It hasn't banished them, it's just made them workable. Thoughts on Breathing Breathing is part of my mindfulness meditation in the beginning. I don't have a breathing mindfulness practice. I just make sure I take a few deep breaths in the very beginning of my meditation and really focus on the tension that full lungs create, the muscle tension. When I let it out and relax, I just notice the tension release and my chest fall. Two or three rounds of that and then I don't really return to the breathing. It is an area that I've been interested in learning more about. Suggested Resources Book: The Phantom of the Psyche: Freeing Ourself From Inner Passivity by Peter Michaelson App: Good Habits (It's not a mindfulness app, its a habits app - it increases mindfulness because it increases awareness. Bullying Story This reminds me of self-bullying, when we bully ourselves. Mindfulness can be so helpful if we're bullying ourselves because usually if I hear an inner voice, I'm not even aware that this is an inner voice I'm responding to as if it were real. These inner voices use the word, 'you'. You're going to fail, you're no good. It’s talking to you as if you’re someone else. We respond to them as if someone else were saying this to us, and we believe it. And so, mindfulness can help this in so many ways. First becoming aware. You have to stop resisting these voices. This is happening and mindfulness is not just about the positive. Negative things are so much better if they’re experienced mindfully. When my inner voice says, people are not going to like you, I say (and I hope listeners are going to do this). This is the story so many people I’ve worked with have told me. You hear the voice, you listen to it and then you repeat it, but you change the you to an I. Ok, you are going to fail, the voice in my head just said that to me. And I say, Ok, I am going to fail. And then you tag on the word and. It’s sort of like saying, ‘tell me more’. So, I am going to fail … because I am no good. And tell me more … I’m not going to fight you. I’m just going to acknowledge that you said this to me. This inner voice said this, I’m going to own it. After a few rounds of doing this, a couple of things happen. First, it goes quiet. People say to me, I’m not hearing this voice anymore. They say, what does that mean. And I say, just enjoy the quiet. A lot of us are not used to a quiet mind. And sometimes that voice, after being heard says … oh, it might not be so bad. That’s how mindfulness can make a huge difference to how we bully ourselves. Bullying is an inner game. Whether it involves someone else, or ourselves, it all starts on the inside. To me, bullies, people who bully others, they’re chasing their own helplessness and trying to empower themselves but it only leads to more helplessness. It’s an inner phenomenon. The bully is the last person in the world who is going to admit to their helplessness.

Get ready for an incredible podcast as we discuss self-sabotage, and how to bring our destructive subconscious patterns into awareness. Why do we sometimes act against our own best interests when on some level, we also know what's best for us? The answer lies in our subconscious motivations.  Most of our unconscious thoughts and patterns were learned at an early age and programmed deep into our biology.  We all can greatly benefit by understanding how our subconscious mind affects our health and wellness. The good news is, we have the ability to bring the unconscious realm into our conscious awareness. JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP | REVIEW THIS PODCAST As you'll learn on the podcast, there is great liberation in giving ourselves more space to feel, and understanding our underlying motivations of why we do what do.  When we begin to take a true emotional inventory, we can turn off these negative patterns that run on autopilot. This allows us to gain more self-awareness, shift our internal narrative, and point our lives in a new direction. How Our DNA Keeps Us Safe, but Can Lead To Self-Sabotage. Our DNA wants us to stay safe.  Unfortunately, this basic survival mechanism is causing unwanted consequences in our modern day society.  The ancestral fears that used to be of real concern from a survival standpoint now manifest themselves as different forms of anxiety and imagined fears. The problem is, these imagined fears can create biological responses similar to those caused by actual survival situations.  Playing out these imagined fears on a regular basis is wrecking havoc on our nervous system and internal well-being.  It can be challenging to uncover these fears, because many live in our subconscious mind and have been perpetuated for years. Not only do these imagined fears have negative affects on the physical body, but they hold us back from taking action, achieving goals, and moving our lives closer to a desired vision. There are ways to uncover how these survival mechanisms negatively affect us.  We must take an emotional inventory and then learn to distinguish between legitimate concerns and our imagined fears. Listen To Episode 118 As Mike Uncovers How Mike developed his passion for studying psychology and awareness. Why we act against our own best interest. How to identify unconscious patterns and drives. How to cross the bridge between information and implementation. Ways to avoid the negative narrative, and re-write thoughts of abundance. How to find the underlying motivation behind self-sabotage. Increasing your ultimate capacity for self-awareness. How we receive pleasure from negativity, any why that perpetuates destructive behavior. How we subconsciously seek the things we complain about. Ways to take emotional inventory, and discover if we are sabotaging our health and relationships. Learning  to distinguish between legitimate concern and pointless self-sabotage. The ways we predict and perpetuate feelings of rejection. What Sigmund Freud and others refer to as magical thinking. How a rebellious mentality can stem from actually wanting to be controlled. Top 3 Takeaways From The Show We need to give ourselves space to feel. This can help us to identify and stop perpetuating destructive emotions that may be running on autopilot. It is important to step back and take an emotional inventory of our lives.  If we can identify the motivations and drives that lead to destructive behavior, we can adjust before our subconscious programming and old habits take control. You can revolutionize your peace and well-being by learning to distinguish between legitimate concerns and imagined fears. Today's fears are more imagined and self-created compared to those of our ancestors that were based on actual survival.  If we can stop the imagined fears from dominating our mindset, we can cultivate a more powerful and abundant mentality. Mike Bundrant is the founder of iNLP Center. He is an NLP Master Practitioner, IANLP Fellow Trainer and retired psychotherapist (NM). Mike became a certified NLP practitioner in 1993 by taking a 27-day NLP certification course from Western States Training in Salt Lake City, UT. Tim Hallbom and Suzi Smith were co-trainers then. He was certified by Michael Grinder after three days of watching him razzle dazzle the room, and he’ll never forget that. He jumped right on master track at that point by going to Santa Fe, NM and taking a 21-day intensive from NLP Santa Fe’s Jake Eagle and Nelson Zink. What a meaningful experience! In fact, it was so worthwhile that he packed up and moved to New Mexico and joined the NLP Santa Fe training team to learn how to be a trainer. That journey began in 1994. In 1995, Mike had the opportunity to develop our NLP training presence in Toyko, Japan. He does believe he was the first American to conduct a full-fledged NLP practitioner certification in Japan (at least he feels good when he tells himself that). Since then, Mike has designed and taught several NLP courses every year as a master trainer, and has been fortunate enough to teach twice annually in Tokyo, sponsored by the great Kazuhiko Umemoto of Team Medicine and supported by the world’s best translator, Nobuko Kobayashi. The programs he teaches in Japan were recently certified by IANLP. He co-wrote a book that was published in Japan in 2007. He calls it Holistic NLP. It represents his unique approach to the field. He provides the digital version of it to my online students free of charge. Mike decided to take the NLP courses and certification program he developed over the years online, developing the iNLP Center. His disappointment at how NLP is advertised and perceived has driven him to create an honest curriculum that doesn’t hype NLP or pretend it is “easy” and will give you magical powers. Welcome to this week's episode of the Art of Authenticity. I'm Laura Coe, your host, and thanks for joining me. Today, I've got Mike Bundrant joining us. He is the founder of iNLP Center. He is a Master NLP Practitioner. NLP is Neuro Linguistic Programming. It is a specific type of coaching that I love. It's really effective, and if you're a coach it is something you should definitely check out. He's also a retired psychotherapist. He no longer focuses on the psychotherapy approach, he mainly focuses on NLP. I understand why, it's Tony Robbins, a lot of people have popularized it, it's a really, incredibly powerful tool to get change in your life. Mike and I had a chat before the podcast, and we agreed to a very different format for the show. You're in for a real treat, hopefully you like it. I read his book, Your Achille's Eel: Discover and Overcome the Hidden cause of Negative Emotions, Bad Decisions and Self-Sabotage. It's a really short 30-page document. I felt like we could really get through this thing in the hour, and every single page that I read, I felt like he had outlined perfectly the process that happens when we move from our truth to an inauthentic life.
