More from the Astros as an important offseason gets here too soon. Dusty wants to be back and his players want him back. Altuve and Correa both back the veteran manager for a return in 2022. Correa on the other hand sounds like a man who knows this was an end of era in Houston. We hear from all of them along with Alex Bregman.

Our Halloween episode has Patti briefly revisiting 1995, a very scary year, in which she first built her sportsgrudge against the Atlanta Team. But now she loves “those Hammers guys” including effectively wild Ian Anderson, the magical Eddie Rosario, and the only Austin left standing. Pottymouth reminds us of the treasure that is Dusty Baker, the first manager to take five teams to the postseason, and possibly the only to prune his family vineyards *and* live through the Monterey Pop Festival at age 18 (the family station wagon made it too). Altuve makes moves on postseason homerun records, but Manny being Manny seems safe for now. Get your taco on Thursday - Thanks, Ozzie.Odd for us to give credit to Bob Nightengale but he earns it for not using Atlanta's team name in his USA Today pieces. The Hammers miss an opportunity to truly honor Henry Aaron by not announcing a team name change during the ceremony. Fox makes no effort to Chop the Chop, featuring it in crowd shots. Smuck and Boltz never mention it, or the war chant, while openly discussing the cheating chants. Rob Manfred defends it based on local markets and perceived support by the *regional* Native American community -- for a National Pastime? There's now footage of a certain former president joining in on the Chop, albeit badly, so that's really all you need to know. Please PETA, use your powers for good instead of distracting us with your push to rename the bullpen the “arm barn.” Although that did give us a gem of a tune from Grant Brisbee. We are looking forward to seeing how much the Cleveland Baseball Team will have to pay the local roller derby team for use of the name “Guardians.” It's going to be fun to watch Bob Melvin manage the Padres, a team with money, and we've got our eye on Raquel Ferreira in the Mets GM conversation. The MLBPA's Player's Choice awards feature Ryan Mountcastle among other Patti BFs. The untimely passing of NESN broadcasting great, Jerry “Rem Dawg” Remy brings all the feels for Pottymouth, including some warm and hilarious memories.Do you have the MLBTV postseason package? You could be watching Dominican winter ball! LIDOM features Tio Albert, Fernando Rodney, and Willi Castro this year -- no excuses. Pottymouth's Cardenales de Lara are undefeated in the LVBP, and finals have started in the Puerto Rican women's league. Pottymouth celebrates it all by teaching us baseball vocabulary in Spanish. We say Halle Berry, Kiss the Sky, and vegan hot dogs.Get vaxxed, fight the man, and find us on Twitter @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. South Side Sox: for Chicago White Sox fans

In the wake of the whomping the White Sox took from the Astros in the ALDS, most every writer or commentator is talking about what a shelling it was and how bad decisions by the HOFBP were instrumental in the team's demise. But SSS duty geezer Leigh Allan and his son and west coast correspondent, Will, say the collapse was ordained in early summer when warnings from Steve Stone and many others went unheeded and the White Sox starting pitchers were horribly overused. (Listen to the numbers on abuse of Carlos Rodón, if you don't believe us). They again raise a bunch of details they've mentioned before (and pretty much no one else has) about how much more Sox starters pitched than the staffs on any other team in baseball, both in number of innings, and, more importantly, number of pitches, given the quintet's remarkably low efficiency and consequent high number of pitches per inning. Not that there weren't terrible bullpen decisions during the series, and not that the HOFBP hurling idiotic accusations about the Astros intentionally hitting José Abreu five innings and three appearances after José Altuve was hit — on the seventh pitch of an at-bat, no less — wasn't just one more display of what a classless, arrogant jerk he is. Do they say absolutely anybody, including a reasonably trained rooster, could have managed the White Sox to the AAAL Central title? Sure. Do they call for the HOFBP to be fired? Of course. Do they think there's any chance that will happen? Of course not. And not that there wasn't a lot of ranting about Astros and cheating and such, though the two disagree on whether cheering when Altuve got hit was over-the-top fan nastiness (other fan nastiness being perfectly fine). Carlos Correa and Alex Bregman each hit a two-run double as the Astros advanced to the AL Championship Series for the fifth straight year, bouncing back from Sunday night's 12-6 loss with their usual relentless brand of baseball. Michael Brantley had three hits and two RBIs. Braves 5, Brewers 4 – Bats finally wake up but Hader falters, Brewers eliminated The Atlanta Braves won their NL Division Series by beating Milwaukee, 5-4 on Freddie Freeman's solo homer with two out in the eighth. Atlanta trailed 2-0 in the fourth and 4-2 in the fifth before beating Milwaukee for the third straight game since a series-opening loss. The Braves posted two shutouts and allowed just six runs the entire series. Dodgers 7, Giants 2 – Dodgers beat Giants 7-2, force decisive Game 5 in NLDS The Los Angeles Dodgers stayed alive with a 7-2 win over the San Francisco Giants. Mookie Betts was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, including a two-run homer that put the Dodgers ahead, 4-0 in the fourth inning. Will Smith capped the scoring with a two-run blast in the eighth. Today No games today MLB – La Russa-led White Sox make another early October exit Hall of Fame manager Tony La Russa and the Chicago White Sox had their sights set on advancing in the playoffs after running away with the AL Central. Their season came to an emphatic end with a 10-1 loss to AL West champion Houston in Game 4 of a Division Series that wasn't close. They never got the pitching and only occasionally got the hitting that carried them to their first division championship in 13 years and gave them back-to-back playoff appearances for the first time. And after getting knocked out by Oakland in the wild-card round last year, they bowed out in humbling fashion against the Astros. One of the four unvaccinated players is Detroit Red Wings forward Tyler Bertuzzi.  Bettman was in attendance for the regular-season opener between the back to back Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning and the Pittsburgh Penguins.  The Lightning have expressed a continuing interest in hosting an outdoor game but Bettman said the weather in Florida remains a challenge to pulling it off. Dave begins the show on the road in Tennessee and is conflicted that he may want to move there or back home to Pittsburgh. Cousin Sal and Dave recap what could be the last great sports weekend for a while as the Bucks win Game 3 of the NBA Finals. Giannis looked unstoppable as he puts up 41-13-6; the guys still like the Suns in the series.   Then the guys react to the US Men's Basketball team losing to Nigeria, Dustin Poirier losing to Conor McGregor and the Mets split their series with the Pirates. Plus, the Yankees get a big win behind Gerrit Cole only to blow a big lead the following day and lost to the Astros on a Jose Altuve walk-off homerun. Cousin Sal doesn't understand Shirtless Altuve?   It's the MLB All-Star Break and Dave is furious about the uniforms plus Sal suggests an event between angry managers and umpires. Plus, Home Run Derby picks as Sal like Pete Alonso and Dave doesn't think Ohtani will win either.   The guys discuss the ending to the Euro Championship as Italy Wins in penalties, Sal is ok with the ending while Dave thinks there needs to be a better way. Plus, Novak Djokovic wins Wimbledon, his 20th Grand Slam title tying him with Federer and Nadal.   Then, a look at NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Odds as the guys discuss if Trevor Lawrence will win it or another quarterback? Sal likes Zach Wilson and Dave thinks Andy Dalton won't be the quarterback long in Chicago and Justin Fields is worth a look.   Finally, the guys each name their Crown on the Court as Sal gives Jrue his due.

Rock bottom reached a new low as the Yankees were swept by the Red Sox at home this weekend. Boone refused to get ejected Sunday Night despite the Yankees suffering from one of the worst strike 3 call you'll ever see that sent the game into extras. Phil Nevin and Marcus Thames lost their minds, but our manager did nothing as usual. Boone also believes hitting into double plays is a thing a good team does. That's a real quote. DJ LeMahieu's struggles continue to mount. No one can hit besides Judge really and Gleyber in the clutch. Stanton sat on Sunday after Boone promised he would play the entire series. Jamo was pretty good on Saturday but fell victim to no run support. Hubbs rants about the Altuve chants at the stadium. Luis Severino made a rehab start and was pretty good! All that and more on this therapeutic episode of The Short Porch. Outro Song: "Run to You” (Via APM Music Library)

Hubbs and Tommy recap the eventful series: the crazy first inning of Tuesday, mentally dominating Altuve (until Thursday), Giancarlo's hot streak, Dusty Baker not shutting up, and more. We also might want Albert Pujols on the Yankees even though it's a terrible idea. Outro Song: “You Got Me Burning Up” (via APM Music Library)
