Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)Understanding Bioidentical Hormones: These are molecularly identical to the hormones produced by our bodies and can be compounded or FDA-approved.Misconceptions & Fear: Many women fear bioidenticals due to misinformation, such as unfounded cancer risks.Individualized Treatment: Importance of personalized dosing based on individual needs rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.2. Women's Health & Midlife ChallengesTarget Audience includes women aged 40 to 70, but also younger women experiencing early menopause.Men are encouraged to learn about these issues for better support in relationships.3. Body Image and AgingChallenging societal pressures and unrealistic standards set by media.Emphasizing self-love and acceptance over striving for unattainable youthfulness.4. Nutrition InsightsThe importance of protein intake at every meal, particularly from natural sources like meat, which is nutrient-dense and satiating.Discussion around misconceptions regarding meat consumption and its nutritional value compared to plant-based diets.Insightful Quotes:"We've now replaced what used to be the important metrics of a good life with surface stuff.""We don't need to look thirty at sixty; it's about feeling good in your skin.""I think sometimes we need to give ourselves a little bit more grace and recognize that these bodies are a story, of everything that we've lived and done."Action Items for Listeners:Consider testing hormone levels before starting HRT for more tailored treatment plans.Reflect on personal body image perceptions influenced by social media aesthetics versus real-life health metrics.Incorporate whole foods into your diet focusing on unprocessed meats when possible. We couldn't cover everything I wanted to know from Kristen and Maria So I'm inviting them back now that their book has launched. Director and legendary cinematographer Kirsten Johnson is known for nonfiction work that is inventive, artful, expressive, and maximal. The same can be said of the film that blew her mind -- Bob Fosse's All That Jazz. The semi-autobiographical film brings us Joe Gideon (Roy Scheider), a peripatetic creative force working simultaneously to mount a major Broadway production and complete post-production on a feature film, all while maintaining a lifestyle fueled by cigarettes, pills, one-night stands, and Visine, and still finding time for his adoring 12-year old daughter, Michelle. We learn why the iconic film first transfixed Kirsten, and how she continues to be inspired by Fosse's ingenious use of dance, documentary, theater, music, and more. Host John Cooper shares his personal ties to the film, calling on his days in New York's theater scene of the 1970s. And co-host Tabitha Jackson (a.k.a. Wife of Kirsten) does her level best to maintain her professional distance as the conversation unfolds. Listen and subscribe to The Film that Blew My Mind on Apple Podcasts. This episode features Kristen Johnson, Professor of Theology and Christian Formation at Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan. In 2018, Kristen was named as one of the "New Female Theologians Worth Knowing" by Christianity Today. This recording is of her lecture "The Inner Ring: How C.S. Lewis can help us Engage Friendship, Community and our Deep Differences." Many writers and thinkers are asking questions about how we can navigate the deep differences of our age. In a memorable lecture delivered in 1944, C.S. Lewis probed what he believed to be a permanent aspect of human existence, namely our desire to be on the insideof the "inner ring" and our terror at the prospect of being left on the outside. Kristen explores this in a very engaging and profoundly enlightening talk.
