This week, we have Jared Frasier from what was previously 2% For Conservation. They are relaunching as Fish and Wildlife Volunteers, and Jared explains why the relaunch was necessary and how businesses and individuals can get involved. A few news stories also include. A few weeks ago, the Alaska state supreme court ruled that the Department of Game and Fish needed to halt its intensive predator management program, claiming it was unconstitutional. In Montana, a significant amendment to the water rights bill would have allowed sales of isolated state land within the state. Congressman Jeff Hurd has introduced the “Productive Public Lands Act,” which aims to reverse decisions made on Bureau of Land Management resource management plans in recent years for multiple areas within Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, and Oregon. A former Wyoming Game warden and Game and Fish director will likely be the new director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In these unprecedented times of quarantining and social distancing, much of the funding for non-profits is ceasing to flow as people prepare for the worst. Conservation non-profits are not immune and, in fact, are some of the hardest hit. Earlier reports are that many of the businesses and organizations you care for will declare bankruptcy before the end of this recession. In some way we are all being impacted by the COVID-19 virus. But did you know that hundreds of conservation organization banquets are being canceled due to this virus. On episode twenty of the Urban to Country Podcast, I sit down with conservationist extraordinaire, Jared Frasier (Executive Director of 2% for Conservation) at the beginning of the first Bozeman Conservation Convention, hosted by 2% for Conservation, Fermentana, Sitka Gear, and Stone Glacier. The Bozeman Conservation Convention was a first-of-its-kind event that brought together thought leaders from the hunting, fishing and ‘non-consumptive’ outdoor industries to tackle and collaborate on conservation issues facing fish and wildlife today. The goal of this event was to bring groups and businesses together that typically do not share the same air (much less the same panel or stage) to tackle present challenges facing fish and wildlife conservation. The theme of “Conservation is not a Competition” goes beyond a ‘bumpersticker slogan’ to inform our expert panels, films and storytellers for each day. Sessions ranged from topics such as ‘Deer vs Development’, ‘Rivers vs Recreation’ and ‘Private vs Public Land Conservation’ (taken from https://www.bznconcon.com/).This episode is a laid-back conversation between good friends and I hope you enjoy our banter as we talk about some serious and some silly topics and laugh at ourselves a little bit. I'm so excited to continue to share the amazing people and adventures that are shaping my life and I hope this podcast has a positive impact on yours. On this show, Adam is joined by Jared Frasier, the Executive Director of 2% For Conservation, an organization that is serving a critical role in today’s conservation landscape. This is our longest episode to date…for good reason! Jared is one of the most insightful and outspoken guests we’ve ever had on the show, and this one’s an absolute MUST-LISTEN. Even if that means chopping it up into smaller chunks. Adam and Jared dig into a WIDE range of topics, including (of course) why 2% For Conservation is so crucial to the future of hunting, but beyond that, there are too many subtopics to list. You’ll just have to trust that this one’s worth every minute. @wildfrasier @2percentforconservation
