In this episode, Paul Nixon and Beth Estock explore the concept of Edgewalking. Edgewalking church leaders have one foot firmly within the church, typically with strong core convictions and Christology, even as they engage with people beyond the church, gaining wisdom of perspective that helps the church in its mission. Beth and Paul are convinced that this Edgewalking concept is core to effective spiritual leadership in the 2020s. To learn more about Edgewalkers, see the 2006 book Edgewalkers by Judi Neal, and the daily meditation by Richard Rohr's team, written by Victoria Loorz, entitled Edge Walking.
Judi Neal, an inspirational global educator, and leader, encourages us to be Edgewalkers and to elevate our Global Consciousness. It does take courage to change for the better. Listening to Judi in this conversation with Dave, you may experience some of her positive energy right through your screen. Dave did.

Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black And the dark street winds and bends. Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow, And watch where the chalk-white arrows go To the place where the sidewalk ends. Dr. Judi Neal is an internationally recognized scholar, speaker, consultant, and the author of six books on workplace spirituality and transformation. She received her Ph.D. from Yale University and was an internal consultant to Honeywell. In 2009, Judi became the founding Director of the Tyson Center for Faith and Spirituality in the Workplace at the University of Arkansas. Her research is on business leaders who have a strong commitment to their spirituality, and she’s studied how they bridged the spiritual world and the material world of business. During my time at the University of Arkansas as a grad student, I was exploring spirituality and wanted to bring meaning to work. Because of this, I found myself drawn to Judi and eventually participated in an internship with her that left me with perspectives I still carry with me today. It’s so refreshing to think about how to bring spirituality, and depth, and meaning into your work no matter where you work or what you do and that’s exactly what we’ll be discussing in today’s episode. What you'll hear in this episode: The two components Judi uses to define spirituality What it looks like to bring more spirituality into the workplace How bringing spirituality into the workplace can improve your mind climate and the overall atmosphere of the workplace The benefits of focusing on what is going right and working to replicate that rather than focusing on problems and their solutions How a recent study she conducted revealed that a common way organizations are incorporating spirituality in the workplace is by practicing mindfulness meditation Judi’s advice for how to start incorporating more spirituality in your work Why it’s so important to not associate spirituality practices in the workplace with religion How bringing spirituality into her work has positively impacted Judi’s life Connect with Ivy on Facebook and join the Mind Climate Community!
