Make America Healthy Again? Have we ever been healthy? I've been in the health field for thirty-five years. In all that time, I had never heard a news media report on red dyes in food. For the first time, I'm encouraged by the future of our American food system! For me, this is not a political issue. I truly want to give people the same opportunities that I have. I know how to read labels and avoid cancer-causing ingredients in my food. Most people don't. Americans are starting to question our food manufacturers. That's a big first step in eliminating harmful ingredients from food (many of which have been banned in Europe for decades). Today's podcast, with MAHA advocate and activist Kelly Ryerson, made me sad and mad. Kelly (Glyphosate Girl) discussed the damage glyphosate (the active ingredient in Roundup) does to our environment and bodies. Kelly has spent years in the trenches explaining why this chemical is so dangerous to anyone who would listen. It's such an easy default to use a heavy chemical load to kill weeks. Did you know there are simple alternatives to using such a large amount of chemicals in farming? Kelly also explained that while this product is sold in Europe, the company that makes Roundup has created a less toxic alternative for sale in Europe. This, to me, is mind-blowing! If they can make a less harmful version that still works for Europe, can't one be made for the US as well? ____ Toups and Co It's happened...I'm putting beef tallow on my face, and my skin looks lush, and it doesn't smell like a hamburger :) I've seen the TikTok videos about beef tallow. I avoided trying it because it sounded like I'd be putting grease on my face. Enough people asked me about it, so I started reading more information and trying out various tallows. There was one company that stood out to me. I feel like I hit a home run with the brand Toups and Co. I first heard of this brand on a friend's podcast (Holistic Hilda with the Weston A Price Foundation). She interviewed the founder, Emily Toups. She was a mom looking for a solution to her child's skin issues. She was frustrated with the lack of progress with drugstore and prescription meds, so she reached out to a local farmer for tallow. The rest, as they say, is history. Her daughter is healed, and my skin looks great, haha! Thank you, Toups Family, for making such excellent products and offering my community a 15% discount. I'm currently using: Frankincense Skim Balm Blue Tansy Body Oil The Nourishing Skin Care Set (this includes skin balm, body oil, tinted lip chap, and a tallow bar—and it's on sale!). I saw a video recently from Dr Mark Hyman, the most well known name in Functional Medicine. He was struggling with an aspect of his health, took a test and found he was missing a vital bacteria in his gut called akkermansia. He found no available supplement that provided it so he went to work doing the best he could with a mix of different foods. He was able to improve his levels. However the video I saw was with him and the founder of a biotech company, Pendulum, who is now providing the first akkermansia supplement. I right away asked my friend and doctor, Randy James about this, and he said yes, it's an exciting new product. So, I'm now taking it. On this show then, I've brought on Pendulum's Chief Medical Officer, Dr Adam Perlman. I've known of Dr Perlman before from his work as Director of Integrative Health and Wellbeing at Mayo Clinic, Florida, and as Associate Vice President for Health and Wellness for the Duke University Health System, overseeing Duke Integrative Medicine and the Duke Diet Center. I started off curious about Adam's personal health journey that led him from working as a medical doctor in traditional medicine to a functional and integrative medicine focus. We hit on some key issues around wellness in America, then I quizzed him about some new supplements that actress Halle Berry is saying are her anchors for health, and doctors I follow and respect like Mark Hyman and Peter Attia are attesting to. Along with my focus on akkermansia, Pendulum also has a GLP-1 probiotic that is having significant results with abating hunger, instead of the new pharma options. We actually didn't spend too much time on it but they are running ads for it on the show. As part of this show, Pendulum is offering 20% off your first probiotic membership, you can get it by ordering it at pendulumlife.com/drivesyou Sign up for a $1/month trial period at shopify.com/kevin Go to shipstation.com and use code KEVIN to sign up for your FREE 60-day trial. This podcast made me both sad and MAD. I interviewed Glyphosate Girl, Kelly Ryerson about the damage glyphosate (the active ingredient in Roundup) does to our environment and our bodies. Kelly Ryerson has spent years in the trenches explaining to anyone who would listen why this chemical is so dangerous. It's such an easy default to just use a heavy load of chemicals to kill weeks. Did you know that there are simple alternatives to using such a large amount of chemicals in farming? Kelly also explained to me that while this product is sold in Europe, the company that makes Roundup has created a less toxic alternative for sale in Europe. This to me is mind-blowing! If they can make a less toxic version for Europe that still works, can't one be made for the US as well? Kelly Ryerson works at the intersection of agriculture and health. She regularly collaborates with farmers, scientists, policymakers, and media to address agrochemical damage to our soil and bodies. She also started the news site Glyphosate Facts, which explains the link between chemical agriculture and the explosion in chronic disease. Kelly has contributed to several documentaries and news publications, co-hosts the morning show on CHDtv, and is a frequent podcast speaker. She is an Ambassador for The Rodale Institute. I was SHOCKED to hear that when I buy frozen fish, it's frozen TWICE. It's usually frozen right after being caught, defrosted, processed, and then frozen again. I buy a lot of frozen fish; sometimes, the taste and texture can be inconsistent. Now that I have a better understanding of the processing of the fish before it hits my plate, it makes me wonder about quality. I called a friend who works at ButcherBox and asked her about the process with their salmon. She assured me that BB only freezes the fish ONCE! Which helps preserve the nutrients and taste. The big one for me is texture. When I eat fish, I want a firm texture, not rubbery! After getting over my shock (yes, fooled again by the food corporations) I asked my BB friend if I could pretty-please offer free salmon to my community. She said yes, so if you use the code ENOS, you can get free salmon (2 pounds) free for a year and $20 off of your first box. https://www.butcherbox.com/enos --- Did you know that GUM floss is PFAS free? PFAS is a forever chemical that many top brands include in their floss, and that's the last thing I want in my mouth! GUM is available at major retailers, including Costco, making it easy to change your brush every three months as the dentist recommends. Happy brushing!

It is not surprising to find glyphosate in our bodies because it is basically everywhere. It is in the food we eat, the water we drink, the rain that falls on our roofs, and the air we breathe. Despite its rampant use, it is a poison that slowly kills us and must be eliminated from our bodies, and it all begins by getting rid of glyphosate from the soil. Joining Corinna Bellizzi is the Glyphosate Girl, Kelly Ryerson. She talks about the work needed to improve soil health by encouraging farmers to stop depending on poisonous chemicals and shift to organic agriculture. Kelly explains how glyphosate leads to anxiety, depression, and ADHD, which mainly affect children. She also talks about her documentary film and how she uses it to push the conversation about this crucial matter towards the mainstream. I love using Bison! It's very nutrient dense and contains conjugated linoleic acid (I know, what the heck does that mean?), which means Bison has anti-inflammatory properties. Here are the other reasons why I love using Bison in place of ground beef: Higher amounts of omega three fatty acids. More b12, zinc, iron, and selenium than beef. Some studies show it's got four times the vitamin E compared to beef. Lower in calories and cholesterol. It is lower fat, so it will cook faster than ground beef. Are you feeling overwhelmed and stressed out all the time? Are you having a hard time focusing on anything or feeling depressed? Are you feeling like you'll end up burning out if you don't take care of yourself?"The body is always communicating with us, sending signals and signs, much like the car dashboard lights can communicate when things are awry or something's low and it alerts you."April Likins is a board-certified health coach, trained at both Duke Integrative Medicine and the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. Driven by her own experience hitting burnout, which led to a health collapse, she's fiercely passionate about helping women thrive inside and out. April's specialty is helping professional women and female entrepreneurs reduce stress, find balance, and feel the joy and freedom to walk in their purpose, passions, and callings. In 2013, April hit burnout after her dad passed away. She had been working excessively and not taking care of herself and it led to a complete health collapse. April was bedridden for about a year and a half and saw dozens of doctors and specialists to figure out what was wrong with her. She realized that she had been using work as a coping mechanism to avoid her feelings and that this had weakened her immune system and set her up for burnout. April now works with clients to help them prevent burnout by checking in with themselves regularly and listening to their bodies. She also advises them to set healthy boundaries around work and ensure they get enough sleep. In this episode, you will learn the following:1. The importance of regular check-ins with oneself to identify needs for physical and emotional health2. The need to set healthy boundaries around work in order to prevent burnout3. “Find your joy again. It doesn't have to be necessarily what you were doing before.” – Kimberly Quirk What happens when you have a chronic illness — and you're an entrepreneur and mom? How do you make it work? Today I'm talking with Kimberly Quirk, FLOW365 member and Live Well Health Founder. Her passion for working with her health coaching clients stems from her own chronic illness. Listening to your body is important for all of us, but especially so when you are dealing with chronic illness. That can be hard when you are exhausted, taking care of kids, trying to work, and taking care of all the other stuff. But if you don't listen, your body will get louder. Kimberly shares the progress she's made and the power of finding your joy again. Overwhelm is real, so small wins really matter. Kimberly offers hope and practical support to people living with chronic illness. We talk about: The power of rest and why we should stop thinking of rest as lazy The sleuthing that is needed to find answers when it comes to chronic illness How food can make a difference Kimberly shares that her experience in FLOW has helped her: Balance the different parts of her life by rethinking time Feeling more purpose and meaning Feel accountable This is part of a series where we will be highlighting the work of some FLOW365ers. I ask each one, what are three pieces of advice from your expertise that you know will serve the Plan SImple audience. Because they know the process so well and are part of the audience, their pieces of advice are so valuable! Kimberly's three pieces of wisdom: LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. Our bodies hold a lot of wisdom, but we don't always listen. Whether you have chronic illness or not, listen to what your body is telling you. Do you need rest? Is the food you are eating not serving you? Is something “off”? That's a sign to make a change. NOTICE WHAT BRINGS JOY. Kimberly reminds us that what brings joy may not be what it was before. What is bringing you joy now? Remember, it doesn't have to be something big—it could be doggie kisses or the sun on your face or a favorite song coming on. Notice what brings joy and seek more of that. BE A FOOD SLEUTH. One thing that can make a big difference in our health, our energy, and even our mood, is food. You could try an elimination diet to see how you do off different foods. You could also just start by noticing how you feel after eating certain foods. Are there foods that make you sleepy, antsy, achy …? What happens if you don't eat that food? Get curious. Anissa shares her journey of being rocked by the physical and emotional changes that perimenopause and menopause brought, how she took agency over her own health during and post menopause, and her mission to help other women do the same. “When I was 45, I was in perimenopause which is really the most critical time for a woman because that's when a lot of things can happen to your hormones. Your estrogen levels can just start rollercoastering and your progesterone, which balances out or offsets estrogen, can stay flat and you can imagine that that can really cause havoc.” “I really wanted to understand what we could do as women with our lifestyle — not medications, but more about how we could change our lifestyle to help us mitigate some of these impacts that we see.”“When women hit menopause, they lose the ability to utilize carbs the same way.”“Lifestyle can control for about 80% of chronic conditions. The CDC says that. That's not just you and me making up statistics.” “It's not necessarily an easy thing to make a life shift but it's baby steps. You don't have to be perfect on day 1. You just have to start making some changes and you'll start to feel better and then you'll want to make more changes. It's that simple."Listen to the SuperAge podcast wherever you get your pods.
