Prayer 2021 - January 31 - Your Giving Gets God's Attention

Prayer 2021

Scripture of the Day:    Acts 10:4 “Cornelius stared at him in fear. “What is it, Lord?” he asked. The angel answered, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God.” Your Giving Captures God's Attention Cornelius had been praying. Scripture tells us he was a believer in the God of the Hebrews. He was doing his best to help the Jewish nation and the people he was in charge of. As a Centurion, he had control, militarily, over that region. But, he was also a person who believed in prayer. And he was praying to the God of Heaven. Amen! As part of his prayer life, he would give financially to the support of the local synagogue. And he was not a cheap giver either. He wasn't just giving a pocket full of quarters in the Salvation Army bucket at Christmas time. No, he was KNOWN for being a giver. That is why, later, when the people he had sent to get Peter to come back to his home, they testified to his Faith and how much money and support he had already provided to the Jews. They were saying, basically, “This guy is for real.” But here, I want you to notice, the angel said, “Your PRAYERS have come up as a memorial before God.” (Yes, I know, I misquoted – but stick with me here, I'm making a point). Cornelius was a praying man. This is what God's attention. Does God ONLY hear the prayers of the righteous? No. He hears everyone's prayers! “Wait a minute Brother Bob, God hears everyone's prayers?”  YES – absolutely! He heard your prayer when you prayed to receive Jesus as your Savior, didn't He?   “Well, yes. Of course.”  Well, before you prayed that prayer; before you received Jesus as your Savior, were you righteous or unrighteous?  Were you still in your sin when you prayed to God? Of course! So that is proof, right there, as well as other scriptures, that says God hears the prayers of the righteous and the unrighteous. So, first and foremost, Cornelius was a man of prayer. THAT is what caught God's attention. But, Cornelius went one step further than simply praying. He put money where his mouth was, so to speak. He became such a giver, that his GIVING also caught God's attention.  If you want to get God's attention, it really requires you to do THREE THINGS. “Three things, brother Bob? I thought you were talking about prayer and giving here?” YES…but what needs to come first, as I've been teaching for about a month now on this program, is this… You need to spend time in God's WORD on a daily basis. For yourself! Not relying on someone else to read the Word for you and tell you what it says. When you spend time with God – IN HIS WORD – and then spend time TALKING TO GOD in prayer and then you back up all of that with sacrificial FINANCIAL GIVING – with your prayers over the seed you are sowing – you can't help but GET GOD's ATTENTION!  And we see that is what happened right here with Cornelius.  What was the result?  The first gentile convert to Christianity! Praise God! And it did not just bless Cornelius and him alone. It says his “whole house, family, friends and servants” were Baptized in the Holy Spirit. AMEN! The study of the Word of God doesn't only impact you… Praying on a continuous, daily – all-day long basis, doesn't impact only you… Giving, financially and sacrificially to God's work – doesn't impact only you… IT IMPACTS OTHERS ALL AROUND YOU!  So, what do you need to do today? First – Get out your Bible on a daily basis and read at least one chapter per day. Preferably read for at least 15-20 minutes each day. That may be one chapter (if it's a long one) or it may three or four chapters. But you need to be in the Bible each and every day. Next, PRAY. We've been teaching all month on praying on a continuous basis, all day long, about the little things in life as well as the big things.   Finally, GIVE into the Kingdom of God. Amen!  If you would...

ANNOUNCMENTS Quarantine Song Challenge-  We have had several submissions for the Quarantine Song Challenge and there has been a ton of talent represented! Due to time availability and the decreasing number of submissions, I believe it's a good time to bring it to a close. So, the final day for entering the QSC will be this Friday, May 22nd. The voting will begin the following Monday on the live stream as we all listen one last time to all the submissions and vote on them together. (There will also be offline voting available for those that missed the stream, but it will all take place on the YouTube Channel. The winner will be announced on the live stream Thursday, May 28th.  EAR TO THE GROUND  First up, in today's ear to the ground we're going to cover the IR packs being released by the guys over at Worship Tutorials.  One common problem you run into when playing an acoustic live as a DI source is the horrible representation of sound that the DI produces. The fact is, even an $11,000 guitar will sound like trash when pitted against the dreadful DI input. In order to combat this, the team over at the Worship Tutorials channel have come up with some IR (Impulse Response) Packs to help alleviate the woes of the sound guy and allow for an acoustic guitar to really shine on stage again. Here is a sound example of a Martin D-35 with the IR in action. The first portion is the D-35 mic'd up with an Earthworks S-R25, the second portion is the straight DI source, and the last portion is being ran through the S-R25 IR. The next portion we're going to listen to is the Holy Grail IR Pack.      This portion of audio is the channel owners beautiful McPherson Camrielle being played through the Line 6 Helix as a Direct Out, and as he's playing he is turning the Holy Grail IR on and off using the on board footswitch.  The first portion of audio we're hearing is with the IR off (dry direct out), the next portion is with the IR enabled, The guitars pickup is an LR BAGSS Anthem SL. This Acoustic IR pack captures the incredible tone of Brian McPherson® Camrielle. These IR’s can be used in any hardware or app that accepts .wav IR files and allow you to get the sound of a world class mic’d acoustic guitar direct. Included in your download are multiple acoustic pickup options to accommodate a wide range of acoustic guitars and pickups. These are meant to make your acoustic guitar sound incredible. They are not designed to make an electric guitar sound like an acoustic. IMPORTANT NOTES 1. INTENDED FOR USE WITH ACOUSTIC GUITARS: Our acoustic IR’s are intended to be used with acoustic guitars. They are not meant to make an electric guitar sound like an acoustic guitar. 2. CROSS PLATFORM: These .WAV impulse responses can be used in any hardware or application that supports IR’s. This includes products by Line 6 (Helix, HX Stomp, HX Effects, etc), Kemper, Axe-FX, etc. 3. EXPERIMENT: We’ve included multiple options in this IR pack (more details below). The best idea is just to start experimenting with your guitar and find the IR or combinations of IR’s that sound the best. Our recommendation is to first find the pickup type that fits your guitar best (see the pickup options section), and then experiment with different mic options for that pickup type.   3 FREE PLUGS  1- Lagrange by Ursa DSP - Lagrange is a unique stereo delay system producing other worldly echoes using granular techniques, where each grain is from a different point in the delay buffer: Use basic settings to create immersive stereo imagery with clean early reflections to give instruments a clear place in the mix. Use the feedback control to transform your sounds into droning evolving soundscapes. Shorten the delay time to create unusual metallic chorus effects. 2 - Glitch Machines Hysteresis -  Hysteresis features a delay effect with stutter, lowpass filter and modulation effects thrown into the feedback signal path. The input signal first goes through a delay line on each stereo channel, but instead of sending the output directly back into the delay line, the resulting signal is sent to a stutter processor, then to a lowpass filter and finally to another delay line on the opposite channel which is modulated for creating chorus type effects. The output of the second delay line is then routed back to the first one on the original channel. The stutter effect can be used to generate reverse delays, noisy pitch-shifting or raw granulation. The lowpass filter has an internal LFO to make the cutoff frequency oscillate, and the modulation processor can act as a subtle chorus or noisy modulator depending on the range of the modulation rate. 3 - Metric Halo Thump -   Thump is a unique audio processor that allows you to synthesize low frequency audio to add low end to a track or generate another sound entirely. Thump looks at the pitch and dynamics of its audio input and uses this information to control its oscillators. You can add low end to drums, augment a bass or even create synthetic drones. Thump is ideal for beefing up a kick drum, add low end to percussive tracks, re-create classic drum synth sounds, and more. You can use Thump's envelope driven, percussive sub-harmonic synth for the following things (among others): Build low-octave support for bass drum, tom, snare, and other percussive tracks Create kettle drum sounds from regular drum tracks Re-create the sounds of classic drum synths like the TR-808   Main Thought   The Creative's Worst Enemy As a creative you have infinite potential. You think differently than others, you troubleshoot and find ways around common ordinary problems that leave others seemingly paralyzed. Your stress levels are scientifically proven to be lower than the average person, and let's face it, you're a whole lot cooler than most people you know. Although there are many more positive traits attributed to all you wonderfully creative folk out there, we need to get real for a moment. There are some elephants in the room that we need to address, and we need to talk about it together, because I need to hear this as much as I need to say this.  Criticism-Lack of Confidence Look even with all the awesomeness that just oozes from us, there are some things we need to work on. For instance, most of us are very prone to have our feelings hurt easily when someone offers us criticism. This is due in part to the fact that creatives are more emotionally driven than the average person, and even if the vociferous vituperation (also know as hate) is unfounded or blatantly inaccurate, we have a tendency to allow it to ruin the rest of our day. Now, out of all the issues I am addressing today I chose to tackle this one first because it's the hardest one to deal with, and I feel like if you leave this one sided conversation before I'm finished, you at least need to hear this before you go. (BTW please don't leave) So, if you find yourself in an inner battle between what you believe about yourself versus what your accuser is saying, here are some things that we need to keep in mind. First off, consider the source. Is this a trusted friend that is trying to genuinely help you by pointing out something that you need to improve upon to become a better version of you? Sometimes, this is in fact the case, and we need to see this as a positive. If someone close to you has stepped out on that limb, knowing your proclivity to be easily offended, that means that they care enough about you to risk offending you to help open your eyes to an oversight on your behalf.  Conversely, if the criticism is coming from a complete stranger, or someone who knowingly doesn't care for you. Then, as hard as it is to do sometimes, simply push it out of your mind and realize that their words do not dictate your worth. You have to have enough confidence to be aware of your strengths, enough humility to know your weaknesses, and enough grit to pull your shoulders back, raise your head up, and calmly move on. Do not let it anger you. The old saying is, he who angers you, controls you. And you can't change a persons point of view who has not taken the time to know you in the first place.  However, supposing that what ever was said rings true and resonates. Then turn that negative moment, and the energy that it produces toward the problem and not the person. You can fix the problem if you own it, but if you allow that negativity to build a nest in your head, it's only going to breed more uncertainty. Yet again, confidence, humility, and grit. Whew, okay on to less sensitive topic. Procrastination The next thing I'd like to discuss is procrastination. I was going to talk about this first, but I figured I'd put it off for a bit. (chuckles to self) Perhaps one of the most widely used excuses made by creatives is a lack of time to be creative. I see it all the time in the various forums and Facebook groups I'm a part of, and believe me I get it. I mean who wouldn't want to have all the time in the world to sing, write, produce, mix, and everything else that makes us feel like we're actually accomplishing something. Most of us, myself included, have full time jobs, families to tend to, and a million other people that always seem to need just a little bit of our time. It's hard to fit in anything remotely creative when so many are pulling us in another direction. I mean, there is nothing creative about washing dishes and folding laundry. However, when the time arises, and we find ourselves without any other distractions. It is so easy to be lured down the paths of project folder clean ups, free plug ins, the latest gear review, or heaven forbid the cute kitty videos. There is an innate desire within us to use this time wisely, but whether it is fear that keeps us from creating or our lack of direction, somehow more times than most we finds ourselves wandering off the path to check emails or post our new shiny piece of gear we haven't used in a month.  The answer to procrastination isn't a simple one either, but here are some tips to help. Poor organization can lead to procrastination. Organized people successfully overcome it because they use prioritized To-Do Lists and create effective schedules. These tools help you to organize your tasks by priority and deadline. Even if you're organized, you can still feel overwhelmed by a task. Perhaps you have doubts about your ability and a fear of failing, so you put it off and seek comfort in doing work that you know that you're capable of completing. The truth is some people fear success as much as failure. They think that success will lead to being swamped with requests to take on more tasks. Surprisingly, perfectionists are often procrastinators. Often, they'd rather avoid doing a task that they don't feel they have the skills to do, rather than do it imperfectly. Another major cause of procrastination is poor decision-making. If you can't decide what to do, you'll likely put off taking action in case you do the wrong thing.  Procrastination is a habit – a deeply ingrained pattern of behavior. This means that you probably can't break it overnight. Habits only stop being habits when you avoid practicing them. So here some strategies to give yourself the best possible chance of succeeding. Forgive yourself for procrastinating in the past - This will help you feel more positive about yourself and reduce the likelihood of procrastination in the future. Commit to the task - Focus on doing, not avoiding. Write down the tasks that you need to complete, and specify a time for doing them. This will help you to proactively tackle your work. Promise yourself a reward - If you complete a difficult task on time, reward yourself with a treat, such as a slice of cake or a coffee from your favorite coffee shop. And make sure you notice how good it feels to finish things! Be accountable - Find someone to check in on your progress, or tell a group your a part of about the project you're starting. This will give you incentive to get it done, knowing that others know about it. Act as you go - Tackle tasks as soon as they arise, rather than letting them build up over another day. Rephrase your internal dialog - Change the phrases "need to" and "have to," for example, to "I choose to." This implies that you own a project, and can make you feel more in control of your workload. Minimize distractions - Turn off your email and social media, and avoid sitting anywhere near a television while you work! Do the Worst, First - Get those tasks that you loathe out of the way early. This will give you the rest of the day to concentrate on work that you find more enjoyable. Now, for the keen mind that picked up on the underlying theme here. These two problems feed into one another, and both in some way stem from fear. Whether it is fear of failure or fear of the unfulfilled, at the heart of most of our unfinished tasks is an underlying fear that even when the task is completed it won't be good enough. Maybe you feel like I do at times, that when I finally finish the task, I will let myself down with its lack of perfection. Yet, the answer to becoming better at anything in life is to strive for perfection. In other words, do more of what you're not doing now because you're to afraid you'll come up short.  The only way to get better at something is to do it over and over, until you learn what to do and what not to do.  If you were to ask a hundred famous inventors, artists, or creatives (people like Alexander Graham Bell, Henry Ford, Leonardo Davinci, etc.) what did you do to get from point "A" to point "B"? Everyone one of them would tell you by making a lot of mistakes and completing (keyword) hours worth of work on something that others told me was frivolous. The fact is, that sometimes what's holding you back is the thought that something is holding you back, and sometimes we just need to get out of our own way.

Episode 004 – Creating Your Booth Flow   If you’re not familiar with the term Booth Flow, it’s just what it sounds like – how to get show attendees to flow through your booth.  And it's possibly the number one thing you can plan and orchestrate which will make the greatest difference in your results! ·       The reason Booth Flow is effective is because it incorporates the most critical parts that will make or break your success at a show.  ·  How to engage attendees ·  What info to capture ·  How to capture it ·  What you want people to leave your booth with ·       The Booth Flow is your game plan!! It includes just three key components: ·  First – Get attendees into your booth ·  Second – Capture Your Key information – What do you want to capture, and how will you capture it? ·       Is everything you need on a business card? Probably not. Then you need to identify all the info you need and want. ·       How are you going to Capture that info? Figure out a system. ·  Third – What do you want them to leave with?  ·       Literature/Marketing materials ·       Giveaways ·       What do you want them remembering? ·       What do you want them to experience? ·       How do you want them feeling? ·       Orchestrate how your attendees will enter, experience and exit your booth – and that is the secret ingredient to maximizing your results. ·       Your Booth flow, just like everything else, starts with your Goals. Your goals will help determine your flow.  ·       It all starts with making that first contact with an attendee. Don’t rely on attendees walking up to you. You need to have a strategy for engaging attendees. ·  There are three ways to get people to stop at your booth: ·       #1 – Pre-show marketing. Advertising, social media, direct mail, etc.  ·       #2 – Games, giveaways, attractions, or promotions. Nothing attracts like a spinning prize wheel, a magician, or something that delights the senses. ·       #3 – Actually engaging people and inviting them into your booth. This can make the biggest difference in the results you get from your show.  ·  Now you can do all 3 options together to increase your odds of getting more people into your booth, but #3 is by far the most important.  ·       Never assume that attendees who walk past your booth got enough information to tell they don’t need to stop.  ·       You may have the best products, innovation, display and employees. But it doesn’t matter if people don’t stop! ·       Top 6 things to NOT do in your booth: ·  Give a simple greeting like Hello, how’s it going or how you doing. ·  Asking any sort of yes/no question that has nothing to do with your company OR doesn’t make the attendee think.  ·  Say nothing! Just stare at the attendee, have a big smile, and say nothing.  4. Be on your phone and ignoring attendees. Put your phone away while you’re in the booth! 5. Talking with other booth staff 6. We're starting this episode off with a voice message and ending with a bang! We love these episodes and we love you. Keep sending emails! Big Takeaways Some of these questions need way more than a quick email response and a spot on YAWA! SOme of them need a deeper dive. For those questions and more, we are here for you one-on-one! If you want our attention for a full two hours of consulting, hit us up and we can schedule a video chat meeting. 2 hours, $200. Easy peasy! So valuable and fun. Announcement! Wed 2019 - We are the emcees for this day-long educational wedding event in Boston. Join us! (links below). We are SO excited about this event and trip. PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU WANT TO MEET US FOR DRINKS ON SATURDAY, MARCH 30 IN BOSTON! WE'RE PLANNING A MEET UP. Voicemail Questions! - Lots of questions about getting around for our destination wedding and also - wth is a cocktail-style reception? Ask: To summarize the question about transportation from this bride...almost all of the guests are traveling in for the wedding. The ceremony is about 30 minutes away from the reception venue. The hotels are near the reception venue. Second part of the call was about ‘cocktail-style' receptions - which are very cool in New Orleans, where this wedding will be. But our caller is concerned about how to make one work for her family that will be expecting a traditional sit-down reception! Answer: Ok. The answer about transportation is a long, detailed, logistic-heavy answer. But that's part of the deal when you want shuttles and you have a 30 minute or longer commute between venues for your guests! So - here goes: Get 2 shuttle busses so that you can stagger the shuttle pre-ceremony. That way if some of the guests are not ready early, they can catch the 2nd one. Pre-Ceremony: (Note - a shuttle will have an agreed upon ‘spot' time - this is when they will arrive on location and be ready for guests. Typically, this is 15 minutes before the guests will be walking on to the shuttle.) First: Get on Waze or Google Maps on a Saturday at your ceremony time of day and look at the drive time between ceremony & reception. If it says 37 minutes with traffic, then round up to 40 minutes and that is your drive time. Remember that a shuttle van or bus is going to drive a lot slower than a regular car. Here is what I would do for a 4pm ceremony with a 30 minute drive time between the hotel and the church Shuttle #1: 3pm departure - 3:30pm drop-off (you will tell your guests that shuttle #1 departs at 2:50pm) Shuttle #2: 3:15pm departure - 3:45pm drop-off (you will tell your guests that shuttle #2 departs at 3:05pm) Have a friend or family member that knows most of your guests be the point person at the hotel. Give them the name & phone number of the transportation company. Give the transportation company their name and cell number as the on-site contact. Post-Ceremony: The busses should be ready to go as soon as you are pronounced married. They will be standing by during the ceremony anyway. (You want guests to leave right after the ceremony so that you can get on with the post-ceremony photos in relative peace!) The drivers will wait for each bus to be filled with guests before heading to the reception. Have your point person call your on-site contact at the reception venue to let him/her know the guests are in route and give an ETA. End of the night: If the reception is not at the hotel where guests are staying, then you will need to shuttle them at the end of the night as well. I would keep both shuttle busses through to the end of the night. Then you have these shuttles at your disposal for anyone that wants to leave early, and they will circle back to you for the guests who are leaving at the very end of the event. They can make multiple trips - you have hired them for a certain amount of time, not a certain amount of gas. Part 2 of this question: Cocktail-style receptions are awesome! When in New Orleans - do it the New Orleans way. Here's the thing: as long as you have food, booze and music...the only thing you are adding to a reception this way is time...things are just more spread out and less rushed. It's the NOLA way of doing things. I suggest you set up a mix of high boy cocktail tables and small seating areas - tables that can fit 8-10 clustered here and there. The food needs to be an even mix of hot and cold, tray passed and buffet/action station. Have 2 small bars on opposite sides of the space, rather than 1 big bar. Have seating areas or lounges around for guests to get comfortable and to come and go. After 2 hours, the food takes a break and then you have desserts out. Sure, it's not a traditional sit-down dinner reception...but it's still a wedding! There will be lots going on - go with it, trust your local vendors and have a wonderful time. Your guests will if you do. And listen to episode 99 all about destination weddings specifically in NOLA and specifically with a cocktail-style reception! Don't worry, the bride we talked to wasn't too sold on the idea at first either. And her wedding was phenomenal! Link below: Email #1 Same Sex representation and lesbian wedding questions Ask: Another multi-part-er! (Would be perfect for a consultation!) 1. With a heterosexual wedding, the man usually waits for the woman to walk down the aisle. Both my partner and I will be wearing a beautiful dress and plan to walk down the aisle together. I have an idea in mind but I'd love to hear examples of other LGBTQ weddings and how they made the walk down the aisle special. How much time should a lesbian wedding plan in advance? Since we have extra women as part of the bridal party that means extra makeup, hair, bouquets, etc! The budget has been a bit tricker for me since rather than thinking of one dress, there are two dresses, two diamond rings, two hair dos, etc. Are there any lesbian budget templates you have come across or any tips you can give to make this process a little easier? Answer: Yowza! Christy LOVES gay weddings. You all know that by now, right? Here is a taste of the answer: Walk down the aisle any way you want. The gay couples I have worked with have all done it differently for the most part. I love a T-shape - when you two walk in towards each other, meet and then walk down the actual aisle together. Email #2 Written with a heavy heart Ask: How to honor a recently deceased loved one - in this case a groomsman..and what is the best way to set up a registry donation link in his name? Answer: I love the idea of contributing to a suicide prevention fund, but I feel like the better way to do this is through your registry. You can take a look at this website: https://www.myregistry.com/charity-registry.aspx. (there are other sites like this as well to look into) I think this way - you can say a little more about your friend by writing something about him on your wedding website, or in a post/email to guests to share your registry information before the wedding. I think it will be more successful financially if you do it this way, and I also think bringing him into the first dance may weight the event down, and make people feel sad. Feeling sad on your wedding day is not something this friend would have wanted. Email #3 “Ex-girlfriend on the guestlist? I don't want to include her!” Ask: (This one is juicy, yall.) My fiancé and I are trying to decide whether or not it's ok to exclude his ex-girlfriend from our guest list. The ex-girlfriend left my fiancé for his best friend, Tom. Tom and the ex-girlfriend are now married. My fiancé is still friends with Tom and wants to invite him to the wedding. Is it okay to invite Tom but not his wife (the ex girlfriend)? We live in a small town and see the couple out and about often. There are no bad feelings between any of us but I feel somewhat uncomfortable having the ex-girlfriend at our wedding. I also don't want to be rude. Should we just invite both of them and hope she doesn't come? Answer: You can't NOT include her! Lol. We understand why you want to, but you just can't.
