Coming up next in the feed is yet another live event recording, this time from the recent 2019 Gamestorm convention, held every Spring in Portland, OR. Stay tuned for more HAMMERCRAWL! As explained in the introduction, we had a bit of an echo problem in the space where we were recording. As such, these have taken an extra special amount of care while editing in order to get them to sound just right. We apologize if any irritating sound artifacts made it into the recording, we did our best to zap them all. Drop us a line! Coming at you with another awesome drunken Character Jam, the Bikers Dice and Bars crew is back with our longest episode yet. This one was just too good to split into two, so sit back and enjoy an extended romp through the random hilarity of Palladium's Nightbane Role-Playing Game! We're currently halfway through a month-long content break as we move to a brand new recording studio. This episode was recorded the night before Gamestorm 2019, and due to scheduling conflicts with his duties as convention staff, Jacob couldn't make it to the session. So we made sure to have an extra special amount of fun without him, Hah! The players decided all their characters were part of a special guerilla "Free teh Aminals!" hippy group, due to their multiple collective dysfunctions. In true Nightbane style, we all made base Nightbane OCCs, and the results were quite astounding. Our next content on the feed after this one will most likely be our special Wagoncon episode. Come join us there May 3rd-5th in The Dalles, Oregon. Most of the Breakfast Puppies crew will be there - if you're a listener, find us at the con and we'll have a pint! Finally, as mentioned in the closing of this episode, we just launched a brand new Patreon page. Intro Banter: Alex and Larry Catch up with current goings on, and discuss Kickstarter, and cold starts to the podcast! Spoken Tokens: Our interactions with you, ‘The Spoken’ our wonderful listeners! This episode we received both an answer to Alex’s query AND and wonderful topic of discussion: Hey Alex and Larry! First off, want to thank you guys for making the podcast. The board game world is not always the easiest to get up to date info on and getting insight into game design/industry workings itself is always super interesting. Listened to the latest episode and wanted to email in to say the name of the game is Crocodile Dentist...I also remember playing this as a kid and I believe my childhood would have been after both of yours' (I'm 26). Nothing like a game about removing teeth from a crocodile to span generations of children. Not sure if I'll be the first or not, but figured I'd write in. Heard about your podcast from GamePoint (which is amazing) and have been listening since. Not sure if this has been covered in an episode yet, but I'd love to hear about different methods for testing a game/mechanic that's still in design. I suppose the answer could be as simple as 'Just play it over and over', but I feel like almost everything has more depth than people would expect. Anyways, keep up the good work and thanks for all you do! Design Lab - We speak about the mechanics of game design and tackle some common issues at a really deep level. Usually speaking with an established publisher/Designer! We cover the question Sam asked us in depth! “I'd love to hear about different methods for testing a game/mechanic that's still in design.” On the table - We examine what the game is like when played, we cover components, setting, rules and the overall atmosphere. Points: Components Set-up Table presence Smoothness of play Rules learning Atmosphere Use of setting in implementation Game: Chimera Station Conventional wisdom - convention going ons. I know it's not been long since we had the monumental segment, but there are a LOT of cons going on right now, so we want to keep you up to date on these as much as possible. If you know of or are hosting/attending a Con let us know and we will cover it! Conversely if you go to one of the ones we list drop us a line to let us know about your experience! Ho-lee Heck-balls, folks, we unexpectedly got a wee bit tanked on this episode, thanks first to over-strong pours of a mixed drink we'd never had before, and then doubly again due to DXG's surprise addition of some soon-to-be-gone-forever Bridgeport beers. It's a bit of a wild ride! We had a lot of fun with this one, and despite some meandering along tangents at times, it was a joyous occasion, and we hope you enjoy listening. In our Bike Talk segment, we talk about a number of big rides coming up this month and the following, as the PNW thaw sets in and a lot of us roll out bikes back out of the garage. In our Game Talk segment, we take a deeper look at what you can expect from the upcoming Gamestorm convention here in Portland, OR. In our Bar Talk segment, we discuss the great rash of recent brewery closures here in Portland and the surrounding area, and lament the loss of some of our favorites. Finally, Xander and Linsel chime in with some additional commentary on two-player gaming, from our previous episode. And stick around for bonus silliness after the outro!Drop us a line! This episode was recorded when Keith and Andy were together for a change, since Andy is in Portland for the Gamestorm convention. They went to see Ready Player One together and spend most of this episode discussing the movie. They also talk slightly about the start of the new seasons of Legion and the Americans.SPOILER WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS
A post shared by kristine beeson (@kdlb) on Apr 7, 2018 at 8:01pm PDT Episode 106 Welcome to the Yarnings Podcast, episode 106. Recorded Saturday evening, April 6, 2018. A warm sunshiny day in the middle of Gamestorm weekend....
Andy talks about the upcoming release of Get the MacGuffin and plans for running “raffle tournaments” to promote it at AwesomeCon and GameStorm. Keith talks about how both his and Andy's games tend to be lighter, on the party end of the game design spectrum, and thus not usually well-suited for tournaments. Keith tells Andy about Hackfort, and about the JUMP Center in Boise at which the Treefort music festival was held. They talk about upcoming movies they haven't yet seen, and Keith reports on the latest session of the D&D campaign he's running. Andy talks about telling jokes during a job interview. Media discussions include Travelers, Counterpart, and the fact that there are just too many shows. Lastly they discuss Ready Player One, the book, in anticipation of the movie debut.
Andy and Patrick sat down with TJ Nelson to find out more about Gamestorming. TJ is a Sr Product Designer at Inmoment and Founder at ProductBound (productbound.co), you can find him on social media with @tarljames.

This week we have something a little different for you. During Gamestorm 18, I was part of a panel that contained members of the Pathological NerdCasters Network. I was joined by TC and Carissa of the Tattered Board Podcast, Brandon Burke of Spaghetti & Meeples, and Andrew Mayer of Level Up Design Podcast. We had some hiccups and technical difficulties with a wire short with one of the mics, but overall it came out pretty well. We had a blast chatting amongst each other and all the guests that joined us during the panel. We are working on the video from it and will have it up soon on PNCN’s YouTube Channel. So, here you go! This is part II of a two part series of my live Gamestorm Coverage 2015 with Jim and Eric of the Punching Cardboard Podcast. This is actually the precursor to our Part I. This first section was more of an editing headache for Jim so we released the round table discussion with Michael Mindes and Mike Selinkter first. Part II has a lot of different guests rotating the two guests chairs as we record. I had a blast collaborating with Jim and Eric on our first remote podcast and look forward to working with these guys on other projects in the future. Here's the list of guests in order: J. R. Ralls (Citizen George) & Robert LaCosseKnob CreekRhiannon LouveMichael Mindes (TMG Games) (First Appearance)Dave Howell (Penny Gems)Tim Eisner & Ryan Sisher (March of the Ants), Special Interviewer: Kate ReidMichael Mindes (Second Appearance)
This is Part 1 of a two part remote podcast at our local gaming convention, Gamestorm. This podcast represents two firsts for me in my short career as a podcaster. This is not only my first remote podcast, but also first time given the opportunity to collaborate with another local podcast Punching Cardboard. After a mis punch of a button and a false start, we get things rolling with a round table discussion with none other than Michael Mindes, the owner of Tasty Minstrel Games, and Mike Selinker, President of Lone Shark Games, and designer and developer of many board and RPG games over the years including Betrayal at House on the Hill and Pathfinder Adventure Card Game. The chatter in the background is from the designers reception that was going on at the same time. I hope everyone has as much fun listening to this as we did recording it.
It’s the end of the first morning here at #uxlx and we’ve got our first workshops under out belts. James took part in David Gray’s Gamestorming session whilst Per took part in Peter Morville’s Cross-Channel Strategy workshop. Here’s our initial thoughts from right after lunch… (Listening time 9 minutes)
