Jamal Edwards, the founder of the media platform SBTV, which helped to launch grime and a new wave of artists to a global audience, died on Sunday morning at the age of 31. Jamal is someone who I knew through my time spent in the music industry and saw as a real inspirational character. So it hit me really hard to hear that he had passed away at such a tender age. Edwards was also a director, novelist, DJ, entrepreneur, and designer, and he received an MBE for his work in music in 2014, when he was only 24 years old. Some of the world's most successful performers – including Ed Sheeran, Dave, and Jessie J, Skepta to name a few - began their careers on SBTV, Edwards' platform, which started as a YouTube channel, before being signed to major labels. Edwards began SBTV "on a £20 phone" while still in high school and turned it into a renowned online youth broadcaster, according to Edwards. His YouTube channel, which he started in 2006, now has 1.2 million subscribers and nearly 1 billion views. Stormzy, Rita Ora, Krept & Konan, Bugzy Malone, and others were among the musicians featured on the channel, which was called after Edwards' rap moniker SmokeyBarz. In a 2017 interview with the Guardian, Edwards said, "I always looked at grime like the punk movement, in terms of lyrics and defiant attitude." SBTV's F64 – a fresh 64 bars of new and unique lyrics – was a signature format that featured everyone from renowned artists like Wiley to novices and up-and-comers. Edwards grew raised in Acton, west London, and was born in Luton in 1990. To support himself while developing SBTV, he earned a BTec diploma in media moving image from Ealing College and worked at retail chain Topman. When he became wealthy, Edwards invested heavily in philanthropy, especially mental health and youth centre support. He sought to break down stigmas around men's mental health by speaking openly about his personal anxieties, and in 2021 he initiated an initiative to renovate and reopen youth centres. People from the music industry, politics, athletics, and other fields paid tribute to Edwards on social media. Edwards also served as an ambassador for the Prince of Wales's charitable organisation, the Prince's Trust.

This week we are talking about Color Theory with Blake Rudis from F64 academy. In this conversation we talk about the importance color grading has on the mood and feeling of an image, we also giggle and laugh pretty much non stop (sorry about that). Either way i think there are some great nuggets in this episode. Blake Rudis can be found at both www.f64academy.com and www.f64elite.com .
I have the freedom to give visibility to those who are under-represented or marginalized, from children's rights to women's abuse, queer sub-culture, and identity to the aftermath of conflicts in war zones and hoping to change lives along the way. My mission is to use my craft via portrait and landscape photography to explore how departure, absence and loss impact one’s understanding of home and identity; how struggle affects people’s sense of self and place. Hi, my name is Aydin Matlabi! Arriving to Montreal from Iran with Italian passports at only 5 years old, Aydin moved from refugee camp to refugee camp. Violence, street gangs and injustice was part of his DNA. That is until he met a John Abbott professor who gave him a camera to shoot life from his vantage point. This professor saw more than just violence… and a year later hired him to photograph the gay pride parade. 16+ years later and Aydin is still documenting the Montreal gay pride events. Aydin’s mission gave birth to Foundation 64 (F64), he noticed that the stories being told from the main media were never utilized by the individuals being covered. The subject was used to tell and sell stories, with no gain for the actual victims, or institutions who were making a difference. The stories and visuals were edited, narrated and created for a western audience. Any or all financial gain never reached the people or individuals in need. What Aydin started doing was creating visuals in relation to the victims, who willingly participated as partners. Thereafter, the visuals were utilized for the specific NGO or organization to raise more money, via marketing, media sales and visibility. Therefore, creating visuals for organizations and institutions who have mandates to empower, protect and educate woman and children. Coming up with the name of the foundation, Foundation F64, was inspired by the photography group that documented the economic state of the United States during the 1930s. Duration: 66 minutes Topics: - Storytelling through warphotography - Starting Foundation F64 - If a picture ain’t good enough… you ain’t close enough - Can someone b**** slap the academic world - Getting creative when it comes to making a difference in the world - Fleeing your home country 20+ years later you get sentenced for being a spy - How does one mentally prepare for a 2 month trip to Congo to then fly back home and document one of the most happiest festivals in Toronto. - Art has an extreme amount of power, which is one of the reasons why I won’t work on a project unless it can positively impact the region and people in which I'm documenting.

Ed Sheeran is remembering his friend. On Thursday, the singer debuted a new song in tribute to the late SBTV founder Jamal Edwards, who died on Feb. 20 last year at age 31.In a video performance with F64 for SBTV, the artist raps about his friendship with the music entrepreneur who helped launch Sheeran's career.“Yo Jam, this is a letter to you, it's been a while but it's been hard for me to get in the booth," Sheeran raps.“Since we last spoke I've become a father-of-two trying to live life with a smile but that's been harder to do," he continues. “Because all I want to do is talk about you, but these tears won't let me talk about you. We should have known that we'd be lost without you.”The video, in which Sheeran is spotlit and surrounded by candles, was filmed overnight at an empty Stamford Bridge stadium, the home of Chelsea FC, the team Edwards supported his whole life.Edwards' mother, Brenda Edwards, star of "Loose Women", talked about the song on Good Morning Britain this week.“Ed sent me the final edit two days ago and I've kind of been in and out of crying ever since,” she said.“When Jamal passed he was literally at my house with me and Tanisha for a whole week just looking after us,” she added of how Sheeran was there for her and her daughter.source: Ed Sheeran Performs Tribute To Late Friend And SBTV Founder Jamal Edwards (msn.com)Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/analytic-dreamz-notorious-mass-effect/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
