Passage: 8 Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. 9 And he said to his people, “Behold, the people of Israel are too many and too mighty for us. 10 Come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and, if war breaks out, they join our enemies and fight against us and escape from the land.” 11 Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with heavy burdens. They built for Pharaoh store cities, Pithom and Raamses. 12 But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and the more they spread abroad. And the Egyptians were in dread of the people of Israel. 13 So they ruthlessly made the people of Israel work as slaves 14 and made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar and brick, and in all kinds of work in the field. (Exodus 1:8-14 ESV) Song: Faithfulness by Jacob Sooter, Matt Maher, and Stephen McWhirter Lyrics: In the breakers that storm my faith God my Rock and God my Hope You will prevail You're the constant in a sea of change What You've done and what You've said Will never fade Great is Your Faithfulness Great is Your Faithfulness Always and forever Always and forever There are memories that seize my heart But they will never steal or tear our love apart There are victories yet to come They are certain as the rising of the sun From age to age the same Your mercy never changes Your joy it is my strength Your goodness never changes Prayer: This is another day, O Lord. I know not what it will bring forth, but make me ready, Lord, for whatever it may be. If I am to stand up, help me to stand bravely. If I am to sit still, help me to sit quietly. If I am to lie low, help me to do it patiently. And if I am to do nothing, let me do it gallantly. Make these words more than words, and give me the Spirit of Jesus. Amen. -The Book of Common Prayer
Opening Song: What He's Done (https://open.spotify.com/track/2pxyd0ly9E5TEObwOvkedv?si=e3a4786b04684283) by Anna Golden, Jacob Sooter, Kristian Stanfill, and Tasha Cobbs Leonard Lyrics: See on the hill of Calvary My Savior bled for me My Jesus set me free Look at the wounds that give me life Grace flowing from His side No greater sacrifice What He's done What He's done All the glory and the honor to the Son My sins are forgiven My future is Heaven I praise God for what He's done Sing for the freedom He has won Even death is dead and done His life has overcome Speak say the Name above all names Over every broken place He is risen from the grave Now on a throne of majesty The Father's will complete He reigns in victory Sing hallelujah to the King He is worthy to receive All the worship we can bring Passage: After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham! ” “Here I am,” he answered. 2 “Take your son,” he said, “your only son Isaac, whom you love, go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about.” 3 So Abraham got up early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took with him two of his young men and his son Isaac. He split wood for a burnt offering and set out to go to the place God had told him about. 4 On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. 5 Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey. The boy and I will go over there to worship; then we'll come back to you.” 6 Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and laid it on his son Isaac. In his hand he took the fire and the knife, and the two of them walked on together. 7 Then Isaac spoke to his father Abraham and said, “My father.” And he replied, “Here I am, my son.” Isaac said, “The fire and the wood are here, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering? ” 8 Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” Then the two of them walked on together. 9 When they arrived at the place that God had told him about, Abraham built the altar there and arranged the wood. He bound his son Isaac and placed him on the altar on top of the wood. 10 Then Abraham reached out and took the knife to slaughter his son. 11 But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham! ” He replied, “Here I am.” 12 Then he said, “Do not lay a hand on the boy or do anything to him. For now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your only son from me.” 13 Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught in the thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram and offered it as a burnt offering in place of his son. 14 And Abraham named that place The Lord Will Provide, so today it is said, “It will be provided on the Lord's mountain.” -- Genesis 22:1-14 (CSB) Musical Reflection: “Air on the G String” from Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D Major by J.S. Bach Reflection Notes: The slow, descending bass line creates musical “steps” in an elegant fashion while a suspended melody several octaves above creates a satisfying combination of sound registers. Prayer: This is another day, O Lord. Amen.
Opening Song: The Lord's Prayer (It's Yours) (https://open.spotify.com/track/1baVBBJwh3e2EMvRTDI8WH?si=1ec14b68f3f94cea) by Bryan Fowler, Jacob Sooter, and Matt Maher Lyrics: Father let your kingdom come (holy holy) Father let your will be done On Earth as in Heaven (let it be done) Right here in my heart Give us this day our daily bread Forgive us forgive us As we forgive the ones who sinned Against us forgive them And lead us not into temptation But deliver us from the evil one Let your kingdom come It's yours it's yours All yours all yours The kingdom the power The glory are yours It's yours it's yours All yours all yours Forever and ever The kingdom is yours On Earth as in Heaven Right here in my heart Passage: 15 Then the Pharisees went and plotted how to entangle him in his words. 16 And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are true and teach the way of God truthfully, and you do not care about anyone's opinion, for you are not swayed by appearances.[a] 17 Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” 18 But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, “Why put me to the test, you hypocrites? 19 Show me the coin for the tax.” And they brought him a denarius.[b] 20 And Jesus said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?” 21 They said, “Caesar's.” Then he said to them, “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.” 22 When they heard it, they marveled. And they left him and went away. Musical Reflection: Children of the Heavenly Father (TRYGGARE KAN INGEN VARA), trad. Swedish folk song Reflection Notes: Lina Sandell-Berg purportedly wrote the lyrics for this hymn after witnessing her father's untimely death in a boating accident. Her text focuses on our heavenly Father, who will never leave us or forsake us, in life or in death. The tune originates from a 19th-century Swedish folk song, its sweet fluidity well-suited for the words of comfort. Prayer: Almighty and everlasting God, you govern all things both in heaven and on earth: Mercifully hear the supplications of your people, and in our time grant us your peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Musical Reflection: Harp meditation no. 1 by Gretchen Kirby Reflection Notes: A repetitive pattern in the left hand provides a meditative foundation while the right hand experiments with ascending lines. The tune is meant to be joyful and evoke delight. Prayer: Give us grace, O Lord, to answer readily the call of our Savior Jesus Christ and proclaim to all people the Good News of his salvation, that we and the whole world may perceive the glory of his marvelous works; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Why do we participate in communion? Do we just do this out of tradition, or because Jesus did it with his disciplines? This week Darrell will unpack communion and bring us back to heart of the meal that Jesus' shared with his followers before going to the cross. If you are curious about communion, this is a really good week to fine out more what Christianity is about. If you have been following Jesus a long time, this will equally challenge you to dig into the wonder of this beautiful sacrament with thanksgiving. We will take time to celebrate this sacrament together and it will be more meaningful Music: Firm Foundation (He Won't); Austin Davis, Chandler Moore, and Cody Carnes, 2021 Capitol CMG Paragon (Admin. by Capitol CMG Publishing), TBCO Publishing (Admin. by Capitol CMG Publishing), Writer's Roof Publishing (Admin. by Capitol CMG Publishing), A.L.K.D. This week Darrell discusses the importance of welcoming all, which is the riskiest part of being a Christian. Most churches would not put this as their Mission Statement because they do not want to welcome all. Jesus welcomed all, but that didn't mean He accepted what they did. River City Church is dedicated to follow the example of Jesus with welcoming all. As far as "beginning with the end in mind", LOVE is a good place to start. The Bible shares that faith, hope and love are three things that will remain and the greatest of these is love (1 Corinthian 13:13). For many of us though, our lived experiences and relationships will tell us that love can be difficult to initiate and sustain. As River City moves on with its new mission statement, "Love others" is our highest aim and we need one another to figure this out. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” 22 And I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. 5 And night will be no more. Many times we treat our lives like some of us treat our cars. We push through, ignoring little signs or just not taking the time to identify what we'll call “maintenance issues”. It's because a lot of us don't take the time, to slow down, stop, and “check our engines”. MUSIC // Greater Things is written by Jacob Sooter, Jonathan Smith, & Mack Brock
This week's passage is Luke 5:2-7 (NLT) “He noticed two empty boats at the water's edge, for the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon, its owner, to push it out into the water. So he sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.” “Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn't catch a thing. But if you say so, I'll let the nets down again.” And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear! A shout for help brought their partners in the other boat, and soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking.” Music: Spirit of the Living God by Jacob Sooter, Mia Fieldes Fade Away by Jonathan Smith, Melodie Malone, Sean Curran Additional resources: Introduction to Practicing His Presence Practicing the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence Hearing God by Dallas Willard
