Send us a textJoin the 21-Day New Year, New You Challenge (starting January 6, 2025):https://go.silveredgefitness.com/new-year-new-you-25 The intro to the book The Power of Awe starts with a quote from Albert Einstein, and it reads:“There are two ways to live: you can live as if nothing is a miracle; you can live as if everything is a miracle. The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.” So my question to you is simple – are you living as if everything is a miracle? Do you routinely pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe? I think it's safe to say most of us could use a little help in the awe and wonder department. If this sounds like you stick around, we have a fantastic episode that just might radically change your life for the better! My guest today is Jake Eagle. A true sense of Serenity is akin to the Divine. To know peace. To feel a wave of calmness fill your body. This reminds us of what resides at the center of each of us. The eye of the storm within that, regardless of the illusion of distress and chaos in our lives, keeps perfectly still and peaceful. We often don't feel a sense of serenity in our lives as we've complicated things so much here on this planet. Overwhelming ourselves into believing there is so much we need to be safe and serene. yet, is that true?On this week's Divine Feminine solo episode I'm riding on the tailwinds of the popular guest episode from last week with author, Jake Eagle. His guidance for finding Awe anywhere and everywhere around you in microdoses throughout your day really landed with listeners. I wanted to continue on that note with how we can allow ourselves to seek serenity and peace within as our primary focus and source of fulfillment. From there is where everything else falls into place, naturally. I also speak to how the way to serenity is to simplify and ground. Be in stillness, quiet, & distraction free settings to allow yourself to root into that peaceful core within.Nature Whispers Oracle Deck: http://tinyurl.com/bddwmdtsFeel free to reach out to me to see how we can work together and send your questions, feedback, and requests for future solo episodes here: Whitney Walker, LMFTLicense # 107082www.WomenWaken.comhttps://www.psychologytoday.com/profi...Whitney@WomenWaken.comIG: @WomenwakenYoutube: @womenwaken
Today's episode of The Mindful Minute is the second installment of a 2-part series dedicated to the emotion of awe.In this conversation, Jake Eagle, co-author of 'The Power of Awe', and I discuss the concept of 'awe' and its significance in handling existential anxiety and conquering stress. What I love about listening to these two discussions on awe is that you hear from someone who loves meditation and is ‘good' at it {Dr. Michael Amster} and you hear from someone who loves meditation but struggles with it {Jake Eagle}. Together, I think we get a well-rounded look at the benefits in incorporating the A.W.E micro-mindfulness practice regardless of whether you also do a full sit-down meditation or not. Jake details the A.W.E. practice and he also guides a powerful meditation he developed to shift through different levels of consciousness (Safety, Heart, and Spacious consciousness). He explains how making these shifts several times a day can reset our nervous system, creating significant positive impacts. Jake was a licensed mental health counselor for the past twenty-seven years, and now practices as a meta-therapist, exploring what comes after therapy. Although Jake recognizes the value of therapy, he also recognizes the limitations, and has developed a method that accelerates and simplifies the process of personal growth. Individuals and couples can experience his work in live sessions or via a digital-platform.Jake is the author of Get Weird, Make the Most of Your Life, and co-founder of liveconscious.com, a community of people practicing skills for living and loving more consciously. In this episode, you can expect:00:05 Introduction and Welcome01:08 The Power of Awe: A Discussion with Jake Eagle01:55 Understanding the Emotion of Awe and Its Impact02:50 The Practice of Awe: A Guided Meditation07:19 The Concept of Micro-Dosing Mindfulness16:09 Different Types of Awe29:58 Understanding Consciousness and its Appropriate Use33:05 The Power of Meditation and Consciousness35:38 Existential Anxiety and its Connection to Consciousness42:01 Guided Meditation: the Practice of Shifting Levels of ConsciousnessLearn more about Jake Eagle here: https://liveconscious.com/ and https://thepowerofawe.com/ Sign up for my newsletter at https://merylarnett.substack.com/ to receive free mini meditations each week, creative musings, and more.Make a donation or learn more about my free offerings and live classes by visiting merylarnett.com.IG: @merylarnett #meditatewithmeryl
Humanity has learned to keep itself very busy. Busy and distracted. To the point that It's becoming increasingly difficult for us to go even 15 seconds without some form of stimulation be it from our phones, computers, or other devices. The art of being still, present, and aware of our surroundings sadly seems to be slipping away from the human experience. Yet, not so fast. There are some very well intentioned people devoting themselves to helping people reconnect with the amazingness that is life. My guest this week, Jake Eagle, is one of those people. JAKE EAGLE, LPC, is a psychotherapist, mindfulness instructor, fellow member trainer of the International Association of NeuroLinguistic Programming, and cofounder of Live Conscious. This episode is a bit longer than our normal show, but it includes two meditative "A.W. E." Canvas Method exercises led by Jake Eagle, co-author of The Power of AWE: Overcome Burnout & Anxiety, Ease Chronic Pain, Find Clarity & Purpose In Less Than One Minute a Day." Jake writes, "A.W.E. counters the busy, distressing ways we carry out our lives even when pandemics and riots are not taking place. A.W.E. is a reprieve, a respite from the constant striving we undertake, sometimes just to prove ourselves worthy. Over time, A.W.E. unshackles us from this endless cycle of achievement and self-improvement. We may still achieve and improve but without the endless striving." One of the greatest expressions of love is to "above all else, take care of your heart" (Proverbs 4:23), so as we learn this new language of love this season, let us learn how to love ourselves in all the right ways.Visit the A.W.E. site: The Power of AweOrder Jake's book and begin implementing the A.W.E. Does how we talk about our illness change the trajectory of our illness? I'm Annette Leonard of https://www.annetteleonard.com you can find me on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/theannetteleonard Often when faced with illness we speak in violent metaphors: being a warrior, tackling, battling, fighting. We talk about me against the disease. We think of it as a fight. This seems logical. It seems like I'm working against something that's working against me. As the pandemic proved out, we talked about how the virus was attacking us. It seems like second nature and something we don't even pause to question. However, I think it's worthwhile to pause and consider. Especially for those of us with prolonged illness. Many masters have taught the idea of "that which we resist persists." I've talked here before about how learning to have peace and have acceptance about my illness have brought different kinds of benefits to me. We also have lots of research about how our mind/thoughts impact our experience. So if my thoughts are on pathologizing/battling, what does that mean? When I'm sick for a long time, what does it mean if I'm not fighting? Am I giving up? Giving in? I think there's a lot of benefit to making peace with our illnesses. I can journal and ask "what do you need illness? What changes could I make that could quiet you? How could I invite you to calm down?" These battle metaphors aren't the only options. My next Chronic Wellness Conversation will be with Jake Eagle, author of "The Power of A.W.E." on October 12 at 11 am PST on IG Live. Join us!
The idea of adding 30 minutes of extra meditation to our already busy schedules can feel overwhelming - but Jake Eagle has dedicated years to his research and found the mindfulness loophole. Awe is an incredibly powerful tool that can over time help us rewire our brains and build security within. Eagle is here to prove that awe is not only meant to be found in grand moments like standing at the top of a mountain or hearing your favorite musician live - but in the tiny fragments of our everyday life. Awe is accessible to us each day, and in this episode, Dr. Ann Kelley and Jake Eagle explore strategies like the "A Method" to incorporate mindfulness into our daily routines. These methods can help to ease the tension of the autopilot mode in our brains, reduce inflammation throughout the body, and equip us with the tools to have deeper, more meaningful connections.
The great meditation teacher Sebene Selassie said this about today's guests: “I think their work is going to revolutionize mindfulness.” The guests in question are Jake Eagle, a licensed mental health counselor, and Dr. Michael Amster, a physician with a specialty in pain management who is also a certified yoga and meditation teacher. Together, they're out with a new book called The Power of Awe: Overcome Burnout & Anxiety, Ease Chronic Pain, Find Clarity & Purpose―In Less Than 1 Minute Per Day. In it, they lay out a simple technique for “microdosing mindfulness” that just about anybody can work into their daily lives.Plus: Dan's wife, Bianca, joins Dan as co-interviewer.In this episode we talk about:How Jake and Michael stumbled upon this method (the story involves pancakes)Why Bianca has had trouble booting up a meditation habit (and why Jake says he's “a terrible meditator”)Why people who have trouble sitting daily for extended periods might find that these microdoses are easier to work into their dayHow to do the A.W.E. MethodThe similarities and differences between A.W.E. and traditional mindfulness meditationPractical tips for trying out A.W.E. in everyday life, given how hard it is to form habitsThe early scientific evidence regarding the effectiveness of the A.W.E. As divorced women it can be challenging to find any kind of respite during our day, even if it's just for a few minutes. Well this doesn't have to be your experience any longer. Join me while I interview my guest, Jake Eagle - co-author of the book, The Power of Awe. Jake is a seasoned psychotherapist, mindfulness instructor, and fellow member trainer of the International Association of NeuroLinguistic Programming who stumbled upon an incredible discovery of The Power of Awe. The Power of Awe by Jake Eagle and Michael Amster MD reminds us that research has proven that mindfulness improves well-being and reduces stress, anxiety, and pain. A.W.E. stands for Attention, Wait, Exhale and Expand, and the method is a five- to fifteen-second, three-step process—a type of “microdosing mindfulness,” or a brief, informal mindfulness practice supported by research conducted at UC Berkeley. Michael Amster joins me to tell his story of the discovery of A.W.E. In May of 2020, at the height of the pandemic, two trial groups embarked on a study through UC Berkeley to test a new method for "micro-dosing-mindfulness." One group was comprised of frontline wrokers; and the other consisted of patients at a local medical center, as well as their family and friends who wished to participate. Almost immediately both groups reported significant improvement in symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression, and chronic pain. Michael tells us his story and how we can put the practice of A.W.E, short for; Wait, Exhale and Expand into a daily practice. I wrap up our series on Jake Eagle and the concept of Awe. This is part four. As I looked through my show notes on the previous three episodes, seven key issues stood out to me. The highlights of understanding awe and microdosing it into our lives throughout the day so we can benefit from what Jake's research showed, that it will help us avoid Burnout, minimize and relieve Anxiety, Ease Chronic Pain, and help us Find Clarity & Purpose. In this episode, we continue the discussion on Jake Eagle and the concept of AWE, and I bring on my brother, Jared Angaza, because of all the people in my life, he is one who recognizes awe. We discuss microdosing mindfulness and get deep into how we invest so much into altering our environment and circumstance, in order to alter our mental state. It would be great if we could just snap our fingers and be present, and realize a positively altered state. But most of us can't, so we must all look at what we need to do to facilitate it. We start by discussing space and the overview effect, made famous now by William Shatner. Captain Kirk himself. He literally went into space, Jared was involved in the project, and it forever changed his view of earth and life. Most of us can't do that, but what can we do? That's our show. In this episode I'm back with Jake Eagle, co-author of THE POWER OF AWE: Overcome Burnout & Anxiety, Ease Chronic Pain, Find Clarity & Purpose—In Less Than 1 Minute Per Day, and this is part 2 where I walk with him through his Values & Habits in the key areas of life. In truth, I veered away from my normal format here and we spent the majority of our time around two statements he sent me when we first connected. Here is what Jake wrote, “I am 67, semi-retired, and wrestling with the reality that my old values no longer fit this stage of my life. I find semi-retirement to be quite a challenge and have not yet sorted myself out. I imagine a conversation with me may be potentially unsettling and raise more questions than it answers. Also, after having been a therapist for thirty years, I'm rather skeptical about many forms of therapy, because when I look at how people are doing—overall—I don't think the trajectory is very positive.” So I dive in right there, asking about his values that no longer fit, then what he sees is not working in traditional therapy. I start with an analogy; The going thought is an adult should drink about a half gallon of water per day. But if you drink it all at once first thing in the morning, you'll feel bloated, you'll pee most of it out, and if you don't have anymore the rest of the day you'll be completely dehydrated by evening. You need to be drinking water throughout the day to stay well and hydrated. Now think of meditating, which at the core is an attempt to be present, center yourself, and bring about positive feelings. If you do your 5 minutes or 55 minutes in the morning, and then go about the grind for the rest of the day, you'll end up depleted. Instead, or in addition to this, new research shows the vast benefit of taking just 5 or 15 seconds here and there throughout the day, to “microdose mindfulness.” This is more than just thinking of something you're grateful for, but to stop and focus on something positive and really feel it, whether it's something you can actually see like a mountain or a flower, or it's something you close your eyes to envision. My guest is Jake Eagle, who along with Michael Amster recently released their book, THE POWER OF AWE: Overcome Burnout & Anxiety, Ease Chronic Pain, Find Clarity & Purpose—In Less Than 1 Minute Per Day, where they explain the why and how of this method for a five to fifteen-second, three-step process for “micro-dosing mindfulness,” where they discovered a clinically proven way to reduce inflammation, stress, loneliness, and burnout while improving overall well-being. Just hours before our recording, Jake sent me a scientific report that published earlier that morning. But along with this focus on awe and microdosing mindfulness, I also wanted Jake on the show because this was his response to my request to have him on the show - “I am 67, semi-retired, and wrestling with the reality that my old values no longer fit this stage of my life. I find semi-retirement to be quite a challenge and have not yet sorted myself out. I imagine a conversation with me may be potentially unsettling and raise more questions than it answers. Also, after having been a therapist for thirty years, I'm rather skeptical about many forms of therapy, because when I look at how people are doing—overall—I don't think the trajectory is very positive.” Stay tuned for a very deep and candid conversation. Does your anxiety make mindfulness and meditation feel impossible?! I get it! I actually didn't have a consistent meditation practice like I do now until I had eliminated my generalized anxiety disorder and panic disorder. Only then was I able to really get into meditation. The benefits of mindfulness and meditation are well-documented at this point, no one can argue that, but it's not accessible to everyone. Many busy parents and busy professionals struggle to find the time for a daily 20 minute meditation and for those with anxiety and instructive thoughts even the thought of meditating is painful or just impossible. What if I told you there was a clinically proven alternative and will take you way less time?! Less than 1 minute a day to be exact!! On today's episode, I'm thrilled to introduce you to Dr. Michael Amster, who along with his co-author Jake Eagle, wrote the book THE POWER OF AWE: Overcome Burnout & Anxiety, Ease Chronic Pain, Find Clarity & Purpose—In Less Than 1 Minute Per Day! What Michael and Jake have done is create this “microdose” version of a mindfulness practice which is truly accessible to everyone and will help you reduce your stress, anxiety, inflammation, and so much more! In this week's minisode, I'm talking about the power of awe, and how it turns out that experiencing awe for just a few moments each day has a positive impact on both our emotional and physical health. Researchers Michael Amster and Jake Eagle have found that practicing their 'A.W.E Method' just a few times a day for mere seconds, decreases stress, anxiety, and even depression. Awe can also improve our overall well-being, connectedness, generosity, and happiness. Whether it's an incredible sunset, listening to an uplifting song, or appreciating the beauty of our pet, awe is something that we should be intentionally cultivating in our lives. If you could realize the stress-reducing and heart-opening benefits of mindfulness with a practice that takes less than 1 minute per day, would you practice more often? Neuroscience has shown that when it comes to changing our brains, consistency is more important than the duration of our practice. But it's not always easy to fit in a meditation daily. Microdosing mindfulness might be the solution we need to practice more often, and with less resistance. In this episode, Sean Fargo speaks with Jake Eagle, co-author of The Power of Awe: Overcome Burnout & Anxiety, Ease Chronic Pain, Find Clarity & Purpose - In Less Than 1 Minute Per Day. For an interview with Jake's co-author, Michael Amster, listen to episode #048, The Power of Awe, with Michael Amster and Sean Fargo. Michael Amster, M.D., is the co-author (with Jake Eagle, LPC) of the new book The Power of Awe. Dr. Amster is a pain management specialist and awe researcher who teaches at the UC Berkeley Greater Good Science Center. He's also a long-time meditator and yoga instructor. He joins host Wendy McCallum to share what he and Jake discovered a few years ago about the amazing power of “microdosing awe” and how the simple practice they teach can impact almost every area of your physical, mental and emotional health. In this episode, Dr. Amster defines “awe” and distinguishes it from other emotions like gratitude, discusses the three types of awe and how we know we're experiencing them, and shares the quick 5 to 15 second A.W.E. Method that he developed with Jake Eagle at the start of the global pandemic. He goes on to explain the incredible results their formal awe research studies have generated and the science around why awe is such a special, powerful emotion when it comes to human wellbeing. Wendy shares her experiences practicing awe in the 24 hours after she read the book, including an interesting experience with a bathtub. They discuss the power of awe when it comes to preventing and recovering from burnout and the exciting future of research around the emotion. Wendy geeks out on science and Dr. Amster shares his hope that the future of awe includes a global social awakening. This is an incredibly interesting conversation for any busy person who's interested in improving their wellness, increasing joy, and preventing burnout. The intro to the book The Power of Awe starts with a quote from Albert Einstein, and it reads:“There are two ways to live: you can live as if nothing is a miracle; you can live as if everything is a miracle. Have you ever wanted to meditate but thought you could not quiet your mind or just can't find the time, or maybe you have tried and it just hasn't “worked?” You've been frustrated because you understand that science has proven the physical and emotional benefits of mindfulness, but you just can't get over this hump or plateau.Today's guest, Dr. Michael Amster, has the solution–and it takes less than a minute a day. With this practice, the practice of accessing awe (as in wonder), Dr. Amster and his colleague, Jake Eagle, found an easy, and remarkably simple, scientifically-proven practice to overcome burnout and anxiety, ease chronic pain, find clarity and purpose–and a sense of calm and acceptance with what is, all the while savoring what is–in less than a minute a day. They call it The Power of Awe, which handily, and helpfully, was recently published and available as a remarkably accessible book, with science, observations, history, and practices. When Dr. Amster is not blazing the trail for new mindfulness practices and conducting scientific studies that back their effectiveness, he's a pain management specialist, leads meditation practices, and engages in the power of awe every day.In this interview, we dig deep into the Power of Awe, its benefits, and how you just might tap into what is arguably the most powerful tool we can tap not only to ease this daily practice of being human, but to learn to experience life as it truly is, full of wonder.Find out more about Dr. Michael Amster, his colleague Jake Eagle, & The Power of AweWebsite with Book & Practices: https://thepowerofawe.com/book/LinkedIn: Michael Amster MD - Principal Investigator Awe Research ... - LinkedInLinkedIn: Jake Eagle on LinkedIn: Introduction to The Power of AweInsta: https://www.instagram.com/thepowerofawebook/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100088073915335TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@thepowerofaweEmail: michael@michaelamstermd.comFind out more about Melissa and The Fully Mindful:Coaching with Melissa–Book a free, no-strings attached call to find out how embodied coaching can help you uncover your worth, discover who and where you want to be, and catapult you into your purpose:Book a Free 20 Minute Call with Melissa Check Out the Fully Mindful Website, with Prior Episodes of TFM, including free mindfulness practices

When was the last time you experienced awe? And what's it got to do with anxiety? Hmmm, it can be a tricky one because we typically think awe comes from big moments, like seeing the Eiffel Tower, visiting the Grand Canyon, visiting Uluru or swimming with Whale Sharks. While each of those experiences is bound to elicit awe, we can actually experience awe in everyday moments, inside our homes or workplaces and outside in nature. In this episode Jake Eagle, Psychotherapist and co-author of The Power of Awe explains the powerful role of awe in reducing anxiety quickly, where we can find awe in everyday moments and how to use the A.W.E. strategy to elicit the greatest benefit from these moments. The Power of Awe is available for sale on Amazon. To learn more, go to https://thepowerofawe.comInstagram - @thepowerofawebookFacebook - The Power of AWETwitter - @ThePowerofAWETikTok - thepowerofaweThanks for listening to this episode of “Well, hello anxiety with Dr Jodi Richardson.”How you can help: If you enjoyed this episode, or gained some useful insight from it, please share it with a friend or family member. What if I told you that there was an exercise that anyone can do in just 15 seconds three times a day that, when researched, showed a decrease depression by as much as 35%, a decrease anxiety by up to 20%, and a substantial decrease physical pain? You might ask about side effects of the exercise, and I would too. It seems that the major side effect is this: a significant increase your quality of life. Would you be interested in knowing more? I know I would and I'm guessing you would too. Since you've seen the title of this episode, you've probably guessed I'm talking about awe. The dictionary describes awe as "a feeling of reverential respect mixed with fear or wonder." The way I'm describing it now, simply put, is something that makes you say, WOW or WHOA, like, when your breath is taken away after seeing something amazing. And, if you become a practitioner of awe, you can find it in more ordinary things like appreciating the way your body responds to a warm shower, seeing something on TV or YouTube that inspires you, or looking at an image of the human heart recognizing that it supports you through life whether you're awake or asleep. My guest, physician Dr. Michael Amster (https://thepowerofawe.com/about/) co-authored a book with Jake Eagle called The Power of Awe: Overcome Burnout & Anxiety, Ease Chronic Pain, Find Clarity & Purpose—In Less Than 1 Minute Per Day. I loved the book and I'm not alone. SuperPsyched guest, Dr. Judson Brewer describes it perfectly as “A powerful, practical, science-backed book that shows us how finding awe everywhere, every day is essential to our health and well-being.” So, listen in as Michael and I delve into the Power of Awe and what it can do for you. This week I sit down with the co-author of "THE POWER OF AWE: Overcome Burnout & Anxiety, Ease Chronic Pain, Find Clarity & Purpose—In Less Than 1 Minute Per Day" Jake Eagle. Jake Eagle co-wrote this book with Michael Amster. The A.W.E. Method is a five-to fifteen second, three step process that transports you into a heightened state of consciousness and wonderment that creates changes to the mind and body, while improving health and wellness. Jake and I discuss the research studies that were built around this methodology and how it changed the participants who were frontline health care workers during one of the hardest moments in recent history--the Covid-19 pandemic. Jakes also shares with the audience, how using the A.W.E. method can reduce a persons' experience of loneliness, burnout, and shift consciousness. We also discuss the benefits of healing using the A.W.E method to help our nervous system feel safe, so long term healing and integration can occur. If you find it hard to meditate, or make time for it, then you're going to ABSOLUTELY love this chat today.Today I am joined by Michael Amster, a physician and faculty member at the Touro School of Medicine. He has twenty years of experience as a pain management specialist, been a student of meditation for over thirty years and is a certified yoga teacher. Today we dive into a recent discovery, something that is going to change the way you look at mindfulness for 2023 and beyond. Michael is going to explain the power of the A.W.E method including the science that backs it up, the three levels of consciousness, and how to achieve powerful results for both our physical and mental health in under 1 minute a day.A.W.E's initiationAt the height of the pandemic, two trial groups embarked on a study through UC Berkeley to test a new method for “micro-dosing mindfulness.” One group was comprised of frontline healthcare workers; the other consisted of patients at a local medical center, as well as any of their friends and family who wished to participate. Almost immediately, both groups reported significant improvement in symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression, and chronic pain—results that bore out over the course of the study and beyond. Feel Good From Within with Yvette Le Blowitz - #SPAITGIRL Podcast EP.200 - The Power of Awe w/Jake Eagle, LPC, Therapist, co-author Overcome Burnout & Anxiety - Ease Chronic Pain - Find Clarity & Purpose in Less Than 1 Minute Per Day Research has proven that mindfulness improves well-being and reduces stress, anxiety and pain. But for some, the practice itself feels challenging and inaccessible. That's where The A.W.E. Method comes in. In The Power of Awe, therapist Jake Eagle and chronic pain specialist Michael Amster, MD, share their extraordinary yet simple mindfulness practice that turns ordinary moments into awe-inducing experiences. Helping you effortlessly achieve a heightened state of consciousness usually reserved for seasoned practitioners of mindfulness - all within a matter of seconds. The A.W.E Method quickly transports us into awe, an incredibly powerful emotion that produces wonderment and a heightened state of consciousness along with some remarkable changes in the mind and body that can improve health and wellness. When was the last time you were truly in awe? perhaps it was when you went for a walk on beach, watching a sunset - maybe you felt goosebumps or you lost your sense of time. Unbeknownst to you, some pretty incredible things were happening inside your body. Your fight-flight-freeze response became less active and activity decreased in your brain's default mode network, which is associated with both chronic pain and anxiety. Your interleukin-6 levels decreased, which can reduce chronic inflammation and lower your risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and depression. Being in awe can be beneficial to both your mind and body and now the AWE method provides a shortcut to all these benefits and is accessible to anyone, anywhere. In this episode, Dr. David Hanscom continues his discussion with Jake Eagle, a psychotherapist and founder of the Live Conscious community. He talks in detail about the three levels of consciousness that we go through on our healing journey. The first level is safety consciousness, where we achieve a feeling of safety from threat. In the next level, heart consciousness, we live in a state of gratitude and appreciation. In the third level, spacious consciousness, we are able to access a state of awe beyond words. Jake Eagle, after 25 years in private practice as a psychotherapist, now refers to himself as a meta-therapist—working with people who wonder what comes after therapy. He and his wife founded the Live Conscious community, which you can find at liveconscious.com. They teach online classes and retreats. And Jake is a co-investigator of Mindfulness Studies with NorthBay Healthcare and UC Berkeley Greater Good Science Center.

In this episode, Dr. David Hanscom talks with Jake Eagle, a psychotherapist and founder of the Live Conscious community. He discusses how patients dealing with chronic pain often see themselves as victims and the world as “acting” upon them. He works with them to change their language to the present tense and avoid praise and blame, as a way of reclaiming their personal power and making meaning in their lives. This, he believes, is an important step to connecting with others and healing.Jake Eagle, after 25 years in private practice as a psychotherapist, now refers to himself as a meta-therapist—working with people who wonder what comes after therapy. Traditional therapy has us assigning reasons and stories to our emotions. While this might bring comfort in the moment, doing this can also fuel your emotions to becoming something they’re not. This is the tricky, two-sided nature of our “logic brains.” While we must reason and work through our conflicts, we must also understand that whatever our brain is trying to say is usually in conflict with what our heart is calling for. Mike Bundrant is the founder of iNLP Center. He is an NLP Master Practitioner, IANLP Fellow Trainer and retired psychotherapist (NM). He became a certified NLP practitioner in 1993 by taking a 27-day NLP certification course from Western States Training in Salt Lake City, UT. Because of NLP, Mike’s been fortunate enough in life to do exactly what he wants. He couldn’t ask for anything more. Mike and Jake Eagle are co-authors of the book published in Japan in 2007 called Holistic NLP. What takes up most of Mike’s time today is his family. He lives in Murrieta, CA with his wife, Hope, and their children. What you’ll learn about in this episode: The magic of the “a-ha!” moment and why Mike lives to give other people those moments Becoming aware of the choices we make to self-sabotage ourselves Why — if you work hard every day but wind up feeling like garbage — you need to embrace that After you’ve decided to embrace what’s making you feel bad, noting everything that makes you feel that way The Imposter Syndrome: how this ties directly into self-sabotage Why your psychology — and how you act day in and day out — is the biggest part of being a great leader The questions you should ask yourself before having a difficult conversation with one of your team members The importance of a mindfulness practice to keep yourself centered Ways to contact Mike: Website: inlpcenter.org

Jake Eagle joins me in this episode to talk about "Live Conscious" and his latest book "Get Weird: Make The Most of Your Life". We talk about language and the importance of using an empowerment language instead of a victim language. Language matters, so does living in the moment. We talk about practical tips for changing our perception on language. The FULL, raw unedited transcript of this episode is on my webpage. Mike Bundrant is the founder of iNLP Center. He is an NLP Master Practitioner, IANLP Fellow Trainer and retired psychotherapist (NM). Mike became a certified NLP practitioner in 1993 by taking a 27-day NLP certification course from Western States Training in Salt Lake City, UT. Tim Hallbom and Suzi Smith were co-trainers then. He was certified by Michael Grinder after three days of watching him razzle dazzle the room, and he’ll never forget that. He jumped right on master track at that point by going to Santa Fe, NM and taking a 21-day intensive from NLP Santa Fe’s Jake Eagle and Nelson Zink. What a meaningful experience! In fact, it was so worthwhile that he packed up and moved to New Mexico and joined the NLP Santa Fe training team to learn how to be a trainer. That journey began in 1994. In 1995, Mike had the opportunity to develop our NLP training presence in Toyko, Japan. He does believe he was the first American to conduct a full-fledged NLP practitioner certification in Japan (at least he feels good when he tells himself that). Since then, Mike has designed and taught several NLP courses every year as a master trainer, and has been fortunate enough to teach twice annually in Tokyo, sponsored by the great Kazuhiko Umemoto of Team Medicine and supported by the world’s best translator, Nobuko Kobayashi. The programs he teaches in Japan were recently certified by IANLP. He co-wrote a book that was published in Japan in 2007. He calls it Holistic NLP. It represents his unique approach to the field. He provides the digital version of it to my online students free of charge. Mike decided to take the NLP courses and certification program he developed over the years online, developing the iNLP Center. His disappointment at how NLP is advertised and perceived has driven him to create an honest curriculum that doesn’t hype NLP or pretend it is “easy” and will give you magical powers. It’s a wonderful set of skills that is sure to enhance your life. Is that enough for you? Because of NLP, Mike’s been fortunate enough in life to do exactly what he wants. He couldn’t ask for anything more. What takes up most of his time is his family. He lives in Murrieta, CA with his wife, Hope, and their children. What is NLP? Listen in and find out! What you’ll learn about in this episode: Mike’s journey to NLP & how he became a master practitioner Mike explains neurolinguistic programming (NLP) & how it works Why you keep falling into the procrastination trap How the way you think about something determines how you feel about it Why we choose a familiar misery over a foreign happiness Motivation strategies that do & don’t work How to actually achieve your goals and unblock your mindset Why it’s really smart not to hire someone if you don’t know how to hire people How once you know with clarity what your problem is, the options really open up Why you need to determine both what your goal is & what is getting in the way of you achieving your goals Resources: REInvestorSummit.com/NLP REInvestorSummit.com/Pro REInvestorSummit.com/capital REInvestorSummit.com/mypodcast REInvestorSummit.com/101 REInvestorSummit.com/coaching
