They had a relationship with God. Which then inspired them to ‘set the world on fire' as Catherine of Sienna put it. But, more specifically, it meant they put in the time. They sat with the Lord. Spoke with Him. Listened to Him. Daily. They unveiled their hearts and wounds and problems to Him. They offered him thanks and gratitude. They left their sufferings with Him on the altar. They begged for His help. My question to you: are you putting in the time? I'm not talking about time to just talk at Him or sit in church making a mental grocery list. I'm talking about time to build a consistent, honest relationship. Time to speak, and time to listen. Whether you want to pray a daily holy hour or hit up adoration once a week, I have a guide here from the makers of Exodus 90 specifically about praying a Holy Hour. Exodus 90 is a program aimed at helping men grow in their spiritual and ascetical practices. It is built around small groups, regular prayer exercises, and giving up a long list of creature comforts. It has grown tremendously over the last few years. And while, I hear many people talk about its positives, I do have some questions about how it fits within the Church's larger understanding of the spiritual life. Joining me on the show to talk about those questions is Nathaniel Binversie, director of content for Exodus 90. We talk about the history of the program and how it has evolved over the years. We further discuss the difference between passive purgation vs active purgation and the purpose of giving things up as part of our spiritual growth. We debate the merits of pushing yourself too hard in your ascetical practices, how to find balance in life, and how Exodus fits within the Church's liturgical calendar and spiritual traditions. We also discuss the need to incorporating almsgiving and service into any spiritual discipline. This conversation was recorded in October 2021. On Wednesday, July 14, Gene Wilhelm talked with Nathaniel Binversie, Director of Content for Exodus 90, which is a 90 day spiritual exercise based on prayer and fraternity. The exercise teaches men to live more like Christ each and every day through different practices, and should be a life-changing experience. They discussed Nathaniel's experience with his Catholic Faith, which he drifted from for a time, and later was encouraged to come back home by his high school priest. Nathaniel graduated from the University of St. Thomas in Saint Paul, Minnesota where he spent two years in formation at St. John Vianney Seminary. He and Gene reflected on the hand and role God has played throughout Nathaniel's life, and talked about how and when he ended up at Exodus 90. What is our role in the Church?
As men we always seem to have big decisions to make. In the office, at home, amidst friends, or even with extended family there is seemingly no where we can run and hide away from the responsibility to make good, informed, virtuous and right decisions. So instead of dodging bullets or waiting around for someone else to make the call, it's time we step up and figure out some best practices in good decision making. As a husband, father, and department director I know I certainly need to keep getting better at making the right decisions without falling into procrastination or giving into my weaknesses. For that reason, I've brought in Justin Aquila, a solid and prayerful man in the midst of making his own big decisions, to talk all about how to do this right. Hope you find this conversation as worthwhile as I did. Pax Fellas. -Nathaniel Binversie
I was invited to give a talk on freedom at Fort Hays State University. In addition to the talk, I opted to bring the Exodus 90 Show with me. In this episode I sit down with Focus Missionary and Exodus Man, Joseph Kaiser, right in the middle of the campus center lounge to talk about how we are all called to live mission. This might be the first time The Exodus 90 Show has been shot on location, but I sure hope it won't be the last. -Nathaniel Binversie

We spend so much time looking at girls we forget to grow as men. Buddies are good when times are good, but only brothers go the distance. Are you a good brother or just a buddy? Do you have good brothers, or just buddies? What's the difference? Or more importantly which do I need and how do I get them? Nathaniel Binversie brings Exodus Man, Joey Cavello onto the show to talk with him about his Exodus Fraternity and how a group of seemingly random men quickly became a fraternity of loyal brothers. We don't have to talk about everything, but we do have to talk about some things. As men who's bodies ought to be at the service of our Lord and others, food and exercise is something we need to be talking about at least semi-regularly. Sports are back, videos and shows are better than ever, the sun is setting earlier, the weather growing colder, it's time for a movie night. There's much good that can come from a family movie night. There's much good that can come from a family watching a sports game together. There's also something good about bringing a TV out for these particular events. Want to rethink the way you and your family do television? The modern day man is nearly expected to come home from work with a lunch pale full of complaints. But that too often sets the tone for the rest of the night: bitterness, superiority, self-centeredness, etc. This isn't the way we should come home from work as men. We should bring joy and life home with us from work. In order to do that we must start by seeing work through a different lens. In today's show Nathaniel Binversie talks with Mark Pica about the last three jobs he's had and how each effected his family in different ways. Then in the fervorino Nathaniel lays out 3 steps we can take as men to start bringing life home with us from work. This is Episode 25 of the Exodus 90 Show.
God's love is constantly working to make good things happen for his people. It's for our good that we live attentive to the promptings of his love and work in accord with them. In this show the tables turn and James Baxter asks the show host, Nathaniel Binversie, about how he came to be the author of Exodus 90. And in the fervorino Nathaniel gives us a personal reminder of the goodness of God the Father and his love.
Covid-19 mandates are not slowing down. Are governments and administrations taking our freedom or saving lives? If Covid isn't going away next week, it's time that we as men know how to respond. It's time that we find a way to live in peace and joy even amidst a Covid crazed culture. In Episode #23 Nathaniel Binversie welcomes Exodus Man, Dr. Lewis Pearson back to the show. Dr. Pearson is a Philosophy professor at St. Francis University. In this episode Lewis takes the time to look critically at how we as men ought to be responding to the situation at hand and shares candidly his thoughts with us.
Why do we buy the lie that, as men, we need to “do it ourselves”? What can we do to overcome our pride and learn to be the man we were made to be, a man who receives from God and even from others? How can we deny the world's empty view, work with others, and flourish as men? In Episode 22 Nathaniel Binversie talks with musician and actor Jack Delac about his experience of looking for a job amidst Covid-19 unemployment heights. They discuss prudence, plans, and reliance on the Lord. And in the fervorino, Nathaniel gets real practical on how we as men can live freely by learning to receive from God, work in accord with the other members of the Body of Christ, and put newly received gifts to use for the common good.
Why is the world not fair? Why are we still asking this paralyzing question? Let's stop asking the question and start living from the reality. In Episode 21 Nathaniel Binversie, author of Exodus 90, talks with James Baxter about a recent experience he had with sharing his ministry starting experience with members of the OSV Institute Challenge. And in the fervorino, Nathaniel breaks down the myth about being fair. And from this, he gives practicals on how to, and how not to, live from the reality of fairness, or unfairness more specifically.
There is so much evil happening through Social Media. But is Social Media itself evil? In episode 19 Nathaniel Binversie talks to Exodus Inc.'s Social Media expert, Kiernan Doyle about the current Social Media culture. And in the Fervorino, Nathaniel get's real practical on whether or not Social Media is evil and tips on how to live as a free man in today's Social Media culture.
There's nothing like some good misconceptions: Exodus is only for macho men; Exodus is only for holy men; Exodus is only for American men; Exodus is only for Christian men … Who is Exodus 90 and the Day 91 Exercises actually for? Nathaniel Binversie, Author of Exodus 90, leads James Baxter and Mark Pica in a conversation over that exact topic in Episode 18 of the Exodus 90 Show.
Hobbies aren't as straight forward as they seem. They can derail one man's marriage and assist another man's in thriving. So how do we know what hobbies are good for us and which are detrimental to our holiness? Nathaniel Binversie answer's this question in the fervorino. Step into this episode to learn about the pros and cons of hobbies and holy leisure for men.
