To enter Heaven we must keep our soul without sin, or have it washed clean again by sorrow and confession.

The spiritual and temporal needs of his flock were the first object of his pastoral care. This worker of miracles died A.D. 342; his body was eventually enshrined at Bari in Italy.

 25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, by reason of the confusion of the roaring of the sea and of the waves;Et erunt signa in sole, et luna, et stellis, et in terris pressura gentium prae confusione sonitus maris, et fluctuum : 26 Men withering away for fear, and expectation of what shall come upon the whole world.  13 You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt lose its savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is good for nothing any more but to be cast out, and to be trodden on by men.Vos estis sal terrae. But he that shall do and teach, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.Qui ergo solverit unum de mandatis istis minimis, et docuerit sic homines, minimus vocabitur in regno caelorum : qui autem fecerit et docuerit, hic magnus vocabitur in regno caelorum.The holy Bishop of Ravenna was one of the most eloquent preachers of the Church (Chrysologos means "golden speech"). He died at Imola A.D. 450.

15 And he said to them: Go ye into the whole world, and preach the gospel to every creature.Et dixit eis : Euntes in mundum universum praedicate Evangelium omni creaturae. 16 He that believeth and is baptized, shall be saved: but he that believeth not shall be condemned.Qui crediderit, et baptizatus fuerit, salvus erit : qui vero non crediderit, condemnabitur. 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe: In my name they shall cast out devils: they shall speak with new tongues.Signa autem eos qui crediderint, haec sequentur : in nomine meo daemonia ejicient : linguis loquentur novis : 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they shall drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them: they shall lay their hands upon the sick, and they shall recover.serpentes tollent : et si mortiferum quid biberint, non eis nocebit : super aegros manus imponent, et bene habebunt.One of the first companions of St Ignatius Loyola, St Francis Xavier, one of the greatest missionaries of all time, preached the Gospel in India and in Japan. He converted innumerable pagans and died in 1552 on his way to China.

44 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hidden in a field. 27 And it came to pass, as he spoke these things, a certain woman from the crowd, lifting up her voice, said to him: Blessed is the womb that bore thee, and the paps that gave thee suck.Factum est autem, cum haec diceret : extollens vocem quaedam mulier de turba dixit illi : Beatus venter qui te portavit, et ubera quae suxisti. 28 But he said: Yea rather, blessed are they who hear the word of God, and keep it.At ille dixit : Quinimmo beati, qui audiunt verbum Dei et custodiunt illud.

 15 When therefore you shall see the abomination of desolation, which was spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place: he that readeth let him understand. 16 Then they that are in Judea, let them flee to the mountains:  17 And he that is on the housetop, let him not come down to take any thing out of his house:  18 And he that is in the field, let him not go back to take his coat.  19 And woe to them that are with child, and that give suck in those days.  20 But pray that your flight be not in the winter, or on the sabbath. 21 For there shall be then great tribulation, such as hath not been from the beginning of the world until now, neither shall be.  22 And unless those days had been shortened, no flesh should be saved: but for the sake of the elect those days shall be shortened.  23 Then if any man shall say to you: Lo here is Christ, or there, do not believe him.  24 For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders, insomuch as to deceive (if possible) even the elect.  25 Behold I have told it to you, beforehand. 26 If therefore they shall say to you: Behold he is in the desert, go ye not out: Behold he is in the closets, believe it not.  27 For as lightning cometh out of the east, and appeareth even into the west: so shall the coming of the Son of man be.  28 Wheresoever the body shall be, there shall the eagles also be gathered together.  29 And immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun shall be darkened and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of heaven shall be moved:  30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all tribes of the earth mourn: and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with much power and majesty.[28] "Wheresoever": The coming of Christ shall be sudden, and manifest to all the world, like lightning: and wheresoever he shall come, thither shall all mankind be gathered to him, as eagles are gathered about a dead body.[29] "The stars": Or flaming meteors resembling stars.[30] "The sign": The cross of Christ. 31 And he shall send his angels with a trumpet, and a great voice: and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the farthest parts of the heavens to the utmost bounds of them.  32 And from the fig tree learn a parable: When the branch thereof is now tender, and the leaves come forth, you know that summer is nigh.  33 So you also, when you shall see all these things, know ye that it is nigh, even at the doors.  34 Amen I say to you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.  35 Heaven and earth shall pass, but my words shall not pass.[35] "Shall pass": Because they shall be changed at the end of the world into a new heaven and new earth.

He died at the age of ninety A.D. 1267.

The Emperor Maximian assembled learned men to bring her to the worship of idols, but they were converted to Christianity. Maximian then ordered her to be beheaded afer many cruel torments A.D. 305.

A poet, he wrote invaluable treatises on mystical theology. He died A.D. 1591.

13 But he that shall persevere to the end, he shall be saved.  14 And this gospel of the kingdom, shall be preached in the whole world, for a testimony to all nations, and then shall the consummation come.  15 When therefore you shall see the abomination of desolation, which was spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place: he that readeth let him understand. 16 Then they that are in Judea, let them flee to the mountains:  17 And he that is on the housetop, let him not come down to take any thing out of his house:  18 And he that is in the field, let him not go back to take his coat.  19 And woe to them that are with child, and that give suck in those days.  20 But pray that your flight be not in the winter, or on the sabbath. 21 For there shall be then great tribulation, such as hath not been from the beginning of the world until now, neither shall be.  22 And unless those days had been shortened, no flesh should be saved: but for the sake of the elect those days shall be shortened.  23 Then if any man shall say to you: Lo here is Christ, or there, do not believe him.  24 For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders, insomuch as to deceive (if possible) even the elect.  25 Behold I have told it to you, beforehand. 26 If therefore they shall say to you: Behold he is in the desert, go ye not out: Behold he is in the closets, believe it not.  27 For as lightning cometh out of the east, and appeareth even into the west: so shall the coming of the Son of man be.  28 Wheresoever the body shall be, there shall the eagles also be gathered together.  29 And immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun shall be darkened and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of heaven shall be moved:  30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all tribes of the earth mourn: and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with much power and majesty.[28] "Wheresoever": The coming of Christ shall be sudden, and manifest to all the world, like lightning: and wheresoever he shall come, thither shall all mankind be gathered to him, as eagles are gathered about a dead body.[29] "The stars": Or flaming meteors resembling stars.[30] "The sign": The cross of Christ. 31 And he shall send his angels with a trumpet, and a great voice: and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the farthest parts of the heavens to the utmost bounds of them.  32 And from the fig tree learn a parable: When the branch thereof is now tender, and the leaves come forth, you know that summer is nigh.  33 So you also, when you shall see all these things, know ye that it is nigh, even at the doors.  34 Amen I say to you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.  35 Heaven and earth shall pass, but my words shall not pass.[35] "Shall pass": Because they shall be changed at the end of the world into a new heaven and new earth.Jesus foretells the destruction of the world, and his second Advent, when all nations shall see the eternal Judge coming with power and majesty in the clouds of heaven.

27 And it came to pass, as he spoke these things, a certain woman from the crowd, lifting up her voice, said to him: Blessed is the womb that bore thee, and the paps that gave thee suck.Factum est autem, cum haec diceret : extollens vocem quaedam mulier de turba dixit illi : Beatus venter qui te portavit, et ubera quae suxisti. 28 But he said: Yea rather, blessed are they who hear the word of God, and keep it.At ille dixit : Quinimmo beati, qui audiunt verbum Dei et custodiunt illud.Truly Mary became the Lady above all creation in her role as the Mother of the Creator. After the death of her husband, she entered the Third Order of St Francis and died in poverty and humiliation, exiled by her brother-in-law A.D. 1231.

For she said within herself: If I shall touch only his garment, Ishall be healed.9:22. But Jesus turning and seeing her, said: Be of good heart,daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole. He had for his pupil the celebrated St Thomas Aquinas of the same Order, and left numerous writings. He became Bishop of Ratisbon, and died A.D. 1280, being canonised and declared Doctor of the Church in 1931.

 11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd giveth his life for his sheep.Ego sum pastor bonus. 33 No man lighteth a candle, and putteth it in a hidden place, nor under a bushel; but upon a candlestick, that they that come in, may see the light.Nemo lucernam accendit, et in abscondito ponit, neque sub modio : sed supra candelabrum, ut qui ingrediuntur, lumen videant. 34 The light of thy body is thy eye. If we pardon our brethren from the bottom of our hearts, our Lord Jesus Christ will remit our debts.

Charity towards our brother is one of the principal precepts of our Lord Jesus Christ.

He reformed the clergy and renewed the spirit of the moasteries in his diocese. He died A.D. 1584.

 25 Amen, amen I say unto you, that the hour cometh, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and they that hear shall live.Amen, amen dico vobis, quia venit hora, et nunc est, quando mortui audient vocem Filii Dei : et qui audierint, vivent. 26 For as the Father hath life in himself, so he hath given the Son also to have life in himself:Sicut enim Pater habet vitam in semetipso, sic dedit et Filio habere vitam in semetipso : 27 And he hath given him power to do judgment, because he is the Son of man.et potestatem dedit ei judicium facere, quia Filius hominis est. 28 Wonder not at this; for the hour cometh, wherein all that are in the graves shall hear the voice of the Son of God.Nolite mirari hoc, quia venit hora in qua omnes qui in monumentis sunt audient vocem Filii Dei : 29 And they that have done good things, shall come forth unto the resurrection of life; but they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of judgment.et procedent qui bona fecerunt, in resurrectionem vitae; qui vero mala egerunt, in resurrectionem judicii.The practice of recommending to God the souls of the departed in that we may mitigate the great pains that they suffer, and that He may soon bring them to His glory, is most pleasing to God and most profitable to us. For those blessed souls are His eternal spouses, and they are most grateful to those who obtain their deliverance from prison, or even a mitigation of their torments. Hence, when they shall enter into heaven, they will certainly not forget those who prayed for them. It is a pious belief that God manifests to them our prayers for them, that they also may pray for us. Let us recommend to Jesus Christ , and to His holy Mother, all the souls in Purgatory, but especially those of our relatives, benefactors, friends, and enemies, and, still more particularly, the souls of those for whom we are bound to pray; and let us consider the great pains which those holy spouses of Jesus Christ endure, and offer to God for their relief the Masses of this day.

For so they persecuted the prophets that were before you.gaudete, et exsultate, quoniam merces vestra copiosa est in caelis. Sic enim persecuti sunt prophetas, qui fuerunt ante vos.We can pay no greater honor to the Saints than by offering up to God in their name the Blood of Jesus. The efficacy of their past merits and present prayers is greatly increased when offered to God in close association with the merits and prayers of our Lord. Therefore the Church commemorates on this day all the Saints in heaven without exception , and thus honors also those who are unknown and who have no public recognition in the Liturgy.

Thy own nation, and the chief priests, have delivered thee up to me: what hast thou done?Respondit Pilatus : Numquid ego Judaeus sum? gens tua et pontifices tradiderunt te mihi : quid fecisti? 36 Jesus answered: My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would certainly strive that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now my kingdom is not from hence.Respondit Jesus : Regnum meum non est de hoc mundo. They both suffered martyrdom in Persia in the fist century. St Jude wrote a short Epistle in which he exhorts the faithful to beware heretics.

Converted, he became the missionary companion of St Paul, who called him "the most dear physician" and "his fellow laborour". After the death of his teacher, according to reliable authority, he preached the Gospel in Achaia, where he died at a ripe old age. He earned undying glory by his writing of the Third Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles.
