From being a part of the onset of Steubenville Conferences spreading nationally to ministering to Columbine High School students in the wake that tragedy to launching Y Disciple and so much more…he truly has had a generational impact on the Catholic Church in America. But that “impact” has a cost too…and we dig in to the mark that lifelong ministry can have - and the need for new ways of supporting people giving their lives to serve the Church. Jim Beckman serves as the Executive Director of ImpactCenter, a Catholic apostolate dedicated to ministering to ministry leaders in the Church. He is the former Executive Director of Evangelization and Catechesis for the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City. Ever wondered why prayer sometimes feels like you are talking to yourself? Do you ever look around at other leaders in your parish, thinking they've got it all figured out in the prayer department while you're struggling to keep up? Or maybe you just crave a deeper connection with God. Today's guest, Jim Beckman, breaks open the art of prayer. According to Jim, prayer is meant to be a real heart-to-heart with God, an open and honest exchange. As he puts it, “You can't deceive Him. You can't trick Him. You can't hide anything from Him. So why not just give up on that right away and just be who you are.” Here's a sneak peek of what's waiting for you in this episode: * Embrace Spiritual Growth through Prayer: Prioritize honesty and consistency in your prayer life. These are the secret sauce for personal and spiritual development. * Navigate Modern Culture for Authentic Prayer: Dial down the noise and distractions in your daily life. Create intentional spaces for prayer that are genuine and truly meaningful. * Establish Your Daily Prayer Routine: Begin by dedicating a solid 15-20 minutes each day in prayer. Build a consistent habit that deepens your connection with the divine. * Use Prayer for Healing and Challenges: Understand the transformative power of prayer. Address personal challenges and facilitate healing, especially for those in ministry leadership roles. Fearless Lesson 7 with Jim Beckman!   Romans 8:35 “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or the sword? As it is written, ‘For your sake we are being killed all day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.' No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other thing in creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

But a lot of you asked about hearing this from a woman’s perspective. So, I talked to my wife, Natalie, and she agreed to come on the show and tell her story. What you’re going to hear is a story that touched our marriage specifically. But I hope our own journey of hope and healing will give you strength in your own journey too. The Screwtape Letters are 31 letters written by CS Lewis who wrote through the mind of a fictitious senior demon named uncle Screwtape who provides advice to his young nephew Wormwood about how best to lead his human ''patient'' to hell. They manipulate the people, events, circumstances, emotions, and even spirituality in the human's life in order to cause the man to turn away from God little by little. It deals with the lies and subtle temptations that the devil can use to lead us to hell without us even knowing it. Screwtape values subtle and devious methods, writing in one letter, “Indeed the safest road to Hell is the gradual one---the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts. The culture is a tsunami of opposition Need to think of the context of where the youth are coming from Content is critical -Need marriage between sharing content of faith and the lived relationship GenZ is ready to stand up for the Kingdom, but they don't know the King Need to pay attention to spiritual and physical reality Peel back layers and show Truth that is hidden -Reveal identity to young people Fundamental groups of discipleship are found in small groups -Need to provide content, but cultivate with appropriate intimacy -Be willing to enter into real relationship If you want to be good at this, get close to Jesus Key Takeaways -It's all about creating a space for relationships -Be in love with Jesus, and ministry will come from the overflow -Disciple-making is about the people, not the program -Given the freedom to start again fresh -Content is a means to the relationship with Jesus REFERENCES Franciscan University of Stubeunville Young Servant with Elisha - 2 Kings 6:17-20 The Lost Art of Disciple Making by LeRoy Elms PULL QUOTES 3:40 “If the point of all of this is for young people to know and love Jesus, well you can't love what you don't know.” 13:35 “The landscape has changed so dramatically just in the last two years –this may be controversial– but I would actually venture that youth ministry as we know it is over.” 23:40 “Fundamentally, we have a sacramental reality that is lost on the vast majority of people.” 31:57 “Once they realize that you really love them, you just can't get rid of them” Hosts: Joshua Danis Annie Grandell Jordan Biere -------------------- https://www.youthministrymindset.com https://www.facebook.com/alphausa https://alphausa.org/youth https://www.facebook.com/YDiscipleLeader https://ydisciple.com/ https://netusa.org

I also share with you 3 popular foodie websites: Foodbuzz, Recipezaar, and Foodista. Do you have a favorite recipe or foodie site? Let me know! Don't forget the contest! You could win some Greek seasoning from the Greek Fest in New Orleans! How do you enter? Simple. Leave feedback! Let me know what you think about the podcast and / or the blog. Tell me what's going on in your kitchen. Share with me one of your favorite restaurants. Is there are particular topic you would like me to talk about on the podcast? Let me know! Leave feedback... especially via phone. Call 985-635-4974. Please check out the Catholic New Media Awards (http://catholicnewmediaawards.com) & vote for the Catholic Foodie. I was nominated in three categories (best new blog, best podcast by a man, and best new podcast). Please vote! Egypt? That's right, Egypt, ancient Egypt. So, what does ancient Egypt have to do with us today? We'll consult Jim Beckman's "God Help Me" to find an answer. We talk more on prayer, and I announce a new contest. And don't forget to vote for the Catholic Foodie at www.catholicnewmediaawards.com As usual, I promise in the intro to talk about something, only to run out of time before closing the show. Sorry! No red beans & rice for you today! But check back soon! Also, the "website launch" announcement will have to wait until next week too. So, who wants to go back to Egypt? Do you? Bon appetit! catholicfoodie@gmail.com or 985-635-4974 (voice feedback) Photo by http://www.flickr.com/photos/paullew/

On the menu at the Catholic Foodie... Prayer, and the book by Jim Beckman, "God, Help Me." Warning: this book causes me to get a bit personal. I hope you don't mind. Also, we look at "Cooking Up a Storm," & the kids share a bit about their summer. Please check out the Catholic New Media Awards (http://catholicnewmediaawards.com) & vote for the Catholic Foodie. I was nominated in three categories (best new blog, best podcast by a man, and best new podcast). Please vote! What else is on the menu? CNMC and a bit of feedback. What would YOU like to see (hear) on the Catholic Foodie? I can't wait to hear! And... What do you think about the new sound? I have a new audio setup and I am looking for some feedback. Do you like it? Or no? Let me know! Until next time... Bon appetit!
