The Muscogee Nation will assume some law enforcement duties in the city of Tulsa, Okla., when it comes to tribal citizens. The development over jurisdiction ends a federal lawsuit filed by the Muscogee Nation in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark McGirt decision in 2020. The Cherokee and Osage Nations also potentially have jurisdiction claims in Tulsa and other cities. Local law enforcement officials and Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt oppose the agreement, saying it creates a two-tiered system of justice. We'll find out what the new agreement solves and what it leaves unanswered. Also, tribes connected to Florida are speaking out against the Trump administration's fast track plans to establish a detention center for immigration actions near the Florida Everglades. Miccosukee and Seminole tribal officials and citizens say the center, dubbed the “Alligator Alcatraz,” infringes on land that is their “cultural, spiritual and historical identity.” GUESTS Betty Osceola (Miccosukee), environmental educator State Rep. Scott Fetgatter (Choctaw/R-OK 16) Robert Miller (Eastern Shawnee), law professor at Arizona State University and tribal judge Jason Salsman, press secretary for the Muscogee (Creek) Nation

According to reports, Kansas has extended the STAR bonds that could be used by the Royals and Chiefs for new facilities.  Because of the way it was originally written, they could not extend it for a short time so they had to extend it for a full year.  What an embarrassment.    A columnist pens a perfect piece on why Sportsradio has declined in popularity in America, I'm sure you know I have some thoughts on this.    White boy Cooper Flagg, from Duke, is the top pick in the NBA Draft.  Will the NBA treat this superstar like they treat Caitlyn Clark in the WNBA?  He's playing in Dallas, no less.  These leagues have a choice to make.  Stick with all their traditional liberal hate and bias or embrace new faces for their league that make them uncomfortable.    Legendary coach Steve Spurrier was asked about Texas qb Arch Manning as the favorite for the Heisman this year and responded asking if he's so great, why didn't Texas do with Manning what K-State has done with Avery Johnson, who is 6 months younger.    In DC, the Joe Biden autopen scandal gets worse, the NY Mayor's race cancels a first date for a couple that exploded on social media and Alligator Alcatraz construction begins in the Florida Everglades.

Send us a textWhen Navy veteran Evan Graver's motorcycle collided with a semi-truck in 2001, his life changed forever. The accident left him a T10 paraplegic, abruptly ending his military career just months before 9/11 and forcing him to rebuild his identity from the ground up. Yet two decades later, Evan has transformed this devastating injury into a launchpad for an extraordinary life of purpose and service. In this raw, honest conversation, Evan takes us through his journey from enlistment in 1997 to his current role as a prolific thriller author with 24 published books. He recounts the darkest moments of his recovery with surprising humor – from his memorable five-day odyssey to reach the Cleveland VA ("hospital purgatory") to the pivotal moment when he found himself on his bedroom floor, unable to get back into bed. These seemingly small victories became the building blocks of his remarkable resilience. What makes Evan's story so powerful isn't just his personal triumph, but how he's channeled his experiences into helping fellow veterans. As a board member for two impactful nonprofits – Dive for Vets and Fishing with America's Finest – he helps disabled veterans discover healing through underwater adventures and fishing expeditions in the Florida Everglades. These organizations embody what Evan calls the essential elements of recovery: "purpose, belonging, and connection."The conversation also explores Evan's writing process, his supportive marriage to Becky (whom he's known since before birth), and the unexpected ways his injury prepared him to embrace life's challenges. Now exactly half his life has been spent in a wheelchair – 24 years walking, 24 years rolling – giving him a unique perspective on adaptation and finding joy regardless of circumstances.Whether you're a veteran seeking inspiration, someone facing your own life-changing challenge, or simply looking for an uplifting story of human resilience, Evan's journey demonstrates how tragedy can become transformation when viewed through the lens of possibility rather than limitation. Five people. Five remote regions. Five encounters that leave more questions than answers. In this chilling episode, we dive deep into the raw, first-person accounts of individuals who came face-to-face with something impossible—and survived to tell the story. From a veteran park ranger in Olympic National Park who locked eyes with a towering, silent figure by a remote creek, to a hiker in northern Minnesota who stumbled across an eerie structure and felt something watching from just beyond the trees… these aren't blurry photos or secondhand stories. These are firsthand moments where fear met something real in the woods. We'll take you through the Blue Ridge Mountains with a seasoned deputy who followed the trail of a missing hunter and found only silence—and massive, barefoot tracks. Then we head into the dense, oppressive swamps of the Florida Everglades, where a wildlife officer encounters stacked stones, peeled trees, and heavy footfalls around his tent. But the episode ends with a story that still gives us chills. An experienced solo hiker heads into the Cascade Mountains for what should've been a quiet weekend off the grid. By the third day, the forest falls silent. Claw marks too high for any known animal, giant human-like prints, and a primitive shelter lead to a direct encounter with an eight-foot-tall creature communicating through knocks and strange calls. What follows is a relentless, three-day pursuit—an intelligent, calculated display by multiple creatures working together in the deep woods. And though they had every opportunity to take him, they didn't. Instead, they left a message: his lost gear, neatly displayed where he couldn't miss it. A warning. Or maybe… a test. This episode isn't about belief. It's about the people who went into the woods and came back changed. Manny Puig is a renowned wildlife expert, animal handler, and television personality, best known for his appearances on the hit TV shows Jackass and Wildboyz. With a deep passion for wildlife and a fearless approach to working with dangerous animals, Manny became a fan favorite on these unconventional, often outrageous, programs. His expertise in handling animals such as alligators, snakes, and crocodiles earned him recognition in the world of animal handling and made him a standout character in the Jackass universe. In addition to his work on these shows, Manny also starred in his own TV series. He had a show on the Outdoor Channel called Savage Wild, where he showcased his skills and knowledge in dealing with the world's most dangerous animals. Later, he became a central figure in Gator Boys, a popular series on Animal Planet that focused on capturing and rescuing alligators, especially in the Florida Everglades. In both shows, Manny's calm demeanor and expertise with reptiles and other wild creatures shone through, making him a trusted figure in the world of wildlife conservation and animal rescue. Manny's career as a wildlife expert extends beyond television. He has spent years studying and working with exotic animals, including sharks, venomous reptiles, and large carnivores. His commitment to conservation and animal welfare is evident in his efforts to educate the public about these often misunderstood creatures, despite the more chaotic nature of his on-screen appearances. Puig's fearlessness and devotion to wildlife have solidified him as a memorable figure in both the reality TV and wildlife communities. We hope you enjoy Manny's story as much as we did. He is truly one of the most remarkable humans we've had the privilege of interviewing on our podcast. Manny's upbringing is nothing short of extraordinary, and his journey could easily fill an entire podcast on its own. Raised in Cuba, his childhood was marked by hardship, including the trauma of his mother being imprisoned and his father's tragic murder. Despite these unimaginable challenges, Manny's resilience and passion for wildlife propelled him to become the incredible person he is today. We hope his story inspires you to feel a deep sense of gratitude for your own journey. Thank you again for joining us, Manny. Your story is one that will stay with us for a long time.

Current monitoring techniques depend on visual surveys by scientists, and this is far from an exact science because reptiles — particularly snakes — are extremely elusive. A new technique being developed by scientists at University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) can identify DNA traces of Burmese pythons — as well as northern African pythons, boa constrictors, and rainbow boas — weeks after they have left an area using soil or water samples.

Listen in as Daniel shares some research, busts croc-related myths, and Steve probably gets a little too excited about how crocs deal with salt water. Bill doesn't have much to say, but he's there, too. Enjoy! This episode was recorded on January 7, 2025 on the Bear Lake Trail in Everglades National Park. The last bit where the guys find the croc was also recorded in the Park, at the Flamingo Marina.Episode Notes and LinksAs promised during the episode, Steve is looking into how crocs process and excrete excess salt. As soon as he gets to the bottom of it, we'll share it here.In the meantime, here's what Bill found when he asked DeepSeek: Crocodiles, like many other marine and estuarine reptiles, have specialized salt glands to help them excrete excess salt from their bodies. These glands, known as salt glands or lingual glands (located on their tongues), actively transport salt ions (primarily sodium and chloride) from their bloodstream into the gland ducts. The salt is then excreted as a concentrated saline solution, which is expelled from the body.Crocodiles do not chemically change the salt (sodium chloride) into something else. Instead, they filter and concentrate it, allowing them to maintain proper electrolyte balance in their bodies, especially when living in saltwater environments. This process is crucial for osmoregulation, as it prevents dehydration and helps them survive in both freshwater and saltwater habitats. In summary, crocodiles excrete salt in its original form (sodium chloride) but in a highly concentrated solution, rather than transforming it into a different substance.Sponsors and Ways to Support UsGumleaf Boots, USA (free shipping for patrons)Thank you to Always Wandering Art (Website and Etsy Shop) for providing the artwork for many of our episodes.Support us on Patreon.Check out the Field Guides merch at our Teespring store. Florida is home to more than 500 nonnative species, more than 50 of which are reptiles.

Those lovable weirdos Timothy Kazda and Chris Koenig have jump started the way-back machine and head back in time to 1960s Florida to seek out a drive-in presenting a double-feature of cheesy horror and thrills from cult director William Grefe! So sit back, grab your favorite popcorn, and make sure the backseat is vacant so you and your special gal have plenty of space for some "quality time" as the hosts talk about "Sting of Death" (1965), which is the one-and-only sci-fi/horror feature to introduce a human jellyfish monster, and then it's "Death Curse of Tartu" (1966) in which a small group of people are threatened by a dead witch doctor that kills by transforming into animals or reptiles! And both are filmed on location in the Florida Everglades!!! So what more could you want, fans??? And Nate from 'Kids Corner' does the unthinkable: he reviews the John Carpenter horror classic "Halloween" (1978). My special guest is author and UFO researcher Preston Dennett, who is here to discuss one of the most astonishing UFO cases I've ever heard. Get his book Symmetry: A True UFO Adventure on Amazon today. In January 1973, fourteen-year-old Dolly Safran gazed out the window of her home near the Florida Everglades. Without warning, a UFO dropped from the sky and hovered in her backyard. To her shock, Dolly could see thin, gray-skinned figures with large dark eyes staring back at her. Frightened, she dived under her bed to hide. At that moment, her bedroom filled with a blazing blue light. The next thing she knew, morning had arrived. She was lying on the floor wearing somebody else's pajamas. She had been taken, again. This was not her first episode of missing time. It had happened many times before. Only this time, something different happened. Dolly remembered. In fact, she remembered everything. Over the next few days, Dolly recalled being taken onboard the craft, where she was examined by gray ETs. She then had a long conversation with them, was given a tour of the craft, and was told she would soon be contacted again. Only a few days later, the ETs returned and took her onboard again. Dolly had no fear as she spoke with the grays, who reminded her that she had been contacted many times before. She was asked if she would like to work with them and learn from them, and what she would like to learn? Amazed by the opportunity, Dolly chose to learn how to pilot the craft. The ETs agreed. So began Dolly's lifelong experiences with the extraterrestrials. She recalled all of her earlier childhood experiences and finally understood what had been happening to her. She remembered being taken to another planet where she and other children were taught by the grays about a wide variety of subjects: science, history, philosophy, spirituality and more. More encounters followed. Soon her lessons focused on how to pilot the craft, and before long, she was placed in the pilot seat allowed to fly the UFO herself. As Dolly grew into adulthood, her relationship with the grays deepened. She was visited on a weekly basis, more than a hundred times each year. Sometimes she was taken to learn on other planets, other times she was taken onboard massive motherships. She soon met a wide variety of ET types. She was told that Earth is in a critical stage of its evolution and that humanity was on the verge of world-shaking events that would cause sweeping changes across the planet. Dolly's mission was to work with the grays to assist humanity and help everyone survive the coming changes. This book is the true story of Dolly's lifelong adventures with the grays. Unlike the vast majority of UFO contactees, Dolly has no fear of her encounters, and is able to remember them in their entirety. She is what UFO researchers call a conscious contactee. She does not need hypnosis to recall her encounters. She lives them in real-time, and she remembers all of it. For most of her life, Dolly has kept her encounters a complete secret. But now, she has agreed to come forward and tell the world the truth about the UFO presence on our planet. ETs are not abducting people against their will. They are not here to hurt anyone or take over our planet. The truth is, they are here to help, to heal, to guide and enlighten. They are here, Dolly says, to ensure that everyone survives the many challenges facing humanity today. Written by veteran UFO researcher Preston Dennett, and told largely in the witness's own words, Dolly's story will change the way you think about extraterrestrials and their agenda on our planet. Says Preston Dennett: “Dolly's story is the single most extensive account of ET contact I have ever investigated or even read about.” This book is not only a gripping true-life adventure story, it answers many of the questions surrounding the UFO phenomenon. Why are they here? Where do they come from? What is the alien agenda on our planet? Fully illustrated with eyewitness drawings and UFO photographs, “Symmetry: A True UFO Adventure,” contains a profound message to all humanity directly from the ETs. It's super easy to access our archives! Here's how: iPhone Users:Access Mysterious Radio from Apple Podcasts and become a subscriber there, or if you want access to even more exclusive content, join us on Patreon. Android Users:Enjoy over 800 exclusive member-only posts to include ad-free episodes, case files, and more when you join us on Patreon.  Please copy and Paste our link in a text message to all your family members and friends! Just before midnight on December 29, 1972, Eastern Air Lines Flight 401, traveling from New York to Miami, crashed into the Florida Everglades, killing nearly two thirds of the passengers on board. Crashing into the swamp softened the landing and likely saved dozens, but the remote location made rescue efforts complicated and required a cooperative effort between first responders and local civilians. The crash came at a difficult time for the airline industry, following closely on a number of several high-profile hijackings and examples of equipment malfunctions that negatively affected ticket sales. This only got worse when the investigation into Flight 401 was concluded and the cause of the crash was determined to be operator error when the flight crew became distracted and unaware that the autopilot had switched itself off.In the months and years that followed, several Eastern Air employees and survivors of Flight 401 began reporting sightings of the ghosts of crew members and passengers who died in the crash. Although Eastern Air went out of their way to deny any sightings, the stories spread and became a part of Florida folklore as the subject of books, television films, and even a public spectacle as part of Ed and Lorraine Warren's Occult Museum in Connecticut.Thank you to the glorious David White, of Bring Me the Axe podcast, for research assistance :)References:Aguila, Grethel. 2022.
