This apostolic king won over his enemies and converted his people to Christianity. He died famous for his justice and his boundless charity A.D. 1038.

Discovered by King Theodoric, he founded a renowned monastery and was so famous on account of his miracles that a great number of churches were dedicated to him. He died in the sixth century.

She was born at Lima in Peru. Too feeble for the monastic life, she lived a life of severe mortification as a Tertiary of St Dominic and died at the age of thirty years. A.D. 1617.

The adulterous Herodias and her shameless daughter Salome forced Herod to behead the Precursor. The Gospel of the Mass describes his martyrdom.

His mind was ensnared by errors and his soul and his body corrupted by debauchery and impurity. Converted by the prayers of his mother, he became one of the most famous Doctors of the West and a Father of the Church. He died after an episcopate of 36 years at Hippo (Africa) A.D. 430.

He died at the age of 92 A.D. 1648.

He entered the Order of the Servites as a lay brother. Ordained a priest, he was made General of his Order.

In all other children of Adam original sin prevented the divine generosity from having a free course. But Mary was created immaculate, and therefore the grace of God streamed into her soul without check or hindrance. Her sinlessness, her heavenly purity, directed every action, every moment to God. Her Heart was the pattern and model of all virtues, of all purity! "Blessed are the pure in heart!"

Their relics are kept at Rome in the Church of St Peter's Chains.

During his long convalescence his reading of the lives of the Saints revealed to him that the Church militant needed an army of glorious soldiers to fight the forces combined against it; Pagans, Mohammedans, Protestants, etc. He founded the Society of Jesus and as first General of this new spiritual chivalry he moved to the attack under the motto: "Ad majorem Dei gloriam--To the greater glory of God!" He died with the Holy Name of Jesus on his lips A.D. 1556.

Who stood and said: Lord, hast thou no care that my sister hath left me alone to serve? speak to her therefore, that she help me.Martha autem satagebat circa frequens ministerium : quae stetit, et ait : Domine, non est tibi curae quod soror mea reliquit me solam ministrare? dic ergo illi ut me adjuvet. 41 And the Lord answering, said to her: Martha, Martha, thou art careful, and art troubled about many things:Et respondens dixit illis Dominus : Martha, Martha, sollicita es, et turbaris erga plurima, 42 But one thing is necessary. Mary hath chosen the best part, which shall not be taken away from her.porro unum est necessarium. Maria optimam partem elegit, quae non auferetur ab ea.Martha, sister of Mary Magdalen and Lazarus, lived at Bethany a humble active life. She often gave hospitality to our Lord. According to one account they ended their days at Marseilles-St Lazarus as Bishop, St Mary Magdalen as anchoress, St Martha as head of a small community of holy women.

They were beheaded A.D. 67. St Victor, successor of St Eleutherius, was martyred under Septimus Serverus A.D. 199.Having, like his contemporaries St Jerome and St Augustine, fought with his pen and his elegance for the teaching of Christ, St Innocent, the successor of St Anastasius, died A.D. 417.

Devotion to St Anne has increased very much in the whole Church.

He was consecrated bishop of Ravenna and preached the Gospel of Christ amidst many persecutions, including prison and exile. The Apostle of Ravenna was beaten to death A.D. 79.
36 And one of the Pharisees desired him to eat with him. And he went into the house of the Pharisee, and sat down to meat.Rogabat autem illum quidam de pharisaeis ut manducaret cum illo. First a sinner, she was converted by our Lord, who raised Lazarus at her prayer. She stood at the Cross "till our Lord sent forth His Spirit", After His Victory, Christ showed Himself to Magdalen and made her his messenger to announce His Resurrection to the Apostles.
13 You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt lose its savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is good for nothing any more but to be cast out, and to be trodden on by men.Vos estis sal terrae. But he that shall do and teach, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.Qui ergo solverit unum de mandatis istis minimis, et docuerit sic homines, minimus vocabitur in regno caelorum : qui autem fecerit et docuerit, hic magnus vocabitur in regno caelorum.St Lawrence of Brindisi, a Capuchin friar who for some years ruled his whole Order, acquired great fame for learning and eloquence, and labored with remarkable success through most parts of Europe preaching to Catholics, to Protestants, and to Jews. When 80,000 Turks invaded Hungary in 1605, he it was who inspired the united Christian armies of 18,000 men to the attack and himself led them to complete victory riding before them bearing a large cross. He died in Lisbon in 1611.

He foreshadows how He will feed the souls of men by means of the Holy Sacrament-The True Bread from heaven.

He was the founder of the Lazarists, or the Priests of the Mission, and of the Sisters of Charity. He died A.D. 1660.

He founded an Order of Hospitallers, which bears his name, and died a victim of his charity A.D. 1614.

27 And it came to pass, as he spoke these things, a certain woman from the crowd, lifting up her voice, said to him: Blessed is the womb that bore thee, and the paps that gave thee suck.Factum est autem, cum haec diceret : extollens vocem quaedam mulier de turba dixit illi : Beatus venter qui te portavit, et ubera quae suxisti. 28 But he said: Yea rather, blessed are they who hear the word of God, and keep it.At ille dixit : Quinimmo beati, qui audiunt verbum Dei et custodiunt illud.Today are commemorated the favors granted to the Brothers of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, successors to those early Christians who built a chapel in her honour on Mount Carmel. The institution and habit of the Carmelite Order as now known are due to Our Lady's instructions first to St Simon Stock and later to Pope Honorius III. She promised special protection in life and after death to all who adobted the Tertiaary's rule of life and wore her habit.

By agreement with his spouse, he preserved virginity in marriage. He died A.D. 1024.

He lectured with immediate and lasting success at Unversity of Paris, where he was intamately acuainted with St Thomas Aquinas. Known as the Seraphic Doctor, he became General of the Franciscan Order and Cardinal of Albano. He died 1274.
