On this week's show we look at our favorite TV Series Finales from Network and Cable TV. We also read your emails and take a look at the week's news. News: TCL Will Add Dolby Atmos FlexConnect to QD-Mini LED TVs Apple's smart home hub could reportedly make its debut later this year YouTube leads US TV viewing for 3rd consecutive month Top Series Finales of Network/Cable TV Shows Here is a rundown of our favorite TV Series Finales. What are your favorites? M*A*S*H – "Goodbye, Farewell and Amen" (CBS, February 28, 1983) This 2.5-hour finale remains the highest-rated scripted TV episode in U.S. history, with a 72% audience share. It masterfully blended comedy and drama, reflecting the show's tone. The Korean War ends, and the 4077th unit disbands, with emotional farewells like Hawkeye's helicopter spotting B.J.'s "GOODBYE" in stones. The Sopranos - “Made in America” (HBO, June 10, 2007) The final episode leaves viewers with a cliffhanger that remains open to interpretation. Tony Soprano is at a diner with his family when the screen cuts to black as a suspicious-looking man glances at him. The ending doesn't explicitly confirm whether Tony is killed, but rather leaves the audience to wonder if he will continue to live under the threat of violence inherent to his mob life. The episode's iconic music, Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'," plays in the background, adding to the tension and suspense. The Mary Tyler Moore Show – "The Last Show" (CBS, March 19, 1977) When WJM-TV's new owner fires the entire newsroom except the incompetent Ted Baxter, the team shares a tearful group hug, and Mary delivers a poignant monologue. Her final act of turning off the studio lights became an iconic TV trope. Snowfall - “The Struggle” (FX, April 19, 2023) The Snowfall saga chronicled the origins and spread of crack cocaine in South Central and how it ultimately threw Los Angeles neighbourhoods into chaos. Anti-hero Franklin Saint, who we first met on a bright summer day full of promise and big dreams, ended the series on that same street hopeless, delusional and destitute. He was last seen wandering away from the house he bought for his mother - his final possession - as officers from the L.A. Sheriff's Department swooped in to evict him over unpaid property taxes. Newhart – "The Last Newhart" (CBS, May 21, 1990) This finale is legendary for its meta twist. After eight seasons of running a Vermont inn, Dick Loudon (Bob Newhart) is hit by a golf ball and wakes up as Dr. Bob Hartley from The Bob Newhart Show (1972–1978), next to his wife Emily (Suzanne Pleshette), revealing the entire series was a dream. The Office - “Finale” (NBC, May 16, 2013) One year later, Dunder Mifflin employees past and present reunite for a panel discussion about the documentary and to attend Dwight and Angela's wedding. The episode features cameos and wraps up several character storylines, with characters attending the wedding and reflecting on their lives and experience. Pretty much everyone gets a happy ending - “That's what she said.” Asian Jim - The Office US Cheers – "One for the Road" (NBC, May 20, 1993) Watched by over 80 million viewers, this 98-minute finale wrapped up the Sam-Diane romance with honesty. Diane (Shelley Long) returns, but instead of a fairy-tale ending, Sam chooses his bar—his true love—over rekindling their relationship. The final line, “Sorry, we're closed,” delivered to a late-night customer, symbolizes the show's end. Justified - “The Promise” (FX, April 14, 2015) After five seasons of rivalry and dare we say friendship, Justified's sixth and final season saw Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens put his "nemesis" Boyd Crowder behind bars. But that isn't what made the finale so incredible. Aside from giving just about every character a bit of closure, there was one scene that we'll never forget: Raylan sitting across from Boyd in prison as he lies about Ava's death and then, when asked why he traveled long and far to deliver the news in person, he finally admitted the one thing viewers have always known - that Boyd isn't his enemy. Goggins then perfectly delivered the line that said everything about their relationship: "We dug coal together." The Big Bang Theory – "The Stockholm Syndrome" (CBS, May 16, 2019) Sheldon and Amy's Nobel win, paired with his heartfelt tribute to his friends, closed the sitcom with sentimentality and growth, though some felt it was overly tidy Friends – "The Last One" (NBC, May 6, 2004) With 52.5 million viewers, this finale delivered closure for the six friends' arcs. Monica and Chandler move to the suburbs with their twins, Ross and Rachel reunite, and the group leaves Monica's apartment for the last time. It balanced humor, nostalgia, and emotional payoff without overstaying its welcome. The Good Place – "Whenever You're Ready" (NBC, January 30, 2020) This philosophical comedy concluded with the characters choosing when to leave their afterlife, reflecting the show's themes of morality and growth. Emotional farewells, especially Eleanor's influence on Chidi, resonated deeply, set against a hopeful yet bittersweet tone. There is a really good series twist at the end of season one as well. Which brings up the concept of season ending cliffhangers. Maybe for another show!

*The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. If you want an ad-free experience, you can subscribe below underneath the show description.A recent AP survey found that 80% of Americans report having experienced “extreme weather” over the last five years, though no definition of the term was provided, therefore leaving the question open to highly subjective answers. The report, as a result, found proof of this in the fact that responses were separated by political party lines: 90% of Democrats see this weather as caused by Climate Change while only 43% of Republicans said the same. Also reported was that 6/10 want government financial support finally in preparing for weather events, as if emergency alerts, storm shelters, etc., are unrelated to government. Nearly all respondents, however, were worried about the rising costs of these “weather events,” a key debate that always ignores location, building habits, economic trends, inflation, and the cost of goods and living habits. What this report fails to consider, besides the definition of already subjective “severe weather,” is that weather might be altered but can never ultimately be controlled by man, be it through human activity (climate change) or geo-engineering, i.e., the alternative to the former. Both views submit that nothing is natural; it's all manmade and government can deal with it. Despite both of these views, weather related deaths have plummeted since the 1920s at a peek of 500,000 to less than 5-10,000 per year today. This is largely due to natural advances in technology and observation. That's not to say geo-engineering is a myth, because it is NOT. But recent weather, from dust storms and fires to blizzards and tornados, have the previous ideologies in heated debate, while both neglect to acknowledge the complexity of weather, like with human health, and the power of Mother Nature. Likewise, much of these debates tend to be US-Centric, with CBS reporting that recent strong winds only extend from the Canadian border to the Mexican border. Snowfall in Chiba Prefecture Japan in mid-March is abnormal but not unheard of, and is thus seen as just the changing of the seasons. In the US, it is proof of something afoot. All of the recent “extreme weather” is also blamed for every type of weather imaginable: the same storm systems caused fires, dust storms, rain, tornadoes, snow, blizzards, and thunderstorms, not to mention heat and cold. CBS reported: “a massive storm system moving across the country unleashed winds that triggered deadly dust storms and fanned more than 100 wildfires. Forecasters assigned an unusual ‘high risk' designation to the system, which was also blamed for icy winter weather in northern parts of the country and severe thunderstorms, including on the West Coast, on Sunday…. Winds gusting up to 80 mph were predicted from the Canadian border to Texas.”It should lastly be noted that most fires in the United States are started by cooking methods, or other causes like arson, with less than 5% in most states coming from anything natural or climate rated. -FREE ARCHIVE (w. ads)SUBSCRIPTION ARCHIVEX / TWITTER FACEBOOKWEBSITECashApp: $rdgable EMAIL: rdgable@yahoo.com / TSTRadio@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/tst-radio--5328407/support.

Defying all laws of common decency and good taste, Jethro and Lindsay have finished another episode of The Shallow End! J.G. kicks things off with a story of a man no longer content with the standard methods of removing snow from his backyard. Anyone can shovel it – but where's the inventive spirit of adventure in that?! There are times when a man needs to harness creativity – and a big tank of flammable propane – to achieve his dreams! Lindsay follows up with a primer on why it's important to keep your license plates up to date. His story from Oklahoma (OK!) involves a most usual traffic stop for some expired tags. How would that lead to the discovery of a caged rattlesnake, an open bottle of bourbon, a loaded firearm and – wait for it – a bottle of uranium? So glad you asked, gentle listener. //The Wire//2300Z February 18, 2025////ROUTINE////BLUF: CRYPTOCURRENCY MARKETS TREND TOWARDS NATIONSTATES ENGAGING IN QUESTIONABLE COIN LAUNCHES. POPE FRANCIS ILL WITH PNEUMONIA. FIRE BREAKS OUT AT DEFENSE CONTRACTOR FACILITY NEAR PHILLY.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Vatican City: Following recent health concerns, the Vatican confirmed this morning that Pope Francis is suffering from bilateral pneumonia and will be undergoing medical treatment over the next few days/weeks.Economics: Various developments within the world of cryptocurrencies have come to light over the past few weeks. The markets have largely remained unimpressive as the pro-crypto sentiments expressed during Trump's campaign have not materialized in the form of policy. Both the ($ TRUMP) and ($ MELANIA) coins have turned out to largely be very questionable operations, despite Trump's coin having a market cap of over $3 billion.-HomeFront-Pennsylvania: A major fire broke out overnight at SPS Technologies north of Philadelphia. So far the cause of the fire has not been publicly disclosed, and a one-mile shelter-in-place zone remains in effect for the surrounding area. AC: SPS Technologies (who's parent company is Berkshire Hathaway) is a major defense contractor, providing fasteners and various industrial materials/chemicals to the military.Southeastern U.S. - Snowfall estimates remain variable throughout the disaster zones recently subjected to severe flooding. National Weather Service forecasts indicate that the additional rain expected this week won't significantly impact flooding throughout the region. Nevertheless, severe winter weather is expected from the Ozarks to central Appalachia over the next few days.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: In the world of finance, perhaps most interesting are the sheer number of meme-coin rug-pulls that have been conducted at the nationstate level over the past week. In the past, podcasters and influencers would create a meme coin (keeping most of the supply for themselves), then promote that coin heavily to drive the price up, before selling off their entire supply for a large profit. In the world of traditional stock trading something similar is generally known as a Pump-and-Dump scheme. However in the world of crypto a slightly more simple version of this scheme is known as pulling the rug out from underneath investors, i.e. a "rug pull". When it's a meme coin that is started purely for the joke itself and not taken seriously, it's bad enough since this is essentially just fraudulent creators scamming their fans. However, world leaders and nationstates are now apparently engaging in this practice. The President of the Central African Republic launched his own meme coin ($ CAR) on behalf of the nation last week. The coin spiked in value before immediately bottoming out, with most investors suspecting that the President divested at the peak of the coin's value, meaning that a President rug-pulled his own nation's cryptocurrency. A similar situation was reported last week in India, as a government official (with almost 400k followers on X) launched a token that he deliberately claimed (in a since-deleted tweet) as being India's official government token. The issue is that this was done unilaterally without approval, and complicated by the fact that India already has a national cryptocurrency. As expected, the ($ INDIA) token, spiked in value before immediately being flooded with liquidity (as the early investors dumped their holdings), signaling yet another government official with a large following that has openly scammed investors. These types of crypto-fraud have not entirely been confined to the third world, however. Argentine President Javier Milei has drawn much criticism over the past few days after he promoted a meme coin ($ LIBRA) which also turned out to be a very blatant rug-pu

"The First Snowfall" (excerpt) by James Russell Lowell The snow had begun in the gloaming, And busily all the nightHad been heaping field and highway With a silence deep and white. Every pine and fir and hemlock Wore ermine too dear for an earl,And the poorest twig on the elm-tree Was ridged inch deep with pearl. Go to www.LearningLeader.com for full show notes of The Learning Leader Show Sign up for "Mindful Monday" (it's free) - https://ryanhawk.kit.com/profile My guest for episode #618 is Chase Jarvis. Chase is a photographer, director, artist, and entrepreneur. He was the CEO of an online education platform called Creative Live from 2014 to 2022. He's earned countless awards for his photography and creative work including a Pulitzer Prize for a New York Times story he contributed to called “Snow Fall.” He's also the author of multiple books including Creative Calling and Never Play It Safe. Notes: Opening Joke: "What has 52 teeth and holds back a monster?" We are all wildly creative. It is trained out of us as we grow older. Creativity is foundational to all human beings. It's on us to tap into our creativity and get it out of us to help solve problems, to create optionality, and to be innovative. Regardless of your job, becoming more creative will make you better at it. Play infinite games with transformational people. It seems like when we give to others, genuinely try to help them, and have a service orientation, good things happen to all. There are transactional people and transformational leaders. Let's strive to be transformative and play the long game with high-character people. Transactional leaders are infuriating. Transformational leaders are inspiring. “A bird sitting on a tree is never afraid of the branch breaking, because its trust is not on the branch, but on its own wings.” Believe in yourself and your ability to bounce back if the thing doesn't go your way. Set up a series of experiments. Not all of them will work. You'll be better for having tried, and tried again, and then again. We learn from both our successes and our failures. Initially, Chase planned to attend medical school after graduating from undergrad. A few weeks before his graduation, his grandfather died and left all his photography equipment to his grandson. “Security is mostly superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.” - Helen Keller "Safety is an illusion. It does not exist in nature, so why then do we seek it? "Playing it safe is about fear. And fear is only optimized for survival--not creativity, happiness, joy, connection, harmony, fulfillment, or any of the gifts you have to give or receive in this life." Intuition is everything. What if we started paying attention to that? "I don't know why they call us founders. I didn't find anything. I built that shit. We are builders." There are 7 basic levers for life: Attention Time – NYU Professor James Carse. Finite and infinite games. Treat life like an infinite game. What's the difference between systems and schedules? (why are systems better?) Intuition – The benefits of compounding trust. Chase's wife Kate. First met on a beach just after high school. Sparks were present, but no fire. “She had a special quality I couldn't quite place.” Went to college 1,500 miles apart. All along it was your intuition that kept you on notice. How do you know when it's your intuition speaking? Why is playing it safe the riskiest thing we can do Constraints - What can we learn about constraints from Stefan Sagmeister? Play - What can we learn about play from Novak Djokovic? Failure - Melissa Arnot Reid – Replaces the word “fail” with the word “live” – Instead of saying “I'm afraid to fail. She says I'm afraid to live.” Practice - Purposeful practice. Anders Ericsson Keynote speaking - Don't be a robot. Have fun. Let it rip. Results are better in a better state of mind. Do tiny experiments when the stakes are low.
