Today's guest is someone whose story and message deeply touched me. As a volunteer clergy member at our local jail, I have the privilege of working one-on-one with inmates to help them discover hope, healing, and the belief that no matter what mistakes they've made, their past does not have to define their future.Recently, I attended a district conference with other volunteers and several former inmates who have completely turned their lives around. It was there that I had the privilege of hearing Tony Taylor speak and sing. His story was powerful, honest, heartbreaking, and inspiring—and I immediately thought, “More people need to hear Tony's story.”Tony shares his journey of growing up feeling like he didn't belong. Born to a Black father and Native American mother, he struggled deeply with identity, racism, bullying, and trauma from a very young age. His childhood was filled with instability, abuse, addiction, violence, abandonment, and unimaginable pain. He experienced sexual abuse as a child, exposure to drugs and domestic violence, and by his teenage years he was already battling alcoholism, drug addiction, and destructive coping mechanisms. In this episode, we talk openly about trauma, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), generational pain, and how unresolved wounds can shape behavior. Tony explains that while trauma does not excuse harmful actions, understanding the roots of pain can help us better understand ourselves and begin the healing process.Despite the chaos surrounding him, Tony graduated from high school, attended college, played football, and started a family. But the trauma he carried inside eventually caught up with him. In a tragic situation, Tony took another person's life and was sentenced to prison. What happened next is what makes Tony's story so remarkable. While in court, the victim's family challenged Tony to do something good with his life. Those words changed him. Instead of surrendering to hopelessness, Tony committed himself to growth, accountability, education, and personal transformation. During his 29 years in prison, he immersed himself in self-improvement programs, life skills classes, and college education. He eventually went from student to teacher, helping mentor and teach fellow inmates. He earned his bachelor's degree and is close to completing his master's degree. We also discuss the important distinction between guilt and shame, inspired by the work of Brené Brown. Guilt says, “I did something bad,” while shame says, “I am bad.” Shame leads to hopelessness, but healthy guilt can motivate change, growth, and accountability.Tony shares how difficult it is to pursue healing and self-improvement in prison, where negativity often dominates the environment. Yet he also shares how faith transformed his life. He credits God and the healing power of Jesus Christ with changing his heart, giving him hope, and teaching him humility, accountability, forgiveness, resilience, and love.Tony openly acknowledges the pain he caused and the years he spent in prison. But instead of wasting that time, he chose to become a better man. Today, he and his son are building a new future together through a fantasy sports business venture with the goal of creating positive impact and giving back to charitable causes like St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. One of Tony's favorite scriptures is Ephesians 3:20:“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we can ask or imagine according to His power at work within us.”In closing, I shared a story from former prison warden Clinton Duffy. When one critic told him, “Leopards don't change their spots,” Duffy replied:“I don't work with leopards. I work with men, and men change every day.”This episode is a powerful reminder that no one is beyond hope, healing, redemption, or transformation. In This EpisodeHow childhood trauma and ACEs impact behaviorThe connection between pain, addiction, and destructive choicesGenerational trauma and breaking unhealthy cyclesThe difference between guilt and shameFaith, accountability, and personal transformationFinding purpose and healing after devastating mistakesEducation, mentorship, and growth in prisonWhy people are capable of real change and redemptionBuilding a meaningful future after prisonListen, Share, and SupportIf this episode resonated with you, please share it with someone who may need hope today.Be sure to subscribe, leave a rating and review, and help us spread more healing and inspiration to the world.Free Resource for HealingIf you're ready to release stress, calm your mind, and begin healing from within, visit:

Episode SummaryIn this deeply compassionate and grounding episode of the Finding God Podcast, Keana explores what it means to heal from abuse that happened in religious environments spaces that were supposed to reflect God's love but instead became sources of fear, shame, or control. This conversation gently unpacks how spiritual abuse shows up, how it impacts our emotional and spiritual lives, and what it looks like to begin healing in a way that honors your pace, your story, and your safety.Keana also recaps last week's episode on recognizing legalism in the church, showing how legalism often becomes the doorway through which spiritual abuse enters a community. This episode offers clarity, validation, and hope for anyone who has ever felt spiritually disoriented or wounded by people who claimed to speak for God.Key TakeawaysAbuse is abuse even when it happens in a church or religious environment.Spiritual abuse often hides behind fear, shame, control, and misused scripture.Your emotional and spiritual reactions are valid and normal responses to trauma.Healing begins with naming what happened and separating God from harmful people. You are allowed to rebuild your faith slowly, gently, and at your own pace.God's love is nothing like the behavior of those who misrepresented Him.You deserve spiritual spaces that honor your humanity, boundaries, and voice.Reflection QuestionsWhat beliefs about God were shaped by fear rather than love?Where do you feel tension or peace when you think about your spiritual past? What practices or environments feel safe for you right now? What do you need in order to rebuild trust with yourself, with God, or with community?Resources MentionedJournaling prompts for processing spiritual traumaTrauma‑informed therapy and support optionsPractices for rebuilding spiritual rhythms gently and safelyListener ReminderYour healing matters. Your story matters. And God is not the voice that harmed you. Take your time, honor your pace, and know that you are not alone on this journey.
Abuse - a pattern of behavior that uses fear/force to maintain power/control. Today we begin a new series: The Struggle Is Real. We start with the struggle of abuse and how to start healing from it, whether it be verbal, physical, emotional or spiritual abuse, God's heart is to bring freedom and healing to the abused. Jesus endured verbal, emotional, and physical abuse so you could be healed.
Sage Williams & Shirley Wasenko co-wrote 'Healing From Sexual Abuse: A Latter-day Saint Perspective' published by Deseret Book. In this friendly episode of Homeopathy 247, Mary chats with homeopath Morris Tuffery about the powerful and essential remedy, Staphysagria. Morris, joining all the way from New Zealand, analyzes how this remedy addresses deep-seated issues stemming from suppressed anger and emotional pain, often acting as a profound starting point for healing. Homeopathy's Strong Roots in New Zealand Morris begins by discussing the practice of homoeopathy in New Zealand. While its origins were grassroots—brought over by English settlers in the 1900s—it has gained professional status thanks to mentors like Bruce Barwell. It is now well-regulated under the New Zealand Homeopathic Council, with approximately 80 registered homeopaths adhering to mandatory professional development. Morris stresses that a major part of his work involves public education to increase awareness and encourage the use of homeopathy for home first aid. Understanding the "Staphysagria" Type: Anger Swallowed The core theme of Staphysagria is the profound effect of anger and humiliation that cannot be expressed. Suppressed Emotion: The remedy is indicated when a person has been subjected to abuse (sexual, physical, or emotional), bullying, or intense humiliation (like being unjustly fired). Because the person is unable to retaliate or stand up for themselves in the moment, they "swallow the anger." Volcano Under the Tablecloth: This type is famously described as a "volcano under a Laura Ashley tablecloth." They are often seen as the nicest people or "ultimate caregivers" who put others' needs first, but internally, they are seething with suppressed rage. A small provocation can sometimes cause a sudden, passionate burst of anger. Lack of Confidence: The long-term suppression of anger leads to feelings of unworthiness and a lack of confidence, leaving them vulnerable to victimization. A Remedy for Trauma and Physical Intrusion Staphysagria is also highly valuable for physical ailments that relate to the body feeling violated or irritated: Wounds and Surgery: It is a key remedy for healing lacerated and stretched tissue. This makes it ideal for recovering from surgery (which can feel like an intrusion), dental work (especially a strained or dislocated jaw), and a lacerated perineum after childbirth. Inflammation and Irritation: It is a primary remedy for recurrent styes and chalazions (inflamed eyelid nodules) and for colic in children who are fractious and angrily throw things. UTIs: Staphysagria is a major remedy for recurrent Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs), particularly those related to the first experience of sexual intimacy (historically "Honeymoon cystitis"). Morris shares a powerful case where the remedy brought about an immediate return of joy and self-worth to a patient suffering from recurrent UTIs and low self-image following a rape. Understanding LM Potencies (Gradual Healing) Morris and Mary discuss the difference between various homeopathic potencies. For the public, it's important to know that professional homeopaths use methods beyond simple first aid prescribing: LM Potencies: These were the last potencies developed by Hahnemann. They are preferred for long-term chronic conditions because they produce a gradual and permanent improvement without the strong aggravations (healing crises) sometimes seen with high C-potencies. Chronic vs. Acute: While first aid often uses 30C or 200C potencies for quick action, complex, long-standing, or chronic conditions (like the effects of past abuse or chronic fatigue) benefit greatly from the sustained, gentle action of the LM scale. Whether you're the person living with PMDD or the partner of someone who does, recognizing these patterns is your first step toward healing.I recently found myself navigating the painful terrain of psychological abuse in a relationship where my achievements became targets for manipulation. The push-pull dynamic—being love bombed one moment and emotionally abandoned the next—created the chaos and confusion that signal an unhealthy connection. Through tears and self-doubt, I discovered that taking my power back required first naming what was happening: "This is emotional abuse. This is psychological manipulation. This is not love."For those with PMDD, our vulnerability increases during luteal phase when we desperately need validation and support. This makes us prime targets for narcissists who sense our deep capacity for empathy and forgiveness. Breaking free starts with meaningful detachment—not as punishment, but as protection for both parties. The mantra that saved me was simple yet profound: "I can love someone from a distance while protecting my peace."Creating boundaries doesn't always mean cutting contact immediately. Sometimes it means limiting what you share, controlling when you respond, and recognizing that "my silence is my power, not my weakness." Most importantly, maintain your daily routines. When I reclaimed my morning practice of prayer, reading, exercise, and journaling, I reminded myself that every choice was a step toward freedom. You deserve relationships where your emotions aren't invalidated, where you don't need to shrink yourself to make others comfortable, and where love doesn't come with the price tag of psychological warfare. If this resonates with your experience, know that your journey toward healing has already begun. Choose yourself consistently—especially when it's hard—and watch how quickly your innate power returns.

This week, Jake and Bob are joined by Teresa Pitt Green, co-founder of Spirit Fire, a ministry dedicated to “facilitating healing dialogue among those wounded by abuse in the Roman Catholic Church.” Teresa shares her own story of healing from abuse, the challenges she experienced, and what she learned along the way. She also shares practical advice to help priests approach conversations with survivors, common mistakes to avoid, and insights into the complexity of what it's like to heal from abuse. Ultimately, it is Jesus who heals, and He can use whatever we have to offer to bring about restoration in the Church and her members. If you are experiencing or have experienced abuse of any kind, we encourage you to reach out to Teresa or check out her resources on Spirit Fire's website. Key Points: Navigating conversations with survivors of abuse requires sensitivity and receptivity For many survivors of clergy abuse, there is little distinction between priests and abusers Healing from abuse is an ongoing journey, it isn't something someone can just “get over” If someone approaches you about abuse, be careful to listen and not judge their experiences Even if we make a mistake in our approach to a conversation, God can still work through that moment. He is the one who is ultimately doing the healing work The journey of healing is complex and nonlinear Resources: Spirit Fire's Website Connect with Restore the Glory: Instagram: @restoretheglorypodcast Twitter: @RestoreGloryPod Facebook: Restore the Glory Podcast Never miss out on an episode by hitting the subscribe button right now! We'd love your feedback! What resonated for you in this episode? What do you want more of?One of the most devastating consequences of coercive control and domestic abuse is the stripping away of the victim's identity and sense of self. The emotional and psychological abuse leads victims to feel incapable of doing even small tasks that may once have felt easy, let alone the belief that one can follow their dreams. What if finding a way to take that first step towards your dreams could catapult your healing? On this episode of The Rising Beyond Podcast, I talk with Lola REid Allin on how following her dreams to become a pilot allowed her to escape her abusive marriage in a time when it was shocking for a woman to leave her husband. In this episode we also discuss the harmful culture in the male dominated profession of aviation and what leads to this harassment and “boys club” culture.Lola shares her reason for writing her memoir, HIGHWAY to the SKY: An Aviator's Journey. It is a way that she can bring light to the many women's issues that prevent women from living out their dreams.About Lola: Lola Reid Allin is a survivor, former Airline Transport Pilot, pilot examiner, and the first female flight instructor at two flight schools (BC & ON), and the first woman to fly the Twin Otter (DHC6/300) for a scheduled air service, commemorated on the Wall of Women in Aviation History at the Bush Plane Museum in Sault Ste Marie. In addition, she is a SCUBA Dive Master, and an award-winning author and photographer whose work has appeared in many notable local, national, and international publications, including National Post, Globe & Mail, Toronto Star, National Geographic, Santa Fe Centre for Photography, Verge Magazine, & Grapevine Magazine. To promote the role of women in aviation and to encourage other females to consider aviation careers, Lola is a speaker with the Northern Lights Aero Foundation & the Eastern Ontario 99s Education & Outreach Committee.
