Our guest this week is Morgan Browne, a huge part of the London Welsh family. He joined the Little Wizards, aged 5 with the rest of his family and has been a player ever since. Morgan loved his minis and youth rugby at the club, especially the tours he went on in Wales or to Europe. He played for Hampton School and was captain in his final year where he led the team out at Twickenham and played against a certain Manu Tuilagi. He attended Cardiff Uni and joined the rugby club where he captained the Freshers in the Varsity. Rugby was taken very seriously at Cardiff, and he played mostly in the 1's and 2's; but also found other passions and was quite keen on his drama. Post uni he came to London and played a bit for some local clubs, until Lloyd Davies called him and the rest is history. He played 3-4 years for the Druids before reset and then had about 19 matches with the club when Cai and Sonny were the coaching team. Morgan had to retire due to concussion and he explains quite clearly how the club sat him down and explained the situation to him and put him first. An engaging, honest and a lovely human, who will continue to help this club in the future. Enjoy
Narrator Matthew Lloyd Davies brings his considerable talent to one of Graham Greene's best-known novels. Host Jo Reed and AudioFile's Robin Whitten discuss the story of how James Wormold, a vacuum cleaner retailer, invents a spy ring in order to cover his daughter's extravagances. Davies manipulates accents, vocal tones, and pitch ranges to bring the characters to life. He enhances the novel's dark (sometimes very dark) humor, as well. Matthew Lloyd Davies's performance is intelligent, honest, and compelling in Henry Porter's intriguing story filled with spycraft and surprises. Host Jo Reed and AudioFile's Sandi Henschel discuss the many twists and turns that Davies takes listeners down as he performs this terrific audiobook. Robert Harland, ex-British spy, currently works for the UN secretary-general. After surviving a plane crash, he's drawn back into intelligence work. As narrator, Davies is the complete package. Our guest this week is former club captain and current player, Lloyd Davies. Lloyd is a product of Monmouth School where he learned to love the game and then went off to Cardiff University to enjoy the social side of rugby and met Morgan Browne and Rhys Howells whilst playing there. Prior to University, Lloyd went to work in Australia and played for a small town North of Brisbane, where he perfected his side step, ensuring the strong Polynesian players would not be able to tackle him. Lloyd joined London Welsh in 2013 and is one of the few players perfectly placed to compare pre and post project reset. He tells us what it meant captaining the club and playing in front of the hundreds of supporters who would attend our games at Old Deer Park. We hear the about the misery of coping with the run of bad luck he has had with injuries and Lloyd gives us a exclusive to the pod on some personal news. This podcast series is sponsored by London Welsh Developments LTD. Contact details: 0208 3359123 email - info@lwdltd.co.uk
This weeks guest is Rhys Howells. Rhys was convinced to join London Welsh by his University mates, Lloyd Davies and Morgan Browne who were already playing for the club. Rhys had a successful School and University background, playing for Wellington School in the Daily Mail Cup, and representing them at the Rosslyn Park 7's. This led to Rhys playing for the Welsh Exiles; which gave him the opportunity to play for the Dragons at age grade as well as Wales U16's & U18's. He then played for Cardiff University and was then a bit of a rugby nomad until he came to London Welsh, where he has had a lot of success and played some of his best rugby. Nick Lloyd-Davies is a dad on a mission – to get kids reading. Nick has self-published 3 books to date, for the 5-8 age range. The Glowstone Adventure series of books introduces a strong female lead, gently highlighting topical issues such as climate change, plastic pollution, vanity and even transgender prejudice! Now he is developing his writing, with new titles aimed at the 9-12s. Titles including The Boy Who Saves Time, The Neptune Girl, Tommy's Escape from Amelion and his current work in progress – Kasper and the Mars Conspiracy! These are fast-paced adventures with kids leading the way and with evident inspiration from the great classics such as The Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland. His fabulous Welsh literary agent, Misti Debonno, is actively working to tie down a publishing deal to get these stories into kids' hands!Nick is passionate about giving children alternatives to the world of WiFi, passionate also about protecting our precious planet, climate change featuring frequently in his books. Nick's idea of excitement is more likely to come from buying fresh tomatoes in a paper bag or doing some plumbing, but otherwise writing from his home in the countryside of West Sussex.Oh, but he would quite like to travel to Mars if he gets the chance. If this isn't possible, then writing about it must surely be the next best thing! Twitter Nick @GlowstoneKatie
