This episode is a re-release of Ep 187, one of the most popular episodes of The Manager Track podcast. If you've ever been captivated by the challenges and dynamics of competitive reality shows like "Survivor," "Squid Game," or "Hell's Kitchen," you'll find this week's podcast episode particularly intriguing. In the world of leadership, much like these reality TV competitions, the climb up the organizational hierarchy brings heightened challenges. Just as contestants face tougher trials and personalities clash under pressure, leaders encounter more complex problems and, inevitably, "difficult" people the further they get in the competition. The real question isn't IF you'll encounter a challenging individual, but WHEN. Mastering the art of handling difficult people is not just a skill; it's a career game-changer.Whether it's a challenging coworker, a demanding supervisor, or even a problematic direct report, we all encounter difficult people in our careers. This episode provides valuable insights on how to navigate these situations, retain our power, maintain healthy relationships, and when it's time to consider stepping away.If you've ever felt stressed, drained, or frustrated by "difficult" people, this episode is a must-listen.Check it more resources HERE(And share it with any of your friends or co-workers who might be navigating a tricky work relationship right now.)— RESOURCES MENTIONED —- LinkedIn Learning Course: Creating Behavioral Change that Lasts- Schedule a strategy call with Ramona HERE. - Learn how to turn your 1-on-1 meetings from time wasters, awkward moments, status updates, or non-existent into your most important and valuable meeting with your directs all week. Click here to send me your Q's, comments, lovenotes, or a quick message here :) What does it mean to connect to your womb, anyway? I mean, is that a practical thing or totally intangible? It's a fair question, and one I would have asked many years ago when I was completely and utterly disconnected from the part of my body "where the sun don't shine."It took me many years to find my way there. It's interesting, a couple days ago I was in a circle of colleagues and one of them directed us to "journey to our wombspace" but gave us no guided visualization or any cues at all on how to do that. I was able to go there, but only because I have cultivated so much connection over the years. I was thinking that 15+ years ago, I would have had no clue how to do that and would have absolutely just fallen asleep during that "journey."So... how does one cultivate relationship to their wombspace? Well there are many ways. Cycle tracking, guided visualizations, sexual healing, trauma work, pelvic bodywork, birth work, and also.... intentional practices like vaginal steaming. Which is what this week's episode is all about. Jessica Birnbaum Pratt found her way from unexplained abnormal vaginal bleeding to a deep relationship with her womb through the practice of vaginal (or yoni) steaming. The first time she awkwardly explored the practice of steaming her vulva and pelvic floor with an herbal blend, she felt a sense of "remembrance."And it's true, this practice IS ancient. And also can be translated into a modern context. It's got physiologic therapeutic benefits (from enhancing circulation, to softening tissues) but beyond that, it's also got some deep emotional and spiritual layers too. For Jessica, it was the elemental and spiritual qualities that really supported her sense of relationship and connection with her wombspace.Listen to learn:what vaginal steaming is + some of the history of the practicesome DIY styles for yoni steaming at homehow Jessica went from being told she might be going through "early menopause" to having children!what Jessica thinks the cause of her abnormal vaginal bleeding waswhy vaginal steaming is more than just physical healingabout the steam seat she designedResources:Free womb connection+clearing guided visualizationToday's shownotes: Get links to Leiamoon steam seat + Jessica's workEpisode 18: Herbal Uterine TonicsEpisode 19: The importance of softeningEpisode 43: Vaginal steaming w Julia Demillones MooreIf you loved this episode, share it with a friend, or take a screenshot and share on social media and tag me @herbalwombwisdom. Click here to send me your Q's, comments, lovenotes, or a quick message here :) Okay, wait what!? Is it actually possible to experience an empowered pelvic exam?If you've ever laid on an exam table with your feet in stirrups awaiting a cold speculum from a practitioner who's giving dozens of pelvic exams each day, you'd probably answer, 'hell no.' Almost every part of a gynecologic exam feels awkward to most of us. Pants off, feet in stirrups (are we riding a horse?), some veritable stranger examining one of the most intimate places in our entire body -- often without gentleness or really much communication at all, and sometimes entirely distracted. I mean, who can blame them. They learned that way.But that doesn't mean it's right. That doesn't mean we have to just accept the status quo. There are ways to take back your power. I'm actually currently training with Tami Lynn Kent (author of Wild Feminine) and she mentioned that when she prepares herself for a gyn exam, she prepares herself with self-care and acknowledgement of what will be happening, that it may not feel gentle, and that if it is uncomfortable (which btw it doesn't HAVE to be), then just to allow her body to relax into it as much as possible knowing this is a beneficial thing for her health. So that's one option for sure, is to prepare our tissues with our own personal tender loving care and acknowledgement. But another option is what this week's guest fertility coach Françoise Molenaar shares about, which is to actually ASK for what you want. It takes courage for sure, because so many of us defer to the power-over structure especially in doctor's offices. You can actually ask to insert the speculum yourself, or even to play music(!), or ask for gentleness, or say you'd like to take some breaths to relax first. You can take the speculum back. It's your body. No matter how many degrees or letters or years of study or practice your provider has. YOU are the one whose body they are touching and you can ask for what you want or need. They are serving you. If you want to hear about how Françoise found her way to empowered gynecologic exams and how this was a key to her own personal fertility journey, this week's episode is perfect for you. Listen to learn:how advising governments in conflict zones led to Françoise's fertility journeywhy it's important to cultivate patience and nourishment while TTCwhat an empowered gynecologic exam could look likehow asking for what she wanted led to pregnancy after 10 years of TTCthe results of Françoise's 1500-response survey on pelvic exam discomfortadditional keys to supporting the fertility journey Resources:Today's shownotes: Get links to the articles and Françoise's workEpisode 10: Traditional womb healing practices w Sondra HamiltonEpisode 61: How to heal embodied womb trauma w Dr Emily WilsonEpisode 119: Clearing, tending, releasing womb trauma w Dr Sarah WylieFREE guided Womb connection and clearing meditationIf you loved this episode, share it with a friend, or take a screenshot and share on social media and tag me @herbalwombwisdom. Imagine that sinking feeling when you realize you may have to let someone go from your team. It's one of the most difficult situations a manager faces. In most cases, the manager has been feeling this tugging going on for a while but has put it off, hoping that things would improve. But at some point they have to face the inevitable. What's worse, if they were the one that hired this employee, they may also be struggling with guilt, feeling at-fault for how the situation turned out. In this episode, Ramona provides guidance on how to approach the process of letting someone go with clarity and compassion. She brings up key questions to ask yourself to assess if termination is warranted and introduces you to the AMO framework to help identify gaps that may be hindering the employee's performance. Even if termination is the ultimate outcome, there are ways that it can be done with clarity and compassion for everyone involved, including the remaining team members. If you've been grappling with an underperforming employee or want to prepare for when (not if!) this situation will arise for you, then you must tune in to this episode. Check it out here. Summary In this in-depth discussion, Andy is joined by Eduardo Briceño, author of The Performance Paradox: Turning the Power of Mindset Into Action, to delve into the concepts of a growth mindset versus a fixed mindset. The conversation covers how these mindsets are not as binary or mutually exclusive as we may think, but rather can be found within us at different times and in different contexts. The theme of maintaining a balance between having a growth mindset, which holds the belief in the potential for change and improvement, and knowing when to lean into a fixed mindset, is explored. Eduardo advises on how to apply deliberate practice to improve performance and suggests viewing ourselves as evolving and changing. When we explore the etymology of the term "decide," we uncover its roots in the Latin word "decidere." "De-" means "off" or "down," and "caedere" means "to cut." In this historical context, "decide" originally meant to "cut off" or "cut away" alternative possibilities. The crucial insight? If we decide in advance of emotionally charged events, we are more likely to make logical, wise decisions. Decisiveness involves navigating uncertainty with clarity and purpose. The power of decisiveness lies in making choices that shape outcomes, allowing us to carve a deliberate path forward. By approaching decisions with foresight and careful consideration, we empower ourselves to make logical, wise decisions, mitigating the pitfalls of emotional reactivity. This proactive stance enables leaders to navigate challenges with a clear, level-headed perspective, fostering a culture of thoughtful decision-making without the need for drastic measures. Be sure to tune in to this episode to gain insights into: The real-life consequences of defaulting to quick, emotionally driven, reactive responses. The ripple effect of reactivity on individual leaders and teams. Strategies for balancing deliberate reactivity in critical situations. Six key indicators of a reactive leadership pattern. Mastering the art of handling difficult people is not just a skill; it's a career game-changer. Whether it's a challenging coworker, a demanding supervisor, or even a problematic direct report, we all encounter difficult people in our careers. This episode provides valuable insights on how to navigate these situations, retain our power, maintain healthy relationships, and when it's time to consider stepping away. If you've ever felt stressed, drained, or frustrated by "difficult" people, this episode is a must-listen. Mark Pincus, the founder of Zynga, once said that leaders should "make everyone the CEO of something." But that's easier said than done. So how do you go about cultivating an ownership mindset, not only for yourself, but all of your direct reports as well? I mean, is it even possible to affect how other people view their ownership of something? In this week's episode, I wanted to highlight the importance of having an ownership mindset in leadership and explore some of the common challenges and negative consequences of a low ownership mindset within teams. As we near the 200th episode of 10 Things To Tell You, we're using this summer to pull a few episodes out of the archives from the first year of the show. August feels like the second "new year" on the calendar. Even if you're no longer super aware of the school calendar as a student, parent, or teacher, it still feels like a fresh start after the summer and heading into the last half of the year. This episode is for you if you're thinking about setting intentions, starting affirmations, and creating a vision board for the new year. In this replay episode from the end of 2019, I'm sharing my experience with setting intentions, writing down affirmations, and creating a vision board for the future. Let me be clear that I am no expert on any of these things, but I do believe that something goes on in your consciousness when you stay open to receiving what the world has to offer (instead of closing yourself off from anything you don't understand), and by putting in place a few practices that might positively affect your mood, spirit, and actions.
