Come, Holy Spirit — Week 2: Guided Into Truth | John 16:12–15 Texts: John 16:12–15; John 16:7–8; Romans 8:26; Proverbs 3:5–6A lot of people know about the Father. They know about the Son. But when it comes to the Holy Spirit, they feel uncertain, distant, or confused. In Week 2 of Come, Holy Spirit, Miguel Plaza teaches from John 16 and reminds us that the Holy Spirit is not a mystery to avoid, but a person to know. He is not an optional extra for redeemed people. He is the gift of the redeemed age, given to guide believers into truth, convict them with love, and lead them toward God's purpose. This message unpacks who the Holy Spirit is, what He does, and why following Jesus in real life is never meant to happen by human strength alone. The Spirit comforts, convicts, guides, strengthens, and helps ordinary believers take their next step of obedience. If you have ever felt stuck, unsure, spiritually behind, or uncertain about how God leads, this message is a clear and practical invitation to be led by the Holy Spirit in everyday life. Broad River Church | Norwalk, CT Join us Sundays: 9:00 AM & 11:00 AM (English) | 1:00 PM (Español) Learn more or take your next step: https://broadriver.church/nextstepsFollow us on Instagram: @iambroadriverchurch

In this episode of The Lucas Mack Show, Lucas sits down with journalist and author John O'Connor to explore the origins of the modern psychedelic movement through the life and legacy of Terence McKenna, one of its most influential and controversial pioneers. Drawing from his new book, A Short, Strange Trip, John examines the infamous 1971 La Chorrera experiment in the Amazon and the ideas that helped shape today's growing fascination with psychedelics, plant medicine, and altered states of consciousness. The conversation moves beyond politics and headlines into deeper questions about healing, spirituality, identity, and the human search for truth. John also shares the personal story that inspired his investigation, including his father's struggle with alcoholism and attempts at psychedelic-assisted therapy. Together, Lucas and John explore how hallucinogens evolved from counterculture taboo into a mainstream wellness movement backed by clinical research, venture capital, and legislative reform, while asking an important question: when does subjective experience become accepted as truth? This is a thought-provoking conversation about belief, healing, consciousness, and the growing intersection between spirituality, psychology, and modern culture. In this powerful conversation, he explains how suffering, truth, emotional resilience, and self-leadership became the turning points that rebuilt his identity instead of destroying it.Core Value SummaryThis episode is about far more than trauma recovery. John connects masculinity, leadership, relationships, courage, critical thinking, emotional healing, and personal responsibility into one central challenge: refusing to surrender your identity to fear, shame, noise, manipulation, or despair. His message is direct — healing is not weakness, truth is not optional, and leadership begins when someone finally stops hiding from reality.Inside This Episode• Surviving childhood sexual assault and decades of hidden shame• Why climbing in the Andes changed John's understanding of fear and suffering• The traumatic brain injury that nearly destroyed his marriage and identity• How Cognitive Behavioral Therapy helped rebuild self-worth and emotional clarity• Why many people become trapped in “black hole galaxies” of blame and stagnation• The difference between competition, collaboration, and authentic masculinity• Why critical thinking and intuition both matter in chaotic times• How suffering can become fuel for leadership, contribution, and purposeGo Deeper — Premium Action PlanJohn gives listeners a practical one-week challenge built around solitude, courageous action, and intentional collaboration. For Jesus—who is Lord over all creation, who intercedes for us before the Father, who is preparing a place for us in heaven—has sent the Helper, the Spirit of Truth (John 16:5–15). “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights” through Jesus Christ (James 1:17). The Holy Spirit helps us by taking what is Christ's and declaring it to us. In the Word of truth, the Spirit works repentance and delivers to us the forgiveness of sins, the righteousness of Christ, and victory over the devil. For the ruler of this world is judged and defeated by the cross. Through the ministry of the Holy Spirit, we have been brought forth to new life in Him who is the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. Confident of our resurrection with Christ we confess, “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid” (Is. 12:2). Lectionary summary © 2021 The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. For that, the Obama administration prosecuted him under the Intelligence Identities Protection Act and sent him to federal prison for 23 months. He lost his pension. He lost his career. Most of his kids stopped speaking to him. Today he writes books, hosts a podcast, and teaches a course on the history of terrorism. We get into how the agency really works. Recruiting spies. Breaking into a house in a foreign country to plant a bug. The mentor who told him to walk up to a target's front door and sell him out to his face. Then we get into the part nobody at Langley wants to talk about. Torture. Rendition. The innocent people who got grabbed off planes and buses and never got their lives back. Today we are reading John 18:28-40 - Jesus has been brought to the Roman authority by the religious authorities, and *all* the authorities mostly seem eager to make this situation go away. The story made us wonder - Why is it so very hard to speak what is true? How can it be that the intersection of religion and political power in this story seems to make it even harder? We might think that in a criminal case, one would focus on establishing the facts. And that in a religious system, getting to the truth of things would be first and foremost on everyone's mind. But in this story, this is not what's true, and we can only wish this bore no resemblance to the world we know.

March 9, 2026 Hello and Happy Day! This is Dr. MaryAnn Diorio, Novelist and Life Coach, welcoming you to another episode of Winning with the Word. Today is Monday, March 9, 2026, and this is episode #6 in Series 2026. This episode is titled, “How to Be Free of Anxiety.” Before we get into our message, let me share a resource that will give you practical tools for getting free of anxiety once and for all. It’s my life-changing book titled Breaking the Mind Barrier, and it is Book 2 in my series titled The Winner’s Library.  Breaking the Mind Barrier is available in both print and ebook formats at the links below or in the show notes. BREAKING THE MIND BARRIER (Print)BREAKING THE MIND BARRIER (eBook) And now let’s dive right into this week’s message: How to Be Free of Anxiety. Anxiety has reached epidemic proportions in the United States and, I would dare say, pandemic proportions throughout the world. People everywhere are complaining of feeling constant anxiety about their finances, their health, their families, their jobs, and their safety in this increasingly dangerous world. Many admit a strong undercurrent of anxiety continually present in their lives but don’t know what to do about it. If this describes you, then you are in the right place at the right time. Let’s take a look at anxiety: what it is, how it enters our lives, and what to do to get rid of it. WHAT IS ANXIETY? According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, anxiety is defined as “apprehensive uneasiness or nervousness usually over an impending or anticipated misfortune.” Medically, Webster defines anxiety as “an abnormal and overwhelming sense of apprehension and fear often marked by physical signs (such as tension, sweating, and increased pulse rate), by doubt concerning the reality and nature of the threat, and by self-doubt about one’s capacity to cope with it.” Sadly, many people today fit these descriptions. Perhaps you are one of them. If so, pay close attention because, by the power of God, you can be free of anxiety once and for all. HOW ANXIETY ENTERS OUR LIVES How do we become anxious? Anxiety has its ultimate roots in the fall of man in the Garden of Eden. When sin entered the world, anxiety and fear entered with it. As descendants of Adam and Eve, we are born inheriting their sin nature. Just as parents give to their children their physical genetic makeup, so did Adam and Eve give the entire human race their spiritual genetic makeup. Hence, as Scripture says in Romans 3: 23, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” And all of us, therefore, experience the effects of sin. In an individual’s life, anxiety enters through fearful experiences, like childhood trauma, death of a loved one, especially a parent, sexual abuse, and verbal abuse. Anxiety enters from stressful family situations over an extended period of time. Anxiety can be triggered by adverse health conditions, adverse financial issues, or adverse relationship challenges. Regardless of the cause, anxiety wreaks havoc in a person’s life. If not confronted, it can lead to serious forms of physical illness—like digestive and cardiac disorders—and mental illness—like agoraphobia, panic attacks, obsessive compulsive disorder, and other phobias. Anxiety is closely linked to fear. In fact, they have the same root. According to the Bible, that root is a demonic spirit called “the spirit of fear.” In 2 Timothy 1: 7, the Bible tells us that “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” Fear does not come from God. It comes from Satan. And fear is always based on a lie because Satan is the “father of lies” (John 8: 44). Later, we will take a look at some of the lies that cause anxiety in our lives. But now, I want to explore the natural fear response in humans in the face of danger. God created man with a natural response to danger. This is normal and alerts us to protect ourselves when necessary. It is called the brain’s natural fear response. For example, we don’t cross the street when the a car is fast approaching. We wait until it passes or until the light turns green. Why? Because we have a built-in knowing that being hit by a car could kill us or seriously injure us. This is a healthful type of fear and is prompted by wisdom. But when the brain’s normal response becomes overly active, anxiety sets in. Anxiety has been called “an over-activity of the brain’s fear response.” LIES THAT CAUSE ANXIETY Anxiety is based on a lie. Discovering what those lies are in your own life is key to overcoming anxiety. Lies feed anxiety, especially lies relating to danger. For example, lies that deceive the brain into perceiving danger cause anxiety. Lies such as “bad things are going to happen to you,” or “you can’t handle this.” Believing these lies creates tremendous stress. Notice I said, BELIEVING the lies creates stress. It is not the lie that causes the stress. It is believing the lie that causes stress. Likewise, lies relating to your significance and worth can create anxiety. When we doubt that we are loved, we doubt that we are cared for and protected. When we doubt that we are cared for and protected, we grow anxious. Deep down, all of us not only want but need to know that someone loves us and cares about what happens to us. Knowing the negative effects of lies on our well-being emphasizes how important it is for us to believe the truth in order to be free of anxiety. What are some lies that cause anxiety? Here are a few: 1__There is no God. 2__God doesn’t care about me. 3__No one loves me. 4__I’m not good enough. 5__I’ll never amount to anything. 6__Something terrible is going to happen to me. 7__I am alone in the world. 8__I’m the only one who feels this way. 9__I can handle things myself. 10__Unless I do it perfectly, I won’t succeed. 11__Conflict is dangerous. 12__If I’m not anxious, I’m not being responsible. HOW TO GET RID OF ANXIETY So, how do we get rid of anxiety? While the world offers many ways to be free of anxiety—all of which give only temporary relief—I am going to share with you Biblical principles for getting rid of anxiety—principles that I have applied effectively in my own life to get rid of anxiety. I grew up in a fear-filled environment. Anxiety was the air I breathed and what I thought was normal. Yet, my entire perspective on anxiety changed when I had a personal encounter with Jesus Christ. In John 14: 6, Jesus defines Himself as the Truth. In John 8: 32, the Bible says that the truth sets us free. Through Jesus, I learned the truth, and the truth set me free from anxiety. What is the truth? The truth is what God says it is in the Bible. Nothing more. Nothing less. Here are Bible verses that expose and refute the lies that I mentioned earlier in this podcast. I will repeat the lie first and then replace it with the truth: THE LIE: God doesn’t care about me.THE TRUTH: John 3: 16 – God says He loves you and cares about you, so much so that He paid the price for your sin so that you could spend forever with Him. THE LIE: I’ll never amount to anything.THE TRUTH: Jeremiah 29: 11 – God says that his plans for you are for good and not for evil, to give you a future filled with hope. THE LIE: I’m not good enough.THE TRUTH: Romans 5: 17 – God says that Jesus has made you good enough through His death and resurrection, good enough to qualify you to go to Heaven. And it is by His Blood alone and His grace alone that we become good enough. THE LIE: I’m alone in the world.THE TRUTH: Hebrews 13: 5 – There God says that you will never be alone because He will never leave you nor forsake you. THE LIE: I’m the only one who feels this way.THE TRUTH: 1 Corinthians 10: 13 – The Bible says that other people go through situations similar to yours. You are not the only one going through what you’re going through. THE LIE: I can handle things myself.THE TRUTH: John 15: 5 – God says that without Him you can do nothing. Have you noticed the pattern here for getting free of anxiety? It is a three-step pattern: Step 1) Identify the lie.Step 2) Renounce the lie.Step 3) Replace the lie with the truth. But in order to replace the lie with the truth, you must know the truth. Jesus Christ is the Truth. He said so in John 14: 6 when He said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” My friend, anxiety does not have to be a part of your life if you have Jesus Christ in your life. If you have Truth in your life. God has freed you from anxiety and fear. He did so when He died on the Cross and rose from the dead for you. But freedom from anxiety and fear is a gift available only through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. If you don’t have that personal relationship, you will never experience true freedom from anxiety. But if you do establish a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, you can be free of every evil thing. All it takes is faith in Him. If you have been separated from Jesus Christ but want to start a relationship with Him now, let me introduce you to Him. Pray this simple prayer with me: Lord Jesus, I want to establish a relationship with You. I want to get to know you so that I can experience the freedom from anxiety and from every evil thing that You died and rose from the dead to give me. I receive You now as my Savior and Lord. Thank You for saving me. Thank you for taking the punishment for my sin. Make me like You. In Your Name I pray. Amen. If you sincerely prayed this prayer from your heart, you are now a born-again child of God. Welcome to the Family of God! A fierce animal has devoured him. Joseph is without doubt torn to pieces.””Generational Dysfunction Before This Chapter1. Abraham's GenerationDeception/Lying: Abraham twice claimed his wife, Sarah, was only his sister out of fear for his own life, putting Sarah in danger (Genesis 12:10–20; Genesis 20:1–18).Sexual Sin/Lack of Faith: Sarah encouraged Abraham to sleep with her maidservant, Hagar, to produce an heir, an act outside of God's original plan for marriage, leading to significant strife (Genesis 16).2. Isaac's GenerationFavoritism: Both Isaac and Rebekah practiced favoritism toward their sons, which laid the foundation for future division and conflict in the family.Isaac loved Esau because he enjoyed his wild game, while Rebekah loved Jacob (Genesis 25:28).3. Jacob's GenerationDeception/Lying: Rebekah and Jacob conspired to deceive Isaac, who was old and blind, so that Jacob could steal the spiritual and material blessing intended for his older brother, Esau (Genesis 27).Sibling Rivalry/Malice: The deception led to intense hatred, causing Esau to vow to kill Jacob, forcing Jacob to flee the land (Genesis 27:41).4. Jacob (Israel)'s Sons' GenerationViolence and Malice: Simeon and Levi committed a treacherous act of murder against the entire male population of Shechem in revenge for the rape of their sister, Dinah (Genesis 34). Jacob later condemned their anger and violence on his deathbed (Genesis 49:5–7).Sexual Sin/Violation of Authority: Reuben, Jacob's firstborn, slept with his father's concubine, Bilhah. This gross violation of patriarchal authority and sexual purity resulted in him losing his preeminence and birthright (Genesis 35:22; Genesis 49:3–4).Favoritism, Hatred, and Violence:Jacob repeated the sin of his parents by practicing blatant favoritism, loving Joseph more than his other sons and giving him the famous "robe of many colors" (Genesis 37:3).The brothers' jealousy and hatred grew, leading them to plot to kill Joseph and ultimately selling him into slavery to passing traders (Genesis 37:4, 18–28).Deception/Lying: To conceal their crime, the brothers dipped Joseph's robe in goat's blood and lied to their father, causing him prolonged grief (Genesis 37:31–35).Deception and Sexual Sin (Judah): Judah, one of the brothers, had his own history of sexual sin when he mistakenly slept with his widowed daughter-in-law, Tamar, who disguised herself as a prostitute after he had refused to give her his third son in marriage (Genesis 38).DYSFUNCTION: Misalignment With God's WordWe All Unknowingly Grow Up In A Level Of DysfunctionWe Recognize It When It “Gets On Us”We Struggle To Recognize When It “Gets In Us”Part Of Discipleship Is The Transformation Of Our DysfunctionOvercoming Family Dysfunction: Live In The WordThe Word Brings Spiritual Life - Matthew 4:3–4 (ESV) And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” But he answered, “It is written, “ ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.' ”Manna - Exodus 16:19–21 (ESV) And Moses said to them, “Let no one leave any of it over till the morning.” But they did not listen to Moses. Some left part of it till the morning, and it bred worms and stank. And Moses was angry with them. Morning by morning they gathered it, each as much as he could eat; but when the sun grew hot, it melted. The Word Reveals Dysfunction Within You - James 1:23–25 (ESV) For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.Following Jesus, some of it will just fall offThe Word will reveal a manageable load at a time that is still attacjedDaily reading is like the finest of sandpaper - it hurts lessBeing in a Bible preaching/teaching church will expose chunksPodcasts/Books will help to fine tuneThe Word Reveals Dysfunction Around You - Hebrews 4:12–13 (ESV) For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Speaker: Rob SteeleIn John 16:12–15, Jesus promises that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth who continues His work by guiding us and glorifying Christ. In the sorrow-filled moments of the Upper Room, Jesus reminds His disciples—and us—that we are not left alone, but given the Spirit to reveal truth, illuminate Scripture, and help us understand what we could not yet bear. The Holy Spirit never draws attention to Himself, but faithfully declares what belongs to Jesus, always exalting Christ and His saving work. This teaching invites us to respond by trusting Jesus in our sorrow, submitting to God's Word, and allowing the Spirit to shape our lives for the glory of Christ.Need Prayer?

“GOD, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; 3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right and of the Majesty on high, 4 having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.” Hebrews 1:1-4 “Hebrews is basically a book that encourages [exhorts] discouraged Christians to continue on strong with Jesus in light of the complete superiority of who He is and what He did for us.”- David Guzik. The messenger vs. the message “Are they (angels) not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?” Hebrews 1:14. “GOD, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets…” the message > the messengerChrist is not another messenger. He is the message“GOD, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son” Hebrews 1:1-2. “The Bible is the record of the different places and different ways by which God has spoken to man. In the book of Genesis, we find God speaking to man by angels; they were the messengers…then God began to speak through anointed men such as Moses and Joshua…. Then God spoke to them through priests…then as time progressed God raised up prophets…But God's final revelation was given to man through Jesus Christ. Jesus came to bring man the final, the ultimate message of God. The ultimate understanding of God. So, all that man is to know about God can be discovered in and through Jesus Christ. This revelation is superior than all of the other revelations. His revelation through the Son is superior than the revelation through the angels.”- Chuck Smith.“39 You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.” John 5:39“It isn't so much that Jesus brought a message from the Father; He is a message from the Father. If you default to one or the other, is it grace or truth? These defaults can show up in our marriages, parenting tactics, politics, and generally how we view ourselves and the world around us. Where does God default, or does He? The passage we are unpacking today beautifully shows us that God is a God of grace & truth. Let's let this truth sink in today!

In today's homily, Fr. Matt offers a sobering reminder: a nation cannot survive spiritually if its people abandon truth. As Catholics, we are called not only to believe the faith, but to study it, to guard it, and to allow it to shape our daily lives. The Church teaches that the Holy Spirit is the “Spirit of Truth” (John 14:17), and when we invite Him into our hearts, He strengthens us to love what is good, reject what is false, and persevere through every trial. This is why the Catechism says that life in Christ transforms the whole of our existence (CCC 1691).Fr. Matt reminds us that a country's spiritual health depends on the conversion of its people. We must let the Holy Spirit place divine truth on our hearts—not as an idea, but as a lived reality. St. Paul wrote, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind” (Rom 12:2). A renewed mind becomes a renewed family, a renewed Church, and a renewed nation. We are called to pray deeply for our country, not in despair, but with hope rooted in Divine Mercy. In moments of darkness, the Lord asks us to return to His Heart, where truth and mercy are never separated. In this episode of Christ the Center, Camden Bucey and Lane Tipton explore Geerhardus Vos's profound treatment of faith in the Gospel of John (pp. 390–392 of Biblical Theology). Vos unfolds faith not as an abstract belief but as a living, continuous union with the incarnate and ascended Truth—Jesus Christ Himself. John's theology binds faith and truth together: the Son comes down from heaven as the true light, true bread, true vine, and the Truth (John 1:9; 6:32; 15:1; 14:6). Faith, therefore, is a Spirit-wrought communion with the heavenly reality revealed in Him. Tipton and Bucey trace how this Johannine vision lifts believers from the shadowy worship of the old covenant to true, eschatological worship "in spirit and in truth." Faith beholds Christ even now, anticipating the beatific vision. In contrast to philosophical or impersonal notions of truth, Vos insists that truth is personal, Trinitarian, and heavenly—rooted in the self-revealing God. Thus, saving faith is not blind trust but an intimate, knowing participation in the life of the risen Christ, a foretaste of the age to come. The Holy Spirit Guides Us into Truth | John 16:13

Daily Devotions From Greg Laurie

“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.” (John 16:13 NLT) “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth.” One of the core truths that the Holy Spirit guides us into involves righteousness. If you were to ask a random assortment of people whether they consider themselves righteous, most would probably say yes. Most people like to think of themselves as good, relatively speaking. Most people also recognize that there are certain plateaus of goodness. At the top are the saints who sacrifice almost everything to help others. Their goodness puts everyone else to shame, although they would be much too humble to ever acknowledge that. Most of us resign ourselves to the fact that we will never reach their level of righteousness. So, we settle for good enough. We say things like, “I may not always be an angel, but I’m not a devil either,” or “At least I’m not as bad as certain other people,” or “I may not be perfect, but I have a good heart.” We treat righteousness like the cut line in a golf tournament. We just have to be good enough—or just a little better than others. The problem is that, when it comes to righteousness, perfection is the cut line. That’s the truth the Holy Spirit guides us into. The apostle Paul wrote, “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard” (Romans 3:23 NLT). In Jesus’ day, the scribes and Pharisees were revered for their righteousness. They spent their days contemplating and debating the smallest details of God’s law. They observed every ritual. They held themselves to the highest religious standards. Yet Jesus said, “But I warn you—unless your righteousness is better than the righteousness of the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven!” (Matthew 5:20 NLT). I remember the first time I read that as a young Christian. I thought, “Now wait a second. Weren’t the Pharisees extremely devout men? How could my righteousness exceed theirs?” Here’s how: Theirs was a false righteousness. Theirs was a self-righteousness. Even their best efforts fell far short of God’s standard of perfection. The Holy Spirit says, “You are not righteous enough on your own. You need the righteousness of Christ imputed into your account because you are a sinner. But if you will trust in Jesus, this righteousness will be given to you.” If we repent, ask God to forgive our sins, and receive Christ as Savior and Lord, we receive His righteousness. So, when God looks at us, He sees the perfect righteousness of His Son. And He welcomes us into His presence forever. That’s the truth the Holy Spirit guides us into. Reflection question: How would you respond to someone who said, “I’m going to Heaven when I die because I’m a good person”?
