art 1:We talk with Mike Doyle, Chair of the Harris County Democrats. We discuss the campaign strategy that they are using: Listening to the voters. We discuss the 5th circuit judge, Kaszcmerick, who has been the 'shopped' judge for right-wing plaintiffs. We review the $6 billion dollars that have been spent by Gov. Abbott in Texas on "border operations", most of it among his friends.Part 2:We talk with Robert Hockett and Bill Curry. We discuss the economic measures that are being studied, and how these measures translate to voters. Macro measures do not have the same immediacy for voters as micro measures. There is a 'disposable income desert' among many voters, and people are using debt to get by. Unfortunately, there is a common economic stress in Europe, though the US is better off. We need economic democracy.  WNHNFM.ORG   production

"We made a million-dollar mistake on the build-out. We thought plumbing could work one way. It couldn't. For a company that was started with the money that we had at the time, but you make those mistakes and you just move on and learn from it and you don't dwell on it." Jared's Five Iron Golf story begins in early 2015 with Mike Doyle teaching simulator lessons in the back of a men's clothing store in midtown Manhattan. As the demand for Mike's lessons grew throughout 2015 and 2016, Mike and student Jared started dreaming about an indoor facility where Mike could teach more lessons and golfers could work to improve their games — all while flipping standard golf culture on its head and appealing to everyone. https://files.fireside.fm/file/fireside-uploads/images/1/1ea879c1-a4a2-4e10-bea4-e5d8368a3c7a/n3I4Vlow.jpg (https://www.youtube.com/@modgolfpodcast/videos) We want to welcome our new Episode Presenting Partner Synthetic Turf International! https://files.fireside.fm/file/fireside-uploads/images/1/1ea879c1-a4a2-4e10-bea4-e5d8368a3c7a/i3kkRYpK.jpg (http://www.synthetic-turf.com/) Synthetic Turf International - also known as STI - is the industry's premier producer and supplier of high-quality, natural-looking grass products for residential and commercial applications, both indoors and out. I have collaborated on projects and ventures with STI for over 10 years through my Sport Entertainment company, so I have seen first hand how innovative, passionate, and creative they are. Speaking of Synthetic Turf International clients, Five Iron Golf has installed their turf products in the majority of their venues. If you are considering an artificial landscaped grass lawn, a putting green, golf tee lines and hitting mats, a synthetic sports field, playground turf or a dog park, then I highly recommend STI for your next project. And all of STI's grass products are crafted completely in-house and proudly made in America. To learn more about the endless synthetic turf application and installation possibilities that Synthetic Turf International has to offer, contact them at synthetic-turf.com (http://www.synthetic-turf.com/). "At our Las Vegas location we originally had a putting green in the center. We realized that nobody wanted a putting green. And so we put in shuffleboard. Nobody wanted shuffleboard and we put in the high top tables where people could just drink and were like, "Okay, this is what people want". And I like to believe that I've cultivated the spirit with the other Founders that it doesn't matter what happened, let's move forward. We're literally inventing a concept over here. The best thing that we can do is test and fail, test and fail and move forward and take everything that we've learned and hopefully use those for the franchises and our own future corporate stores and do the best that we can." Episode Chapters 03:20: How and when Jared was introduced to golf 04:40: The Five Iron Golf origin story. Spoiler: it involves hitting balls in the back of a Manhattan men's clothing store! 07:15: Jared explains how he and the three other co-founders mustered up the courage to launch Five Iron Golf 10:10: The story behind the first Five Iron Golf location opening in mid-town Manhattan 12:50: How Five Iron creates experiences for both the casual and passionate golfer without alienating either one of the groups 16:15: "We want our Five Iron locations to look like modern art museums". Jared discusses their design guidelines and how grafitti art became the focal point for their brand vision 19:10: How Five Iron finds and hires artists to collaborate at each of their venue around the US 20:45: Selection of the Five Iron Golf name and logo design 23:40: How Five Iron scaled from one location to 25 and counting 26:50: Jared's thoughts on starting a company and when to bring in outside investment 28:10: Franchising vs the owership model for venue locations 29:30: Mistakes made along the way and what the leadership team has learned from them 32:50: The power of partnerships and collaborating with golf brands and influencers 34:10: What the future has in store for Five Iron Golf You can also learn more about Jared on his bio page (https://modgolf.fireside.fm/guests/jared-solomon). With Nora operating the ship and Katherine navigating through some early legal storms, Five Iron Golf was launched and open for business in mid-2017. Five Iron has quickly re-shaped Manhattan's golf culture, growing from Mike's original lesson crew to a re-imagined, high-tech, inclusive urban golf experience for golfers and non-golfers alike. Five Iron is for everyone. For the serious golfer, Five Iron hosts ten Full Swing simulators, a Trackman lesson studio, four teaching professionals, lessons, club storage, showers, practice time, leagues, 100% top-of-the line clubs to use (complimentary), and in-house club fitting specialists Club Champion. Politics and Tech: Why Can't We All Just Get Along | Congressman Mike Doyle

Our elected leaders used to set the tone of political discourse. Today, politicians take cues from their tribe, gleaning their talking points from whatever's trending on social media that day. And because legislation can't be written in 140 characters, there's a huge disconnect between the soundbites that voters want to hear and the substantive policies the country actually needs. That disconnect is particularly pervasive in technology policy — or the extreme lack thereof. The tech industry moves so fast and the nuances are so complex, Congress can't keep up. Today on The Dumbest Guy in the Room, host John Dick welcomes Congressman Mike Doyle, who's retiring after this term following 28 years in the House of Representatives. Congressman Doyle holds a seat on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and he chairs the subcommittee on communications and technology, where the most important debates on tech policy are happening. The two talk about the changes the congressman has seen over three decades in Washington; how the new breed of politicians is more interested in being social media stars than passing laws; and why tech remains largely unregulated.

Stick Figure Suicide was a punk rock band from Milltown, New Jersey. The band was formed in 1997, and were part of the emerging emo-punk rock scene of the late 1990s in the Northeast. Their music has been described as a mastery of “old-school hardcore moves and hyperspeed tempos” with clean, precise, over-driven guitars, and they are classified as a blend of fast and melodic hardcore-punk, with lyrics that are occasionally humorous. They drew comparison to the music of the hardcore punk band Minor Threat, and even Against All Authority. Maximumrocknroll described their songs on the Road Kill EP Split with Mohawk Barbie as “displaying some pretty good energy of their own with their early '90s style hardcore.I got Paul on the Skype and this is what we chat about: How to develop a screaming voice Dave Smalley Trash this CD comp Slicing his hands up at their first show Vintage Vinyl Their drummer over selling them to get them on shows Their song Dred Playing with Anti Flag Getting in a fist fight  The Road Kill EP Meeting Dave Smalley And a ton more

In a cultural moment that is growing hostile towards the Church, it's becoming easier than ever for Christians to slip into mission drift. “Without careful attention, faith-based organizations will inevitably drift from their founding mission. It's that simple. It will happen.” - Peter Greer Out of defensiveness and self preservation, it can become easy for us to turn our mission field into a battle field, where the focus and goal shifts from reaching the lost to defeating them in political and social battles. This isn't to say Christians should not have an influence on the culture, far from it. It is an admonishment to walk cautiously in these times and keep the main thing the main thing. It is encouragement to avoid the extremes of both the far-left and far-right, and ensure the main thing we are radical about is the Gospel and everything that comes with it. In this final episode of the negative World Series, Aaron Salvato, Brian Higgins, and Mike Doyle discuss how we can have wisdom while living in the negative world.

Many Christians now sense the world has shifted. While culture was once positive towards Christianity, we now see a world that has shifted from openness, to indifference, and now hostility. A negative world. Which begs the question... how do we respond to this idea of the negative world? How do we adapt? How do we avoid negative responses that hold us back from our mission, and focus on the kind of response that makes a difference in this broken world? Today on the GoodLion Podcast, I once again sit down with Mike Doyle, founder and lead pastor of Movement Church in NYC, to chat about this complex issue. We discuss the need for a deep faith. A renewed sense of Christian vision, identity, and formation, and how reclaiming the monastic principles of early Christians, even in small ways, can make a big difference. Later in the episode I'll be joined by Brian Higgins to take a look at the debate surrounding Tim Keller's strategy of winsomeness, and how properly understanding what we mean when we say winsome makes a huge difference in how to understand this conflict. Then Mike will join me again to close out the episode as we discuss the problems of both-sidesism, and the need for a resurgence of theological orthodoxy. I really enjoyed these convos, and as This episode is the 2nd of a 3 part series on the Negative World, there will be more good convos to come. We hope it helps you think and consider how to walk wisely as a Jesus follower, and to consider the ways the world is changing, but also how our mission as Christians never changes. Throughout our lives many of us have heard older generations harken back to a time when Christians were accepted, praised, and embraced by the culture. Everyone went to Church on sundays. People seemed to hold a Christian worldview and morality, and it was rare to find someone who didn't believe in Heaven or Hell. A world that was positive towards Christians. Some people my age remember a more neutral world, where Christianity was seen as one of many belief systems free thinkers could choose from. But today, many are talking about the negative world, a shift where the views of the culture have become much more hostile against Christians. Do these views have validity, or are they an overblown exaggeration? What does this mean for the Church? And how can we react to it in a way that's true with who we are as Christ followers? Today on the GoodLion Podcast, I sit down with Mike Doyle, founder and lead pastor of Movement Church in NYC, to chat about this complex issue. Later in the episode I'll be joined by Brian Higgins to dive further into how we can respond to this concept. I really enjoyed these convos, and as This episode is the first of a 3 part series on the Negative World, there will be more good convos to come.
