Are you unintentionally overwhelming your audience with too much information? In this episode, I dive into one of the most common mistakes I see smart, experienced professionals make in their presentations: overloading them with information. I know it's tempting - after all, we want to provide value. But here's the truth: real impact doesn't come from how much you teach, but from how much you transform. In this episode, you'll learn: Why more information isn't always better (and can actually be a disservice) How to shift your content from info-dumping to insight-sharing The key ingredients that create transformation in your talks What I learned from TV shows like Succession and Inventing Anna about confidence, vision, and belief (yep, there's a lesson in there!) How focusing on transformation helps you position yourself as a thought leader and raise your speaking fees I'll also share examples from our Thought Leader Academy and client presentations to show you exactly how to make this shift. We explore her legal battles, time in prison, ongoing immigration issues, and her latest projects, including a new media venture. Cold-Open-Frage: "Was halten wir vom angedachten ,Buffy'-Reboot"?

Synopsis Wolf Man is a movie about Blake, a family man struggling to make his marriage work and to be a better man than his father was. When Blake gets a letter in the mail informing him that his father who went missing years earlier has finally been officially declared dead by the state, he and his family leave their busy city life to pack up his father's old farmhouse and spend some time in the mountains. The wooded area surrounding the house is ominous and filled with local legends of men with the face of the wolf, but surely it's a good idea to bring your wife and young daughter to live there for a summer. If I were to spend anymore time talking about the synopsis of this movie I would end up giving everything away as there isn't much more to this film. Review of Wolf Man (2025) When I saw the trailer for Wolfman I was disappointed. Except for An American Werewolf in London, I've never seen a werewolf movie that wasn't extremely middle of the road, and from the marketing, this movie looked to be no different. But I was wrong. It was actually somehow a little worse than middle of the road. I was excited to see Julia Garner cast as the female lead because I've really enjoyed her performances in other things such as Ozark, Inventing Anna, and The Assistant. But I was surprised to find that her character was bland and uninteresting. At first, I figured she kind of butchered the role, but it soon became apparent that the real problem was the writing. The dialog felt cold and emotionless. Even during scenes that were supposed to be touching, suspenseful, or exciting, all of the characters seemed to deliver the most boring inhuman lines. The worst case of this was the daughter played by Matilda Firth. It was as if the writers had never met a child in real life and were just guessing at what a child might speak like. The result is a family that I couldn't care less about. The reveal towards the end of the movie is very easy to see coming and I was able to call it about 10 minutes into the movie. The monster design is uninteresting, the movie drags on, and it gives no meaningful contribution to the werewolf subgenre. Score 4/10

I spoke with Leigh Whannell, the director and co-writer of the new movie “Wolf Man.” The movie stars Christopher Abbott ("Poor Things") and Julia Garner ("Ozark" and "Inventing Anna.") I won't give anything away, but I'll just say that they take a trip to a house in the middle of the woods and not-great things happen. Film/slasher fans know Leigh as the co-creator of "Saw" and fun party guy Jigsaw, and was the writer of the recent "Invisible Man" remake starring Elizabeth Moss. He's done a bunch of other stuff, and to use a polite term, they're all pretty effed up. This film was produced by Blumhouse Productions, the wildly successful indie production house that is the force behind “The Purge,” “Insidious,” “Paranormal Activity,” and tons of more flicks designed to scare that crap out of us. I spoke with Leigh a few days ago to find out how he's gotten so damn good at monetizing terror and also to ask him point blank, what the hell is wrong with you? Learn more about your ad choices. pWotD Episode 2696: Anna Sorokin Welcome to Popular Wiki of the Day, spotlighting Wikipedia's most visited pages, giving you a peek into what the world is curious about today. With 245,809 views on Wednesday, 18 September 2024 our article of the day is Anna Sorokin.Anna Sorokin (Russian: Анна Сорокина; born January 23, 1991), also known as Anna Delvey, is a con artist and fraudster who posed as a wealthy heiress to access upper-class New York social and art scenes from 2013 to 2017.Born to working-class parents in the Soviet Union (now Russia), Sorokin emigrated from Russia to Germany with her family at the age of 16 in 2007. In 2011, she left Germany to live in London and Paris before relocating to New York City in 2013, where she interned for the French fashion magazine Purple. Sorokin conceived of a private members' club and arts foundation, which included leasing a large building to feature pop-up shops and exhibitions by notable artists she met while interning. She later created fake financial documents to substantiate her claims of having a multi-million-euro trust fund, and forged multiple wire transfer confirmations. Sorokin used these documents, as well as fraudulent checks, to trick banks, acquaintances, and realtors into paying out cash and granting large loans without collateral. She used this to fund her lavish lifestyle, including residencies in multiple upscale hotels. Between 2013 and 2017, Sorokin defrauded and deceived major financial institutions, banks, hotels, and individuals out of $275,000.In 2017, the NYPD arrested Sorokin in a sting operation with the help of her former friend, Rachel DeLoache Williams, who accused Sorokin of defrauding her of $62,000. In 2019, a New York state court convicted Sorokin of attempted grand larceny, larceny in the second degree, and theft of services, and she was sentenced to 4 to 12 years in prison. After serving two years, she was remanded into the custody of U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for deportation to Germany. On 5 October 2022, Sorokin was granted a $10,000 bail bond and released from prison. Sorokin's story gained publicity when Williams wrote a lengthy article in Vanity Fair about her experiences with Sorokin in 2018. She expanded on the story in her 2019 book My Friend Anna. The same year, journalist Jessica Pressler wrote an article for New York about Sorokin's life as a socialite; Netflix paid Sorokin $320,000 for the rights to her story and developed it into the 2022 miniseries Inventing Anna. Sorokin's life story has been the subject of multiple other television shows, interviews, podcasts, and theater productions. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:56 UTC on Thursday, 19 September 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Anna Sorokin on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Aria.

TALK TO ME, TEXT ITEver wondered how a TV show can both captivate and disappoint? This episode opens with a spirited analysis of "Inventing Anna," where we dissect the portrayal of characters and share some candid critiques about the casting choices. We then introduce you to another series, "Palm Royale," lauding the standout performances of Kristen Wiig and Ricky Martin. But our conversation takes a sobering turn as we discuss a disturbing news story involving Diego Rodriguez Salvador, an illegal migrant accused of a heinous crime in Louisiana. Our emotions run high as we express the urgent need for severe legal consequences for such actions.Prepare to be both amused and bewildered as we recount two jaw-dropping stories. In Virginia, a handgun stored in an oven led to an alarming incident when it fired multiple rounds as the oven heated up, serving as a stark reminder of the critical importance of gun safety. Then, there's the incredulous tale of a woman slapped with a meticulous invoice from her sister after babysitting her child. The charges, ranging from toilet flushes to apple juice, totaled $72 and came with a stern payment deadline. These stories not only highlight the quirks and follies of human behavior but also spark important discussions on safety and family dynamics. Tune in for a rollercoaster of emotions and insights! In the weeks since George Santos was expelled from Congress, his story has been funnelled straight into the entertainment pipeline, from a memorable sketch on “Saturday Night Live” and reports of a film in the works at HBO to his own exploits on Cameo, where he's charging five hundred dollars apiece for personalized video messages. On this episode of Critics at Large, the staff writers Vinson Cunningham, Naomi Fry, and Alexandra Schwartz assess why Santos's story resonates with audiences, and the enduring appeal of the scammer narrative, from Herman Melville's “The Confidence-Man” to Meredith Wilson's “The Music Man.” Scammers embody—and exploit—a central tenet of the American Dream: the promise of a brighter future awaiting those audacious enough to reach for it. But their stories can also expose the weaknesses at the heart of our institutions. Why, then, do we keep coming back for more? “The level of enjoyment that we gain from these depictions of scams doesn't mean that the critique isn't there,” Fry says. “It's almost like we as audiences are also begging, ‘Please make this fun for us.' ” Read, watch, and listen with the critics: “Every Day's a Holiday” (1937) “Inventing Anna” (2022) “Telemarketers” (2023) “The Confidence-Man,” by Herman Melville “The Dropout” (2022) “The Fabulist,” by Mark Chiusano “The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley” (2019) “The Music Man” (1957) “The Postman Always Rings Twice” (1946) The “Simpsons” episode “Marge vs. the Monorail” (1993) “The Wolf of Wall Street” (2013) “Trafficked With Mariana van Zeller” (2020 – present) New episodes drop every Thursday. I got to interview Robert Kerbeck. Robert Kerbeck's true crime memoir, RUSE: Lying the American Dream from Hollywood to Wall Street is the story of how a wannabe actor became the world's greatest corporate spy. Frank Abagnale, author of Catch Me If You Can, said, “Kerbeck has mastered the art of social engineering, or what he calls 'rusing', and taken it to a whole new level,” while Shondaland (producer of the Netflix series Inventing Anna) described RUSE as "almost too good to be true with no shortage of wild stories.” Kerbeck's previous book MALIBU BURNING: The Real Story Behind LA's Most Devastating Wildfire, won a SoCal Journalism Award, the IPPY Award, and the Best of LA Award. His writing has appeared in numerous publications including the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, Los Angeles Magazine, and Lithub's Crime Reads. We spoke up: 1:51 Moving to New York to be an actor. 2:11 Becoming a corporate spy. 3:51 Using acting skills to get companies to divulge sensitive information. 5:51 Major corporations spend hundreds of millions of dollars to spy on each other. 8:51 Went from making 8 dollars an hour to 2 million a year. 10:51 Pivoting careers. 14:06 Getting more information over the phone vs in person. 16:06 The weakest link in cyber security is the human being. 18:01 A number of close calls. 22:31 About the book. 23:51 Take the journey you want to take. *Disclaimer: The views and opinions on Roman Prokopchuk's Digital Savage Experience are those of the guest's alone as their own, and the host's alone as his own. In this episode of The New Abnormal podcast, hosts Andy Levy and Danielle Moodie respond to an interview clip where George Santos calls himself “regular guy” and explains the real reason why he thinks people don't like him. And Danielle makes an astute comparison of Santos to the main character of the show “Inventing Anna,” a serial grifter. Plus, they unpack the 2018 recording of Ron DeSantis doing debate prep with Matt Gaetz who says he's “aggressive” like Donald Trump. Then Andy chats with Marcus Flowers, who ran against Marjorie Taylor Greene in the 2022 election on what sets his new Mission: Democracy PAC apart from the Lincoln Project and why he thinks it can help candidates win in super MAGA-influenced districts. Why is it that when a movie or a TV show is based on a true story, all the sudden we become that much more interested in whatever we're watching? Is it the IRL drama? Or is it the gag that we can't believe real people do crazy shit like stealing airplanes or drugging the men of Wall Street and taking all their money? This week we're talking to journalist Jessica Pressler, who wrote both “The Hustlers at Scores” (HHHHHHEYYYYY) and “How Anna Delvey Tricked New York's Party People”. She gives us an inside look at how these stories came to be, the relationships she has with the subjects of her stories, and what actually happened in those Rikers prison visits she had with Anna.
