It's Casual Friday on The Majority Report On today's program: Donald Trump gave a primetime speech to the nation to complain and spread more lies about the 2020 election. Clearly the plan is to undermine voters' confidence in elections in order to set up some shady hijinks in the coming midterms and beyond. Jamaal Bowman, former middle school principal and former U.S. representative, joins to recap the week. Topics include his forthcoming memoir, midterm elections, AIPAC, ICE, Nolan Wells and more. Here is a link to preorder Jamaal's book. In The Fun Half: Markwayne Mullin holds a press conference to suck up to Trump and cry about networks not broadcasting the president's election denial. Stephen Miller tries to fearmonger about left-wing "terrorism" at an event called the Resurgence of Political Violence. Jesse Watters jokes about troops triple-dipping on testosterone and acting like wild animals and advises the women on base to be careful. Later in the same show, Jessica Tarlov mentions Drop Site News which gives Watters PTSD from Ryan Grim knocked him out at press dinner. All that and more. A World Cup semi-final where one footballing giant sought redemption… and another nation chased a dream no one thought possible. It's 1994, and four years after the heartbreak of Italia '90, Italy are back in the last four with a chance to put their demons to rest. Standing in their way is the tournament's great surprise package — a Bulgaria side that has risen from the political and economic turmoil following the collapse of communism to become one of the most exciting teams in world football. In this episode, we revisit Bulgaria vs Italy, a semi-final that pitted Roberto Baggio's irresistible brilliance against Hristo Stoichkov's extraordinary leadership of a golden generation. We break down how Italy, driven by the genius of Baggio, were determined to erase the pain of their defeat to Argentina four years earlier, while Bulgaria arrived fearless after stunning reigning champions Germany and announcing themselves on the world stage. We relive Baggio's clinical first-half double, Stoichkov's coolly taken penalty that gave Bulgaria hope, and a tense second half where Italy clung on to book a first World Cup Final since 1982.We also explore how Bulgaria's remarkable journey inspired a nation emerging from decades behind the Iron Curtain, why Stoichkov became a national hero, and whether this was the moment Italy finally laid the ghosts of 1990 to rest before one last date with destiny in Pasadena. This is The Semi-Final Countdown — a podcast dedicated to the great finals (and the occasional semi-final) from the annals of football. Each week your hosts, Adam and Lewis, dive deep — with a generous helping of nostalgia and humour — into one of football's greatest showpieces.

The Battle of the Little Bighorn didn't end when George Armstrong Custer fell. Four miles to the south, the surviving seven companies of the 7th Cavalry, under Major Marcus Reno and Captain Frederick Benteen, were pinned down on a barren hilltop and fighting for their lives. A battle that would result in two days of thirst, sniping, desperate charges, and over two dozen Medals of Honor. We'll also discuss Dr. Henry Porter's makeshift field hospital, the rescue by General Terry and Colonel Gibbon, and the burial of the dead. Then we dig into the reckoning: the Reno Court of Inquiry, Frederick Whittaker's crusade to blame Custer's subordinates, the surrenders of Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull, and the 1980 Supreme Court case and the billion-dollar settlement the Lakota still refuse to this day.   Wild West Quiz - https://wildwestquiz.com/   Check out the website! https://www.wildwestextra.com/   Email me! https://www.wildwestextra.com/contact/   Free Newsletter! https://wildwestjosh.substack.com/   Buy Me A Coffee!  https://buymeacoffee.com/wildwest   Join Patreon for ad-free bonus content! https://www.patreon.com/wildwestextra   Merch! https://wildwestextramerch.com/   Custer's Last Stand! https://www.wildwestextra.com/custers-last-stand-hero-or-fool/ Learn more about your ad choices. In 1845, a feudal land system that had survived the American Revolution finally met its match in the hills above Andes, New York — and the clash left a county undersheriff dead and hundreds of farmers under arrest. The Anti-Rent War was a massive, organized uprising that had been building since the late 1830s and swept across upstate New York — yet it remains largely unknown outside this region.Victoria Kupchinetsky and Misha Gutkin are Russian-born journalists who stumbled upon the story at an Andes community day parade — and couldn't let it go. The result is Calico Rebellion, a documentary that centers the voices of local descendants, historians, and storytellers to bring this "final chapter of the American Revolution" back to life.We talk about the patroon system and its perpetual leases that kept tenant farmers from ever owning the land they cleared; the Calico Indians, disguised farmers who donned homemade masks and calico dresses to resist rent collectors; the dinner horns repurposed as an alarm network; and the fatal confrontation on Dingle Hill that set off a chain of trials, pardons, and ultimately, legislative reform.Victoria and Misha also reflect on what it meant — as immigrants from the Soviet Union — to dig into this forgotten corner of American democracy, and what the Anti-Rent War says about the ongoing work of keeping a democratic system alive.Visit calicorebellion.com for Calico Rebellion screenings, events, and info.

The Battle of the Little Bighorn is one of the most famous and most misunderstood events in American history. On June 25, 1876, Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer and roughly 210 men of his immediate command were wiped out along a ridge in southeastern Montana by a massive village of Lakota, Northern Cheyenne, and Arapaho fighting under Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse. But how did Custer really die? Did he go down fighting, was he killed trying to reach the river, or did he take his own life to avoid capture? And did the warriors who killed him even know who he was? Also discussed is the entire chain of events that led to Custer's Last Stand, from the Lakota claim to the sacred Black Hills and the broken Fort Laramie treaties, through Sand Creek, Red Cloud's War, and the Black Hills gold rush, to the three-column campaign of 1876.   00:00:00 Introduction

For the twenty-fourth installment of “50 Weeks That Shaped America” we go to the Montana Territory in the spring of 1876. General George Custer (and his cinnamon-scented hair) have been sent to the area to defeat the Plains Indians. But at the Battle Of Little Bighorn (aka Custer's Last Stand) things would go awry. Over two episodes, we discuss the post-Civil-War Westward expansion; how Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse mounted an Indian defense; and how a bloody defeat was spun into a military legend. Once overshadowed by the myth of “Custer's Last Stand”, Native Americans have successfully reclaimed the narrative of the Battle of Greasy Grass. 150 years after the defeat of Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer's 7th U.S. Cavalry, northern Plains tribes plan numerous events over multiple days to commemorate the historical milestone and to explore the ways the unexpected victory by a coalition of tribes continues to reverberate today. The sesquicentennial is less about celebrating past military dominance and more about a unified, multi-tribal declaration that, despite a century and a half of forced displacement, Indigenous cultures and identities remain vibrantly alive. GUESTS Tom Eagle Staff (Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe), Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe planning coordinator for the 150th Anniversary of Battle of Little Bighorn Dave West (Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe), director of the Cheyenne River Lakota Cultural Center Dion Killsback (Northern Cheyenne), Northern Cheyenne Tribe's camp coordinator for the 150th Anniversary of Little Bighorn and an attorney

Today, a look at markets testing the lows again yesterday, but trying to put in a rally ahead of a huge market event tomorrow that could define where this market heads next in what could prove an either-or moment. Elsewhere, interesting market reaction to Oracle's earnings report after the close, and super-critical support levels have come into play for the gold price, which faces its own either-or moment technically and thematically as the USD remains strong. Lots more on macro and FX and more in today's pod, which is hosted by Saxo Global Head of Macro Strategy John J. Hardy. Links In "The abundance illusion" noted oil industry analyst Jeff Currie notes the risks the oil market (and the wider global economy) faces this summer as seasonal demand rises inexorably while oil has yet to begin meaningfully flowing through the strait of Hormuz again. Also, he notes China's "New Joule Order" which has its own tremendous implications as the country puts its energy system resilience on display. HT to FTAlphaville for another great link today, this one to a Kardamow substack article that discusses the same concerns Currie discusses in the above link, with some more data specifics. An FT Article looks at US attempts to piece together a "dark transit" system for oil tankers to transit the Hormuz Strait via a narrow and risk shipping lane that hugs the Omani coast. Stratechery.com has a much more positive take on Apple's AI strategy with Siri than the market's very negative assessment in recent days, in a piece it calls The iPhone's Last Stand. This year's Microsoft Build conference is seeing the company's Project Solara announcement, the company's attempt to envision a new operating system and network of new devices, among other things, aimed at addressing the transition to the agentic AI era. The Verge discusses this as well as Microsoft's broader AI strategy. About twice per week (in normal times, hopefully soon to resume), you will find links discussed on the podcast and a chart-of-the-day over at the John J. Hardy substack. Seth Gruber, the CEO of White Rose Resistance, joins Allie to explain why America is in a “Last Stand” moment. Gruber pinpoints 1973 as the decline of American civilization, citing Roe v. Wade, distribution of pornography, and the tail end of the sexual revolution as the beginning of the end of the American republic. Seth also gives both historical and biblical examples of how people are enslaved by lust while outlining the dangers of unbridled licentiousness. He exposes that the abortion industry is only killing half as many unborn children as the IVF industry.
