Hey everybody, Jeremiah is back, and he and I have two more issues to talk about! But, these two issues are a little bit of a downer. Not because they're bad, but because they're the swan song for Len Wein and Jim Aparo, unfortunately. So, not only do we cover these two issues, but we also lament the departure of these two giants! As usual, if you'd like to leave any feedback for the show, you can do so through email at Magazinesandmonsters@gmail.com or to me on Twitter @Billyd_licious or on the show's FB page (just search Mahazines and Monsters). Saga of the Swamp Thing #6 (1982)The SAGA OF THE SWAMP THING comes to an end as we finally make it to the Plague Ship, where Swampy encounters a frilly tentacle alien. It gets even wilder when a masquerade ball turns into a cyclops gathering at the stroke of midnight. This is a transitional book of sorts but lots to unpack such as Swamp Thing's traversing half of the Eastern coastline on foot in a matter of hours and the best way to attack someone with a physician's bag. Also, our back-up story sees Phantom Stranger confronts Death in his penthouse to question the accuracy of his scheduling of pretty blond ladies who trip in the street.*** PROPER COMIC BOOK DISCUSSION STARTS AT 00:15:44 ***All this plus recap the recent DISMEMBER THE ALAMO event and some fun horror films.Promo: 3RD DEGREE BYRNE (https://twotruefreaks.com/podcast/qt-series/3rd-degree-byrne/)Continue the conversation with Shawn and Jen on Twitter (X) @angryheroshawn and @JenStansfield and email the show at worstcollectionever@gmail.comAlso, get hip to all of our episodes on YouTube in its own playlist! https://bit.ly/WorstCollectionEverYTDownload the podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and wherever you get your favorite shows. Saga of the Swamp Thing #5 (1982)We keep rolling with our friend Swamp Thing as he takes on a bit of convalescence in a unaccredited hospital that stores a bunch of pink clones in the basement. It might very well be a sequel (or prequel) to BARBARIAN that Swampy has found himself wrapped up in. Regardless, it is a wild time with chokeslams, Swamp Thing back-body dropping security guards and an evil Captain Kangaroo running around. Also, our back-up story sees Phantom Stranger cosplaying as Phil Donahue (RIP) to defeat his nemesis Tannarak by turning him into an ornery baby. *** PROPER COMIC BOOK DISCUSSION STARTS AT 00:10:44 ***All this plus we rewatch BLOOD BEACH~! and it is as great as we remembered.Promo: CHECKERED PAST (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/checkered-past/id1350233450)Continue the conversation with Shawn and Jen on Twitter (X) @angryheroshawn and @JenStansfield and email the show at worstcollectionever@gmail.comAlso, get hip to all of our episodes on YouTube in its own playlist! https://bit.ly/WorstCollectionEverYTDownload the podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and wherever you get your favorite shows. Saga of the Swamp Thing #4 (1982)Happy Halloween Month! In honor of the spooky season, we start a run on some pre-Alan Moore SWAMP THING because nothing is more frightening than a moist, musty man covered in moss. Here, Swamp Thing finds himself in the back of a watermelon transport and is dumped in the path of a child-murdering demon. We also get a large helping of media accountability, DEATH TO SMOOCHY comparisons and swamp monster flexibility. As a bonus, there's even a backup tale with Phantom Stranger posting for lucha libre bumps in a hospital rampant with occult-fueled surgeons.*** PROPER COMIC BOOK DISCUSSION STARTS AT 00:11:54 ***Also, be here for some chatter on recent horror cinema!Promo: THE MONSTERS THAT MADE US (https://www.cageclub.me/monsters/)Continue the conversation with Shawn and Jen on Twitter (X) @angryheroshawn and @JenStansfield and email the show at worstcollectionever@gmail.comAlso, get hip to all of our episodes on YouTube in its own playlist! https://bit.ly/WorstCollectionEverYTDownload the podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and wherever you get your favorite shows. This week, it's time to dig into one of RJ's all time favorites: MADAME XANADU by Matt Wagner & Amy Reeder! This mystical montage of mysterium and machinations brings us on a journey through time, with the Phantom Stranger standing at Madame Xanadu's opposition! The hands of fate are constantly trying to shape destiny with the help of the Stranger, while Xanadu is constantly struggling with the burden of foresight and how to truly do the greatest amount of good. Shadowpact #1 (2006)Shadowpact is a group of paranormal-flavored heroes investigating paranormal-flavored villains and calamities. I was going to make a sly comment and say they are “Justice League Dark with a recovering alcoholic monkey” but Detective Chimp kicks it both groups so I'll just go kick rocks.Join us as a dome of blood envelopes a Wyoming town like a Stephen King novel. Phantom Stranger proves to be useless as do Superman and Green Lantern but that's ok because Ragman and friends are here. It's up to them to take down the Pentacle, a group consisting of an Italian witch, David Lynch, Sister Christian and some of the worst villain names we've seen in a long while.*** PROPER COMIC BOOK DISCUSSION STARTS AT 00:12:49 ***All this plus Jen's thoughts on the Bruce Timm Batman series BATMAN: CAPED CRUSADER on Amazon and, hell, some WWE SummerSlam conversation as well.Promo: PEACE BOUND AND DOWN - A WONDER WOMAN PODCASTContinue the conversation with Shawn and Jen on Twitter (X) @angryheroshawn and @JenStansfield and email the show at worstcollectionever@gmail.comAlso, get hip to all of our episodes on YouTube in its own playlist! https://bit.ly/WorstCollectionEverYTDownload the podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and wherever you get your favorite shows. Hey there, forbidden followers! Jeremiah is back, and he's brought along a creepy anthology horror book from DC comics for the spooky season! It's been a while since he and I have had the chance to record, but never fear, we'll get back to more Phantom Stranger after Halloween, but for now, we get to sit down and speak on two scary tales from this lesser-known title! Yes, that's right, two awesome stories in this book, one is your more traditional horror story, and the other has a bit of a humorous tone to it. So, get ready to dive in and splash into a pool of blood...or red Kool-Aid. Yeah, that's right, it's just regular old drink, isn't it? As usual, if you'd like to leave any feedback for the show, you can do so through email at Magazinesandmonsters@gmail.com or to me on Twitter @Billyd_licious or on the show's FB page (I'm also on BlueSky now @docstrange.Bsky.social). Hey everybody! It's week three of my Halloween Mario Bava coverage! My buddy Jeremiah is here with me (we typically cover Phantom Stranger, and other wacky oddities), and we dive headfirst into the madness of this porto-slasher film! It's a bit of an odd one in my humble opinion, but also very fascinating. An interesting cast that we talk about as well as the differences between Bava's previous films and this one. This was a first watch for JJG, and I love it when a guest is coming in raw, whether it's a movie or a comic. So, grab your plane ticket, and lets head to Eastern Europe! As usual, if you'd like to ;eave any feedback for the show, you can do so through email at Magazinesandmonsters@gmail.com or to me on Twitter @Billyd_licious or on the show's FB page (I'm also on BlueSky @docstrange@bsky.social)! In this week's Small Talk mini-episode of Talking Strange, listener Kim shares a tale from when she was a young student flying to Chicago for a job interview. After several delays, and a prediction by her mother about who her daughter would sit next to on the plane, Kim boards the flight, and meet a handsome but peculiar stranger who seems to know things about her — and before they happen. They share drinks, and when they land, Kim's plans take a turn. Who is the Phantom Stranger, and how will her interaction impact Kim's life? _______________________________________________________________ Talking Strange Paranormal Podcast with Aaron Sagers is a weekly paranormal pop culture show featuring celebrity and author interviews, with a weekly "Small Talk" mini-sode with reader submitted letters and spooky tales. Jace chats with Dan Didio about his recently released YA novel Hide or Seek. After steering the DC line for nearly two decades, we can confidently say that Dan knows superhero stories. During his time at DC Dan wrote a number of series including Phantom Stranger, OMAC and Sideways and now he is bringing that writing talent to the YA space with an engrossing novel about a young man who discovers his father is the world's most famous hero. Unfortunately, he finds out because his father has been killed and he is forced to go into hiding with his mother. From that set-up unfolds an action-packed and emotional story that will appeal to readers of all ages. You can find out more about Dan's debut novel below. The guys also touch on Dan's current role at Frank Miller Presents and Dan gives a quick rundown of the titles coming out from the legendary creator's publishing company. PRESS RELEASE: From the Publisher of Frank Miller Presents Comics and accomplished DC Comics writer, Dan DiDio, comes his first young adult science fiction and fantasy novel, Hide or Seek: The Superpower Protection Program. Nick Pappas is the unknowing son of the god-like hero Odysseus and when his father is murdered on national television, Nick's whole world is turned upside. He's taken into the witness protection program, relocated to a small town called Crucible, populated not only with families of of his father's greatest super-villains. What's worse instead of a safe haven, Nick discovers Crucible is a prison designed to contain and train the powers he's developing. Forced to remain in Crucible by the shadowy creatures called Mirror Men, who guard its border, Nick attempts to discover the extent of his powers and figure out who to trust amongst the eclectic band of kids he meets in town. Steeped in high stakes mystery, inventive superpowers, and friendship, Hide or Seek, captures the tone and excitement of great young adult series, like Percy Jackson and is perfect for dedicated comic fans and lovers of young adult science fiction and fantasy alike. In 2010, DiDio was named Publisher of DC Entertainment alongside Jim Lee. As Publisher, he directed and oversaw DC Entertainment's entire publishing business. Currently, Dan is partnered with comic and media legend, Frank Miller, and together they started their own publishing line, Frank Miller Presents.
Hey everybody, my pal Jeremiah is back, and it's time for The Phantom Stranger to materialize! Rather than our coverage being a long, drawn out affair, I'm going to try and package two episodes together once evert 4-6 weeks. That will get more Phantom Stranger contents into your ears faster! We cover a bit more of the reprint material in this episode, but there is some good stuff here, you just have to give it a chance. Of course, there's one kooky story that is very Golden Age, but again, it has its moments of fun as well. So, join us as we walk in the spirit world with the Phantom Stranger! As usual, you can leave any feedback for the show through email at Magazinesandmonsters@gmail.com or to me on Twitter @Billyd_licious or on the show's FB or Tumblr pages (just search Magazines and Monsters). Hey all you supernatural strangers! My pal Jeremiah is back, and we're beginning a new series of recordings, starring the Phantom Stranger! And of course, his annoying antithesis, Dr. 13! We check out this awesome book that has a few new pages, and reprints two stories from the 1950s series. The plan is that we'll cover a couple of issues from the Bronze Age series hopefully until its conclusion. Along the way definitely check in on my other show, The Brave and the Bob! as JJG and I will also be covering the Stranger's exploits in The Brave and the Bold, alongside the caped crusader! As usual, you can send any feedback for the show through email at Magazinesandmonsters@gmail.com or to me on Twitter @Billyd_licious or on the show's FB or Tumblr pages by searching Magazines and Monsters.
