing action flick, with Black Adam recruiting a crew of disenchanted, mayhem-seeking folks to help him liberate his home country of Kahndaq. We got the assassin Nemesis, a tatted-up Eclipso, a freshly-mutated Northwind, a conflicted Atom Smasher and Chester Bennington of Linkin Park aka Brainwave aka Robert Englund from the V mini-series. The scene gets bloody and emotional and there are cooling brains all over the place. We also spend a bit of time parsing out Northwind's creation so, if you new to the podcast, put a fun movie on for the kids and then hide under a blanket while you listen to this. All this plus Jen and Shawn buy a bunch of cheap trades, new DC Absolute offerings and the Hawk Tuah Girl runs afoul of the Dark Knight![NOTE — we (or specifically Shawn) refers to Northwind a bunch as “Hawkwind.” Hawkwind was a band that Lemmy was in before Motörhead - we are aware of this. We will most likely screw this up again, so there you go]*** PROPER COMIC BOOK DISCUSSION STARTS AT 00:22:14 ***Promo: #JSAPRIL (https://fireandwaterpodcast.com/podcast/jsapril/)Continue the conversation with Shawn and Jen on Twitter / Instagram / Facebook / Threads / Bluesky or email the show at worstcollectionever@gmail.comAlso, get hip to all of our episodes on YouTube in its own playlist! https://bit.ly/WorstCollectionEverYTDownload the podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and wherever you get your favorite shows. The Watchtower is in pieces, Red Tornado's all screwed up and the rest of the Justice League is trapped in a purple jewel in the middle of the Sahara. And the worst thing is that Eclipso now has Batman's dark web password and wants Superman to use the Earth's satellites as a pickleball court. Here's the run down – Variants McFarlane Toys again for variant covers on Batman / Superman: World's Finest #33, Action comics #1076, Titans #17. Lots of pretty good variants this week, but my favorite is undoubtedly Catwoman #70 by Frank Cho, followed very closely by the Watchtower Variants from Jorge Fornes, Lucio Parrillo, and Danny Earls. Issues Batman & Robin Year One #2 – Really good. 100% Samnee art. The dialog is great and it's a really good story. 8.25/10 Batman Full Moon #2– Fantastic. Utterly fantastic. If anyone is telling you otherwise, well, the just aren't right. The art and story and dialog are all spot on in this book. 8.5/10 Dark Knights of Steel: Allwinter #5– Okay 5 issues in and I can officially say this without doubt. So far, Allwinter outshines the original story, and that original story was awesome… and… the art scheme. It sells it so much. Every sliver of the story is also being told in the art and the colors and if you aren't reading it, I mean this, you are truly missing out. .. 8.5/10 Jenny Sparks #4– I really don't know what I was expecting with this. At all. But it wasn't this. I didn't expect to like this. Here I am hating it. The art is really, really, really good. But that's NOT Jenny Sparks OR Captain Atom. Again, it's the art – 6.5/10 Wonder Woman #15 – Same as Jenny Sparks, but lower because this is canon, not Elseworlds. Great art. Awesome art. Really crappy story. 6/10 Milestone Universe-The Shadow Cabinet #1– So much in this issue! It really kicked this 4-issue mini off. There's a lot to the issue, and it's a good thing it has extra pages. I'm really looking forward to the next issue so we can find out more about what's going on, and what will happen with the Blood Syndicate and where are the rest of the team? Man, I love Milestone. 8.5/10. #Superman #Batman #WonderWoman #Titans #Catwoman #TheQuestion #AllAlongTheWatchtower #Milestone #DCAllIn #AllIn #Absolute #DCComics #comics #comicbooks --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thegeekmatrixcomics/support

Here's the run down – MultiVersus: Collision Detected #3 – “Rated by Dash” – 4/5. This issue is just crazy but it is good and I love the pictures. Jenny Sparks #3 – 4/10 – Evil Captain Atom kills the enti8re Justice League team. But also didn't. Or maybe he did? And Jenny smokes. Such. Great. Writing. All points given for the art. Batman: Full Moon #1 – 7.5/10 – An interesting story. Batman's no stranger to horror stories, but this one feels written a little different. I enjoy it, and Subic's art. However, Subic… stop signing interior pages. You look incredibly full of yourself when you do that. It's in the credits. That's the only place it needs to be. Dark Knights of Steel: Allwinter #4 – 8/10 – I really hope that DKOS continues after this, like a White Knight kind of universe. Please. So fun to read, such great stories. Such good art. Batman and Robin: Year One #1 – 8.25/10 – This is a great year one story without it being an origin story. It's not campy or with cheesy dialog. I's written well; the art works awesome. It's a great time. The Strange Case of Harleen and Harley – 9/10 – This was awesome. Really. Like an origin story for the development of the Harley Quinn side of Harleen Quinzel. And Poison Ivy. It was done really well and the art works great for it too. It's not a kid's book, unless kids should read the F bomb, which does show up once along with some other profanity later in the book. So… if this was a movie, it would be rated PG 13. This Is Our Land – A Blue Beetle Story – 9.5/10 – A VERY rare 9.5 from me because of how absolutely amazing this book is. There's really not another way to describe it. It's relevant, has real meaning, is impactful and it gives a cool bit of an origin story. And it's written so damn well that I couldn't peel my eyes off of it, and may even go back and read it again. Unbelievably good. I couldn't recommend it more. Harley Quinn in Paradise #1 – 7.75/10 - It's a silly webcomic about Harley shortly after breaking up with the Joker. She's pissed off a lot of criminals and Poison Ivy warns her to hide… so her idea to make everyone love her while staying safe is … get cast on a reality show looking for true love. Ooohhhh boy. This should be something. The art is good, and I like Harley's new look at the end of the issue. Nothing Butt Nightwing #1 – 7/10 – A webcomic about Nightwing going undercover as a model while dealing with… being dumped by Babs. For a webcomic, this was actually not too bad. I've seen far worse. It was enjoyable for what it was… but… if an issue is centered around Dick Grayson's butt, only Nicola Scott should be asked to draw it. Art wasn't bad though. #ActionComics #WorldsFinest #Catwoman #GreenLantern #WonderWoman #Titans #Nightwing #DCAllIn #AllIn #Absolute #ComicsAreForEveryone #ComicsAreGreat #MakeComicsGreatAgain #AbsolutePower #DCComics #comics #comicbooks #TheGeekMatrix #TGM #TheGeekMatrixPod --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thegeekmatrixcomics/support

We start the show off talking about all things geek, like every week – comics, books, wrestling, action figures and more... And throughout… we kind of get off topic. This week, Josh has willed more McFarlane DC figures into existence! (It's been like 2 years now without an error???) (00:00:00) The Geek Matrix reviews DC's Weekly Comics Releases This week, that's: (01:04:13) #AbsolutePowerSuperSon 1 (01:20:27) #WonderWoman 13 (01:29:35) #Superman 18 (01:48:20) #Catwoman 68 (02:05:00) New McFarlane Figures! (02:14:30) #BatmanSupermanWorldsFinest 31 Plus our Honorable Mentions covered each week by Josh! Here's the run down – Jenny Sparks #2 - I can't say anything else about this book except I hate it. Like, with a passion. And that's because King turned Captain Atom into an arrogant evil wannabe Dr Manhattan, quite literally he just wants to be a god… this is beyond stupid. Can barely even consider the art. King shits ALL OVER the characters he writes. He sucks and he knows it and great art can't save it. Nothing redeemable. 3/10. John Constantine, Hellblazer: Dead in America #9 - This is the grimiest magic-based noir that I've ever read and it's absolutely great. A while lot goes sideways, and Constantine is getting a bit closer… and… the art fits the book so well. And also? This is weird, but Arron Campbell drew a dress on Clarice that may be the prettiest piece of clothing that I have ever seen on a comic book character. 8.25/10 Dark Knights of Steel: Allwinter #3 - I didn't expect to go into this liking it more than the original. I'm not there quite yet, but I am getting damn close. And the occasional explosive use of color in this book makes it all even more gorgeous. 8/10 Batman - The Long Halloween - The Last Halloween #1 - Catwoman, Gilda, Two-Face. Calendar Man, Jim Gordon, Batman and Robin all pick up where the last installment left off. This was a really fun read for me. I thought it odd at first that the Long Halloween was being expanded upon, but now? Give me the next 9 issues. 7.75/10 Multiversus - Collision Detection #1 - The only thing that I knew to expect from this one is that it's a video game tie-in. What I didn't expect was it to be so fun for my 8-year-old to read. He loved it and gives it a 4/5 (he won't judge on 1-10 no matter how many times I ask). Joker The World - With an all star cast of writers, artists, colorists, and letterers, going in, you have to know that at least some of this has got to be good, right? Well, it's a whole bunch of non-connected Joker stories. Some art is great. Some is fantastic, some I'm not a fan of but it fits the story so very well. I don't quite understand it, normally, I wouldn't like this kind of thing. But Joker The World was really good. And there's a Joker the World Free Batman Day Special Edition that might still be at your Local Comic Shop if you'd like a preview to all of them. For the book? It gets 7.5/10 Batman Day 2024: Batman / Elmer Fudd Special #1 - This was a way better story than it deserved to be. Way better. I really enjoyed it. We didn't need the backup at all in this book, but it wasa fun quick read as well. I am very pleasantly surprised. 8/10 Batman - Elmer Fudd Special Noir Edition #1 - See above, but in black and white. There's also a whole bunch of facsimile editions - Crisis on infinite earths, Detective 27, variants and foils, etc. so go check those out as well. #DCAllIn #ComicsAreForEveryone #ComicsAreGreat #MakeComicsGreatAgain #AbsolutePower #DCComics #comics #comicbooks #GeekMatrix #TheGeekMatrix #TGM #GeekMatrixPod --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thegeekmatrixcomics/support

The Waverider used its' time travel drive this week as we went into the past of Jennie and Todd. We saw the events of last season from Todd's point of view and learned of the trauma that happend as they were pulled apart as kids. It seems Jennie getting the ring on their birthday set both off them off with Jennie embracing the light to become Jade and the darkness overtaking Todd making him Obsidian. Mister Bones, Nurse Love and the Helix Institute lured him to their supposed safe place to learn his powers. Last season's battle with Eclipso infected the Green Lantern ring with darkness from the Shadowlands. It is hurting both Jade and The Shade. The Shade knows Courtney can help Jade expell the darkness. But it seems like rescuing her brother is the only way. They discover that Mister Bones has been using light therapy to hold back the darnkess. But it is too late. Pat and The Shade are thrown into the Shadowlands. In Blue Valley, the JSA disabled the power and are removing all of the cameras. But it has us wondering is it really Mister Bones behind it all? Rick is addicted to being Hour Man already. Yolanda will not come clean to her mother and her mother kicks her out of the house. The team is divided and in real trouble.   Contact Information If you want to join in the discussion, you can submit feedback via email to TomorrowsLegendsPodcast@gmail.com.
