Andrew sits down with Robert Prüst, a Netherlands-based Microsoft MVP, to geek out about Pester, AI-assisted coding, and the power of showing your work in the PowerShell community. Robert breaks down how Pester works as a testing framework (unit testing, integration testing, and mocking) and explains why testing is the key to trusting AI-generated code. They also dig into a Visual Studio Code extension Robert built for Azure DevOps, the conference culture around PSConf EU, and why community involvement matters as much as technical skill. The conversation wraps with some honest takes on imposter syndrome, learning in public, and the value of just getting started. Key Takeaways: Pester isn't just for unit testing your functions -- it scales all the way up to testing live infrastructure, validating Azure environments, and serving as the backbone of security tools like Maester. The more you invest in it, the more useful it gets. AI-generated code needs a safety net, and Pester is exactly that. Testing gives sysadmins a way to verify what the code is actually doing, which is especially critical when you didn't write it yourself. Imposter syndrome is almost universal in this community, and the people who feel it most are often the ones learning the most. Getting into community spaces -- online or in person -- is one of the fastest ways to grow. Guest Bio: Robert Prüst is a Microsoft MVP and MCT based in the Netherlands, focused on PowerShell, Azure automation, and DevOps. He has around 24 years of professional IT experience and has been working with PowerShell since roughly 2012. Robert is a regular speaker at PSConf EU, blogs at powershellpr0mpt.com, and is active on GitHub under the handle powershellpr0mpt. Danny is an independent researcher. He is the founder of Code of Reality (COR), an interdisciplinary initiative that explores what he calls Cognitive Physics: the fertile territory where mind and matter meet. He is essentially asking, "what is the physics of cognition?". COR convenes scientists, philosophers, technologists, and indigenous wisdom-keepers in collaborative investigations designed to blur the line between observer and observed. By fostering dialogue across disciplines normally siloed from one another, COR serves as both a research hub and a cultural bridge, advancing a holistic science of consciousness that can thrive alongside mainstream physics. Ken Swartz, aka “Ken the Scientist," joins me today to talk about oxidative stress, mitochondrial efficiency, and Carbon 60, also known as C60. Ways in which oxidative stress can damage the body: Rips holes in cell membranes Prevents proteins from folding properly Damages cellular blueprints (DNA and RNA) Ken Swartz Bio: Ken Swartz, aka “Ken the Scientist,” is the founder and Chief Science Officer of C60 Purple Power, a health and wellness company committed to delivering the highest quality Carbon 60 products available. Ken earned a Master of Science degree from the University of Colorado at Denver and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Arizona State University. He spent the early part of his career as a secondary school teacher, and he continues to be passionate about helping and educating people. Ken has run several research science laboratories over the course of his career and discovered C60 while developing the MOXY fusion reactor. During his research, he became aware of the powerful free radical neutralizing properties of C60. He first began using C60 as a radiation protectant while leading a fusion research project. He noticed, after taking C60 for a couple of months, that not only was it protecting him from radiation, but he discovered that his health was also improving. So, he continued taking it. About eight months after Ken started taking C60, he was at a routine visit with his optometrist and discovered that his *dry Macular Degeneration was gone. His doctor was dumbfounded and told him that in all his years, he had never seen such an improvement. Due to this healing experience, Ken decided to dedicate himself to the research, study, and production of C60 Buckminster Fullerenes. In 2016, Ken founded C60 Purple Power which offers 99.99% pure sublimated Carbon 60, (never exposed to solvents), delivered in 100% certified organic oils, made in the USA. Ken believes that “your health is your responsibility” and he is on a mission to help people feel empowered to take control of their health. *However, disclaimer here, these statements and products have not been approved by the Food & Drug Administration. What if the food you eat could make you smarter, sharper, and more energized? In Episode 290 of the Moonshots Podcast, Mike and Mark dive into The Bulletproof Diet by biohacker and entrepreneur Dave Asprey. Together they challenge common diet myths, explore the science behind fasting, discuss the rise of Bulletproof Coffee, and examine how inflammation impacts performance, energy, and longevity. This episode is not about chasing the perfect diet. It's about discovering how nutrition can become a practical tool for better thinking, deeper focus, and sustainable wellbeing. Whether you're curious about intermittent fasting, optimizing your morning routine, or simply improving your relationship with food, this conversation offers practical insights you can start applying immediately.Buy The Bulletproof Diet:https://geni.us/FQVMdjDLearn more:https://www.moonshots.ioYouTube Channel:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGqs7VdIufLYNWnzZYuVaTAKey ThemesThe role of willpower in sustainable health habitsCommon myths and misconceptions about dietingBiohacking as a framework for personal optimizationThe impact of inflammation on health and performanceIntermittent fasting and metabolic flexibilityBulletproof Coffee and cognitive performancePersonalized nutrition versus one-size-fits-all dietsHealth as a vehicle for achievement and fulfillmentConcepts & BreakthroughsChallenging Diet MythsThe episode opens by examining some of the most persistent misconceptions about nutrition. Ideas such as "fat makes you fat," "skipping breakfast is unhealthy," or "healthy eating is always expensive" often survive because they are simple, not because they are accurate.Dave Asprey encourages listeners to question assumptions and focus on experimentation. The most effective dietary strategy is often the one that aligns with your unique biology, lifestyle, and goals.Biohacking Your EnergyAt the heart of Asprey's philosophy is biohacking—the practice of systematically improving physical and mental performance through observation and experimentation.Rather than accepting fatigue, brain fog, or poor energy as inevitable, biohacking asks a simple question:What small change could improve how I feel today? This mindset turns health into an ongoing process of discovery rather than a rigid set of rules. The Inflammation ConnectionOne of the most important insights discussed is the relationship between diet and inflammation. Many modern foods contribute to chronic low-grade inflammation, which can manifest as fatigue, digestive discomfort, reduced cognitive performance, and long-term health challenges.By focusing on higher-quality foods and reducing inflammatory triggers, listeners can create an environment where their bodies and minds perform more effectively.Fasting for FocusFasting is often viewed solely as a weight-loss tool, but the episode explores its broader benefits.Strategic fasting may help:Improve mental clarityIncrease focusEnhance metabolic flexibilityReduce reliance on constant food intakeMike and Mark discuss how many people discover that delaying breakfast can provide a surprising boost in productivity and concentration during the morning hours.Bulletproof CoffeeOne of Dave Asprey's most recognizable contributions is Bulletproof Coffee—a combination of coffee, healthy fats, and MCT oil designed to support sustained energy. The concept challenges traditional breakfast habits by providing fuel without triggering the energy crashes often associated with carbohydrate-heavy meals.Whether listeners adopt the practice or not, the larger lesson is to think intentionally about how morning nutrition affects cognitive performance.Health as a Means to an EndPerhaps the most powerful idea in the episode is that health is not the destination.Health is the vehicle. The purpose of eating well, sleeping better, exercising, and managing energy is not simply to achieve perfect health metrics.
Sabrina Gonzalez Pasterski is a first-generation Cuban-American theoretical physicist from Chicago whose life has been shaped by flight and physics. She began flight lessons at age nine and, between ages 12 and 14, built a single-engine Zenith CH 601 XL aircraft from a kit, making her own engineering modifications after fatal midair breakups involving the model. At 16, before she had a driver's license, she flew the aircraft solo. The FAA later allowed her demonstration flight to validate her modifications before grounding the fleet. At MIT, Pasterski became the first freshman selected for NASA's January Operational Internship, received the inaugural MIT Freshman Entrepreneurship Award, interned at NASA Kennedy Space Center and CERN, and graduated first in her MIT Physics class. She earned her PhD from Harvard in 2019 under Andrew Strominger, focusing on quantum gravity, then joined Canada's Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics at 27 as its youngest faculty member and one of only three women on staff at the time. She now leads the Celestial Holography Initiative, and her honors include Scientific American's 30 Under 30, Forbes 30 Under 30 in Science, and the Albert Einstein Foundation's “100 Greatest Innovators.” Shawn Ryan Show Sponsors: Live better longer with BUBS Naturals. I used to weigh 300 pounds. I tried every restrictive diet, became a vegan, and trained 90 minutes a day for 18 months with absolute zero results. Everything changed when I drank a cup of yak butter tea at 18,300 feet in Tibet. Within 30 seconds, my severe brain fog lifted, and my metabolism completely shifted. In this video, I break down exactly why adding sugar to your morning coffee is destroying your metabolism, spiking your insulin, and keeping you fat. I explain the hard science behind the alternative: blending "fat cubes" (grass-fed butter) and MCT oil into your coffee. I reveal how this specific combination of butyrate, CLA, and medium-chain triglycerides bypasses traditional digestion to go straight to your liver, instantly converting into ketones for pure brain fuel. You'll learn how eating more fat actually trains your body to burn its own stored fat, allowing me to hit 4.8% body fat at 50 years old with a biological age in my 30s—without hunger, without a 3 PM crash, and without living in the gym.Thank you to our sponsors!Suppgrade Labs | Grab your DAKE and Minerals 101 duo at shopsuppgradelabs.com and use code DAVEPOD for 15% off todayViome | Check it out at viome.com and use code 10DAVE for 10% off. What you resist really does persist… and the anxiety-avoidance cycle can keep you trapped in a small life for years. If you avoid social situations, difficult conversations, travel, dating, decision-making, presentations, or anything that makes you anxious, this episode is for you. Avoidance is one of the most common coping mechanisms people use for anxiety… but it's also one of the biggest reasons anxiety continues to grow. And the problem with avoidance is you can't stop thinking about something that you're trying to avoid. In today's episode, we're unpacking the psychology of avoidance and how it ultimately reinforces fear, shrinks your comfort zone, and keeps you stuck. Tune in if you want to learn how to face your fears, build confidence in your ability to deal with stress, and live a more expansive life. We cover: Why avoidance is one of the most common coping strategies The anxiety-avoidance cycle and how it feeds anxiety Why avoiding difficult conversations creates more stress than just having them Internal avoidance: avoiding thoughts, uncertainty, decisions, and emotions How avoidance can shrink your world and limit your opportunities How Metacognitive Therapy approaches anxiety and avoidance Building tolerance for uncertainty and discomfort Using gradual exposure: the "fear ladder" Prompts to change how you think about your anxiety The Fear List exercise that helped me get unstuck If you've been feeling trapped by anxiety, fear, and avoidance, this episode is your reminder that discomfort is not dangerous… and life usually expands on the other side of the things we're afraid of. What if the most powerful tool for mental health recovery isn't a medication — it's your metabolism? Dr. Erin Louise Bellamy joins Dr. Vera Tarman for a deep dive into ketogenic metabolic therapy: what it is, how it works, and why it may be one of the most underutilized interventions in both psychiatric care and food addiction recovery. Dr. Bellamy is a chartered psychologist, CEO of IKRT (International Ketogenic Research & Therapy), and a research fellow at the University of East London. She has been researching and applying ketogenic metabolic therapy in clinical settings since 2014, with a background that bridges eating disorders, psychiatric research, and metabolic health. In this episode, Vera and Erin discuss: How Erin went from eating disorder and alexithymia research to ketogenic metabolic psychiatry — and why the field's "biopsychosocial" model was missing the bio The difference between metabolic psychiatry, ketogenic therapy, and therapeutic carbohydrate restriction — and why the terminology matters What carbohydrate range actually produces therapeutic ketosis (and why "dirty keto" doesn't cut it) The shared mechanistic pathways across psychiatric diagnoses — including mitochondrial dysfunction, insulin resistance, and neuroinflammation Why antipsychotic medications create metabolic dysfunction, and how ketogenic therapy can help offset those side effects The GABA/glutamate shift that makes ketones naturally anxiolytic — and why this may work differently than the serotonin model of depression The "buffer effect": what it feels like to be in ketosis when you're a food addict — and why some people describe it as a pane of glass between themselves and a trigger food How ketogenic therapy compares to GLP-1 medications (Ozempic/Wegovy) for reducing food noise — and Erin's concerns about the long-term research MCT oil vs. exogenous ketones: when each is useful, and when exogenous ketones are counterproductive Applying ketogenic therapy to people with ADHD, bipolar disorder, and co-occurring food addiction How to support vegan or plant-based clients who want to pursue ketogenic therapy Why the first week matters most — and how to help clients through withdrawal without triggering a binge The 19-person IKRT group program published in Frontiers — and what's coming next in the research Connect with Dr. Erin Bellamy:
What do you do when the medical system you were trained to trust can't save your own daughter? That's the question Dr. Aaron Hartman ran into the day he met his foster daughter Anna. She came into the world facing more than her share of challenges, and doctors told the Hartmans she wouldn't walk, talk, or crawl. When the standard recommendation came down to a feeding tube and a string of surgeries, Aaron and his wife said no. They were reported to Child Protective Services for wanting to feed their daughter food instead.Anna is now 20, and she walks and talks just fine. Her story rebuilt her father's entire approach to medicine. Aaron sits down with Chris to talk about what he's learned along the way and the role healthy fats play in healing the brain. You can stack every supplement, peptide, and biohack out there. It still won't fix the one thing wearing most of us down faster than any of it: unresolved stress and trauma.Dr. Bhargav Patel has spent his career studying how that wear and tear shows up in the brain, the body, and the lifespan, none of which a standard lab test will flag. He's one of the few doctors who treat the mind as part of the body rather than something separate from it.He walks us through the framework behind trauma recovery, why SSRIs work for reasons most people get wrong, and how processing trauma can hit 75% recovery rates. AI in healthcare comes up, too, along with why hallucinations are baked into every LLM and just how wide the mental health access gap is in the U.S."Supplements aren't the core of your longevity regimen. Chris Bayless is a former Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Special Agent who spent more than three decades working some of the most dangerous undercover investigations in the United States. An original member of ATF's Enhanced Undercover Program beginning in 2000, Bayless spent years infiltrating violent outlaw motorcycle gangs including the Outlaws, Grim Reapers, and organizations connected to the Hell's Angels, helping build major federal RICO prosecutions against organized criminal enterprises. Raised in a suburb of Chicago by two school teachers, Bayless was influenced early by mentors in law enforcement who shaped his path toward public service. After attending Manchester University in Indiana, where he studied Environmental Studies and Criminal Justice, he joined the ATF in 1987 in the Chicago Field Division. Throughout his career, Bayless worked major federal operations targeting violent crime in cities such as St. Louis, Oakland, Phoenix, Cleveland, and Albuquerque. His undercover work placed him deep inside biker gangs and other criminal networks, requiring years of operating under assumed identities in high-risk environments. Beyond investigations, Bayless served in the ATF Peer Support Program, helping fellow agents process trauma following critical incidents, including the aftermath of Waco. After decades of operating in violent environments and living in constant hypervigilance, he was eventually diagnosed with PTSD near the end of his career. Today, Bayless teaches at the ATF Academy, helping train the next generation of agents while reflecting on lessons from his career about trauma, resilience, faith, and redemption. Outside of law enforcement, he spends time restoring WWII Army Willys Jeeps and navigating life after decades of undercover work. 74% of American adults are overweight. 42% are clinically obese. And almost every one of them can list the foods they shouldn't be eating. So, what's actually going on?That's what started bugging Matty Lansdown when he was working as a cancer researcher and noticed something weird: 80% of the patients walking through the door were overweight, and every one of them already knew their diet was a mess. Knowing clearly wasn't the problem, but something was. That something pulled him out of the lab and into a completely different career.Today, Matty unpacks why diets keep failing people over and over, how the stuff that happens to us as kids shows up later as the food we can't put down, and why there's a little rebel inside all of us that will burn down anything good unless we give it somewhere to play. "Food is often used as a distraction or a suppressant, to be able to avoid feeling feelings that are heavy that we don't know what to do with." ~ Matty LansdownSupport the show and get 50% off MCT oil with free shipping—just leave us a review on iTunes and Spotify and let us know! https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/live-beyond-the-norms/id1714886566Resources MentionedThe Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk: https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/313183/the-body-keeps-the-score-by-bessel-van-der-kolk-md/ The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks: https://www.amazon.com/Big-Leap-Conquer-Hidden-Level/dp/0061735361About Matty LansdownMatty Lansdown is a scientist, nutritionist, and emotional and binge eating coach with over 10 years of experience. You run every test your doctor orders. They all come back fine. But fine compared to who? Compared to the average person, that's anything but healthy. That's the problem Jeffrey Gaal has spent decades thinking about. Through his work at Genetic LifeSpan, he's leading the charge to move people away from outdated benchmarks and into a new era of testing that shows what's happening inside the cell.Jeffrey walks us through the AgeCode test, which combines genetic predisposition, methylation epigenetics, and intracellular micronutrient data into a 120-page report covering biological age, pace of aging, and 11 key organ systems. The conversation digs into why a vitamin D reading of 95 can still mean you're critically low at the cellular level, why most of modern medicine is sick care wearing a healthcare label, and why discernment is the greatest gift any of us has."We don't have a healthcare system. It's Mental Health Awareness Month — and while we've covered emotional and mental wellbeing a lot on the podcast, we've never explored complex mental health disorders and how to navigate them. Our culture talks endlessly about therapy, but I don't see enough conversations about how to help those struggling with severe mental illness. Because it doesn't always look like venting to your therapist and unpacking childhood trauma. For many people, the issue isn't a lack of self-awareness or needing to dive deeper into their feelings. It's a lack of tools to manage what's happening in real time. So, whether you're struggling with a mental health condition, or this is impacting someone you care about, we're deepening our understanding of personality disorders like Narcissism and Borderline Personality Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, and the tools that can help people who are really struggling. With the help of Dr. Suzanne Wallach, we explore how approaches like Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) can shift the focus from why you feel this way to what you do when you feel this way so you have concrete skills, like emotional regulation and distress tolerance — even when you're triggered. Dr. Wallach is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California with a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology and Doctorate in Psychology. She's a Dialectical Behaviour Therapy expert who works with personality disorders like Borderline, substance abuse and addiction, eating disorders, and complex trauma. She's been on podcasts like Call Her Daddy, and is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to treating complex conditions with compassion and skills-based techniques. Tune in to learn: The truth about Narcissistic Personality Disorder and the trauma that leads to it Signs you might be dating a narcissist Understanding Borderline Personality Disorder How to be in relationship with people who have personality disorders The difference between Type 1 and Type 2 Bipolar Disorder When medication is needed, and the different modalities that can help How Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) offers real-world tools for people with mental disorders Why sequencing and developing distress tolerance in therapy matters more than most people realize When to do psychodynamic/psychoanalytic therapy VS behavioural techniques The difference between between DBT, CBT, and MCT If you've ever felt like talk therapy made you more self-aware but didn't actually change your destructive patterns or improve a mental disorder, this episode might help with a new approach. Wherever you are in your mental health journey, know that you are not alone, and there's life-changing help available. Most people think aging is something that happens to them. Jean Titus thinks that's the first mistake.Growing up in Liberia, Jean lost his mother to cancer, left a finance career that paid well but meant nothing, and spent years quietly rebuilding himself from the ground up. By the time a candid beach photo his daughter took went viral with 40,000 likes, he had already done the work. The audience just caught up.Jean gets into the mindset that separates people who actually change from people who stay stuck, why chasing money and status is the path of least resistance, and the three things he does every single day to stay sharp, lean, and purposeful well into the years most people start to coast."No one owes you an opportunity. Can a ketogenic diet affect your thyroid? What about bone health, uric acid, cannabis use, or ketone supplements? In this Metabolic Mailbag episode, Dr. Bret Scher and Dr. Georgia Ede answer your most pressing questions about ketogenic therapy and how it interacts with real-world health concerns. From thyroid function to mental health, this conversation highlights how nuanced and individualized metabolic therapies can be.You'll learn:How ketogenic diets influence thyroid hormones, and why lower T3 doesn't necessarily mean hypothyroidismWhen to monitor thyroid function more closely, especially with pre-existing conditions or medications like lithiumWhat the evidence says about protein intake, uric acid, and bone healthWhy temporary changes during the adaptation phase (like uric acid fluctuations) may not reflect long-term outcomesHow cannabis use may affect appetite, cravings, and adherence to a ketogenic dietWhether exogenous ketones and MCT oil provide the same benefits as nutritional ketosisDr. Ede also shares a key principle: context matters. Lab values, symptoms, and individual biology all need to be considered together, especially when using ketogenic therapy for mental health or metabolic conditions. The key takeaway: ketogenic therapy is not one-size-fits-all. It's a dynamic, personalized approach that often requires thoughtful monitoring, adjustments, and collaboration with a knowledgeable clinician.

Louisa Nicola is a neurophysiologist, performance specialist, and founder of Neuro Athletics, a company focused on brain optimization and neurophysiology for elite performers. A former professional triathlete, Nicola's early career in endurance sport shaped her belief that peak performance is driven as much by the brain as by the body. Her transition from elite competition to neuroscience was fueled by a desire to understand the neurological foundations of reaction time, resilience, recovery, and long-term cognitive health. Through Neuro Athletics, she works with professional athletes, sports organizations, executives, and high performers to implement measurable brain-based training protocols. Her work includes cognitive performance testing, visual processing and reaction training, nervous system regulation, and concussion recovery strategies. Nicola emphasizes objective brain metrics over subjective feedback, bringing scientific rigor to performance optimization. She is also the host of The Neuro Experience podcast, where she interviews leading neuroscientists, physicians, and longevity experts. A significant focus of her public work centers on Alzheimer's prevention and cognitive decline. Nicola advocates for early baseline testing, cardiovascular and metabolic health, strength and aerobic training to increase BDNF, sleep optimization, inflammation reduction, and lifelong cognitive engagement. She frequently highlights the disproportionate risk women face in Alzheimer's disease and calls for greater awareness around hormonal and midlife cognitive vulnerability. Nicola frames brain health as a lifelong discipline, connecting elite performance principles with long-term cognitive resilience and positioning brain optimization not as a reactive measure, but as a proactive strategy beginning in early adulthood. Have you been eating less, working out more, and still can't seem to shed a single pound? I sat down with Dani Conway to explore why traditional dieting is actually working against your body. Dani overcame a 65-pound weight struggle and severe hormone dysfunction and now helps midlife women do the same. You'll discover why calorie restriction and intermittent fasting are two of the biggest fat-loss mistakes women over 40 make. Dani shares how decades of yo-yo dieting actually downregulate your metabolism, making conventional diets progressively less effective. She explains why fixing your gut and detoxification pathways should come before addressing hormones. We also cover why protein intake (at least 30–40g per meal) is non-negotiable for body recomposition and how resistance training paired with the right nutrition strategy is the true path to the lean, strong body most women are working so hard for. “Eating less to weigh less is not metabolic nutrition, but eating more to weigh less is metabolic nutrition.” Dani ConwaySupport the show and get 50% off MCT oil with free shipping—just leave us a review on iTunes and Spotify and let us know! https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/live-beyond-the-norms/id1714886566Resources:The Wellness Collective Community: https://nutritionthenaturalway.com/ Weight Loss Accelerator Program: https://nutritionthenaturalway.com/group-coaching-and-accountability/ About Dani ConwayDani Conway is a board-certified functional diagnostic nutrition practitioner and the founder of The Fat Burn Formula for Women Over 40. Your body has everything it needs to heal itself. You just need to know how to activate it. In this episode, I sit down with Ryan Riley to explore a powerful concept that could reshape how we think about aging, recovery, and disease. Ryan breaks down how stem cells function as the body's natural repair system and why most of us are operating with far fewer of them than we should. We also dig into the science behind endogenous stem cell mobilization and how simple daily habits and targeted supplementation can support long-term health. What if the current rise in childhood anxiety, ADHD, and chronic diseases isn't a result of genetics, but a broken food and medical system we've normalized? In today's episode, Dr. Elisa Song, an integrative pediatrician, reveals how our overfed yet undernourished children are suffering from a medical and dietary crisis. We discuss the alarming rise of childhood mental health and physical conditions that can be traced back to the modern food system and medical practices. Dr. Elisa explains why children today are biologically undernourished despite consuming more food than ever before. She highlights the critical role gut health plays in shaping children's behavior, mental clarity, and immunity. If you're concerned about the well-being of your child in a world of processed foods and overmedication, this episode provides the tools to start making meaningful changes today. “I'm not saying don't give those babies antibiotics or antacid medications. Joe Kent is a retired U.S. Army Special Forces officer, former CIA paramilitary officer, and until recently served as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, stepping down from the post in March 2026 following a principled disagreement over U.S. policy in the Iran war. An Oregon native and graduate of Norwich University in Strategic Defense Analysis, Kent served in the U.S. Army for 20 years, completing 11 combat deployments across the Middle East and other high-threat regions. His military career included service with the 75th Ranger Regiment, Army Special Forces, and U.S. Army Special Operations Command, earning numerous commendations, including six bronze stars. Barry E. “Butch” Wilmore was raised in Tennessee, where an early fascination with aviation, engineering, and disciplined teamwork set the course for his career. He earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in electrical engineering from Tennessee Technological University, along with a master's degree in aviation systems from the University of Tennessee. Before NASA, Wilmore served as a U.S. Navy aviator, test pilot, and squadron officer, accumulating more than 8,000 flight hours and 663 carrier landings in tactical jet aircraft. Wilmore flew A-7E and F/A-18 aircraft during four operational deployments aboard the USS Forrestal, Kennedy, Enterprise, and Eisenhower. He completed 21 combat missions during Operation Desert Storm and also flew in support of Desert Shield, Southern Watch, and NATO operations over Bosnia. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School, he contributed to the early development and carrier certification of the T-45 jet trainer, experience that proved critical to his later astronaut duties. Selected as a NASA astronaut in 2000, Wilmore flew three space missions totaling 464 days in space. He piloted STS-129 aboard Space Shuttle Atlantis in 2009, delivering critical hardware to the ISS. In 2014–2015, he launched aboard a Russian Soyuz as part of Expedition 41, later assuming command of Expedition 42, spending 167 days in orbit and conducting four spacewalks. Most recently, he commanded Boeing Starliner's first crewed flight in 2024; following an uncrewed return decision, he completed a long-duration ISS mission and returned to Earth in March 2025 aboard SpaceX Crew-9. Wilmore retired from NASA in July 2025 after 25 years with the agency, one of the few astronauts to fly aboard the Space Shuttle, Soyuz, Starliner, and Crew Dragon. He is married to Deanna, with whom he has two daughters, and is known for steady leadership, deep technical skill, faith, and continued commitment to mentorship and STEM outreach. Are ADHD and autism purely genetic and neurological, or could oxidative stress be a missing piece of the puzzle? In this episode of the Naturally Nourished Podcast, we unpack the growing conversation around how excessive oxidative burden and low antioxidant status may influence brain chemistry, behavior, and symptom expression. We explore how modern inputs like environmental exposures, dietary patterns, metabolic stress, and toxin load can contribute to neurological inflammation and why looking upstream at root drivers can shift how we approach support strategies. We also break down what actually helps lower oxidative stress in practical, sustainable ways, from stabilizing blood sugar and prioritizing protein to increasing antioxidant-rich produce and targeted nutrient support. This conversation connects the dots between physiology and daily habits, giving you tangible tools to support neurological resilience, mood regulation, and cognitive function using food-as-medicine. AJ is a former senior CIA operations officer and twice-selected Chief of Station who served across the full spectrum of clandestine operations, including warzones, denied areas, and austere overseas postings. A U.S. Naval Academy graduate with a B.S. in Physics and a former Marine combat arms officer, AJ spent his career leading high-risk missions in defense of U.S. national security. In 2021, while serving in Southeast Asia, AJ experienced what he describes as a directed energy attack associated with reported Anomalous Health Incidents (AHIs). He recounts an acute neurological event followed by lasting cognitive, physical, and autonomic symptoms. Subsequent medical evaluations documented biomarkers consistent with brain injury and confirmed dysautonomia, among other measurable abnormalities. Drawing on historical research into directed energy programs and Cold War-era microwave investigations, AJ has spoken publicly about the broader national security implications of emerging non-kinetic weapons. Following his medical retirement, he became an advocate for transparency, proper medical protocols, and full implementation of the Havana Act, engaging with congressional oversight bodies and senior national security officials to push for accountability and care for affected personnel.
