What's Been Taking the Air Out of Your Prayers? Today, Pastor Michael is talking about forgiveness and regular daily forgiveness, an essential part of any relationship that lasts. And the big part here is the relationship of forgiveness to our prayers. The main idea of the day is, “Unforgiveness takes the air out of your prayer!” If you realize there is something unforgiven between you and another, God can refuse to forgive you! Michael's “Top Six” Reasons to Forgive Someone Who Doesn't Deserve It: Jesus commands forgiveness. Forgiveness is a witness to God's grace. Forgiveness reveals your heart. Forgiveness sets you free. Forgiveness is essential to healthy relationships. Unforgiveness hinders your prayers. The person you damage most with unforgiveness is you! (CSB Study Bible Notes) 11:25 A second condition to petitions being granted is to forgive others. Standing while praying was the usual Jewish posture for public prayers (cp. Lk 18:9-14). If you have anything against anyone recalls Mt 5:23-24 (cp. Mt 18:21-35). Verses can be found in Mark 11: 25-26. A Prayer In Times Of Waiting, When God Says Wait.6 Ways to Wait for God's Answer to Your Prayers:1. Don't stop praying.David, the great shepherd-king of Israel, earned a Ph.D. in waiting on God. He wrote and sang of it often:I waited patiently for the Lord; And He inclined to me and heard my cry (Psalm 40:1, NASB).Wait for the Lord; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord (Psalm 27:14, NASB).Indeed, none of those who wait for You will be ashamed (Psalm 25:3, NASB).Who better, then, to show us how to wait on God than David and his Psalm 130? Psalm 130 is a prayer from beginning to end. David pours out his heart to God:Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord.Lord, hear my voice!Let Your ears be attentiveTo the voice of my supplications (Psalm 130:1-2, NASB).Waiting on God is not a cessation of prayer, a pause but intensification. If we are waiting on God we are, if anything, more active in prayer than we were before. 2. Examine yourself. As he waits, David's thoughts turn inward, reflecting on the status of his heart and life and reminding himself of God's fondness for forgiveness:If You, Lord, should mark iniquities,O Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with You,That You may be feared (Psalm 130:3-4, NASB).While we wait on God, we also search our own hearts to confess any sin that may hinder an answer or make any surrender that will further align us with God's plans and purpose. 3. Focus and refocus your heart, soul and mind.David doesn't spend his time twiddling his thumbs or pacing the floor; he focuses his thoughts and aligns himself with God's word:I wait for the Lord, my soul does wait,And in His word do I hope (Psalm 130:5, NASB).Waiting on God often involves reading and repeating God's word and focusing our thoughts on “what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable….[and thinking] about things that are excellent and worthy of praise” (Philippians 4:8, NLT).4. Keep your eyes and heart open and alert.Waiting on God requires a heightened attentiveness and watchfulness in which you scan your surroundings, circumstances, conversations and “coincidences” for clues and indications of God's answer on the horizon:My soul waits for the LordMore than the watchmen for the morning;Indeed, more than the watchmen for the morning (Psalm 130:6, NASB).A watchman on the walls of a city was constantly searching the horizon and scanning the landscape for movement. The soul who waits on God will be similarly alert for hints and harbingers of God at work.5. Keep trusting, reminding and hoping.Even as he waits, David reminds himself and those around him of who God is, what God has done and why they should continue to hope in Him:O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is lovingkindness,And with Him is abundant redemption (Psalm 130:7, NASB).6. Keep going.Too often when we are waiting on God—or think we are—we tense and freeze and stop progressing. But God is just as able to close doors and pathways as He is to open them. So rather than choosing inaction, we who wait on God can keep moving ahead, trusting as David did that God will guide our steps as we go:And He will redeem IsraelFrom all his iniquities (Psalm 130:8, NASB). A message about the power and value of praying. Key Bible verses: Luke 11:1; Ephesians 6:18-24; John 16:13 The post The Value of Your Prayers appeared first on St. Louis Family Church - Pastor Jeff Perry.
Saturday is review day on The Daily Promise. Every Saturday, we review this week's promises so we can allow them to go deep into our hearts and lives. Here are the promises we covered this week. John 14:3 - Jesus Will Come Again. 1 John 2:1 - Jesus is Your Advocate. James 5:16 - Your Prayers are Powerful. Hebrews 10:17 - Your Sins are Forgiven and Forgotten. Proverbs 15:8 - God Delights in your Prayers.
When You are the Answer to Your PrayersHave you ever been angry? I mean really ticked off. The kind of anger that makes you want to go western on someone or thing, or pull out the black flag and start turning over tables or mopping the floor? The kind of anger that bleeds over easily into your prayers, and you are like the Psalmist saying, “God, why don't you do something about this injustice or wrong?” Have you been there? I have. Oh, and I really hope you have because the opposite of love is not hate but indifference. I mean, when something you love or God loves is threatened, you ought to feel anger. And, as we see in the prayer book of the Bible, the place we take our anger first is to God. But what if, after praying your anger to God and pleading with him to do something, God looks back at you and says, “Why aren't you doing something?” Last week we saw the beginning of a calling to act. This week we see that Nehemiah is the answer to the prayers he prayed! I was surprised as I contemplated this, how often in the Bible the prayers of one of God's people are answered in their own humanity. I think God is still doing this, but we haven't really been listening—praying, yes; listening, well maybe not. This week we actually see this happen in the life of a man in the Secret Service to the king who is the oppressor of his people. How does that grab you? I know you are thinking, “Man, I am glad I will be on Spring Break; that might plow a bit close to the corn, as my forebears in Mississippi would say." Anyway, I hope to see you if you are not traveling; and if you are, safe travels. But even if you are away, I have a recommendation for you. Our denomination has published resources on how to aid the people in the Ukraine through strategic ministry partners we have in the area. Please take the time to look this over and see how God might be calling you to be the answer to your own prayers there. Scripture of the Day: Acts 10:4“Cornelius stared at him in fear. “What is it, Lord?” he asked. The angel answered, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God.” Your Giving Captures God's AttentionCornelius had been praying. Scripture tells us he was a believer in the God of the Hebrews. He was doing his best to help the Jewish nation and the people he was in charge of. As a Centurion, he had control, militarily, over that region. But, he was also a person who believed in prayer. And he was praying to the God of Heaven. Amen! As part of his prayer life, he would give financially to the support of the local synagogue. And he was not a cheap giver either. He wasn't just giving a pocket full of quarters in the Salvation Army bucket at Christmas time. No, he was KNOWN for being a giver. That is why, later, when the people he had sent to get Peter to come back to his home, they testified to his Faith and how much money and support he had already provided to the Jews. They were saying, basically, “This guy is for real.” But here, I want you to notice, the angel said, “Your PRAYERS have come up as a memorial before God.” (Yes, I know, I misquoted – but stick with me here, I'm making a point). Cornelius was a praying man. This is what God's attention. Does God ONLY hear the prayers of the righteous? No. He hears everyone's prayers! “Wait a minute Brother Bob, God hears everyone's prayers?” YES – absolutely! He heard your prayer when you prayed to receive Jesus as your Savior, didn't He? “Well, yes. Of course.” Well, before you prayed that prayer; before you received Jesus as your Savior, were you righteous or unrighteous? Were you still in your sin when you prayed to God? Of course! So that is proof, right there, as well as other scriptures, that says God hears the prayers of the righteous and the unrighteous. So, first and foremost, Cornelius was a man of prayer. THAT is what caught God's attention. But, Cornelius went one step further than simply praying. He put money where his mouth was, so to speak. He became such a giver, that his GIVING also caught God's attention. There is a difference between someone who prays because they know they need to pray – and someone who prays and then GIVES SACRIFICIALLY because of the prayers. In addition to the prayers. Who puts FAITH to work by sowing sacrificially into the works of God. Amen! If you want to get God's attention, it really requires you to do THREE THINGS. “Three things, brother Bob? I thought you were talking about prayer and giving here?” YES…but what needs to come first, as I've been teaching for about a month now on this program, is this… You need to spend time in God's WORD on a daily basis. For yourself! Not relying on someone else to read the Word for you and tell you what it say (hello! Like so many of you do when you fail to read the Bible or even take the Bible with you to church and only rely on your pastor to tell you what it says… Don't shout me down when I'm preaching good!) When you spend time with God – IN HIS WORD – and then spend time TALKING TO GOD in prayer and then you back up all of that with sacrificial FINANCIAL GIVING – with your prayers over the seed you are sowing – you can't help but GET GOD's ATTENTION! Amen! And we see that is what happened right here with Cornelius. What was the result? The first gentile convert to Christianity! Praise God! And it did not just bless Cornelius and him alone. It says his “whole house, family, friends and servants” were Baptized in the Holy Spirit. AMEN! The study of the Word of God doesn't only impact you… Praying on a continuous, daily – all-day long basis, doesn't impact only you… Giving, financially and sacrificially to God's work – doesn't impact only you… IT IMPACTS OTHERS ALL AROUND YOU! So, what do you need to do today? I'm so glad you
In this wilderness God provided His people with MANNA so that they wouldn't go HUNGRY. It appeared MIRACULOUSLY each MORNING: 'Everyone had just enough. Those who gathered a lot had nothing left over, and those who gathered...a little had enough. Each family had just what it needed.' Ever NOTICE there are TIMES in life when God's blessings seem to '....overtake you...?(Deuteronomy 28:2).Your PRAYERS are getting ANSWERED, the doctor's report is GOOD, the bills are PAID, your job is going GREAT and your CHILDREN are finally on the right track. When that HAPPENS REJOICE and THANK God for His GOODNESS. Then there are other TIMES when He GIVES you 'JUST ENOUGH' light to take one more STEP. That's when He's TEACHING you to TRUST Him on a daily(or sometimes hourly) basis; to test His Word and see for yourself that '...his mercies...are new every morning...' (Lamentations 3:22-23 NCV). Bottom line: God NEVER lets us GATHER tomorrow's MANNA today. The Bible says He will 'supply all your need according to his riches in glory' (Philippians 4:19). He wants you to RELY on the GIVER and not the GIFT, to trust Him to meet all your needs, and to EXPECT that He will bring GOOD THINGS out of BAD SITUATIONS. lnstead of getting STRESSED out, He wants you to '....let [all] your requests be made known to God' (Philippians 4:6 NKJV), to stop FRETTING when you are alone because He will '...never leave you nor forsake you' (Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV); to realize that no matter what LIFE THROWS at you, you NEVER have to question His LOVE because it's...everlasting...' (Jeremiah 31:3). God's servant Rev Alfred Acheampong Prayer Point: Heavenly Father, teach us to continue to depend and rely on You for life's journey, provision protection and to never doubt Your love for us knowing that you will never leave us nor forsake us in Jesus name. Scripture For Today:Philippians 1:4“In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy.”Prayer and God's Will pt 2Yesterday, we started to look at God's will in prayer. We discovered that, in First John 5:14-15, God says, “And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, he hears us; And if we know He hears us, whatsoever we ask, we KNOW that we have the petitions that we desired of Him.” We also learned that to pray, “…if it be thy will…” at the end our prayers negates the entire prayer and demonstrates unbelief on our part! God's Word is His will. If you know the Word, you know the will of God. If you know that your prayer is based on His Word – then you should know your prayer request IS the will of God. There should be no doubt. To pray, “…if it be thy will…” is telling God, the devil and your own mind “I don't really believe you will give me what I'm praying for, so this is my ‘out'!” Some people believe, let's talk about healing as an example. Some people believe that if someone prays for them to be healed, and they are healed, it must have been God's will for them to be healed. But, on the same token, they also believe that if someone prays for them to be healed, and they are not healed, it must be God's will for them NOT to be healed. Are you one of “Them?” It's amazing to me how many people profess Faith in Christ; they profess to HAVE FAITH; the profess to know the Word of God – but yet, they pray, “…if it be thy will…” as if they don't know the will of God in their situation! It's crazy! These poor Christian souls have sat under the teaching of the Word for YEARS! And someone new to the Faith comes in, reads the Word, understands that the Word of God is the will of God – and just believes what the Word of God says! Their prayers are answered and the other Christian wonders, “Why won't God answer my prayer?” It's because their prayers – YOUR PRAYERS (if you are praying “…if it be thy will…”) are based on unbelief! God is not going to answer an unbelievers prayer! Let's close with one more scripture. One I'm sure will upset some of you “traditionalists” who believe it is scriptural to pray “…if it be thy will…” Are you ready? Mark 11:23-24 says, “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.” That's pretty clear, isn't it? Unless you are one of them “traditionalists” don't believe the Bible actually says what it says… Folks, you cannot pray “…if it be thy will…” and receive your prayers as answered according to Mark 11:23-24. You cannot pray Mark 11:23-24 and end it with “…if it be thy will…” The two just do not go together. Each verse negates the other. And since you are wrong to be praying against the will of God – that means your prayers go unanswered. I'm way over time again today. So we will take it up here next time. Let's Pray! That may be one chapter (if it's a long one) or it may three or four chapters. But you need to be in the Bible each and every day. Next, PRAY. We've been teaching all month on praying on a continuous basis, all day long, about the little things in life as well as the big things. Finally, GIVE into the Kingdom of God. Amen! If you would...

Take Me Home - Pet Adoption and Animal Rescue - Pets & Animals on Pet Life Radio (PetLifeRadio.com)
Susan Daffron talks to Cynthia Farrell from Pet Haven in Minnesota about a dog named Bishop who is available for adoption. Bishop is one of those "Heinz 57" dogs who looks like he has some American Staffordshire Terrier in him, but also probably a mix of other breeds too. He is a dark blonde with a cute white stripe on his note and light tummy. Bishop is around a year old now and has been in Pet Haven's foster care program since June of 2008. When he was just 4 months old, he was rescued with a number of other dogs from a hoarding situation. Since he's been in foster care, Bishop has been through two obedience classes and the transformation in his behavior has been amazing. Bishop is a total people lover, and loves to be the center of attention. Because he's young and still a bit of a puppy, Bishop is an exuberant boy who likes nothing better than chasing tennis balls and playing. Ideally, Bishop is looking for a home where he can receive a lot of attention from an owner who wants a great canine buddy to hang out with. Although Bishop is crate trained and used to being left alone for up to a full work day, he would appreciate lunch-time outings. Bishop would also benefit from an owner who is willing to continue his obedience training. Another training class will help Bishop bond with his new family. Won't you take a leap of faith and see how perfectly wonderful Bishop might be for you?
