Think about how much your workplace has changed since March 2020: from new words in our daily vocab – pandemic, furlough, Zoom, lockdown, WFH – to the global near-panic around mass resignations. Now imagine how hard it'd be to adjust if you'd been off work since early 2020. Or how difficult it'd be to if you were home-schooling children or caring for vulnerable relatives. For many of you, it's probably not that hard to imagine. Because for working parents and carers, the impact of COVID-19 is a lasting one. Which is exactly what Lucinda Quigley, Head of Working Parents at Talking Talent, and Georgene Huang, co-founder and CEO of Fairygodboss, dig into in this week's episode. Listen to this week's episode and learn: How HR can support working parents – from clarifying government allowances to providing financial support. Why companies need to become more than a paycheque for employees – to attract younger generations and retain experienced workers. What needs to be done to create a smoother maternity or paternity transition (and why this is different under COVID-19). Why role modelling is critical to creating a truly people-first workplace culture. #DEI #Diversity #Inclusion #Equity #TalkingTalent #WorkingParents #COVID19 #Fairygodboss #WorkingCarers #HybridWork #WorkplaceCulture
With job openings at an all-time high, it’s crunch time for companies to get diversity hiring right. Women dropped out of the workforce in droves during the pandemic (almost twice the rate of men) but many won’t be coming back unless companies start treating them fairly, equitably, and as equals. The change goes beyond policies. According to the FairyGodBoss survey on diversity recruiting, 98 percent of organizations say it's a priority, but only a fraction have made significant changes. Only 1 in 4 of those same companies even has a requirement for a diverse slate of candidates. Women of color were particularly hit hard. It's also notable that some progress has been made at senior executive levels but much more work needs to be done at the front lines and even mid-management. In our casual conversation Romy shares how the idea for Fairgodboss was sparked and how she and co-founder Georgene leverage each of their skills that have resulted as of Feb 2021 to a community of over 2 million members supported by 50 staff at Fairygodboss. Kruze Consulting's Founders and Friends Podcast for Startups
Fairygodboss (https://fairygodboss.com/) founder Georgene Huang found herself pregnant and out of a job. Here’s how she created a fast-growing business helping other women level up their careers. Interviewed by Scott Orn of Kruze Consulting, a leader in startup bookkeeping. https://kruzeconsulting.com/startup-bookkeeping/
Georgene Huang never thought much about her gender and how it related to the workplace until she was fired when she was 2 months pregnant. While the firing was unrelated to the pregnancy – it was a management shakeup – it definitely made her take a look at the world differently. Rather than go back to work for another company, she launched her own with the social mission to improve the lives and workplace for women through transparency. Today, she’s turned that little startup into the largest online career community for women. Fairygodboss has raised $14 million in venture capital funding and has 4.5 million women visiting the Fairygodboss website each month for the company reviews, job postings, and community feed where they can chat and get advice. Enjoy her story and come join my very own Ready Pause Go group on Fairygodboss.
George Huang, CEO of Fairygodboss, calls-in to chat with Scott on WGN Radio. Fairygodboss offers job listings, employer profiles, anonymous employee reviews and a daily feed where users can post either anonymously or under their real names. Today, the platform is the largest online career community for women (though male allies are welcome too).

Imagine you are two months pregnant and you are let go from your job. You begin to search for jobs with decent maternity leave policies, but you notice companies are not clear on this information. What would you do knowing you have a baby on the way? Little did Georgene Huang know that this life-changing moment would allow her the opportunity to help make the workplace better for women. Partnering with Romy Newman, the two would soon found Fairygodboss, a community that provides women information about the ‘hard-to-ask’ questions when interviewing with a potential company.
