We all know that we need to brush and floss — but when was the last time you checked whether you were doing it right? In this episode, I share a surprising insight into the similarities between oral hygene and pelvic floor restoration: we think we're doing the right thing, but often we're missing the spots that matter most.Jump in to discover:
Send us a textYour pelvic floor is not a mystery—it's a masterpiece of support, sensation, and stability that quietly shapes how you move, pee, and experience pleasure. We sit down with Heather Florio, CEO of Desert Harvest, to demystify the “hammock” of muscles that holds your organs, why tension often masquerades as strength, and how to fix pain without making it worse. From birth recovery to everyday stress, we map the signals of dysfunction—leaking, painful sex, low back aches—and share practical ways to release first, then rebuild.Heather brings two decades of global education and research to the mic, translating clinical insights into everyday steps. We talk pelvic wands and why glass can be a cleaner, safer choice than silicone. We unpack tantric-informed breath and sensory pacing to calm the nervous system and increase orgasm quality. We even challenge a common myth: sometimes Kegels are the villain if your floor is already too tight. Consider this your toolkit for resolving hypertonicity, finding comfort, and restoring confidence. Then we get chemical: vaginal pH and osmolality. You'll learn why an isoosmolar lubricant around 290 mOsm/kg protects your epithelial barrier, how many popular lubes overshoot into tissue-damaging territory, and how to spot red flags on labels. We cover FDA clearance, biome-matched washes and wipes, smarter strategies for recurrent UTIs, and new, chemical-free period wear designed from aloe-based fabrics. Along the way, we tackle sexual shame, advocate for pelvic PT as standard prenatal care, and share ways to raise kids with body literacy and consent as their compass. If you're ready to replace confusion with clarity—and pain with possibility—this conversation gives you science you can feel. Subscribe, share with a friend who needs it, and leave a review with your biggest takeaway so we can keep these essential conversations flowing.Find Desert Harvest online at:https://desertharvest.com/https://www.instagram.com/desertharvestaloevera/ Support the show

This episode is all about pelvic pain; caused by things like prolapse, vulvodynia, vaginismus, vaginal atrophy, or pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) Pain, and painful sex, particularly in perimenopause, can become normalised and not spoken about or treated, but this is a conversation we need to have. It's a frank and open conversation about sex and bodies so you may want to save it until there aren't any little ears around.Featured guestsAndrea Clarke somatic bodyworker, womb-energy medicine and holistic pelvic care practitioner, and Female Embodiment CoachIG: https://www.instagram.com/root.medicine/ FB: https://www.facebook.com/rootmedicineukwww.rootmedicine.co.uk Fiona Mitchell, Women's Health physiotherapist fionamitchellphysio.comSarah Rose Bright - Love, Sex & Intimacy Coach and authorised teacher of The Making Love Retreats®IG https://www.instagram.com/sarahrosebright/FB https://www.facebook.com/sarahrose.bright/https://www.sarahrosebright.co.uk/ResourcesYes, Yes, Yes and Sutil lubes https://www.jodivine.com/ Dr Bri pelvic health https://www.vibrantpelvichealth.com/ Dr Peggy Kleinplatz's Magnificent Sex https://www.routledge.com/Magnificent-Sex-Lessons-from-Extraordinary-Lovers/Kleinplatz-Menard/p/book/9780367181376 Sherry Winston's Women's Anatomy of Arousal https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7198255-women-s-anatomy-of-arousal Women's health physio https://thepogp.co.uk/You can buy me a cuppa here - https://buymeacoffee.com/katecodrington The Perimenopause Journal and Second Spring are available from all good retailers Kate's free resource library is here https://subscribepage.io/kates-resource-library Instagram @kate_codringtonPerimenopause Unwrapped online course https://woman-kind.co.uk/perimenopause-unwrapped-online-course/ Perimenopause Starter Kit https://www.katecodrington.co.uk/perimenopause-starter-kit-online-course/ MusicTrust Me by RYYZNArtworkKate's portrait by Lori Fitzdoodles

Welcome to the podcast! I'm so glad you're here! This is one of the most revelatory conversations I've had on the podcast - about a diagnosis that too often flies under the radar, despite being potentially the second most common cause of pelvic pain (after endometriosis)I'm talking about Pelvic Venous Disease (formerly known as Pelvic Congestion Syndrome) and I'm talking to a leading expert on the conservative/ pelvic rehab management of it, Dr Julie BaronIn this conversation, we discussed:~ pelvic venous disorders, highlighting their prevalence as the second leading cause of chronic pelvic pain in women after endometriosis, and discussed their symptoms, risk factors, and diagnostic tools. ~ Julie emphasized the importance of recognizing and treating these disorders to avoid unnecessary surgeries and improve patient outcomes. We also discussed potential connections to long Covid, endothelial dysfunction, and menopause.~ We chatted about surgical and conservative options; Julie discussed the complex interplay of factors contributing to pelvic venous disorder management, including breathing patterns, thoracic mobility, and pelvic floor function. She emphasized the importance of addressing these issues through conservative management strategies, such as improving thoracic mobility, optimizing breathing techniques, and retraining the pelvic floor muscles, and noted that these approaches can significantly improve symptoms and quality of life for patients with PVD, potentially reducing the need for surgery...and SO much more!Want to learn more? Julie offers continuing education opportunities which you can check out on her website - drjuliebaron.com - she really is leading the conversation on this topic! If you'd like a deep dive into understanding and managing the treatment of women who are living with pelvic pain diagnoses such as vulvodynia, pudendal neuralgia, endometriosis, dysmenorrhea and IC/bladder pain syndrome (and more!) then check out my online Female Pelvic Pain Rehab course, available at CelebrateMuliebrity.comStay tuned to my instagram feed, @michellelyons_muliebrity for ongoing updates in all things women's healthIf you're enjoying this podcast, I'd appreciate you following/subscribing and leaving a review, or a comment?Until next time, Onwards & Upwards, Mx #celebratemuliebrity
It's so easy to get caught up in the "physical" when you are stricken with chronic pain out of nowhere. This is exactly what happened to Adam. Otherwise healthy for his whole life, Adam began having severe pelvic and back pain, and spent years in the frustrating cycle of specialists and failed treatments. In retrospect, Adam can see so many things in his life that he was unconsciously avoiding, key among them facing his social anxiety and "addiction" to the gym for safety. Today, chronic pain free and full of wisdom and perspective, Adam and I unpack it all. You don't have to be a man or a person who's expereinced pelvic pain to get SO MUCH out of this episode. Such a great and heart-centered conversation. Enjoy! xo n. Join our REAL TIME HEAL series - even apply to be the one who receives the "heal" Click here to learn more! You all know I've been fascinated with the world of chronic pain science for a long time now. In fact, I did an episode on lowering pain signals through calming the brain and nervous system back in 2019 but I've been on a continuously evolving research journey since. And this research has led me to Curable, an app for chronic pain, that works by helping to reprogram the brain and nervous system so we can unlearn pain pathways and reduce chronic pain flare ups. I absolutely love Curable, and use it with my clients to help them to address the ways in which trauma, stress and a heightened nervous system could be contributing to their pain levels. Often I find it's the missing piece of the puzzle in someone's endo healing journey. So I am so excited to introduce you to this week's guest, social worker and psychotherapist Christie Uipi. Christie is on the Scientific Advisory Team at Curable, and is specialised in chronic pain, depression and anxiety. After enduring years of chronic pain herself, Christie went on to not only cure her chronic pain but also to specialise in treating it! In today's episode, we discuss:Christie's personal story with chronic pain. How all pain is made in the brain and how that differs from being told endo pain is just “all in our heads”.How pain evolves to become chronic and how that changes the brain and nervous system. What factors influence chronic pain for better or worse. How to identify if pain is from tissue damage vs. an upregulated nervous system. How an upregulated nervous system can directly influence endometriosis pain.Exercises to begin reprogramming the brain to lower pain signals.I really hope this episode is useful to you and perhaps it will be the missing link you've been looking for in your own healing journey.Show NotesEndo Belly ChallengeEpisode 73 (pain signals, etc.)CurableChristie's websiteThis Might Hurt filmNeed more help or want to learn how to work with me?Free resources:This podcast! THE BALANCED MOMTALITY- Pelvic Floor/Core Rehab For The Pregnant and Postpartum Mom
Hey Friend! Do you struggle with TMJ or jaw pain? Maybe tension headaches or migraines from grinding your teeth? Or have you been told you grind at night and need to wear a mouth guard? If you have any of these TMJ dysfunction symptoms or any pelvic floor dysfunction symptoms like overactive bladder, pelvic pain, pain with intercourse, urinary urgency and more, then you will want to pay attention to this week's episode! I have mentioned many times throughout this show that the whole body is connected and I have even mentioned the connection between the TMJ and pelvic floor. However, this is a connection that is way more intimate and common than people may think. So inside this episode I am diving much deeper into how the pelvic floor and TMJ or jaw joint are connected and how they influence each other. From understanding, anatomy, tension, posture and even tongue posture, we can start to connect and heal our body as a whole. This is a connection I dive into inside RESTORE so check out the details for that below if you are interested! RESTORE is my first 12 wk online signature program hosted inside my new platform that will be an APP soon Pelvic Floor, Core & More! Inside that program I walk you through the basics of healing, restoring your breathing, posture, core function and overall strength and return to impact and intensity. All with the guidance of me, a Pelvic Floor PT, in your pocket making sure that you are getting individualized support and feedback through the program during our weekly group coaching calls! This option is great for those that can't afford a one-on-one session for $200-$240, those that don't have access to a pelvic floor PT in person or those that want to have a structured organized program with support as they are phasing out of acute therapy treatments and working more independently.
In this episode of The Cycle, we sit down with pelvic physiotherapist Susannah Stewart, who works with people navigating chronic pelvic pain, endo, and other complex conditions. Susannah shares how pelvic physiotherapy can be a powerful, compassionate approach to treating pain, improving bladder, bowel, and sexual function
Alex spent years having no idea that her chronic anxiety, depression, pelvic pain, foot pain, bloating, and more were connected and all coming from the same place - Nervous System dysregulation. So many of us walk the same path. As challenging as it is to be in the dark about such things, it's equally enlightening to wake up to what is really going on - and euphoric when you can do the work to rid yourself of all chronic symptoms whatsoever. This is Alex's story. As for me, Alex strolled into my life quite unexpectedly. Her father walked into my Uncle's dentist office in London, and struck up the strangest conversation about chronic pain, a niece in America, and a daughter in Amsterdam who had finally found a solution to the chronic symptoms that had plagued her for years. I was shocked to discover that the solution was me! Join us for an incredible tale of connectedness from across the globe, a perfect alignment, and a story of recovery that has led to Alex's career being dedicated to this work! I love when I get to witness a little magic in this world. Today's conversation is certainly that. Much love! xoxo n.
