The Hornets coach previews the Class 1 title game with Adrian
The Dad Shift hit the headlines recently after a brilliant stunt, in which the campaign group attached dolls to statues of famous men across London. Why? To draw attention to the issue of men's statutory paternity leave entitlement in the UK, which – spoiler alert! – is not good. In fact, it's the worst in Europe, something the campaign group hopes to change. Jen caught up with Alex Lloyd-Hunter, one of the group's founders, to talk about why the system as it stands is hurting everyone, perceptions of gender roles when it comes to working and home lives, and whether or not men really do want an equal piece of the pie when it comes to childcare. Two embattled Florida coaches square off this weekend against heated rivals. Golden's No. 20 Gators head to Florida State while Napier's squad will host No. 21 LSU. Golden's reception will be even more hostile than usual given accusations against him for stalking and sexual harassment. Napier returns to the Swamp off the Gators' worst loss during his three seasons and on the heels of a vote of confidence from AD Scott Stricklin. A Florida win would position the Gators for a bowl bid, but a loss would be six straight to LSU in what used to be one of the SEC's best rivalry games. During the latest Swamp Things, Mark and Edgar do their best to catch listeners up with a busy, crazy time in Gainesville. On 8 July 2021, the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide was established by the Governor-General. After years of receiving testimony from veterans and other relevant witnesses, the Commission's work is nearly over. Nick Kaldas APM is one of the three Royal Commissioners for this inquiry, and is the Chair of the Commissioners. Nick has an extensive background of public service, including with the NSW Police Force and United Nations. Alex Lloyd hosts a panel on the veteran suicide crisis, with Wes ‘H' Hennessey and Renee Wilson. Life on the Line tracks down Australian military veterans and records their stories. On 11 August 2022, the Interim Report of the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide was submitted to the Governor-General, and then to Parliament. While this podcast sees itself as a veterans storytelling platform first and foremost, topics as exceptional as this are an ongoing part of the stories of veterans and families around the country. As a nation, we've lost more veterans to suicide than we did to combat in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. This Royal Commission was something tirelessly campaigned for by veterans and families, so this interim report is an important measure of whether it's achieving what so many wanted it to. To discuss the interim report, host Alex Lloyd welcomed back two previous guests. Wes ‘H' Hennessey is veteran of the 2nd Commando Regiment, a deeply experienced and well-decorated soldier after many combat deployments to Afghanistan. Renee Wilson is the CEO of Australian War Widows NSW, an ambassador for the Commando Welfare Trust, and is a staunch advocate for veterans and their families. She is also the wife of veteran Gary Wilson, who was significantly injured in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan. With countless albums, concert tickets sold, multiple awards and honors bestowed, Alex Lloyd is one of the best singer-songwriters Australia has ever produced. His songs have moved us for over20 years and played important moments in music lover's lives. His new single “Trojan Horse” is a dark, but soulful song that has hints of his classic “Black The Sun”, with its electronic and acoustic instrumentation. It is a reminder of Alex's brilliant edgy talent and evolving creative mantra. According to Alex, “I feel like I am in a place as a producer and instrumentalist to fully explore every angle. I feel the EP with Trojan Horse as the lead track will be a journey in restraint…less is more, space is king. Sentiment is everything…”. He started to write “House Of Dreams” around the same time he wrote “Trojan Horse”. "My world was a little all over the place post COVID. I was depressed, and like many others in my industry and in general, my whole world had been turned upside down. So, for me, “House of Dreams” was a safe harbor - nothing ‘make believe' or considered to be ‘fantasy' was off limits. I was writing about a place like Hollywood appears to be in the movies... with people living a dream life." he said.
