In the latest episode of Brass Tacks - Talking Cybersecurity, #Fortinet's Filippo Cassini delves into the anatomy of effective cybersecurity posture and discuss how increasing network and security complexity is driving a shift from the selection of security components on a best-of-breed basis to an integrated platform approach. Today's SecOps teams not only have to make sense of ever-increasing volumes of IoC (indicators of compromise) and other event data, but they need to respond faster and more efficiently to escape the heavy non-compliance penalties of new regulations. These challenges are explored with fascinating insights into the inner-workings of modern cybercrime and the potential role of new technologies such as AI, LLMs, and the opportunities for automation they enable. We all want to be our own bosses. Honestly, who actually enjoys taking orders from somebody else? Don't we all spend most of our days dreaming and scheming about all the better ways we could spend our time, if only we could work up the courage to take the leap? Today's guest, Andrea Schwanbeck, is all too familiar with that inner dialogue. She engaged with it for years, waiting and waiting for the right time to dive into the unknown. But when a COVID layoff blindsided her, Andrea was left with no choice but to finally go all in on herself, even if it meant she had to pay a premium for health insurance as a Type 1 diabetic. In this week's conversation from Brass Tacks Photography in Portsmouth, and in celebration of Diabetes Awareness Month, my friend Andrea joins me to discuss: Andrea's start in photography (00:00) Diabetes diagnosis (06:36) Andrea's career prior to Brass Tacks (15:32) Wedding photography (23:15) A fun show announcement! (26:14) An unforgettable story (27:32) Our relationships with T1 Diabetes (31:19) Opening the Brass Tacks Studio in Portsmouth (46:50) Building a brand (51:21) What's your mission? (55:25) Andrea Schwanbeck is the owner of Brass Tacks Photography, a studio located in the heart of downtown Portsmouth. Originally from Andover, Mass., Andrea graduated from Bentley University with a degree in finance. Before pursuing a full-time career in luxury wedding photography, Andrea worked in radio advertising and jigsaw puzzle licensing, among other things. A former collegiate swimmer, Andrea is also a proud Type 1 diabetic. To find out more about Andrea's services, please visit BrassTacksPhotography.com or @brasstacksphotography on Instagram. The buck stops here—or does it? How much should former US President, Harry S Truman's famous slogan apply to the role of CISO? In this episode of Brass Tacks - Talking Cybersecurity, host Joe Robertson is joined by Raffaele Maresca, Global CISO at AkzoNobel, for an illuminating discussion of the evolving role of the CISO. Rather than pinning ultimate responsibility for all cyber risk on the CISO, Raffaele argues that once risks have been identified, quantified, and a plan of action agreed for their reduction, it should then be up to asset owners to ensure adherence to the agreed plan. He then shares approaches that have proved effective in managing the expectations of non-technical board members who often have a more binary, "is my business at risk or not?", attitude to cybersecurity. Whatever your role in today's digital world, don't miss this broad and fascinating discussion." How do you securely network a "Smart City" that has to be rebuilt over a hundred times each year in different locations around the world, and with no more than a few days of annual downtime? In this episode of Brass Tacks - Talking Cybersecurity, host Joe Robertson meets with Michael Cole, Chief Technology Officer for the European Tour Group, to discuss the unique challenges of running over a hundred, high-tech, international golf tournaments each year. While not disputing the importance of board-level buy-in and top-down engagement for cybersecurity, Michael also stresses the importance of bottom-up awareness campaigns in which every staff member is valued as a first line of defense - a "human firewall." In this way, he argues, cybersecurity - far from being driven by the relentless march of digital innovation - becomes an enabler of sustainable business innovation and growth. Welcome to Brass Tacks - Talking Cybersecurity, the latest Fortinet podcast series where we discuss the business implications of cybersecurity. In this predominantly business-focused episode of Brass Tacks - Talking Cybersecurity, our host, Joe Robertson, talks to Mark Child, Associate Research Director for European Security at IDC, about the elevation of cybersecurity as a board-level priority and the various trends that are driving this. Together they discuss the evolving reputational capital of the CISO and their role in translating cyber risk into business risk in terms that board-level executives can understand. With reference to high-profile examples where failures to adequately assess such risk led to catastrophic reputational, operational and strategic costs - in some cases running to hundreds of millions of dollars - the discussion then turns to some of the proven strategies used by today's leaders to properly quantify risk as a holistic whole across all environments within the organization. They'll continue with a discussion on the potential risks posed by the rapid adoption of Generative AI and LLMs into our software supply chains, and what can be done to mitigate them—both from a technological and organizational standpoint. Thom Francis introduces us to Randee Renzi who performed her poems "Reach Out to Me", "Beautiful Brown Baby Boy", and "Peace" at the Brass Tacks poetry and spoken word open mic on September 18, 2018, at The Low Beat in Albany, NY. The power of storytelling within poetry is the ability to bring out emotions using few, well-chosen words. The poet is able to take readers into a world of vivid color and feelings. The storytelling of poetry can bring together cultural and personal divides, making it easier for different groups to understand varying points of view and experiences. Poets use rhythm, rhyme, and metaphor to develop themes of love, loss, and identity. Today, our poet, Randee Renzi, uses her words to tell the story of being a human, a woman, and a mother. Randee took the Low Beat Stage on September 18, 2018, and shared three poems. She started with a work-in-progress, "Reach Out to Me." Then, from memory, Randee recited a poem about the love and fears of being a white mother to a black son, "Beautiful Brown Baby Boy." She finished her set with a simple piece titled, appropriately enough, "Peace."

Tune in as our host, Joe Robertson, is joined by Alain Sanchez, EMEA Field CISO at Fortinet as they discuss how new fiduciary responsibilities and the legal imperative to comply with new regulations such as NIS2 and DORA are elevating network security and resilience to the top of corporate agendas, and explore how every step of the business value chain must be continually evaluated in terms of potential cyber risk and how to achieve a corporate-wide cybersecurity mindset that permeates every facet of business operations. In this episode, you will hear how the right approach to cybersecurity, far from acting as a brake on business agility, is actually a critical component to achieving it.
