Let us go with haste and adore Him in the crib.

11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd giveth his life for his sheep.Ego sum pastor bonus. 13 And after they were departed, behold an angel of the Lord appeared in sleep to Joseph, saying: Arise, and take the child and his mother, and fly into Egypt: and be there until I shall tell thee. Third Day in the Octave of Christmas19 And this he said, signifying by what death he should glorify God. Et cum hoc dixisset, dicit ei : Sequere me. 20 Peter turning about, saw that disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also leaned on his breast at supper, and said: Lord, who is he that shall betray thee?Conversus Petrus vidit illum discipulum, quem diligebat Jesus, sequentem, qui et recubuit in coena super pectus ejus, et dixit : Domine, quis est qui tradet te? 21 Him therefore when Peter had seen, he saith to Jesus: Lord, and what shall this man do?Hunc ergo cum vidisset Petrus, dixit Jesu : Domine, hic autem quid? 22 Jesus saith to him: So I will have him to remain till I come, what is it to thee? follow thou me.Dicit ei Jesus : Sic eum volo manere donec veniam, quid ad te? tu me sequere. 23 This saying therefore went abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die. And Jesus did not say to him: He should not die; but, So I will have him to remain till I come, what is it to thee?Exiit ergo sermo iste inter fratres quia discipulus ille non moritur. Et non dixit ei Jesus : Non moritur, sed : Sic eum volo manere donec veniam, quid ad te? 24 This is that disciple who giveth testimony of these things, and hath written these things; and we know that his testimony is true.Hic est discipulus ille qui testimonium perhibet de his, et scripsit haec : et scimus quia verum est testimonium ejus.St John is the virgin Apostle, crowned with the halo of those who knew how to conquer their flesh; for this reason, he became "the disciple whom Jesus loved." Thanks to his angelic purity, he imbibed that wholesome wisdom of which that Epistle of which the Mass speaks and which has given to him the halo of the Doctors. Finally he received the halo of the Martyrs, since he barely escaped a violent death. It is to St John, who wrote a Gospel, three Epistles, and the Apocalypse, that we owe the most beautiful pages on the Divinity on the Word made flesh, and it is for this reason that the virgin Apostle is symbolised by the eagle. His name is mentioned with the other Apostles' names in the Canon of the Mass. St John the Evangelist departed this life at Ephesus. (101).

34 Therefore behold I send to you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them you will put to death and crucify, and some you will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city:  35 That upon you may come all the just blood that hath been shed upon the earth, from the blood of Abel the just, even unto the blood of Zacharias the son of Barachias, whom you killed between the temple and the altar.[35] "That upon you may come": Not that they should suffer more than their own sins justly deserved; but that the justice of God should now fall upon them with such a final vengeance, once for all, as might comprise all the different kinds of judgments and punishments, that had at any time before been inflicted for the shedding of just blood. 36 Amen I say to you, all these things shall come upon this generation.  37 Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered together thy children, as the hen doth gather her chickens under her wings, and thou wouldest not?  38 Behold, your house shall be left to you, desolate.  39 For I say to you, you shall not see me henceforth till you say: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the LordSteven, one of the seven Deacons, chosen by the Apostles amongst the most pious and holy disciples, to help them, received them mission to organize the meals where the poor were fed in common. St Steven was renowned for his virtues and worked such great signs and wonders among the people that the Jews from five different synagogues became alarmed and summoned him before the Sanhedrin. The Jews stoned this holy Deacon, who invoked our Lord, saying: "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit... Lord, lay not this sin to their charge." His name is inscribed in the canon of the Mass.

 18 Now the generation of Christ was in this wise.  39 And Mary rising up in those days, went into the hill country with haste into a city of Juda.Exsurgens autem Maria in diebus illis, abiit in montana cum festinatione, in civitatem Juda : 40 And she entered into the house of Zachary, and saluted Elizabeth.et intravit in domum Zachariae, et salutavit Elisabeth. 41 And it came to pass, that when Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the infant leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:Et factum est, ut audivit salutationem Mariae Elisabeth, exsultavit infans in utero ejus : et repleta est Spiritu Sancto Elisabeth : 42 And she cried out with a loud voice, and said: Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.et exclamavit voce magna, et dixit : Benedicta tu inter mulieres, et benedictus fructus ventris tui. 43 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?Et unde hoc mihi, ut veniat mater Domini mei ad me? 44 For behold as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.Ecce enim ut facta est vox salutationis tuae in auribus meis, exsultavit in gaudio infans in utero meo. 45 And blessed art thou that hast believed, because those things shall be accomplished that were spoken to thee by the Lord.Et beata, quae credidisti, quoniam perficientur ea, quae dicta sunt tibi a Domino. 46 And Mary said: My soul doth magnify the Lord.Et ait Maria : Magnificat anima mea Dominum : 47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.et exsultavit spiritus meus in Deo salutari meo

19 And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent from Jerusalem priests and Levites to him, to ask him: Who art thou?Et hoc est testimonium Joannis, quando miserunt Judaei ab Jerosolymis sacerdotes et Levitas ad eum ut interrogarent eum : Tu quis es? 20 And he confessed, and did not deny: and he confessed: I am not the Christ.Et confessus est, et non negavit, et confessus est : Quia non sum ego Christus. 21 And they asked him: What then? Art thou Elias? And he said: I am not. Art thou the prophet? And he answered: No.Et interrogaverunt eum : Quid ergo? Elias es tu? Et dixit : Non sum. Propheta es tu? Et respondit : Non. 22 They said therefore unto him: Who art thou, that we may give an answer to them that sent us? And therefore also the Holy which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.Et respondens angelus dixit ei : Spiritus Sanctus superveniet in te, et virtus Altissimi obumbrabit tibi. Ideoque et quod nascetur ex te sanctum, vocabitur Filius Dei. 36 And behold thy cousin Elizabeth, she also hath conceived a son in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her that is called barren:Et ecce Elisabeth cognata tua, et ipsa concepit filium in senectute sua : et hic mensis sextus est illi, quae vocatur sterilis : 37 Because no word shall be impossible with God.quia non erit impossibile apud Deum omne verbum. 38 And Mary said: Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it done to me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.Dixit autem Maria : Ecce ancilla Domini : fiat mihi secundum verbum tuum. Et discessit ab illa angelus.

“16:24. Then Jesus said to his disciples: If any man will come after me,let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.16:25. For he that will save his life, shall lose it: and he that shalllose his life for my sake, shall find it.16:26. For what doth it profit a man, if he gain the whole world andsuffer the loss of his own soul? Or what exchange shall a man give forhis soul?16:27. For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father withhis angels: and then will he render to every man according to hisworks.”

 44 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hidden in a field. To enter Heaven we must keep our soul without sin, or have it washed clean again by sorrow and confession.

The Emperor Maximian assembled learned men to bring her to the worship of idols, but they were converted to Christianity. Maximian then ordered her to be beheaded afer many cruel torments A.D. 305.

13 You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt lose its savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is good for nothing any more but to be cast out, and to be trodden on by men.Vos estis sal terrae. Quod si sal evanuerit, in quo salietur? ad nihilum valet ultra, nisi ut mittatur foras, et conculcetur ab hominibus. 14 You are the light of the world. A city seated on a mountain cannot be hid.Vos estis lux mundi. But he that shall do and teach, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.Qui ergo solverit unum de mandatis istis minimis, et docuerit sic homines, minimus vocabitur in regno caelorum : qui autem fecerit et docuerit, hic magnus vocabitur in regno caelorum.St John of the Cross was the fellow worker of St Teresa in the reform of the Order of Mt Carmel. A poet, he wrote invaluable treatises on mystical theology. He died A.D. 1591.

She was born in Joachim's house near the Probatica, and was presented in the temple. Thereupon "planted in the house of God" and nurtured by His Spirit, like a fruitful olive tree she flowered forth in all virtues.

32 Fear not, little flock, for it hath pleased your Father to give you a kingdom.Nolite timere pusillus grex, quia complacuit Patri vestro dare vobis regnum. 33 Sell what you possess and give alms. Make to yourselves bags which grow not old, a treasure in heaven which faileth not: where no thief approacheth, nor moth corrupteth.Vendite quae possidetis, et date eleemosynam. Facite vobis sacculos, qui non veterascunt, thesaurum non deficientem in caelis : quo fur non appropriat, neque tinea corrumpit. 34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.Ubi enim thesaurus vester est, ibi et cor vestrum erit.St Felix, of the royal family of France, with St John of Matha founded the Order of Trinitarians for the ransom of captives. He died A.D. 1212.

44 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hidden in a field. After the death of her husband, she entered the Third Order of St Francis and died in poverty and humiliation, exiled by her brother-in-law A.D. 1231.

They were consecrated by St Sylvester on November 18 A.D. 325.

He died famous for his missionary labors A.D. 276.

“9:18. As he was speaking these things unto them, behold a certain rulercame up, and adored him, saying: Lord, my daughter is even now dead;but come, lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.“9:19. And Jesus rising up followed him, with his disciples.9:20. And behold a woman who was troubled with an issue of blood twelveyears, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment.9:21. For she said within herself: If I shall touch only his garment, Ishall be healed.9:22. But Jesus turning and seeing her, said: Be of good heart,daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made wholefrom that hour.9:23. And when Jesus was come into the house of the ruler, and saw theminstrels and the multitude making a rout,9:24. He said: Give place, for the girl is not dead, but sleepeth. Andthey laughed him to scorn.9:25. And when the multitude was put forth, he went in, and took her bythe hand. And the maid arose.9:26. And the fame hereof went abroad into all that country.”

13 You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt lose its savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is good for nothing any more but to be cast out, and to be trodden on by men.Vos estis sal terrae. But he that shall do and teach, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.Qui ergo solverit unum de mandatis istis minimis, et docuerit sic homines, minimus vocabitur in regno caelorum : qui autem fecerit et docuerit, hic magnus vocabitur in regno caelorum.St Albert was a famous member of the Order of Preachers, noted for his universal learning, and apostolic zeal and devotion. He had for his pupil the celebrated St Thomas Aquinas of the same Order, and left numerous writings. He became Bishop of Ratisbon, and died A.D. 1280, being canonised and declared Doctor of the Church in 1931.

 11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd giveth his life for his sheep.Ego sum pastor bonus. Bonus pastor animam suam dat pro ovibus suis. 12 But the hireling, and he that is not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and flieth: and the wolf catcheth, and scattereth the sheep:Mercenarius autem, et qui non est pastor, cujus non sunt oves propriae, videt lupum venientem, et dimittit oves, et fugit : et lupus rapit, et dispergit oves; 13 And the hireling flieth, because he is a hireling: and he hath no care for the sheep.mercenarius autem fugit, quia mercenarius est, et non pertinet ad eum de ovibus. 14 I am the good shepherd; and I know mine, and mine know me.Ego sum pastor bonus : et cognosco meas, et cognoscunt me meae. 15 As the Father knoweth me, and I know the Father: and I lay down my life for my sheep.Sicut novit me Pater, et ego agnosco Patrem : et animam meam pono pro ovibus meis. 16 And other sheep I have, that are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold and one shepherd.Et alias oves habeo, quae non sunt ex hoc ovili : et illas oportet me adducere, et vocem meam audient, et fiet unum ovile et unus pastor.Thank you Jesus, for giving up your life for me.St Josaphat, a monk of the Order of St Basil and afterwards Archbishop of Polotsk, laboured for the reunion of the Greek Church with the Church of Rome. He was murdered by his enemies in A.D. 1623.

32 Fear not, little flock, for it hath pleased your Father to give you a kingdom.Nolite timere pusillus grex, quia complacuit Patri vestro dare vobis regnum. 33 Sell what you possess and give alms. Make to yourselves bags which grow not old, a treasure in heaven which faileth not: where no thief approacheth, nor moth corrupteth.Vendite quae possidetis, et date eleemosynam. Facite vobis sacculos, qui non veterascunt, thesaurum non deficientem in caelis : quo fur non appropriat, neque tinea corrumpit. 34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.Ubi enim thesaurus vester est, ibi et cor vestrum erit.St Didacus, a Franciscan lay brother, died in Spain in the odour of Sanctity A.D. 1463.
