In this deeply moving episode of Healthy Waves, host Sana speaks with Austin Davis, a licensed professional counselor and the heart behind Clearfork Academy, a faith-centered teen addiction recovery center. Together, they explore the critical intersections of mental health, substance abuse, spirituality, and family dynamics. Austin shares his personal journey from church ministry to clinical work, the role of shame in teen addiction, and why true recovery requires both structure and empathy—not “tough love.” This episode offers powerful insights for parents, caregivers, and professionals seeking real solutions and deeper understanding. About the Guest:Austin Davis is a seasoned mental health professional and founder of Clearfork Academy, a residential treatment program that combines clinical excellence with faith-based healing. With a background in church youth ministry and counseling, Austin has spent nearly 15 years walking alongside teens and families through addiction and recovery. He's also the author of That's My Kid, That's My Crisis, a book highlighting real stories from his clinical practice. Key Takeaways: Teen addiction isn't always chaotic—it can hide behind high achievement. Early signs include changes in friend groups, school disengagement, and isolation. Austin Davis was just a teenager when the trajectory of his life changed forever. A fatal shooting rattled his neighborhood in the working class Pennsylvania town of McKeesport, and spurred him to attend a city council meeting of all white officials who were skeptical of the concerned Black teenager raising his voice. “ The people closest to the pain should be closest to the power,” Davis says. “ I had a stake in that community just as much as they did as somebody who lived there and grew up there, and I wanted to make it a better place.” Nearly two decades later Davis was elected the Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania, becoming the first African American to ever hold the office and the youngest Lieutenant Governor in the United States. On this episode of Paternal, Davis recounts how the son of a bus driver and hairdresser rose to one of the most powerful positions in Pennsylvania, why becoming a father helped him focus his energy on fixing the state's childcare problem, and where he finds hope for the future despite extreme partisanship and vitriol among today's politicians.

On this week's episode of 'The Saturday Show with Jonathan Capehart': It's all about Turnout. With just over 3 weeks until the election and polls tighter than ever, we're following the presidential candidates working for votes in battleground states tonight. President Obama rallies support for Kamala Harris with a direct appeal to Black Men. I'll ask Michigan Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist and Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. Austin Davis about how the campaign is shaping up in their states and how Obama's message is resonating in a presidential race that will be decided on the margins. Fit to Serve. On this exclusive episode of the Black Baseball Mixtape podcast, Cheats is joined by the inaugural Manager of the Oakland Ballers, Micah Franklin, and three Black players who participated in the 2024 Ballers season: Austin Davis (52 games), Trevor Halsema (52 games), and Payton Harden (82 games). Coach Franklin and the players speak for the first time about their experience with the start-up Pioneer League team, created after the significant announcement that the A's were leaving Oakland after the 2024 season. The Ballers have a narrative of community-first. They have created interactive fan engagement and expensive marketing to highlight their innovation. The Ballers' opening-day roster was filled with players of color and a Black Manager in Franklin. However, as the season progressed, Franklin was dismissed despite a 29-25 record, and several Black players left the team for various reasons. Both Davis and Halsema asked to be either released or traded despite both batting over 300. There were housing concerns, safety concerns, and physical health concerns. There was a growing narrative that the Ballers' environment was challenging to minority players and their approach to the game. This podcast allows you to hear Coach Franklin's perspective and the perspective of the players who experienced the season. I hope this podcast educates and leads to overall improvement for those involved. The Black Baseball Mixtape partners with Steelo Sports, the Players Alliance, Numbers Game Scorecards, Herencia 21, and Rebellion Harvest.
Our fall campaign is happening now! It takes a lot to keep City Cast Pittsburgh and Hey Pittsburgh running strong. Your membership helps us cover the cost of bringing you the local stories you care about. If you believe in what we do, become a member of City Cast Pittsburgh today. Every member makes a difference! Debate moderators, the national press, and even the candidates themselves keep equating Pennsylvania voters with fracking, even as they say the commonwealth could be the electoral linchpin for the White House. But why? Why has fracking become the single issue we're associated with? Today we're with friend-of-the-pod Kiley Bense of Inside Climate News to talk about how 13 million Pennsylvanians really feel about natural gas extraction, and what the campaigns should maybe be talking about instead. Here are some notes and references from today's show: MSNBC's Chris Hayes talked about fracking with PA Lt. Gov. Austin Davis & former congressman and Republican advisor Charlie Dent, who explain it's really more of a fear tactic. Today's guest, Kiley Bense, wrote about fracking in context with our local U.S. Senate race between Democratic incumbent Bob Casey and his Republican challenger, Dave McCormick. The Ohio River Valley Institute shared a poll in 2021 that indicated more people are worried about the climate impact of fracking. Muhlenberg College also tracks polling pretty closely. The NYT published an excellent piece about low natural gas prices and how fracking ebbs and flows with price and demand. And check out this Inquirer column, which argues that if the candidates really wanted to woo us, they'd be talking less about fracking and more about the economy and reproductive rights. The mental health of our teenage population is crucial to the well-being and future of our nation. Today, I'm here to provide a status report on the state of this mission. According to the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Population Affairs, while many adolescents experience positive mental health, an estimated 49.5 percent of adolescents have had a mental health disorder at some point in their lives. Promoting positive mental health can prevent some of these problems. Austin Davis is a leader in teenage behavioral health and addiction treatment, dedicating over 15 years to transforming the lives of teens and their families. He uses the power of faith in the recovery process to help his clients become healthy and happy members of their community. Austin is the founder and CEO of Clearfork Academy, a prominent treatment center in Texas for troubled teens. His commitment to teen mental health makes him a leading figure in the industry. He has spoken to parents, community health professionals, educators, and teens nationwide, sharing insights on effective treatment methodologies, the importance of mental health awareness, and the power of faith in the recovery process. Austin earned a Bachelor of Science in Pastoral Ministry from Lee University in Cleveland, TN, and furthered his education with a Master of Arts in Counseling from The Church of God Theological Seminary. This education laid the foundation for his professional journey in clinical counseling and church ministry. When he's not helping teens or serving his community, he spends time with his wife and three kids, plays guitar, and enjoys the outdoors. For more information: https://clearforkacademy.com/

It's the Friday news roundup! We're looking at both national political conventions to see how Pennsylvanians talked about local issues and celebrating the golden anniversary of an iconic Pittsburgh landmark. Plus, Covid cases are on the rise, and Giant Eagle is dropping GetGo — but another bird is swooping in. We always cite our sources: Giant Eagle is dropping GetGo but the new owners, Couche-Tard, will keep the myPerks loyalty program. Covid cases are on the rise in Pgh and elsewhere, and the new vaccine isn't ready yet. The CDC tracks Covid levels in wastewater, and so does the state, which has a county by county dashboard. Only about a quarter of Allegheny County residents got the last Covid vaccine. The stakes are especially high for Allegheny County because respiratory illnesses don't play well with poor air quality. A bunch of PA and Pgh folks spoke at their respective party conventions, including organizer Erin Koper and Senate candidate Dave McCormick at the RNC and Lt. Gov. Austin Davis and Gov. Josh Shapiro at the DNC. At the RNC, Koper talked about Pittsburgh police staffing levels, which are rising, and homicides, which have fallen since the year she cited on stage. Homicides rose in 2022 all over the nation. The Democratic roll call doubled as a dance party, featuring both “Motownphilly” and “Black and Yellow” for Pennsylvania. Aliquippa Mayor Dwan Walker, who welcomed VP candidate Tim Walz to talk to the Quips football team last week, gave the first remarks. Point State Park and our enormous fountain are celebrating their combined 50th birthdays. We talk about some of their most fun facts in this week's news quiz. City Paper has a great deep dive into its history, too. Nurses at West Penn Hospital authorized a labor strike this week, and striking workers at the Post-Gazette are nearing two years off the job. Disclaimer: the host of this podcast is not claiming guilt of anyone mentioned in this show. These are the claims of Mr. Austin Davis alone. This is part 1 of 2 of an unabridged conversation with Mr. Austin Davis about an alleged sexual abuse scandal involving the Nashville Covenant church, the Covenant School, and the motives and manifesto of Audrey Hale, the former student at Covenant who would later become the Nashville school shooter. Part 2 is only available to my JSLAYUSA substack subscribers. You can subscribe here: https://substack.com/@jslayusa Austin Davis was one of the original members and deacons of the Covenant Church. He met his wife and was married there. His father is buried there. Austin even designed the logo for the Covenant School, back in the early 2000s. But, after becoming alarmed about some things he saw and heard regarding the elementary school students, he began to call for a child abuse investigation at the church. Shortly after, he was banned from the church campus and eventually arrested, spending 18 days in jail... But why…? You can decide for yourself after listening to this podcast. Austin strongly believes that the church and it's political & judicial allies are committed to ensuring the public never discovers the truth about what he claims is a decades long sexual abuse cover-up. He believes this scandal is directly tied to the shooter (Audrey Hale's) motives, as well as the government's motive for keeping the manifesto under permanent lock and key. For those of you who know the work of Austin Davis, but do not really know the man, this will be your chance to hear from him as a real person, and make your own decision regarding his character, mental stability, and validity of his claims. For those of you who want to see Austin's proofs and documentation, you can view the video version of this show which will be releasing in the coming days on my substack, or wade through all the documentation right now. at thesilentbell.org Disclaimer: the host of this podcast is not claiming guilt of anyone mentioned in this show. The political stage is abuzz after recent revelations concerning the infamous Robert F. Kennedy Jr, who, in an unexpected turn of events, unveiled the identity of his vice-presidential candidate. This surprise move has set the wheels of consternation in motion within the Democratic camp, prompting an intense backlash from party members. This iconic figure, whose surname is interwoven with Democratic history and legacy, boldly claimed his independence, veering from the party platform, and choosing Nicole Shanahan, an accomplished lawyer and technology business pioneer, as his running-mate. This unexpected announcement has not been received well by party members, with many in the Democratic side escalating their assaults on his candidacy. Kennedy's decision has led to considerable disarray within the party; party members fearing the worst—insiders remark that this is their 'worst nightmare come true'. The uproar is palpable to all who are witnessing it—a notable departure from the regal silence often associated with such matters. Matt Keelen, a key figure in the political strategy landscape and principal of The Vogel Group, chimes in on Kennedy's transformation from a respected figure within the Democratic family tree to an object of scorn from the very party his family name helped build. Keelen's comments seem to depict an Affection for Kennedy's audacious departure, remarking on how ironic it is that this esteemed Democrat offspring was practically ousted from the very party that has drawn heavily from the Kennedy legacy. In less than a fortnight since Kennedy stepped into the limelight of presidential candidacy, unveiling Shanahan as his VP, he became a favored target for criticism from a party he once revered. This announcement also led to an urgent conference call hosted by the Democratic National Committee (DNC). It became apparent to wide-eyed observers that a state of trepidation had engulfed the party's leadership. Austin Davis, the Lt. Governor of Pennsylvania, was amongst those rallying the troops. His words on the call were an unmistakable proclamation of unwanted disruption from Kennedy: 'He's a spoiler', Davis said, detailing the concerted efforts of the party towards re-election of Biden and Harris.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
