The 365 Days of Astronomy, the daily podcast of the International Year of Astronomy 2009
Dr. Al Grauer hosts. Dr. Albert D. Grauer ( @Nmcanopus ) is an observational asteroid hunting astronomer. Dr. Grauer retired from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2006. travelersinthenight.org Today's 2 topics: - Comet C2/2015 V2 Johnson was discovered by my Catalina Sky Survey teammate Jess Johnson on November 3, 2015. It travels on a hyperbolic path around the Sun which is highly inclined to the plane where the planets and most of the asteroids travel. Jess's comet's path takes it from deep space into the inner solar system slightly further from the Sun than the planet Mars. Although it will not get closer to the Earth than about 75 million miles it may out gas enough material to make it visible to the naked eye. - If Lunar and Martian colonists are to have chips and salsa they will need grow their own tomatoes. To test methods to do this German Aerospace Center or DLR has developed the EU:CROPIS satellite which will be launched by a Space-X Falcon 9 rocket into low Earth orbit sometime in 2017. Once in orbit the satellite will be programmed to rotate at two different speeds on its own axis to produce Lunar gravity for 6 months and then Martian gravity for the next 6 months. In this episode of Wild Things & Wild Places, host Joshua Coursey sits down with Jess Johnson, the Government Affairs Director for the Wyoming Wildlife Federation (WWF). They dive deep into an exciting annual event happening on February 13 in Cheyenne: Camo at the Capitol. This unique event offers sportsmen and conservationists the opportunity to engage directly with legislators, advocate for wildlife and public lands, and learn how to effectively use their voices in the decision-making process. If you've ever wondered how to make a real impact on Wyoming's wildlife policies, this episode is for you. Jesse and Joshua break down how easy it can be to talk to representatives, the importance of staying involved, and why showing up matters. Whether you're passionate about hunting, fishing, or conservation, Camo at the Capitol is your chance to be heard. Even if you're listening after the event, this episode provides valuable insights into the role of advocacy in conservation and why making your voice count is crucial year-round. For more details, visit Wyoming Wildlife Federation's website. The quick growth of MFF is a direct tribute to the value folks place on ensuring our wild things and wild places continue to exist for generations to come.

Comet C2/2015 V2 Johnson was discovered by my Catalina Sky Survey teammate Jess Johnson on November 3, 2015. Observers in the northern hemisphere will have their best chance to view Comet Johnson in April and May of 2017 while those south of the equator will be able to observe it until early 2018. Jess's Comet will come closest to the Sun in June of 2017 and then be slung into deep space by the Sun's Gravity. In February of 2037 Jess's comet will be further than Pluto's average distance to the Sun and be invisible to human telescopes as it moves in the direction a star 417 light years away in the constellation of Eridanus. It will take more than 12 million years to get to the vicinity of that distant star.
Take 5 minutes to lead, take action and help the hunting community! Jess Johnson with the Wyoming Wildlife Federation maps out the status of legislation being developed, and the need for hunting community engagement and support NOW. This is an opportunity to lead and help establish better laws that continue to support and favor hunting and trapping, while penalizing and deterring truly unacceptable behavior. Background: the Daniel, WY "wolf cruelty incident" has spurred a national outcry for laws that have more teeth int them... This demand included a coalition of 1000s of hunters and 70+ hunting industry organizations. Legislative Next Steps: in early October the Travel, Recreation, Wildlife and Cultural Resources Committee will review and update proposed legislation that comes out of a "Predator Mgmt Working Group/SubCommittee". Current Need for Legislation Improvements: the legislative process is often messy and the proposed law here is not fully baked, so we as hunters can steer it towards a better statute and more likely success on the way to the WY Governor's desk. - email the committee leadership: Chairwoman, Senator Wendy Schuler and Chairwoman (Wendy.Schuler@wyoleg.gov ) , Representative Sandy Newsome ( Sandy.Newsome@wyoleg.gov ) - Identify yourself as a hunter who values wildlife, fair chase and the need for simple, successful and effective legislation - Request that the proposed "Cruelty to Wildlife" legislation be amended to (1) remove all mention of motorized and over-snow vehicles to simplify and focus the legislation and (2) move the new law into Title 23 (wildlife laws) for better implementation and to maintain its legal relationship to wildlife while eliminating potential complications involving hunting and trapping. - Cc your email to include Jessi Johnson at Wyoming Wildlife Federation so that she knows the hunting community is speaking out. jessijohnson@wyomingwildlife.org - Finally, share this call to action in your community. When we are silent, we are subject to the whims or mistakes of others. When we lead and are proactive, our community can define the future and maintain a role as stewards and standard bearers. *** #wyomingwildlife #advocacy #wildlife #hunting #wolf #wolves #hunting #legislation #conservation #wildlifemanagement #wildlifeconservation #predators #wyoming

Today's guest is Jess Johnson, a clinical social worker and therapist turned life coach. She works with clients on something that is absolutely critical for all entrepreneurs to learn how to manage, but is often overlooked: feelings. In this conversation Jess talks not only about her own path forward in business and life but how experiencing and normalizing emotions is critical to success.
Today I'm joined by friend and coach Jess Johnson to discuss all things emotional regulation. Jess is an emotional wellbeing coach for entrepreneurs and specialises in body-based emotional regulation. We begin by exploring her body-centred techniques for releasing trauma and negative stories through EFT. We spend the rest of the episode bouncing between several emotion-based topics; understanding the role of emotions, the importance of allowing and experiencing our emotions with nonjudgement, dismantling old stories and limiting beliefs, accepting the messiness of the human experience, self-trust, sitting in discomfort and allowing yourself to want more from life. If this chat resonated with you, please let me know on socials and feel free to book a one-on-one session to delve further into the topics that piqued your interest. This week I welcome my coach, Jess Johnson, as our guest so that she can share her expertise. We talk about what EFT (sometimes called “tapping”), how our relationship started, and why coaches are humans first too. I also share a specific emotion and thought that I have been working through with Jess over the past year. It cannot be overstated how transformational the experience of learning and practicing EFT has been for me. Jess specifically shares how the small decisions made early in life can continue to create unclear moments of tension, unease, and even pain within our bodies. She also shared specific ways to identify, shift, and heal. Emotional Freedom and Trauma with Jess Johnson, a clinical social worker and veteran. She has taught me how to accept and embrace my own feelings of anxiety and I knew you would love to hear her thoughts on trauma and the value of healing. As a former therapist and U.S. Army Veteran with a career that began working in corrections, there's nothing she hasn't seen, heard, or smelled, allowing her to hold space for even the most complicated headspaces. She harnesses those skills in her work as a Life Coach for Life Coaches and Practitioners, combining mindset management with the energy modality EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques, most commonly referred to as “tapping”) to help her clients create a process for feeling and understanding their emotions so they can think clearly and get shit done. www.payalghayal.com

Ugh. Middle school friends can be so challenging. And many of us, including myself, can carry the feelings of rejection or the belief that we won't be accepted by “those” women, or something is wrong with me and I'm just not likable or pretty or funny or smart enough, and we feel isolated and lonely. Today, my special guest is Amy Weatherly, who is so relatable, honest, and has a down-to-earth sense of humor. Amy is on the show to talk about her latest book that she co-authored with Jess Johnson for our middle school girls about friendship, I'll Be There (And Let's Make Friendship Bracelets): A Girl's Guide to Making and Keeping Real-Life Friendships. You have probably seen her face on The Today Show, MSN.com, Good Morning America, Yahoo.com, Love What Matters, Focus on the Family, and of course, her own social media pages where she loves building communities of women who support each other fiercely.Let's dive in!What you will learn:Prioritizing friendships. How social media has made us lonelier. Why do so many of us struggle with being people pleasers?Popularity vs. belonging.Changing our mindset around friendships. How we all struggle with friendships even if no one is talking about it.Being a friend that is not easily offended. How moms and caregivers can come alongside their tweens and teens when they are struggling with friendships. On this episode of The Marriage Life Coach Podcast, one of my clients and colleagues, Jess Johnson comes on to talk all things thoughts, creating an easier life for yourself, and why EFT (tapping) is so powerful. Jess is a former social worker who is also a behavioral health officer in the Army for five years, and when she left the Army, she became a certified EFT practitioner. Between her history in therapy and her current career in life coaching and EFT or tapping, she is one brilliant heart and mind. We talk about how life can BE hard at times, but it also gets easier.. And how we are allowed to choose easy solutions for ourselves without feeling guilt or shame. I loved talking about different modalities and how they can help you when you need different kinds of support in your life. Whether it's coaching or therapy or a simple tool to help you feel better. A violent hatred of women. Multi-level marketing. Elaborate ban evasion. These are the tip of the iceberg for perhaps the most visible masculinity influencer of our age: Andrew Tate. (Fremont County, WY)- The Wyoming Wildlife Federation is gearing up for Camo at the Capital on February 2nd in Cheyenne. Jess Johnson with WWF joins the County 10 podcast to invite you to the big event. Wyoming Wildlife Federation is based out of Lander and they would love to see some folks from Fremont County at Camo at the Capital. Jess will tell you more about the event, involve us in some bills with Wyoming Wildlife Federation and she gives us an insight on things to watch and look for as the 2023 General Session has started. I was fortunate enough to attend Camo at the Capital last year and it was an eye opening experience. I think many people in Wyoming, including myself, take for granted the public access, hunting/fishing opportunities, and wildlife. The only way to protect it is to stay in the know on what is happening with government officials, during legislation and how things could or are changing in the state. Wyoming Wildlife Federation wants to make sure everyone has the chance to use their voice. Jess Johnson at Camp at the Capital 2022 Jess Johnson has been with Wyoming Wildlife Federation for 7 years and has a major passion for advocating for conservation in the state. She travels globally learning about management of species, lands and how she can bring that here. She frequently is found outdoors hunting, whether it's on a solo hunt or a hunt with friends. I am sure she prefers the outdoors over being at the capital for the next month or so, which is where you will find her. h/t WWF You can follow along with what is happening in session here. It's so important to learn how we think and how to choose thoughts that are in line with what we want to believe about the world. But you cannot think your way out of a past experience that is almost like holding you hostage to that remote moment that you choose to do something for yourself, it is never wasted. It's never going backwards is never not worth it. Because it leads you to the moment, everything changes. Melissa Wiggins 00:56Hello lassies. Welcome to coaching and a cup of tea with Mama Bear. And I have a very special guest with me, I'm so excited to have Jess Johnson, who is joining us from Hawaii. And we are so excited to get this episode done. Because I did not have power this morning. We have another hurricane in Florida, and the power has came back. So we're like, oh, we gotta like start this podcast episode. And get it done for you guys. This is season eight of the podcast, which is insane. And so exciting. And this whole season we've been talking about, you know, why do women go on retreats? What are some of the things we do on retreats, we've been talking a lot about what Jess says, you know, that below the neck stuff, right? Like what is happening below the neck, sort of that mind body connection piece that I think, you know, we can tend to forget about or put second. And so I'm very excited to have Jess come on. And we're going to be talking about emotions and feelings and things that are stored in the body. But I just feel like it's something really important that people need to know about. Jess Johnson: Veteran, Psychological Acupressure, Magic and Truth Telling “Powerful mindset coaching meets psychological acupressure with a dash of magic” is how to best describe what it feels like to work with Life Coach and Certified EFT Practitioner Jess Johnson. You may have experienced EFT before, but you've never experienced it like this. She tends to attract woo-curious Overthinkers who are ready to have their minds blown and their results accelerated by learning to reverse decisions made by younger versions of themselves; decisions that form what we coaches refer to as “limiting beliefs”. It's the closest thing you'll get to time travel without Bill & Ted's phone booth or Marty's DeLorean. If you're someone dealing with what feels like an invisible barrier between you and the life you want, or who is struggling with dealing with emotions you feel will be too big or time consuming to handle, she's the Life Coach for you! Her clients have described working with her as “brilliant, shocking, and mind-blowing”, as well as “safe, accepted, seen” and “pretty darn fun to work with!” Find out more about Jess here: https://www.jessjohnsoncoaching.com

Meat as manliness. We explore the origins of “soy boy” and the rise of internet sensation Liver King (aka Brian Johnson) who looks like a cartoon caveman on steroids and calls himself a lifestyle coach, CEO, and “primal” — all while owning a mansion, a fleet of vehicles, an array of guns and even a private jet. Peter Winkler has been collecting mathematical puzzles since childhood. He has had published two previous collections, and recently he compiled his largest curated collection to date. Mathematical Puzzles (A K Peters, 2021) also takes an alluring new approach to the genre: In the Roman-numbered front matter, 300+ puzzles are presented, roughly in order of increasing difficulty. Fuller discussions of the puzzles are then organized into 24 chapters according to the key insight that leads to their solutions. Each insight gets a brief mathematical treatment, and by the end of each chapter the reader is primed to appreciate an important and kindred mathematical result. In our interview, Dr. Winkler walked me through a handful of puzzles from two chapters. The first, "The Law of Small Numbers", gives a tongue-in-cheek name to the strategy of gaining insight from a smaller version of a larger problem. The puzzles lead up to a discussion of perfect matchings, whose small-number analogues reveal an elegant geometric solution. The second, "Infinite Choice", begins with some variations on hat-guessing puzzles, which turn out to admit surprisingly powerful strategies even among infinitudes of players! The chapter closes with an accessible peek at graph coloring problems. The book is delightfully designed with playful header fonts and illustrations by cartoonist Jess Johnson, through an equally delightful collaboration we took a moment to discuss. As Dr. Winkler aimed, i believe the book will appeal both to the puzzle enthusiast with a limited background in mathematics and to the mathematics enthusiast who, like myself, never really took to puzzles—as well, of course, to those dual enthusiasts whom the author epitomizes. Suggested companion works: How to Solve It: A New Aspect of Mathematical Method by Georg Pólya Martin Gardner's Mathematical Games: The Entire Collection of his Scientific American Columns Peter Winkler is the William Morrill Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at Dartmouth College and, for 2019–2020, the Distinguished Visiting Professor for the Public Dissemination of Mathematics at the National Museum of Mathematics. He is the author of 160 research papers, a dozen patents, two previous puzzle books, a book on cryptographic techniques in the game of bridge, and a portfolio of compositions for ragtime piano.
