Nearly half of women have dense breasts but many of them won't know it, as only a mammogram will confirm if you have them. That same mammogram may not be able to pick out whether there's any cancer there as only an ultrasound will find tumours in dense breasts. Having dense breasts does increase your risk of breast cancer so it's time more people know about them.In this episode, Victoria talks to her fellow TV presenter Julia Bradbury, who found a lump in one of her dense breasts in 2020 but her diagnosis was only confirmed after an ultrasound picked up what the mammograms couldn't. Julia and Victoria also talk to Cheryl Cruwys who founded Breast Density Matters UK, and get advice from Fleur Kilburn-Toppin, a consultant radiologist.Brought to you by the Future Dreams charity, "And Then Came Breast Cancer" is for everyone whose lives have been touched by the disease. Julia Bradbury, the television presenter, author and ‘outdoor evangelist' is here to explain exactly why time outdoors, connecting with your health and making better choices is worth the effort and, perhaps most importantly, the ‘how' of building these habits into your life.In her book Walk Yourself Happy, Julia examines the elemental link between our health - both physical, mental and emotional - and the natural world. For Julia personally, it was a balm during her breast cancer treatment and IVF treatments.I distinctly remember having conversations with friends during the lockdowns and whenever we'd discuss going ‘back to normal' we all expressed how we wanted things to return to normal but that we didn't want to go back to how we were living before. In almost every conversation, what this referred to was not going back into normality at such a fast, relentless pace. If you're looking at the floor then perhaps you, like me, have found yourself back at that breakneck speed and you want to figure out how to slow things down and, honestly listeners, I think Julia is the key to this, which is why I'm delighted to welcome her on the podcast. Today we are joined by a name synonymous with adventure, exploration, and a deep passion for the great outdoors. Julia Bradbury's love affair with nature began at a young age, nurtured by family hikes and camping trips in the rugged landscapes of the Peak District. She started her career as a show business reporter for breakfast TV in Los Angeles, becoming a household name as the presenter of BBC's Countryfile alongside co-host Matt Baker - her boundless enthusiasm for the countryside endeared her to audiences across the UK. She is perhaps best known for turning her lifelong passion for walking into prime-time TV, with shows including Britain's Best Walks, Cornwall and Devon Walks with Julia Bradbury and Wainwright's Walks in the Lake District. But Julia's thirst for adventure extends far beyond the borders of Britain, and over the years, she's embarked on countless adventures to some of the world's most remote and awe-inspiring destinations. Her travel diaries today take us from Greece to South Africa, Iceland to Costa Rica. I also really enjoyed talking to Julia about health and wellbeing, she has a huge wealth of knowledge that she accumulated while writing her Sunday Times Bestseller Walk Yourself Happy, and also because of the lifestyle shift she herself adopted after being diagnosed with breast cancer for which she underwent a mastectomy in 2021. I think that you'll find this an inspiring, energising and wanderlust-inducing conversation. Julia Bradbury is a TV presenter and an author with a passion for the outdoors. She has a 12 year old son, and 8 year old twin daughters who she had through IVF. Her motto to them is: 'Be good, be strong, be kind'.We met at Julia's London West London home and talked about how in 2021, she and her husband had the nightmare task of breaking the news of her breast cancer diagnosis to their children. She also mentioned how 'Fruitfly Collective' and 'Maggie's Centres' can support all sorts of people at these difficult times. She is thankfully now in remission: working back in TV and writing, but making sure she puts her health first.Julia talked to me about how she feels we're all suffering an indoor epidemic at the moment and how she is doing all she can to live in a healthy way. She shares a lot of those thoughts in the book she has just published called 'Walk Yourself Happy', which reflects her belief in health through nature. Even in London, she manages to have her nature fix first thing every morning by sitting on her (very safe) windowsill and getting the morning light as soon as she wakes up. She then takes further 'nature snacks' through the day.I left Julia feeling full of positivity and good intentions, vowing never to eat sugary cereal ever again! It remains to be seen whether I manage to change my ways...Spinning Plates is presented by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, produced by Claire Jones and post-production by Richard Jones Hosted on Acast. The elections have been filling the news....the only thing of any note was the member of the Raving Looney Party who was lined up with the other participants at the Hartlepool results coverage....he was hilarious....didn't get many votes but he was so funny....If I lived there he would definitely have got my vote....this is what we need in the world....it's like the Eurovision when a plonker jumps up out of the crowd and joints in with the band before the security frog march him off the stage....always good to watch.....I remember The Rolling Stones many years ago doing a concert and some idiot came running on the stage from the side and Keith Richard unstrapped his guitar and hit the bloke with it which sent him straight into the crowd at full speed...after which Keith commented saying he didn't know whether he was a friend or foe and wasn't prepared to take the chance....priceless. Strawberry Field in Liverpool where...and I quote..."John Lennon used to climb over the wall and play as a child and eventually wrote his famous song about it"......well now you can obtain a limited edition BRICK from the building for....wait for it....75 pounds......is it me or is the world going nuts.....it will be interesting to see how many customers they get from America and how they intend to post it.....I have recently posted some orders for my DVDs.....postage 4 pounds EACH.....so how much a house brick will cost doesn't bear thinking about. As I have said before there is nothing more annoying than a radio DJ making a negative comment about a record....if they don't like it don't play it....stupid comments cost sales....and even worse joining in with a record while it's being played....recently Steve Wright played "Every Time You Go Away You Take A Piece of Me With You"....he said at the start of the record that he used to sing "you take a piece of MEAT with you".....then joined in on the record saying that on every chorus which wasn't funny once let alone five or six times.....records cost a lot of money to make and fans of the artists don't want to hear an unfunny DJ ruining the song. I went to Wales last week and spent some time in Anglesey.....it was a beautiful day and I went to a place called Brynsiencyn which is on the Menai Strait side of the island.....the Strait was like a mirror and I found a speck and looked across to Caernarfon with it's wonderful castle with the Snowdon range in the background....and I was the only one there.....you can certainly feed your soul in that part of the world.....speaking of which I watched a programme featuring Julia Bradbury visiting Australia's Great Barrier Reef....magnificently filmed and presented....so it can be done ...so let's have more of this and less boring chat shows and cookery programmes. The song this week is from one of my albums entitled "DooWop Days" which can be obtained from my website and can be streamed from the internet.....the song is a tribute to a pop star who is sadly no longer with us....Bobby Vee........I had the pleasure of opening his show on two occasions and he was the nicest guy you could possibly meet....we hit it off straight away and he was a delight....so here it is "The Bobby Vee Song"

The New Forest, with its beautiful Beaulieu River, was a hunting ground created for William the Conqueror a thousand years ago. Since then the river has provided the perfect secret landing spot for smugglers. In this VT insert, created for an episode of Countryfile, Matt Baker and Julia Bradbury talk to local historians and experts about the details of criminal activity, both past and present, in the picturesque New Forest area and its watery marshes. Directors like Andrew Painten must script, shoot and edit-produce around five films as VT inserts for each Countryfile episode. Along the way, Andrew has help from his highly skilled team. Researcher Claire Blindell, camera operator Stef Otto, editor Matt Taylor, producer Andrea Buffery and presenters Matt Baker, Adam Henson and Ellie Harrison all help to get the films like these through pre-production, production and post-production stages.
