Click here to send me your Q's, comments, lovenotes, or a quick message here :) I'll be the first to admit that it irks me when people use the term "plant medicine" to refer to psychedelics, or what perhaps could be more properly termed "entheogens."First of all, half of those are isolated compounds that are created in labs (perhaps originally derived from plants, but not always) and others are derived from fungi or animal compounds. Like, they aren't even all sourced from plants. And I don't love the usurping of a name that I've been using for almost 2 decades to refer to my love of the practice of people's medicine, or herbal medicine. That said, I'll also openly acknowledge that psychedelics and entheogens have been a significant part of my path TO herbal medicine. And to healing arts overall.  And to nature connection before that. They are profound and powerful and I deeply respect them. I just think we need to be more precise about what we're talking about. Today's guest Allison Avalon shares about her relationship with entheogens and how, alongside silent meditation and foundational nutrition and lifestyle practices, they have had an immeasurable impact on healing her wombspace, jaw, and overall anxiety and depression. Her story starts in a place of deep suffering in a spiral of anxiety and depression, intense jaw clenching she'd bite into her cheeks and intense menstrual pain -- and while she was seeking answers she found powerful entheogens that changed her entire life, partly by facing death -- and what she calls "death practice."We talk about all of this and how free and relaxed the flow of energy is through her body. How she no longer has menstrual pain or jaw clenching AT ALL. It's really an inspiring and hopeful story full of so much wisdom. Listen to learn:what entheogens are and some possible ways they may support youhow "death practice" can actually help you LIVE more fullyways our wombs can support our healthy relationship with deathhow the pelvis and throat/jaw are connectedAllison's story of complete relief from her lifetime of her chronic jaw clenchingthe surprising way releasing jaw tension was mirrored in her pelvisthe power of intentional entheogenic practicehow silent meditation can support integrationan example of how the foundational pillars of health are essential in healing Resources:Today's shownotes: Links to the Entheogem retreats + Allison's offeringsEpisode 10: Traditional womb healing practices w Sondra HamiltonEpisode 27: Sex + Psychedelics with Juliana Rose GoldstoneEpisode 61: Pelvic wisdom + healing trauma w Dr Emily WilsonEpisode 77: Myofascial release for pelvic bowl w Lindsay CourcelleFree offering: Womb connection + clearing meditationIf you loved this episode, share it with a friend, or take a screenshot and share on social media and tag me @herbalwombwisdom.  And if you love this podcast, leave a rating & write a review! We will touch on such topics as: What are the marketing perspectives that you should follow in order to keep up with time?  How do we keep track of where our patients are coming from?  If you have to wait for a little while, make it work where you extend your hours because the last thing that you want is to feel like you are struggling constantly, which is what we felt.  You have to keep learning.  If you don't study where your patients are coming from, then you are really shooting in the dark, and you can really go downhill and waste a lot of time and money aiming in the dark.  You need to have a target and you have to track it. Think you just have to deal with your pelvic pain?   Think again.   Listen in as Dr. Jessica Drummond reveals how her story led her to integrate lifestyle medicine, movement, physical therapy and nutrition for treating a wide variety of women's health concerns.   Dr. Jessica Drummond, DCN, CNS, PT, NBC-HWC Founder and CEO of the Integrative Women’s Health Institute is passionate about caring for and empowering women who struggle with women’s and pelvic health conditions. She is equally passionate about educating and supporting clinicians in confidently and safely using integrative tools to transform women’s and pelvic healthcare.   Having two decades of experience in women’s and pelvic health as a physical therapist and functional nutritionist, plus owning a private women’s health clinical nutrition and coaching practice, gives her a unique perspective on the integrative, conservative options for pelvic pain management, hormone balance, preconception and fertility support, postpartum recovery, and chronic pain and fatigue management in active and athletic women.   She regularly lectures on topics such as integrative pelvic pain management, natural fertility options, optimal hormone health, female athletes, and functional and integrative nutrition for rehabilitation, nutrition, wellness, fitness, and medical professionals.   Dr. Drummond was educated at the University of Virginia, Emory University, Duke Integrative Medicine, and Maryland University of Integrative Health.   In this episode, we dive into:   Is pelvic and sexual pain common for women? What are common times in a woman's life when this pain can be more of an issue?   What are some of the most common causes of pelvic pain?   What an integrative approach to healing looks like and how it helps women who suffer from period pain, endometriosis, vaginismus, [07:44] Vulvodynia, painful sex, and other issues.   Simple first steps you can take to move toward healing, and understanding what things can support pelvic floor health, and how to find practitioners to support you to finding the root cause of your issue.    "Anytime you're thinking you have pelvic pain, number one, it's not normal. Don't let people dismiss you. There are answers and you don't have to wait seven years. You can plow through and keep advocating for yourself and know that it's a team approach and it probably will require you to prioritize your health and that's going to be the hardest thing. Allow yourself to receive support, allow yourself to integrate self-care in your life. And those really are the two most challenging things for my patients. Once you are willing to do those things, help is available.  “  - Dr. Jessica Drummond   (Books recommended in this episode: https://www.amazon.com/Heal-Pelvic-Pain-Amy-Stein/dp/0071546561/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1213044770&sr=8-1   Heal Pelvic Pain by Amy Stein,    Tammy Lynn Kent, Wild Feminine http://www.wildfeminine.com/wild-feminine-book/
