Hey there! Have you ever heard of Amy Stein? She's a remarkable individual who specializes in helping women who possess the highly sensitive trait, guiding them to reconnect with their body's innate intelligence. As a child, Amy was often told she was too sensitive, but she embraced her unique qualities and turned them into strengths. She firmly believes that our bodies possess profound wisdom, and they communicate with us through signs and symptoms. Unlike the allopathic medical world, which tends to compartmentalize things, Amy recognizes the interconnectedness of mental and physical healing. In her journey, she discovered the power of plant medicine and the spirit connection it provides. By tapping into the energy medicine found in plants and Mother Nature, Amy has unlocked new realms of healing. Intriguing, right? Amy Stein and I discuss her journey to wellness through natural living, connecting with Mother Nature and breath work. We dive into primary programming and emotion work. We cover a lot of ground in this topic but it was so fun! It's a little more woo-woo than you typically hear in my podcast and you'll hear me push back a little with Amy and play devil's advocate with some questions. We really came to some common ground with the breath work so I asked her to record a bonus clip of a mini breathwork session. It was delightful to go through that with her. What happens when the doctors can't help? My guest, Amy Stein spent countless hours and thousands of dollars searching for answers to her mysterious illneses. Doctors treated her symptoms but she continued to get sicker. Finally, when one doctor told her the answer was chemotherapy (just kill off your immune system and start over), Amy knew she needed a different path. Out of desperation came the healing Amy was searching for; she fired all her doctors and began using the ancient wisdom of plant medicine, food and somatic therapy. Amy now uses her knowledge and training to help others on an alternative healing journey including addressing trauma through breathwork, plant medicine and energy healing. On today's podcast we talk about: The last straw Feeling safe in your body (what does that mean?) The importance of going slow to speed up Not all somatic therapies are the same How modern day medicine is catching up to the ancient healing wisdom from 5000 years ago We all have the ability to heal Amy's 5 tips for Whole Body Healing Amy's mission is to educate and empower those who are struggling with their health on how to live in harmony with their bodies and environments in a natural way. Many of us have had the experience of symptoms in our body that our Western medicine and doctors don't always have answers to. And sometimes symptoms are messengers telling us to listen to our bodies. Urging us to reconnect our body and spirit before physical healing can occur. In this episode, I have a wonderful conversation with Amy Stein, Herbalist and Trauma-Informed Breathwork Facilitator, about how to listen to those messages, advocate for ourselves, and connect to our inner wisdom on our healing journeys.Amy shares her story of the bodily pain symptoms she would experience as a child that nobody could understand. At the time nobody understood what it meant to be highly sensitive and empathic, so it was a long journey to learn that external stimuli were manifesting physically in her body. Amy and I talk about starting healing with breathwork and we explore the value of healthy food, connecting with nature, and how to really hear the messages our bodies send us.About Amy SteinAmy's journey began about 12 years ago when her body's message grew increasingly loud and unavoidable. She had always had stomachaches and headaches as a child but the message that was given to her by others was that she was too "sensitive" and was affected by too many things. At the time Amy didn't know what this meant and wouldn't discover that she was Highly Sensitive and an Empath until further in her healing journey. This is when many of these sensations increased in intensity and duration and she was unable to ignore them anymore. She went the traditional route for healing but nothing seemed to work and she became sicker and sicker. It took some time but she found her way to Plant Medicine and she found some relief. Then she discovered Energy Medicine a few years later and more of the puzzle pieces fell into place. She began to re-connect her Body and Mind and add in the missing component of Spirit. This then led to the final piece of the trauma-informed breathwork training. This piece allowed her to remember that her body was designed to heal and that you can't heal by yourself, you need to be supported in the process to allow for the healing to occur.Through her own healing and health journey she decided to begin helping others to reconnect to their own inner wisdom. She realized that we all have the ability to live via our intuition-we simply need to trust it. Today I'm talking with Amy Stein, an herbalist, energy medicine educator, and trauma-informed breathwork facilitator. Her mission is to educate and empower the highly empathetic so that they can live in harmony with their body and their environment by working with Mother Nature's intelligence rather than against it. Today she's here to speak loud about choosing what is best for our bodies and the intersections of the body's intelligence and empathy. Treating the Root CauseAmy shares that throughout her life she often felt misunderstood and not honored when it came to her body. Symptoms such as migraines and blackouts were dismissed or she was told, “Your body is broken, take this pill.” These wounds and limiting beliefs followed her into adulthood as the ailments only increased. Her journey began while teaching geriatric patients coping skills such as meditation as an alternative to medication. However, Amy didn't fully understand the concepts she was teaching and decided to educate and empower herself. The body isn't a car; you can't just treat the symptoms, but must tackle the root cause. It's a life-long journey, Amy explains, but she says that you won't be led astray if you trust your intuition. The Wisdom of Plant MedicineAmy's intuition guided her to plant medicine and she began learning about the different affinities plants have to support her body. She regularly forages and utilizes the innate intelligence of Mother Nature. The earth is resilient and adapting, and Amy has found power in communing with nature and taking advantage of that symbiotic relationship. The hardest part about plant medicine, Amy says, is learning what works best for you. However, it's very easy to get started. She cautions listeners to be mindful of what and where they're picking but even plants in your city or backyard can be beneficial. Herbs such as thyme, lemon balm, and lavender also have great healing properties and can be easily grown indoors.Getting into the Body with BreathworkAmy explains that breathwork is a great and easy way to reconnect with the body. Some people find it more accessible than meditation because it invites thoughts and feelings to be processed and released. You don't need to go into breathwork with an agenda; the body has its own agenda while the mind is quiet. Amy offers breathwork for others through coaching and weekly group sessions. She believes that breathwork can be transformative and easy and it's the modality that has helped her the most in her healing journey. Through her services, she teaches others to show up for themselves and hopes that listeners know that they have the answers within. They are not broken and are encouraged to choose what's best for them and their bodies. Listen in to learn about spiritual energy and intuition, homeopathy, and how to start foraging in your own backyard. When it comes to health, what happens when you do everything RIGHT yet so many things go wrong in our bodies? You've heard this concept of a “canary in a coal mine” as it relates to a human, but do you know what it means? Often those of us who are hypersensitive beings get labeled as “complainers” or as I was called when I was little, the “Princess and the pea” … it's hard for people to get that there are beings on this planet that are hypersensitive to MANY things for a POWERFUL reason (for we are the seers, sages, witches, and so much more!). We are so susceptible and so sensitive to ALL energy, chemicals, poisons, toxins, etc., etc., etc. In this episode with guest is Amy Stein, an Herbalist, Energy Medicine Educator, and Trauma-Informed Breathwork Facilitator, we deep-dive into: - What it's like to be different and feel things that others just don't know exist - What it's like to be a “canary in a coal mine” and how our modern society does not revere the hypersensitive person and what this means for those of us who are - What a hypersensitive person (or HSP) is and what it means is that we were in a tribe that kept everybody safe because we are more sensitive to energies, sounds, sights, etc. - How to help our bodies heal as a canary in a coal mine and ways to support our existence - Helping HSP's to get into a place where we can feel like we're existing to thrive not just to survive (energy work and more) Plus, lots more juicy stuff… Reminder: We have the video versions on the Disrupt Now Podcast Video Channel here: https://rumble.com/c/c-1001332 Always go to www.disruptnowprogram.com/podcast to read all the details about our episodes and explore our guests!

UnBreakable Spirit, Inspiring Stories of Women Surviving and Thriving
In Episode 25, you'll hear Amy's story. She was barely surviving, sick and in pain. She'd been to every doctor imaginable. No one had an answer. Doctors kept throwing medications at her and she kept getting sicker. She didn't feel seen, heard or believed. She and her husband ultimately traveled to Johns Hopkins for their Hail Mary, Amy was down to only 85lbs. And they had no answers. Amy was done. She was ready to give up. Amy only moved from surviving to thriving when she began to listen and trust her body over the doctors which was not easy. She took her power back and used her research experience to "guinea pig" herself. She began to slowly move out of the darkness and despair that had been her life for too many years to count. She did this by reading books, listening to functional practitioners on podcasts and investing in herself. My type A personality was being put to the test and I was determined to figure my way out of this. I tried everything and anything and didn't realize I was trying to manic-heal my way out of my illnesses. It was frustrating and demoralizing because I was doing everything “right” but I couldn't fully heal. It was when she reconnected with her intuition and found a connection to a higher power that massive shifts began to occur. Mother Nature's cycles and plants have been a game changer for her. She was led to the “power of the plants” by an old book of her Gram's-it was like a message from Heaven. It felt like a sign, so she moved forward in this direction. This led her to embark on making her own herbal formulations, to become an herbalist, study homeopathy and became trained as a trauma informed breathwork facilitator. Amy's mission is to educate and empower others to be their own best healers by reconnecting with the innate intelligence of their body with Mother Nature. Reminding themselves that they get to choose what is best for their body. Amy does this by teaching them how to re-awakening to their intuition as true healing only occurs when we address the whole package. Her approach is a mind-body-spirit one which uses the “power of the plants”, mindfulness and breath to assist you in transforming into whom you are meant to be. Amy shares her story of struggling to navigate through the medical system over the past 12 years and to figure out what was causing a wide range of physical symptoms she was experiencing. Dr. Stein is the new PeDRA Biostatistician. Hailing from Arizona, Amy stumbled into a career in statistics near the end of her senior year as an undergraduate. One of her professors offered her a stop in the statistics graduate program at Baylor and it was there that Amy found her calling. She supports PeDRA investigators with everything from designing a stats-friendly study to teasing out data at the end of a study, all with a hands-on, energetic approach. When Dr. Stein isn't tackling the stats, she's baking cookies for every season with her children, and reading any book she can get her hands on.

At first, Amy Stein thought the aches and pains gripping her body were psychosomatic. Working as a medical researcher studying chronic pain management, it seemed plausible that the symptoms her patients were experiencing made her hypervigilant of her own body. But then the muscles in her back started to fuse, her weight dropped to a dangerous 85 pounds, and her body — screaming in pain — began to shut down. Western Medicine — including 30 different specialists, from Neurologists to Hematologists, and Rheumatologists plus $320,000 in out-of-pocket medical expenses — offered no solutions. Sick of being a medical guinea pig, and with a growing cocktail of prescription medications, Amy — who has a Bachelor of Psychology, and an MBA — put her research skills to personal use. More than 8000 hours of investigation later, Amy discovered the link between trauma and autoimmune disease, the power of plant medicine, addressing imbalances within the body, toxicity, and parasites. A note from Amy: "Dr. Kim D'Eramo and other Energy Medicine teachers have been a big influence on my journey. It wasn't until I understood the relationship of mind-body-spirit healing that I began to recover. I am still constantly learning as I love researching and reading. I am working on starting to reach out and helping others to rebalance and thrive with the "power of the plants". I created my own original herbal products that I use in my daily healing and look forward to sharing with others in the future. I want to share my story with others to let them know there is a way back from the HELL of trauma and AI diseases. I decided to start writing a book about my experience. I am also planning on creating a series on different topics that I feel are relevant to know about in order to maneuver the minefields of our toxic world. I have used the plants in many different forms and I am always excited when I discover a new use for a plant-I owe a lot of my healing to Mother Nature and establishing trust in the innate intelligence of my body." August 27 – October 18, 2018Kathleen O. Ellis GalleryGallery Talk: Thursday, September 20, 6pmReception: Thursday, September 20, 5-7pmLight Work is pleased to announce Be Strong and Do Not Betray Your Soul: Selections from the Light Work Collection. The exhibition is guest-curated by For Freedoms, a platform for civic engagement, discourse, and direct action for artists in the United States, co-founded in 2016 by former Light Work artists-in-residence Eric Gottesman and Hank Willis Thomas. Since then, For Freedoms has produced exhibitions, town hall meetings, and public art to spur greater participation in civic life. On their motivations for starting For Freedoms, Gottesman states, “Our hope was to spark dialogue about our collective civic responsibility to push for freedom and justice today, as those before us pushed for freedom and justice in their time through peaceful protest and political participation.”Borrowing its title from the Charles Biasiny-Rivera piece of the same name, Be Strong and Do Not Betray Your Soul features more than forty photographs from the Light Work Collection that explore topics of politics, social justice, identity, and visibility. These subjects have remained significant for Light Work and many of the artists we have supported over our forty-five year history. The list of artists includes: Laura Aguilar, George Awde, Karl Baden, Lois Barden and Harry Littell, Claire Beckett, Charles Biasing-Rivera, Samantha Box, Deborah Bright, Chan Chao, Renee Cox, Rose Marie Cromwell, Jen Davis, Jess Dugan, John Edmonds, Amy Elkins, Nereyda Garcia Ferraz, Jennifer Garza-Cuen, Antony Gleaton, Jim Goldberg, David Graham, Mahtab Hussain, Osamu James Nakagawa, Tommy Kha, Pipo Nguyen-Duy, Deana Lawson, Mary Mattingly, Jackie Nickerson, Shelley Niro, Suzanne Opton, Kristine Potter, Ernesto Pujol, Irina Rozovsky, Alessandra Sanguinetti, Kanako Sasaki, Pacifico Silano, Clarissa Sligh, Beuford Smith, Amy Stein, Mila Teshaieva, Brian Ulrich, Ted Wathen, Carrie Mae Weems, Carla Williams, Hank Willis Thomas, Pixy Yijun Liao.In addition to the selections of work on view at Light Work, we have collaborated with For Freedoms to display a series of billboards throughout the city of Syracuse created by internationally-renowned artists Zoe Buckman, Eric Gottesman, Carrie Mae Weems, Spider Martin, and Hank Willis Thomas. These billboards use photography and text to address social issues and our political climate. This exhibition and related programming coincides with The 50 State Initiative, an ambitious new phase of For Freedoms Fall 2018 programming, during the lead-up to the midterm elections. Building off of the existing artistic infrastructure in the United States, For Freedoms has developed a network of artists and institutional partners, including Light Work, who will produce nationwide public art installations, exhibitions, and local community dialogues in order to inject nuanced, artistic thinking into public discourse. Centered around the vital work of artists, these exhibitions, and related projects will model how arts institutions can become civic forums for action.lg.ht/BeStrong—Special thanks to Daylight Blue Mediadaylightblue.comLight Worklightwork.orgMusic: "Bald Eagle" and "American Crow" by Chad CrouchMusic: "Vela Vela" by Blue Dot Sessionssessions.blue See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Does an Ultra-sound detect Endometriosis? Why do I still have so much pain after my surgery? Does pregnancy really cure Endometriosis? What are my options? Many Endometriosis sufferers have all these questions, but feel like no one, not even the medical professionals who we trust so much, can answer them. This is why I am so excited to be speaking to Dr Iris Orbuch in today's episode.Iris is an Endo Excision specialist and the Director of the Advanced Gynecologic Laparoscopy Center in Los Angeles and New York City. She operates at Lenox Hill Hospital, Mount Sinai and Beth Israel Hospital in New York City. Julie Ann Cairns’ life mission is to empower people to live an abundant life free from false beliefs. In this spirit, she wrote The Abundance Code: How to Bust The 7 Money Myths For A Rich Life Now (Hay House, September 2015), and has spearheaded The Abundance Code Documentary (released worldwide in June 2016) to help people everywhere make a shift to the abundance mindset and seek joint solutions to the most pressing challenges facing our planet. Trained as an economist and statistician, Julie Ann has over 25 years of experience in the fields of wealth creation, financial market education, and financial advice. It was through her long years of working in this space, of educating people on the steps they could take to create financial abundance, that Julie Ann realized some of the biggest blocks people face. People often fail to grow their wealth and abundance even when they have a strong desire to do so, even when they have all the knowledge they should need, and even when they make consistent efforts. Why? Julie Ann discovered that this happens when they have not addressed their limiting subconscious code. This is the shift that needs to happen before any desire, knowledge or effort can bear fruit. It was this realization that motivated Julie Ann to write her book “The Abundance Code: How to Bust the 7 Money Myths for a Rich Life Now” and to direct a 90 minute documentary interviewing over 15 thought leaders about abundant thinking, also called The Abundance Code. Julie Ann chooses to spend most of her time in one of the most beautiful places on earth: Queenstown, New Zealand. You can purchase her book, The Abundance Code book here, or The Abundance Code video here. Endometriosis is incredibly common for women, but there really isn't enough discussion of it in popular culture. So much more research is needed on the topic, as we are only beginning to scratch the surface of information about the disease. Adrienne Dominicali has suffered from endometriosis for most of her life. Hear her story. Get in touch with Addrienne at adrienne.dominicali [at] gmail.com or check out her book on Amazon. "Anytime you're thinking you have pelvic pain, number one, it's not normal. Don't let people dismiss you. There are answers and you don't have to wait seven years. You can plow through and keep advocating for yourself and know that it's a team approach and it probably will require you to prioritize your health and that's going to be the hardest thing.
